Black bean quesadilla and a side of fries
    Chris O.

12th Fairway is probably some of the better $15 airport I've had in recent days. I ordered the black bean quesadilla and a side of french fries. The quesadilla came with this great green salsa. I had to go up to the counter to ask for a server to come by our table, but otherwise the service was fine.

Chicken Breast Wrap (minus the lettuce, tomato, cheese, and ranch dressing)

From what I've heard, El Paso Airport has made some major upgrades in the last couple of years. One of those upgrades is the addition of Mesa Street Grill's 12th Fairway Bar & Grill. Mesa Street Grill is known as a fine dining restaurant, which the 12th Fairway is definitely not. But sometimes you have to settle when you're hungry and waiting for your flight. What you expect to get here is just your basic apps, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Prices are a little high, but that is to be expected since it's in an airport. Taste on the other hand, is questionable and really depends on what you get. I've had their Chicken Breast Wrap on two different visits. Don't let the pictures that I posted fool you. The wrap really isn't that big. I get mine with extra chicken. I usually get the wrap plain as can be with just the chicken breast. No fail here...this is pretty good and healthy. I have also had their salmon fillets. Salmon is not on their menu, but can be added to any salad for an additional $8.99. Since salmon can be ordered as a topping, why not as a meal. I ordered two of these and was really disappointed. The salmon was edible only because I was hungry. Otherwise, it wasn't flaky, lacked taste, and texture. Another lesson learned...I'll stick with their chicken wraps. As for the restaurant itself, it's clean, the staff has always been great, and you get a fantastic view of a parked airline. Woo Hoo!! TIP: If you're bold and decide on getting their salmon, you will have to order something else off the menu. The 12th Fairway cannot ring the salmon alone without attaching it to something else on the menu. Weird...I know.

    Southwest Chicken Salad

We received really good service. You can seat yourself at this restaurant. We received menus right away. The food was really, really good. I got an avocado citrus salad and my dining partner got the southwest chicken salad. We were both pleased. I took off a couple stars because this place was way to expensive. Our bill was $35 for two salads and just waste to drink. Also, the waitress lectured us for not telling her before we ate that we wanted separate checks. She had asked before we are if we wanted separate checks. We said no, but then didn't realize how expensive it would be, so after the mall we changed or minds. It wasn't enough that she scolded, "Next time tell me BEFORE you order that you want a separated check," she had to chime back to our table and repeat it. Don't worry. We won't bother you next time.

3.5 Stars: Stopped in before my flight left for a snack and a drink. Decent wine and beer offerings, and a full bar can be found here. The menu had a lot of yummy looking offerings (bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños, grapefruit and avocado salad), but I opted for some quick chicken quesadillas because I didn't have much time and I knew they would be fast. They were pretty tasty, but a little on the bland side. On the upside, everything tasted fresh. Quick, friendly service added to the experience. Overpriced, but hey, it's in an airport, so this is standard. Will definitely stop back in on my next trip through El Paso.

In spite of computer outage, they managed to keep serving, unlike other restaurants in the terminal.

Food is actually ok. The problem here is the servers take forever to take your order. They are nice, just a lazy culture.

Decent . food . decent prices. The view is cool. Not a bad meeting spot here at the El Paso Airport.

I personally love El Paso Airport. Whenever I'm leaving, I'm excited about where I am going and…read morewhat I'll be doing soon. And whenever I return, I'm always looking forward to my home and my bed and my life here. And it's a nice, easy airport to navigate. It's the equivalent of a 2-3 block walk between the check-in and bag claim areas (which are next to each other) and most gates (up one level and then to the right or left.) We are neither a big crazy airport nor a tiny airport. We're right in the middle. Airport staff are generally quite nice. Restrooms are always very clean to spotless in my experience. Precheck is a plus to sail through security in 1-5 minutes, but there are rarely long regular lines unless it's peak times on holidays, after a large event like the Sun Bowl, or a there's a large group traveling together. Areas for improvement: El Paso hasn't updated to provide a lot of outlets to charge devices - it should try to add some power stations with seating in the terminal. Concessions are a bit of a weak point. I wish they were less bland, less expensive. It would be wonderful if the selections better represented the El Paso/Juarez region. For example, I would love to see Chuco Relic selling their goods at the airport, and someone selling some food and alcohol from our region (such as our NM wineries like Lescombes, Zin Valle and Rio Grande, and our El Paso breweries like Aurelia's, Mountain Star and Three Missions.) There are lots of great local restaurants that would be great to see, too. Mexican burritos make great airport to-go food. Sadly, much of the US isn't familiar with true Mexican burritos -- but should be. I also think an airport El Taquito and a Panda Burgers would do well. I'd like to see Carne Asada, Barbacoa, Deshebrada, Machaca, Cabrito, Chile Rellenos and tamales available. It would also be nice to see more local art (we have amazing talent here!) and some more local history of the region, or profiles of people who contributed to making the El Paso / Juarez / Las Cruces region what it is today.

The new system the airport is using to "streamline" paying for parking is misleading. The system is…read morerun by a company called Metropolis, and they scan your vehicle's license plate when you enter a lot so it knows how much to charge you when you leave. I looked this up in advance and the info said to scan a QR code at the lot entrance to set up an account and enter in my payment info. Hell no, I'm not doing that. There wasn't a QR code at the entrance and it took a minute to find a sign with one but they're posted high up on the light poles for some reason. Another sign said the rates for the long term lot increased from $7 to $9 per day. All the info I've read online and what was stated on the airport's website said people can still pay with cash and not have to use the new system when you leave. Well, that's not true. When I was leaving I asked two employees where I could find a kiosk or something to pay for parking and they said everyone has to use the new system, just head to the exit and follow the instructions on the display board. I did so and when I pulled up the board showed my license plate number and told me to scan a QR code to proceed. I did, and it opened my messages app and was trying to get me to send a text message to complete the transaction. I didn't know what was going on but nothing I did could get me anywhere else so when I sent the text message I got a reply with a link to Metropolis' website to pay the fee. Why did I have to go through a text message just to get here? Couldn't this system just send me to the website directly? I didn't have to make an account to pay but I had to enter my credit card information like I was making an online purchase. I was also charged a $2 service fee for the transaction which pissed me off because this wasn't mentioned anywhere online or posted on the signs at the parking lots. What used to cost me less than $30 for parking my car here for the weekend now cost me nearly $40.
