8y anniversary

The fish is so fresh and always order their sake & hamachi sashimi. This time we got two orders of spicy hamachi and shrimp tempura rolls plus unagi nigiri. In the last six months we've been coming here monthly and am always so pleased with its freshness. The hostess/owner is such a sweetheart always going above and beyond to make us feel special and appreciated. What can I say, the space is bright, happy, full of island vibes, and lots of Aloha.

Excellent service from door to seat and door again. Cute atmosphere with a fantastical beach-themed decor which includes Snoopy, lemurs, tiny soy sauce bottles, and a surfing cat. The delicious food and much of the graphic art is credited to the chef-owner. The food is fresh, eye-catching and the owners only use authentic wasabi, ground as needed. This place is always a hit. You can now bring your own wine for a $20 corkage, and offer a cooked fish special. We tried their paradise sushi special and were blown away by the incredible array of flavors. It was unlike any other sushi order I have ever had, with a touch of something which seemed to be a layer of aromatic greens. Outstanding.

Omakase

We ate here for the first time and I was blown away. Made reservations via text message about a month out and got three seats at the sushi bar. It's a small restaurant with a few tables and seats at the bar. Very cute and playful Japan meets Hawaii decor with a bit of peanuts characters thrown in. I loved the driftwood Christmas tree! Service was wonderful despite the restaurant being full at 7pm. We started with some Hakkaisan sake and beer. The sake was dry and smooth, just the way I like to start a wonderful sushi meal. Of course I had to order the omakase, which I opted for the "Sushi B" set, which is the basic omakase but with a few additions including tamago, ikura, and since I cannot eat squid I believe they subbed tai. Everything was outstanding. Very meticulously prepared and sushi was fresh, flavorful, and expertly crafted. My favorites were the hamachi, maguro, and aji. Overall we had an amazing meal and we are already dreaming of coming back before we leave Maui. Highly, highly recommend!

Fishermans miso. Tasty, but bowl is half filled

I acknowledge this review is in the minority. Perhaps it's an excellent place for locals and less for tourists. We had sub average experience. They are open 5-8pm. My group had rsvp at 6:30 and there was only one other party of two at the bar when we arrived. No one else came in after us. I have no doubt this is a beloved business run by a husband and wife team, but objectively service was significantly lacking for such a slow evening. It took awhile for water to be served and our glasses were only refilled once. We were mostly left alone except for when food arrived. The food was on par with what you pay. Except for the fisherman's miso soup- came with a shrimp head and a half filled bowl, no shrimp meat to be seen. It was warm and muggy inside. No AC. Sitting on upholstered couches felt sticky and comfortable. Overall was memorable but not for the right reasons

Aloha Sushi (B) omakase - $77 - 12 kinda of fish

Randomly walked in on a Friday night at 7pm, there was only one other group here - and we were hungry for some sushi! Background ambiance is a chill playlist. The two owners that run this small place do everything - makes sushi, serves food, cleans up dishes... Definition of a small business. For four people we ordered 2x chirashi, 2x aloha sushi (B) plates (12 different fish/items), ankimo sashimi, 1054Togashi roll, and a fisherman's miso soup. Meal came out to just over $400 for 4 people after tax and tip. -0.5 stars for finding ants on one of the plates we got - but the quality of fish, speed of service, general ambiance - you don't come here for "cheap" eats - you come here for the authentic food and fresh fish. For just the two of them this place is a quaint, homely place to get a meal - I am certainly glad I dropped in, but it's expensive to be a regular here, for sure. Definitely recommend trying this place if you are able to walk in (or get a reservation?). It's in a plaza where there's plenty of parking and I didn't have any problems finding the place after I figured out how to get there.

