I've listened to 103.5 growing up in LA in the 80s and 90s. I've moved away from LA since then, but I visit frequently and this is one of the stations I still listen to when I'm home. Yesterday, I was shocked to hear an incredibly disturbing and threatening ad about deporting immigrants and how they will be deported and "never come back". What an unwelcoming message. My parents are immigrants and I am a first generation American, born and raised in LA. LA is a beautiful city of immigrants. I will no longer be listening to 103.5, unless they remove this offensive and hateful advertisement. read more

We were part of a House Christmas decorating contest. Tonight we were judged and we set up for 2 weeks with KOST playing. The judges were here off and on from 720pm to 746pm. I'm just responding to their Christmas music program that they run during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. It's kind of ironic that they play Christmas songs for marketing reasons, but Kost staffer's won't (or hardly say) say Merry Christmas to each other or to the callers while on the air. 5/17/17 Dear Kost 103.5 FM Radio Station, I need to share my viewpoint as a listener, I have truly enjoyed your radio station for many years now, that is until today. Today I was driving on the 405 freeway singing along to the songs that were being played on your radio station at the top of my lungs, happy as a bird flying full throttle into the high heavens!!! And then!!! I heard you advertise free tickets to SEA WORLD!!! I couldn't help but wonder if the people that produce Kost 103.5 FM have actually taken the time to watch the documentary "Blackfish"? Blackfish is a documentary about a Killer Whale that was kidnapped from the ocean and forced to live a life of incarceration at Sea World, the Killer Whale's name was Tilikum. In their natural habitat they swim hundreds of miles a day in the open ocean, at Sea World they live in small swimming pools, it's the equivalent of us living in our bathtubs until the day we die. It is morally wrong to support businesses that support the enslavement of living beings that share this planet with us. I would like to share a quote by Paul Watson: "If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the Civil War, don't look at where you stand on slavery today. Look at where you stand on Animal Rights." From where I'm standing it's plain to see that Kost 103.5 fully supports media blackouts on Animal Welfare issues, that is why I am boycotting Kost 103.5 from my radio dial. This morning I did something I rarely do... I woke up at 7:36am. Not by choice, mind you, but my very good friend Aunny D had a big interview today and needed a ride to the airport and since I live in the Valley, ding ding ding, guess who got the AM honors of taking her, hehe. After frantically rushing to get her there, almost running over some school children, going to ATMs that didn't work and did I mention being awake at 7:36 in the AM, we finally got it all together and I dropped her slightly nervous and anxious butt off at the terminal and she was off to catch her flight. As I was driving back to my bed...oh sweet, sweet bed, I remembered that the morning has...morning shows. There's a concept I'm unfamiliar with since it's been years since I've had to commute with my car radio as my traveling partner, so I thought I would give a listen and see what this crazy pre-10am world had to offer. First was kevin & bean on KROQ. They were interviewing some guy about some film and it was kinda boring. Next. I then hit up Indie and listened for a bit, but I kinda wanted to hear some tunage, so, Next. I then stumbled upon KOST 103.5. How this got on my auto-program dial I have no idea, but Mark and Kim were on and talking about Delta airlines. They then started talking about how some genius at Delta forgot to latch the luggage hatch and as they took off and were in the air, all of the luggage spilled out and still hasn't been recovered. I laughed. Granted, if that was my luggage, I woulda been pissed, but at the now still really early time of 8:03am, it was damn funny. I then called Aunny to tell her this story. Her reaction, "Um, is that supposed to make me feel better?" I said, "Yeah, you didn't check luggage, see, it could be worse!" Look, I never admitted to being a morning person, so maybe my comforting words of wisdom were a little off, but hey, I blame Mark and Kim since they gave me the knowledge I simply spouted. A Lovesong for Anna... I flew into LAX the other night (2/25) around 11pm from Dulles and when I climbed into my car to drive home after a long day of travel, my station was tuned to Lovesongs on the Coast on 103.5 KOST. I can be such a cynic and usually think that the show and the love dedications are completely saccharine and the songs totally cheesy, but I was too weary to change the station. Sometime shortly before midnight, a gal named Anna called into Karen Sharp, asking if she could play the ultimate cheesy love song: "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. I lifted my arm to switch the station. But Karen asked Anna who the song was to be dedicated to and a flood of emotion came tumbling out of Anna, who had obviously been holding it in while making the request. "My fiance Jason," she said. "He died last week." Jason had an aneurysm and though the song didn't have any particular significance, she said that it felt appropriate because she wanted him to know that she would be ok without him. Karen asked what her favorite memory of him was and Anna said, "Probably a road trip we took together to San Francisco. It was the best week of my life." Sometimes I wonder if anyone still calls in to dedicate songs to others and yes, they do. And sometimes a dedication will reach through and touch others who are listening, as well. I am officially old. I like KOST 103.5. They play some great songs from the 70's to today! Where else can you listen to Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, The Fray, and Coldplay? Nowhere. They play all your favorite pop songs. Yes, many of the songs are cheesy, ala Love is a Battlefield, but they are fun! And who doesn't love a good love song? Mark & Kristen are so funny to listen to in the morning. They are the right amount of lame. Sometimes Kristen tries to be fun and so Mark has to calm her down, but every once in a while he'll surprise you and be funny. And come on, Love Songs on the KOST? Who can't appreciate listening to how hilariously cheesy those dedications are before you sing along to I'll Be? read more

