YES! YES! YES! Finally tried Oku's. So glad I did! The outside looks very simple. The inside is very simple. But the food was absolutely fresh, delectable and heavenly! The price is reasonable and the ambience, very comfortable. There are only 6 tables, and after treating the reviews, we came early at 3pm, so we didn't have to wait in line. And gladly, it wasn't busy at all!!! Perfect time for early dinner. Love love love the dynamite scallops, and ordered a second dish of combination dynamite (scallops and shrimp). The salmon sushi was so delicious, and so was the Unagi roll . My most favorite is the Hamachi poke. Extremely scrumptious! And the rice.... Simple deliciousness!!! Unlike any rice. I wonder if they import the rice from Japan??? Or what is on the rice???!!! Yes, recommend this place if you like authentic Japanese food!!!

6 tables, authentic sushi. Soft tasty pieces of fish served with humility. So good. There's 8 tables and the sushi bar. Just no AC.

Love sushi and have had some delicious sushi all over the world including Japan, and this was some of the freshest sushi I've ever had! Had nigiri (hotate, hamachi, and maguro) as well as the spicy yellowtail roll. All was super delicious and fresh. One of my kids got the Japanese chicken curry and loved it. Service was fast and friendly. They made sure our water glass was full. Just one server and one sushi chef but still got our food pretty quickly. Came on a Friday night around 3:45 and no issues getting a table. Clean and tidy space with room for maybe 16 people total plus I think some bar seats. If you like fresh sushi, this is the place for you!

5 tables/14 seats, 5 seats at sushi bar. We enjoyed the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and rainbow rolls, starting with edamame. Each roll was beautifully prepared--fresh, simple, and full of flavor. The space is small and intimate, with limited table and bar seating, making it best suited for couples or small groups rather than larger parties. An understated, hidden gem that delivers excellent sushi in a relaxed, casual setting.

Delicious!!! Very small mom/pop operation close to south Maui Gardens. We popped in for a "light" lunch around 12:15. It's first come, first serve so get there early. Very fresh sashimi and nigiri, presentation was outstanding, and price point for portion was great. My only regret is that we hadn't tried this place out earlier in our vacation, we would've eaten there twice! Closed Sun/Mom. BYOB

We've been to Oku's Sushi a few times now and it's always amazing! The sushi is super fresh and flavorful, our favorites are the Amaebi nigiri, Tamago, spicy tuna roll, Unagi Donburi, Dynamite combo, and Ikura. Cozy little spot, family-run, fair prices, and BYOB which is a big plus. Seating is limited, but totally worth it every time.

I love this place! The food is authentic and outstanding. The service is kind and attentive. The fish is fresh and expertly prepared

Originally from California and having spent three weeks in Japan, I can confidently say this is one of the best hole-in-the-wall sushi spots I've found since returning. If you're impatient, this might not be the place for you--but if you appreciate true sushi craftsmanship and the artistry of food, make sure to stop here. The restaurant is run by an older couple, and they are an absolute delight. I was blown away by how fresh and impeccably cut the sashimi was. The ginger and wasabi were incredible--after trying another sushi spot where both were a disappointment, it was clear that Oku's only uses the highest quality ingredients. My wife and I were so happy we stopped by--I only wish we had time to visit twice!

Worth the 45 minute drive in traffic from kaanapali beach. This hidden gem in a strip mall features lovingly hand-crafted sushi and Japanese specialties. The restaurant is tiny, with only 4 tables and a sushi bar, but was clean and felt authentically Japanese. The service was genuine and friendly. We went mid-afternoon for a late lunch around 3pm. We heard that it gets quite crowded for dinner so we were happy to miss the rush. Overall a delicious experience.

Everything was incredible. Loved the yellowtail and kihea rolls. 100% recommend, best sushi in Kihea!!

I had to modify a reservation due to jet lag, and the woman who handled the entire 15 person dining room, knew exactly who I was when i walked in, even though I had never been there! It's literally only the husband behind the counter and the woman taking care of taking orders, serving, and checking in on every diner. The small decorations are fun and whimsical, especially if you sit at the sushi bar. Prices are very fair for the quality of the fish and although they do have set combinations, I preferred to create my own. I got the miso soup, albacore, yellowtail, Maguro, shrimp tempura roll, vegetable roll, and negihama. I ended up ordering enough for 3 people, but since I was staying in a condo, they graciously packed leftovers to go with condiments! Count on about $100 per person if you have a drink and a hearty appetite. A beautiful gesture upon leaving was being gifted a fresh flower!

Traditionally, sushi chef put soy sauce and wasabi in the between the fish and rice, and it's part of the flavor. I don't remember how it was done last time, but that was not the case this time. I had to awkwardly flip the nigiri pieces and dip the fish side in soy sauce, and then they fall apart. Ugh. Also, I didn't appreciate the size of the rice. It was impossible for me to eat the whole piece in one bite, but it's kind of rude not to under the traditional Japanese etiquette. The fish quality was.....okay. TBH, I had better in Sacramento/Roseville for way cheaper. I had more elegant, delicious, and satisfying omakase in San Diego, New York, Shanghai....you name it. For the price (even adjusted for the Maui premium) and the capability of the owners, I truly believe they could do better. Sending love!
