I have been wanting to go to La Casa de la Abuela (Grandma's House) for a long time. Friends of mine have raved about how good the food is. Well, they were right. La Casa de la Abuela covers every category for a delightful breakfast, brunch or lunch: a menu with great variety, quality delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, good parking and a great location. My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones. I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving. Everything I saw was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It's a new fave, and I will go back. When I do, I want to try one of their pastries: conchas, chocolate or strawberries and cream filled croissants, and more. This was a great place for a meet-up with a good friend. It would also be great for a date with my wife, a business lunch, or small groups. The dining room is not very big, so large groups would need to find another option. Ordered "build your own" chilaquiles with tortilla chips, chicken, mole, and queso fresco. The queso fresco was the only item that was enjoyable. The tortilla chips were hard and cold (probably from the day before if they make them in house or they came from a bag), the chicken was frozen chicken, and the mole tasted straight from the can/box. Its embarrassing I paid $20 for that dish. The refried beans and breakfast potatoes were cold and I could tell they came from a can or freezer bag. None if the food in my dish was fresh, I don't know whose grandma they named this place after but I sure hope shes using better ingredients in her home. Ordered pancakes for my child with "seasonal" fruit, and he got a 1 ounce "sauce cup" with cantaloupe, I was astonished. Can't believe social media convinced me to come here. Embarrassing. I asked staff about one of their dishes and he said "well I make it like xyz in my house, I don't know how they make it here." Terrible. Won't be back. Gave them two stars because my mom enjoyed her scrambled eggs, kinda hard to mess that up. read more

I ordered the croissant egg Benedict with bacon (but they gave me cold ham) The hollandaise sauce was super cold and the poach eggs were unseasoned and cold. the croissant was also lightly toasted and was cold. I sent it back but they brought it back to me with the hollandaise curdled cuz instead of making me a fresh hollandaise, they put it in the micro!! The worst experience there ever!!! Despite the fact this place has a 3 start review this place is totally worth a 5 star. Service is supremely good, food is delicious. Ambience is charming and cozy with great lighting and design. We try the concha's de la abuela and they were 5 out of 5. Mimosa cart service was professional and very nice. Chilaquiles you can customize to your likes. Ordered 2 mimosas and they were hot. We were already turned off by the gnats and dirty floor we decided to take our check and go. Waitress overheard it was my partners bday and offered a "complimentary dessert". We waited more than 20 min in were charged 35$ for the dessert. She said we should have known and didn't offer any discounts and everything there needs to be paid for. No sorry for the misunderstanding or apologies. The food was absolutely delicious and quite flavorful. The presentation was impressive and picture perfect. Unfortunately, the service is lacking. Our waiter seemed to be having difficulty keeping up with our table of five. We had to repeatedly ask for refills on our water. When we ordered dessert, we had to wait for forks and plates which we had expected to receive when he brought our order. Let's hope he improves. read more

I had the enchiladas suizas and they were absolutely delicious! The pastries looked very tempting, too.

I ordered the Tampiqueña plate. It's a feast! You get two enchiladas a chicken green suiza a chicken mole. The fajita meat was tender and well balanced. The black beans lacked flavor however the rice was very delicious. The guacamole salad was on point the queso fresco was a nice touch. The rajas would have been better with fresh corn as opposed to the can corn. The cafe lechero was delicious reminded me of my childhood. For this spot not being part of the Mexican chain it's a pretty damm good copy! Service was top notch. The ambiance is very welcoming. Absolutely love this place! Food never disappoints I've had the chicken chilaquiles, poblano pasta with chicken, and enchiladas suizas. Everything is so fresh and made to order! Good portions, delicious food, migas and the pozole were simply delicious! The only thing I will change was how the pozole was garnished with lettuce and cilantro which it's not the traditional way to serve the pozole but was approved with 5 stars for its flavor ! the ambiance was very nice! decorations were cute and the servers were welcoming. i really liked the salsas that came with the free chips, and i really liked the enfrijoladas. i normally don't go for chorizo but they added a really nice touch to the enfrijoladas that i can see myself wanting again later. my mom also really liked the chile rellenos, and she says she normally has a hard time finding good ones at restaurants. it was a bit pricey so i'm not sure when i will be back but it was a great experience! read more

Visited establishment with my wife for breakfast, but after reviewing the overpriced menu decided no to eat there. Good thing, because when I asked the waiter for the receipt, he overcharged ($12) us. After having a brief discussion he acted very rude and placed on the table two dollars. We left and decided not to come here anymore. If you ever in Monterrey, MX, just go to the original restaurant where they make you feel welcome and are respectful. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and I think they recently made some changes for the better. While I was here during a down time the service was quick and attentive. We got all of our food and drinks quickly and they even came around with a cart of sweet bread so we could have our pick. On my last visit, like other reviews below, I noticed that their background music was way too loud. This last time however they lowered it significantly and I like to think this was due to customer feedback which is a big plus for me. Shows they are trying to make their guests more comfortable and adjust to their audience. I believe this to be a sign of good management. All the food we had as well as the coffee was delicious and the portion sizes quite generous. I have not yet had dinner here, but if you are looking for a slightly more upscale breakfast option I would greatly recommend giving them a chance. Side note: I do recommend calling ahead if visiting on Sunday though. read more

I guess I came here on the wrong day. It smelled like someone had food poisoning and didn't close the door before flushing. Services was ok, we did have to stand up to get the attention from the waitress for some ketchup. The food was definitely overpriced, 20 dollars for a poorly seasoned milanesa, a smear of beans, and frozen fries? I highly recommend this restaurant. We stopped by for a quick bite to eat and it did not disappoint. We all order the Tampiquena which had 1 mole enchilada, 1 green enchilada, poblano strips (which were delicious), a strip of fajitas, avocado, rice and black beans. My favorite enchilada was the green one, the fajitas were so tender and delicious, the poblano strips were my favorite side. With my meal I ordered a strawberry cucumber lemonade which was very refreshing. Since there was so much food and we were pretty full we didn't get to try the deserts. They looked fabulous though and we're looking forward to stopping by again to try some out. read more

A very homey and family-oriented feeling of a restaurant. The staff was excellent and very warm and welcoming. We had an awesome waiter too! I chose this place as a first-time lunch visit on a weekend visit to this part of Texas. I liked the reviews here and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. My friend ordered a breakfast meal and I had an awesome chef salad with shrimp. I especially liked how they prepared my salad and the shrimp was a bit toasty, sort of, and I loved how they prepared this salad. It was a piece of art. Excellent! Finally, I wanted to comment on the restaurant decor. Very cute place, ambiance was relaxing, perfect. I especially loved the lighting fixtures! Beautiful place, loved the food.
