We are still looking for good Chinese takeout in Apopka, and unfortunately we did not really enjoy this. The positive is that the prices seemed fair and the location itself was nice inside - it would actually probably be better dining in and ordering for pickup here. Unfortunately though, the food was just bland. Even the plain white rice was not good, and that's a first for ANY Chinese restaurant I've ever gone to. I'm just never had rice that tasted like nothing. The Spicy Beef we had was actually Szechuan Beef (but with green peppers) even though they have a separate menu item that is Szechuan beef. I don't like Szechuan anything, so that was a big disappointment. Additionally, the green peppers served with it tasted weird (chemically? unwashed?) and the white rice tasted like nothing. I should add also that the menu states green and red peppers, but mine were only green and the peppers were only the top and bottom of the pepper. We also had Sesame Tofu, which is usually fried and then tossed in brown sauce and topped with sesame seeds. This tofu was just stir-fried, so it lacked texture. It also didn't come with anything else - typically broccoli would be included, but not here. The menu didn't have any description saying it would, so that's not their fault - it just was, again, disappointing. The fried rice we selected with this was also bland. Again, I've never had bland fried rice. Portions seemed small (no leftovers), too. Overall, we just know this won't be our go-to Chinese takeout. The hunt continues.... read more

My family and I went for an early dinner at 168 Chinese Restaurant for dinner. We love it here. The booths are comfortable and the music is on softly for background and ambiance. The food is fresh and delicious. We started with a hot pot of tea. Then had the trio consisting of steamed Dumpling, Crab Rangoon, and an Egg Roll. The Egg Drop Soup came next. We then had our main dishes: beef with vegetables, chicken with vegetables, and beef with mushrooms with fried rice. Everything was so delicious and we have leftovers for dinner tomorrow. The service was excellent and attentive to all of our wants and needs. This is a great restaurant, if you have not tried it yet you should. read more

I was not as pleased as I usually am with the food that I ordered the most recent time that hubby and I joined a group of friends who get together monthly for lunch after bowling. Everyone else had ordered, and we were running late, and I was hungry and wanted to try something different and quick. I ordered the fried rice with chicken, expecting to see chicken chunks in the fried rice. However, the tiny pieces were difficult to see or taste. We were not disappointed in the service, only the food. I would definitely order something different the next time the group goes. read more

We visited 168 because it came highly recommended. Once we were sat at table the service was quick and food was on the table on no time at all. Here comes the bad news. The food was not very good at all. My wife's wonton soup had absolutely no flavor. Tasted like boiled water. Her dish sweet and sour chicken looked so unattractive. Some decent take outs but that's about it. We found 168 Chinese in Apopka about a 35 min drive from us. Good food good service and lo and behold inside seating.... Not only is the food itself mediocre and not so tasty. The service is absolutely terrible if you are of color. No greeting, passive aggressiveness not even a thank you. just extremely rude and short. I will never be returning and I will be advising anyone who knows me to not come to this restaurant because I've never been treated so badly. Also does not smell good inside. This restaurant is too expensive for the food that they serve. Lunch specials should not be upwards of $20 again, never return returning. read more

The plain lo mein noodles are yum! The Sesame chicken and the General Tso's chicken were both really good. Better than a few places. Their fried rice also has flavor! A lot of places it will look like it has flavor but really lacks it even with all the extra stuff they put in it. Here it looks plain but packs just enough yum We get a few main dishes and eat the leftovers the next day for lunch. read more

my husband and i have gone to 168 over 25 yrs..... miss the original owners and chefs but it's still good. However.... We have dined in less since Covid with has be fine. My husband recently passed and i decided to dine in. From the beginning the new server was very unfriendly, she mumbled and kept walking away when I asked a question. Within minutes if serving my soup she started asking if i was finished, I said I'd take it home but she didn't understand. I had to ask three times for my main dish. She sat over at that desk in the back corner and glared at me. I'm in a wheelchair so not sure if that had any factor in her behavior if not. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and had many Chinese restaurants to sample. Orlando, there are Chinese restaurants, and thus far, from the ones I've been to, they're not very good. Fortunately, the 168 Chinese restaurant is an exception. The food was decently prepared, so that was a pleasant surprise, having consumed food in other Chinese establishments, and looking for the nearest bin. The issue is that Chinese food in Orlando glistens with grease or is not made to my palate. Some may disagree, but having had California and New York City-style Chinese food, it's far better than most of the swill offered. Anyway, 168 has an adequate menu of favorites, such as shrimp and snow peas, Lo Mein, and pork dishes my son craves. The sweet and sour shrimp was a clunker, with tasteless shrimp meant to be dipped in fire-red dyed sauce. A plus is that you can choose from fried rice, brown rice, and/or steamed white rice. As an aside, California uses Lo Mein and Chow Mein interchangeably. If you want a thinner noodle, go with the Lo Mein. The service was quick and met our requests with alacrity. The restaurant does more take-out business than sit-down. The restaurant was clean, with booths and tables that were old-fashioned and dated. I would go back, so now I have a decent Chinese restaurant to visit in the Orlando area. read more

