Years back, I was lucky enough to start listening to Chocolate City when it was on five days a week [clenching fists, dropping to knees]. Still, that was barely enough time to deliver all the good shit he had up his sleeve. Five luxuriously sweet nights composed of the likes of D'Angelo, Jill Scott, Black Star, Marvin Gaye, Common, Fela and Femi Kuti, Les Nubians, old jazz and soul cuts, solid hip hop that no one else played, house music, Latin rhythms, unsigned and local talent, everything on the positive tip. My favorite was when he would play oft-sampled original songs. So enlightening and edjumacational. The man can also relate to guests like no other. In his "past life," Brad was the miracle genius behind the programming that took many terribly failing commercial AM-FM stations, and brought them back to the top. For the past month I have been listening to this free public FM radio station. I have yet to hear a commercial. My only problem is the same problem I have with all radio stations, TV channels, podcasts, and so on... when the music stops, I can barely hear the DJ at times. I turn up volume to hear their interpretation of the symphony and the history of the music... then BLARING MUSIC CONTINUES. I thought the FCC was supposed to fix this ages ago. I've been infatuated with classical music since I began playing the flute in middle school. For whatever reason, it seems to ground me particularly while I'm driving all over Los Angeles County. Perhaps because I can use my imagination? Perhaps because there are no lyrics? No politics associated with it like there is with other genres? My 7 and 8-year-old say they can't wait to go to the symphony with me. I guess this means they enjoy this music too even when they have their headphones connected to their iPads. Thanks, K-Mozart. Even my boss tries yelling over the music "Hey, looking productive today" when I'm trying to drown him out and ignore him by listening to the radio instead. Frisky Radio is an independent online electronic dance music radio station. Its cool techno music (yes, I say techno, I'm European) that doesn't have ads, and upbeat but chill enough to feel energetic and still concentrate on what you're doing. In fact, I'm listening to it now while writing on yelp. That's right. This radio station makes me so productive, I'm done with my work for today and have time to write this review. Maybe I'll even go for a jog. Only thing (hence 4 stars instead of 5): if you're listening to it 24 hrs a day, there are repeats. But event the repeats have a different twist every time. I could go into great length of all the shows that were viewed in my household from Mister Roger's Neighborhood, and Sesame Street when my children were young. As the ages present in my household changed so did the viewing of programs. My husband has been a fan of This Old Housr and Ask This Old House. I have spent countless hours glued to the TV watching Antique Roadshow and NOVA. Of course we have also enjoyed a variety of Great Performances and even get a kick out of watching The Lawrence Welk Show remakes. PBS has programs for all ages. I recommend checking out the offerings by your PBS station and see if you too can find at least one show of interest to you. If you have the means I also recommend making a donation to support Public Broadcasting Service.

I am sure PBS inspired my love of history as well. Some of my favorite shows are/were The History Detective, Finding Your Roots, Antique Roadshow, Are You Being Served and many more. My all time favorite shows are Keeping Up Appearances. That is one of the funniest shows of all time. I can watch that all day. Back in the early nineties in ATL remember watching Opera Singers Jessie Norman and Kathleen sing Negro Spirituals that was unforgettable. I bought the CD of this performance. This show will move your soul. Some of it is on You Tube. I highly recommend it. So no doubt PBS has been life changing for me and hope it stays around for future generations.

During the fall and spring semesters you can hear students programs that are produced by the students. Some are awesome shows(like mine..hehe) and well others can use a little work, but the thing I love most about this station is that it's raw. Every time I listen to it I feel as if they are playing songs directly for me--- seriously, it's that good!
