the service was great, even on a busy sunday our waitress was very nice and patient. i ordered the lechon sandwich and added cheese and avocado to it and it was a great combination. the meat was juicy and tender. i had a cafe cubano on the side of course. other dishes on the table, the bistec sandwich and the ham eggs and cheese sandwich. the restaurant was beautifully decorated and smelled amazing. would definitely recommend for anyone who's craving a good cuban sandwich.

While searching for a lunch spot with my kids, I wanted to take them to somewhere new and NOT a franchise. They opted for Cuban and we made our way over to 1492. When we arrived we were welcomed and directed to a table. Menus were brought over shortly and we were given time to review. My girls were thrilled to find milkshakes on the menu - and such great prices. They got the pina colada and mango versions. We also ordered the empanada trio and papas rellenas as appetizers. For entrees we order the masitas de cerdo fritas with white rice & black beans, Elena Ruz Cuban sandwhich and the sandwhich de pollo empanizado. Everything was great. The black beans and pork needed just a little bit more salt, but I was able to add from the side and also use the chimichurri to add more flavor. My girls loved their sandwhiches. They can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. My oldest is already talking about coming back and now Cuban is her new favorite!

Food was phenomenal! I can't wait to bring my Cuban mom here when she visits next. Everything was delicious, authentic, and generously portioned. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the Cuban art, décor, and music made the whole experience feel immersive and special. Service was a bit slower, so it's best to come when you're not in a rush... sit back, enjoy the atmosphere, and take it all in.

Rating: (3 out of 5) Location: 1492 Cuban Fusion - 2615 W. North Ave, Chicago, IL I had a craving for plantains and rice and finally decided to try out 1492 Cuban Fusion. The interior is super charming--Cuban-inspired decor, cozy atmosphere, and plenty of seating. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, and I appreciated how they took the time to answer my questions. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian options on the menu, so I sampled a few dishes. I started with the café con leche, which was rich and delicious. The veggie empanada was good--cheesy and flavorful--but I do wish it had more vegetables in the filling. I couldn't choose between sweet or savory plantains, so I got both. The sweet plantains were the standout for me. I also had black beans and rice, which paired perfectly with the plantains, plus a side of fries. Everything was a bit on the carb-heavy side, so I took some home. While the food was tasty overall, I would have loved to see more veggie-focused options. For a first visit, I'm giving it a solid 3 out of 5. I'll definitely be back to try some of the more traditional dishes on the menu.

I love that the foods are not too salty or sweet. Although it's mostly fried, it didn't taste too greasy. All of the sampler items were really good, the plantain made so many different ways. The fish sandwich was on the smaller side but was very tasty, crunchy bread and juice fish. The sweet bread is pretty heavy but fluffy, plenty of meat that's tender enough but not dripping with liquid, so on the drier side. The sauce on the table chimichurri was so good with everything, a must-use on all of the foods. I loved that the coffee wasn't sweet and uses oat milk. The flavor of the roast was really good too, like cocoa. The Mamey milkshake was a hit, really a lot like papaya but also avocado combined. Not too sweet but smooth. The coconut flan was good too. Overall we were pretty happy with the foods. Servers and staff were nice too, and pretty quiet in general and leave you alone. Plenty of space actually, they have their own bathroom, but it is street parking.

Update.... Visited today at 9:55Am before they opened at 10:00Am. When it was time to open the female with black long hair did not open the door on time nor did she acknowledge us waiting outside in the cold. Her & a man with an apron were taking their time setting up, laying the rug down, turning on lights etc. Minutes later I waved at her and she ignored me. I even telephoned and she didn't even answer, so we left.....for good. Not a good way to treat your customers. Bad for the business.

Popped into this place on a whim and I wasn't disappointed. My friend got the sweet bread sandwich and the pork was amazing. I got the pulled pork plate with white rice and beans and the fried sweet plantain. Oh man, those plantains were so, so good. I could eat them for days. The pork, mixed with rice and beans and the mojo sauce...what a pleasant surprise this was! Highly recommend this place for delicious Cuban food. Wait staff was quick and helpful as well.

Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I absolutely love their warm French fries with the white sauce. The chicken sandwich was decent but I added the white sauce because it was dry and a little hard.

It has been SO long since i have had empanadas. This place has an appetizer of trio of empanadas that you can choose from. My selection was ground beef, chicken and ropa vieja. Every bite was a delight. The papas rellenos and yuca frita were great as well. Their garlic sauce can go with anything! Wish they sold it in stores. The decor was awesome as well. There were some tiles with funny sayings in Spanish. The staff was very friendly as well. I only wish they had a liquor license.

We drive 25 minutes to come here for great food and excellent service! Our visit today included a media noche and a Cuban sandwich- both of which were flavorful, fresh, moist and delicious. The third dish was the lechon asado with a side of white rice and black beans, and sweet plantains. The meat was super tender and juicy, and the beans were also tasty. Hot, crispy fried yuca and well-seasoned ham croquetas rounded out our main meal. Flan is usually how we end the meal but today we had the tocinillo (part flan part cake) and it was equally sweet and delicious with a traditional cafe con leche and cortado. Service is always friendly and timely, and the space is bright and cozy. It's our go-to for delicious comida criolla!

Proof it hit--clean plate and one sweet plantain left standing.

It was early Sunday afternoon, and we were too large a group to arrive without calling ahead. You walk up a lovely old half-flight of stairs under an ornate ceiling. After a short wait, half of our party went elsewhere, and the remaining four of us were quickly seated. The front area is mainly a café, with maybe 10 seats at tables for two. Farther back is a hallway and a larger room with seating in booths and at high-tops for maybe 40, and maybe 6 more at a small bar. The staff is quick and friendly. The food is delicious and fresh and hot! And the music is loud and festive :-) We had the thin-cut savory palomillo steak, a generous serving, pounded to tenderness, served with classic wet black-beans and white rice, sweet soft platanos maduros plantain pieces, and some greens and tomato. We had a lovely colorful medium-sized Mojo Shrimp in tart garlic citrus mojo sauce, with sateed red onion crescents, tomato chunks, and parsley. And we had the huge slow-cooked tender shredded-beef Ropa Vieja pressed sandwich, sauced lightly with slightly-tangy creole sauce, served with platanos maduros and black beans. All of their food delightfully authentic. We liked it so much, a few days later we ate at their South Loop location, too!

Additionally with the warm welcome and exceptional service from our waitress, I appreciated the attention and care we were given throughout our Sunday evening The restaurant itself is a hidden gem tucked into a small plaza by Uptown. Beautifully decorated with a lush, botanical ceiling and wooden interior, its a great place for an intimate and quiet time with a special someone You are served complimentary, fresh plantain chips accompanied by a housemade guava dip that was honestly one of the highlights of the meal. The drinks were sweet and refreshing but on the stronger side The eggplant starter was really good, the breading being crispy and light, which still allowed the eggplant to be the star - also cooked to a really soft consistency as it should be. The main really sold the meal though - i had the beef ribs (no bones) which was braised to perfection - despite being a leaner cut for ribs, it was still extremely tender to the bite. Although the meat was on the saltier side, the yuca mash along with the sauce really helped balance each bite The portions are generous so by the time they presented the complimentary birthday dessert (believe it was their bread pudding), I was stuffeddd!