Been living in Apopka for a year now. With this quarantine, we've been eating more at home, but we were in the mood for some take out Chinese. I called two places and both had BUSY tones... 168 got my business because after calling over 8 times, the phone rang and they answered. Greeting was a little strange. I wasn't even sure I had the right place at first. They took my order. I was very specific: I asked for steamed shrimp & broccoli with white sauce and my daughter wanted beef broccoli. They asked us what kind of rice we wanted as the side; white, brown or fried. Now... when she told me the price for these 2 orders, I about slammed on the brakes!!!! $32.10 Ummm... I asked if they had different sizes and they said "no"... one size... well, I figured I would still give them a try. They told me 30 minutes... which was to be expected given the take out only situation. My shrimp and broccoli was good. I absolutely love white sauce and always ask for it everywhere I go. The plate was not out of this world but they do give you jumbo shrimp. My daughter's beef broccoli was an 8 on a scale of 10. I tased a bit of the beef and it was a little sweet to me. I am not sure if I would order takeout dinner again... maybe the lunch portions..... but for $30 bucks, I wanna sit down and enjoy eating inside. Went with my adult son recently early on a Friday night and was greeted and seated promptly. Pleasant, professional waitress and hostess seemed to easily deal with it being fairly busy with take-out orders and seated customers. Food good and fresh and plentiful. Ordered here for the first time this week. Had 2 vegtable egg rolls, pork fried rice and General Tso's Chicken. The chicken was really good as were the egg rolls. The pork fried rice had very little flavor but was ok. Don't know if I would order from here again. read more

We have lived in Apopka for a while and there are not too many Chinese restaurants. There is one near us and it is kind of scary to go into. We found 168 and decided to try it. When we arrived it was packed, which was a good sign. We were still seated quickly and greeted by a very friendly server. He was the only one but was very fast and efficient. After bringing our drinks he brought a bowl of wonton chips. They were good, but nothing I would eat too many of as they were kind of plain. The soda comes in 16.9 oz bottles but was enough to fill my glass a few times. I ordered the Egg Drop Soup and Trio Lo Mein and my partner orders General Tso's with Fried Rice. It arrived in a few minutes and was piping hot and well seasoned. I gauge my opinions of Chinese restaurants by their Egg Drop soup. Some are water, some are jelly like, and some are well seasoned and flavorful like it was here. We are happy to have found this place and will be using this as our regular Chinese restaurant. Only downside was the dining room was a little messy but was probably due to limited staff. The staff that was there was great though! read more

OMG! Best Chinese food hands down. I'm a huge fan of the shrimp and broccoli with white rice. Also love the honey chicken, crab rangoon, chicken lo mein, and veggie lo mein. The service is ok but could be better. They often try to get over things like the potions of rice and sauces. Last time I ordered crab rangoon and noticed that they didn't provide the sauce. When I called about it they said that you have to ask for the sauce now. Other than that, the food is always so good and it doesn't take long either. They have inside seating in their restaurant although I've never sat in personally. read more

This was a disappointing meal, especially since 168 was recommended to me by a friend. Every part of the experience, from the original phone call to place the order to finishing the food, was awful. When we called in our order, the lady on the phone was rude and condescending. I wanted a vegetarian dish, and when I asked if I could get that with vegetable rice, I was told that I had to order that extra and I'd still be charged for the egg fried rice. When we picked up the food, she called for David when our order was up, which is not the name that was on our order. I ordered General Tso Tofu, which was as I expected: tofu drenched in General Tso sauce. The tofu wasn't crispy, and the chunks were cut very large. There were no vegetables in either the tofu or the rice, and there was way too much sauce. My boyfriend ordered Sesame Chicken and had the same experience: the meat wasn't crispy, no vegetables in either the meal or the rice, and too much sauce. The only positive part of this experience was that their vegetable rolls were good. I'll definitely be crossing 168 off of my list of Chinese restaurants to visit near my house. read more

The beef lo mein was not lo mein noodles but some flat wide noodle, the beef was so soft and chewy ( not a beef texture at all). there was nothing else in the noodles but " beef" no vegetables, nothing. the fried rice all it had in it was some egg here and there. nothing else,no onion or vegetable. First timer. Called in a pick up order and right away the person on the other line was pleasant so that's always a good sign. I didn't feel rushed on the phone either which I appreciate. I ended up getting something simple just to try the place out which I got the family sweet and sour chicken and opted for the fried rice. The "family portion" included 1 egg roll, 1 crab Rangoon, 1 dumpling either steamed or fried and a soup of choice. All of which were really good! I will say it was only one of each item which was disappointing because I thought it would be a few of each since it was "family size" but I will day it was only a $5 up charge which isn't bad to get some additional appetizers to your meal. Sweet and sour chicken was very good. Crispy and didn't taste like it was fried in old grease which places tend to do. The sweet n sour sauce also was good. The fried rice was good but I was disappointed it was just fried and had eggs. I would've liked some veggies in it since their rice was actually tasty and not that yellow rice a lot of places like to give you. I would absolutely go back and try other items. Great food. It's a little more expensive than the competition, but you get a ton of food and it is so consistently delicious. Everything is fast and fresh. Our favorites are the krab rangoons and the 5 flavor chicken. Don't pass this place up for the cheaper options. You get what you pay for. read more

Was apprehensive to try this place again. Back about 4yrs ago, it wasn't good at all. They must be under new management, b/c everything we had was amazing! Started with hot n sour soup- had a little too much bite for me, but the tofu was very fresh. Decided on satay beef and chicken- both served with peanut sauce. For dinner we each ordered something different. Chicken w/ cashew nuts, General Tso chicken, Triple Delight & Chicken in black bean sauce. Everything was fresh and delish! This place is easy to miss.
