Two of my friends & I did that annoying, spur of the moment, "Hey! Let's get tattoos!" thing to commemorate our friendship & their upcoming wedding (which I am in). We did this in Morgantown, WV. Myself & one of the girls were tattooed there, & it was great work. The other girl didn't have her ID on her, & since she looks 12, it definitely wasn't going to happen there. So we drove back to Pittsburgh, got her ID, & looked for someone open late & taking walk-ins... Enter 10th Street Tattoo. Bobby was super friendly (a trait that is unusual in tattoo artists, & therefore much valued). He was able to copy the design EXACTLY, for about $50 less than the other shop, & he made the whole thing a welcoming, kick-ass experience despite us not following great tattoo etiquette. Next time I come out to PA, I will be setting up an appointment with Bobby, & I know my other two friends plan on coming back also. Highly, HIGHLY recommend him. read more

Dude there named Johnny scams people out of money by telling them to leave a deposit to save a spot for another time then refuses to honor the booking. He says he won't do the tattoo and you can't have deposit back. Gets very nasty once he has your money. He was also shaking A LOT. Noticeably bad. Highly recommend you avoid this place. read more

When I decided to get my first tattoo, the first thing I did of course was research the best artists in Pittsburgh. When I learned that Mook had opened his own shop, I knew I had to go to 10th Street Tattoo. (If you're a true Pittsburgh-er who doesn't know that name, shame. SHAME!) Anyways, I was extremely nervous -- until I walked into the shop. It was a laid back environment, and most importantly, incredibly clean. Mook was able to draw up my design exactly how I wanted it, and the size I wanted it. My friend got a quote on her wrist, and we were both blown away by the fact that he free handed the text. It is so much more authentic looking than a Microsoft word type, and looks *amazing*. What I was most impressed with was the sterilization he did between our tattoos. NOTHING in that room was left unsanitized, he even covered anything he touched with disposable plastic bags. Even though he was wearing gloves. As a certifiable germaphobe, I felt cleaner in his shop than I do in my spotless bathroom. Awesome artwork, sterile environment, and bomb artist; must be expensive, right? Wrong. This is the lowest minimum in the city of Pittsburgh. Everything about this experience was PERFECT. read more

I went in for a tattoo one afternoon, Greg drew it up for me right away. It wasn't what I asked for so I asked him to tweak it a little bit. A few moments later he came back with something that I liked, however, his attitude wasn't professional at all. He seemed annoyed that I didn't like what he drew the first time, even though it would be a drawing that would be on my body for the rest of my life. He also seemed to be under the influence. With his demeanor being far from professional, I didn't feel comfortable with him marking my body. He got even angrier when I told him I wasn't going to be getting it done, and he started yelling. The artwork that I have seen my friends get done there looks amazing, I just wish my experience would have been more satisfactory. read more

My cousin and I went here on Saturday night to get tattoos. She was in from Texas for our family reunion. Around 8 pm, we decided that we wanted to get tattoos together. I had one in mind that I've been wanting and she knew what she wanted too. I used Yelp to look for tattoo shops and most of them closed around 8 pm. 10th Street was open until 2 am and I read some reviews that said they do walk-ins, so off we went. When we got there, the shop was clean and there was a lot of quirky artwork and sketches around the shop. One of the artists greeted us and said that the wait would be 1.5 hours (which was fine with us). He took our names and what design we wanted and then went into the back. He came back out with another artist, Mook (the owner of the shop). He said he could take us right then and there! So we showed him what we wanted and he actually made some suggestions to tweak our designs to make them look better and then we sketched them. He showed us the sketches and then we went to the back to get tatted. We didn't get big designs and Mook was very quick and efficient. Each of our tattoos only took about 10 minutes. I have been looking for a tattoo artist in Pittsburgh and I have found one. I definitely would go back to Mook and recommend him to anyone looking to get a tattoo. read more

I had an awful experience here, and unfortunately, I'll have to be reminded of it every day for the rest of my life. Upon walking in, the artists were arguing with several other customers. A client even came storming into the parlor, yelling at the artists about how rude and unprofessional they were. That should've been my cue to leave, but for some reason I stayed. Big mistake. I received a tattoo of a short quote from a book on my hip. It was far more painful than any of my other tattoos, and the artist rushed through it. They also overcharged me (they told me a price on the phone, then charged an extra 40 after it was completed). I was in excruciating pain for over a week after, and I bled like crazy. As the tattoo healed, I realized the entire thing was blown out. Not only is it very thick and dark, there is an awful blue haze all around the tattoo that looks like a permanent bruise. I am already looking into either having the blowouts removed or the entire thing, but it will be EXTREMELY expensive and it will take quite some time to save up enough money for the treatment. I don't regret the tattoo, but I can't even put into words how much I regret going to 10th Street Tattoo to have it done. It could've been a very cute tattoo if done right, but now it's just an eyesore. It affects my confidence and I tear up every time I see it. Please do your research before selecting a tattoo parlor and MAKE SURE the artist you choose can properly execute what you're asking for. read more