An authentic Japanese meal and experience! The husband and wife owners are also the only two employees. They are kind, thoughtful, and detail oriented. The presentation was incredible and the food/drink were perfectly fresh and delicious!!! You can try to walk in but making a reservation is a good idea especially since they can only have a limited number at any given time. Oishi!!!!! :)

Super small place- reserved for the 6 of us and pre-ordered our food the night before. A Mom and Pop store with the Mom doing the serving. Sweet lady but we were not offered any refills on drinks. Our preorder included the omakase A and B. Miso soup, California rolls and seaweed salad. -Cali roll- 5/5 very tasty with real crab but the pieces were cut too large -seaweed salad-5/5 not your normal green seaweed-- it's in a soupy (mirin?)mixture with a dark seaweed. It was surprisingly good with a nice vinegar bite The omakase is all on a plate- no real explanation of what you are eating - All in all, good but the omakase experience wasn't there.

Sashimi Platter B

We come to Maui for two weeks in March, second to golf and eat. After playing a round of golf at Wailea Gold, we rushed to 1054 Togoshi for dinner. We started with the white snow shake and the wasabi ika (diced squid in a mild wasabi sauce). We look forward to this dish as we cannot find the same quality in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our wives both ordered the chirashi (delicious and fresh sashimi over sushi rice) and two sashimi platters B. Oh my gosh, the sashimi they serve is so fresh and delicious. They also use fresh wasabi instead of the reconstituted powder wasabi. It is not as hot and is so much more delicious. I would highly recommend 1054 Togoshi's if you desire the absolute most delicious and fresh sashimi or sushi. Satore will take great care of you if you're dining for sashimi or sushi. And her husband is a true master of preparing fish for sashimi and sushi.

A small family run store, this delicious spot is open only for a few hours a night. Grab a reservation if you can, and checkout their Instagram because they mention preferring reservations via text, I also usually will call ahead if I don't do that. Their miso soup is unlike any other, every bite of sushi tasting so fresh. They have non alcohol and alcohol options.

Such a quaint, beautiful place. We were there Tuesday and are returning on Tuesday night for more delicious suishi. Some of the best sushi I've ever had!! Yummy! Service is amazing considering it's a husband/wife team handling the whole restaurant.

Do they have outdoor dining?

No it's very small and all indoor seating. With going to for certain!!

Does this place have anything for non-sushi eaters? Something like teriyaki, or tempura? This place looks great but we have one or two non-raw fish people. Thank you.

Yes! They have amazing grilled butterfish. You have to wait around twenty minutes as they cook it fresh. It's amazing.

Until we came to Oao, our favorite had been Nobu, down the road in Wailea. Well, I am here to tell you that, hands-down, there is a new gold medalist in town! The quality, presentation and taste--every single course--knocked it out of the ballpark! And, much to our surprise, the last Main course of Wagyu beef was a veritable grand slam! We came for the Sushi, but never in my life have i tasted such heavenly steak! The exceptionally aloha-friendly staff, such as Ronson and Iggy, were above and beyond helpful. Add to my snobbery my pallet for a good sake. Well, Iggy was able to steer me to an exceptionally perfect Daiginzo brew to complement our Omakase feast of the evening. Be sure to include an order of mussels, and you can't go wrong with anything Hamachi, such as the carpaccio. The atmosphere is somewhat traditional sushi bar, with an aloha flair. It is not very spacious, and will fill up in both guests and noise. Tune those out and you'll be fine. By the way, be sure to make reservations! A Word of warning, this is a sushi bar in the heart of Maui, and is it priced accordingly. That said, it is well, well worth the splurge!

Walked in before 5:00pm with no reservation for a party of four. Well, that was a mistake. Despite idle wait staff and maybe only five occupied tables out of 20-30 total they made us wait for about a half hour. The reason was other people made reservations and were expected. When they finally sat our party the restaurant was still 2/3 empty. There was really no reason to keep us waiting that i could see. When you see someone in the party is disabled and using assistive devices you should be more accommodating. It kind of felt like we were being punished for not having a reservation. Also, expect a 3% service charge for the back of the house. Really, for the prices they charge for mahi fragments you could pay those people without a surcharge. Portions here are tiny. My mahi fragments were dry, over spiced and served with two unseasoned baby bok choi leaves and a slice of grilled tomato. For the price of almost $40.00. The beer was good and so was our server so they got one star for that. Otherwise, this place is touristy, overpriced and the maitre d' is slow on the uptake. Overall, there are plenty of great restaurants on Maui, recommend you try one of those.