I remember listening to this station as a kid hunch over my radio and waiting for Barbara's Streisand's "Woman in Love" to come on so I could tape record it. Barbara describes my feelings best with: "Mmm. Mmm. Memories, light the corners of my mind Misty watercolor memories of the way we were. Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind smiles we give to one another for the way we were. Can it be that it was all so simple then or has time rewritten every line? If we had the chance to do it all again tell me would we? Could we?" Sweet nostalgia. With some things in life, consistency is comfort. This station is great with blending new hits with classics--all the while keeping it's soft rock tone. This is the radio station you listen to when you don't want to offend everyone around you (who inconveniently all have varying tastes in music). Did I mention this radio station makes me fall asleep? It's better than Lunesta..way cheaper! It's not that the songs are bad, but that the songs are so well known and so overplayed that it starts boring you to death. This really sucks most when you're the one driving around parents+aunt+cousin+cousin's preteen kids and the old folks want to listen to jazz, cousin wants pop, and the kids want to listen to hannah montana. So someone decides this is the best station to listen to, and then I start dozing off after 10-20 minutes listening to the same 20 songs perpetually on repeat and quickly change to indie 103.1 so I don't start falling asleep at the wheel, but a pissed off aunt changes back to this station cause she doesn't want to hear Radiohead or anything to do with Jonesy, repeat indefinitely. And this station ruins songs for me. I end up deleting songs played by this radio station off my iPhone more quickly than usual. Like A Fine Frenzy's Almost Lover. Thanks for ruining that song by playing it so often! I will stick with my kcrw and indie 103.1 thanks very much. read more

I hate LoveThoughts because when people mention serious relationship problems, the DJ's tone does not change as she segues into a requested song. I'd never have this as one of my presets. I miss the old KOST where they would play quality music such as Chicago, Hall & Oates, Bee Gees all the time... Now all they play is pop music .. For instance the last song played before I switched stations to 98.1 and to write this review was Stay by Rihanna. Are you serious? 103.5 and 104.3 seem like the only two radio stations that are acceptable to play in the workplace. Both radio stations play relaxing music which you can tune in or tune out of. And, everyoen seems to like it. I listen to these radio stations occasionally... but I have a few other favorites. I hate this stations with a passion worst DJ's and crappy playlist on a daily basis. first of all do they have anyone buying new music from the current decade whats wrong with playing more current artist. Looks like KOST has caved into political correctness and purged it's Christmas playlist of any overtly Christian themed Carols. Been listening for a week now and haven't heard one. All we get now is just the "generic" stuff about Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus. My guess is some sniveling, whining, overgrown baby called in and manufactured some controversy, and the the evidently cowardly KOST obliged. Of course, if they have to explain it, they'll cloak their cowardice in nobility and start spouting off the usual politically correct drivel responses like "we're proud to offer a diverse range of music for our listeners", or "at KOST we strive to be inclusive".