I got my tattoos back in July, and to my dismay I was what the doctor explained as "over worked" half of the tattoo is a raised scar which is a pain to look at. I had hoped it would go down with time, but that hasn't happened. The other one turned out okay but they were meant to be a pair. I believe Greg worked on me. read more

I got my septum pierced here earlier this month and i took it out today cause it was very infected and i realised it was pierced through not the upper cartilage, but the lower visible cartilage. I wondered why it hurt so bad when i got it pierced. I'm real bummed cause i have to wait a couple months before i can get it pierced again at a better, more reputable shop. read more

I am making this post under someone else's account because I do not want to be bothered after making this post. I was tattooed by Johnny a few months ago and I am still pissed about my experience. Not only does the tattoo look like shit (inconsistent lines, gaps in ink, clearly overdone lines), but the tattoo is incredibly scarred. I have many tattoos, have healed them all perfectly with no issues. This one is so incredibly raised to the touch still and often times hurts. He offered touch ups in the future before I even left. I would never let him touch another part of this tattoo. I have since explored options to get it removed since it looks so bad, and every single person I have seen has said it is severely overworked due to an over heavy hand. Which also means I am stuck with a shit piece of work, scarred that is unable to be revised at this point in time. Maybe other people have had good experiences here but I should have walked out the second I got there. Shit attitude and permanent damage done. read more

I've been to more than a couple tattoo shops and I've never had a better experience than I do here. I've now been tattooed here 3 times and never been disappointed. Not only is the wait always short, but my tattoos always come out exactly, if not better than I expect. Tonight I went into the shop with a couple of pictures and a general idea of what I wanted, and when my original was out of my price range, the artist worked with me to make sure I got something that I could afford and was still true to my original idea. Above and beyond customer service and great friendly guys. Love this shop and hope to get a few more here while I still live in Pittsburgh. read more

I wanted a simple cross with a banner of my late Grandson's name in it. I had a pic of exactly what I wanted. Hiw hard coukd this be, right? And the artist has been doing this ford over 20 years????? He sucks. My grandson's name is not in the font I wanted and you can barely see any of the top of the cross. Do NOT see Max. And he charges me $300 For the cross and a 3word verse which is NOT spaced right. Looks stupid. I called and he could have cared less read more

I have over 30 tattoos and finally i found my home. I will only go to mook or anyone at 10th street. First its not pretentious. Even though the artists are amazing they are down to earth and fun to talk to for however long you are getting tatted up. Secondly they are clean and sterile and the chairs are very comfy. I'll be honest i love getting silly tattoos and mook and i have a good time laughing about the things i pick. Prices are reasonable and i actually love to tip there because i dont take care of .y tattoos i dont use sunscreen, i pick at thwm. I am probably an artists worst nightmare but i have never needed a touchup once. His lines are good they dont fade or run and he isnt drilling into your bone to get the ink to stay. They have the coolest specials for friday the 13th and halloween even though i usually miss them. Nothing much else i can say. I reccomend it to all my friends. It is everything a tattoo shop should be. Good art, great artists for custom stuff, clean, good fair pricing, fun conversation. The work was fine but I got ripped off. They didn't quote me a price prior to getting the tattoo and then charged me $100 for about 10 minutes of tattooing. I literally got three words done. Also, they provided absolutely no information about after care. The guy was awkward and rough with me. He shaved my arm prior to doing the tattoo and was too fast and rough, causing some minor razor burn. I chose to leave this review because the excellent rating is why I went here in the first place. My friends and I came down last night at around 9 to get small tattoos. We came in as walk ins and we're taken almost immediately. Greg was our artist, we showed him what we wanted and he priced them for us (my tattoo, about the size of two quarters, was $60!!) Greg was super nice and fantastic and made us all feel super comfortable, especially my friends who had never been tattooed before. got my septum pierced here by Pj. definitely not your typical piercing shop where they try to move you in and out as fast as possible. he was very knowledgeable of the process and explained the whole thing to me as he went along, and was very thorough in the after care steps. all in all, I would definitely recommend coming here. great people, great atmosphere... thanks again Pj!! read more

This is just usually a place for people walking by getting spur of the moment tattoos. If you're actually planning to get a tattoo and not going after a night out, I wouldn't recommend it. While the service was alright.. The woman that pierced my nose used a lip stud. Within two weeks skin had grown over the stud because it was the wrong jewelry and couldn't compensate for the swelling. I had the rip it out and get my nose repierced at another shop with the correct jewelry and now it's great. Make sure you know what jewelry you need and check before they pierce. read more
