We visited this gem on our first visit to Merced. We were in the mood for some great beer and pizza and our amazing bar keep helped us with great recommendations! We ordered beer and walked down the street to order our pizza and bring it back. It was great to hang out and take our time while waiting for our son's next water polo game. They do a great job of keeping this place super clean. The vibe is very casual/college town - which fits since this the college is nearby! I am overtly happy to see a place like this in Merced providing a much needed dose of delicious and well-made quaffables. It's like an oasis of magnificent nectar in a desert of Natural Ice. Small (it may get crowded) but with decent seating, excellent selection of craft beer (both bottle & tap) and knowledgeable folks behind the bar with friendly attitudes. This public house is smaller than I am used to, but even though they have a small drink menu; the 12-20 beers that they do stock are quality brews. They do a great job providing a variety of beers from breweries of all sizes, many of which are local to California. Most of the menu consists of common everyday beers from Coronado, Heretic, and Flying Dog, but if you stop in at the right time, you can catch some tasty seasonal selections like 21st Amendment's Hell or High Watermelon. What a chill little joint!!! Situated smack dab in the middle of "downtown" Merced. Great selection of local craft brews and wines (I'm a beer-o, not a wine-o) so can't really comment on the "vino type" libations. Staff on all three of my visits were super cool and I had three different bartenders each time!!! A little on the smallish side on the interior. My biggest gripe would be the restroom situation. Only one "community" restroom for what is basically a beer joint? Almost pissed my pants after beer #2 waiting to get in. Worse yet... Can't fart up in there without being called out!!! read more

Too bad this place opened after I graduated, I would have hung out here more often. Air conditioned place, but it is quite small, and fills easily in the afternoon. They have a good assortment of drinks with decent pricing. The only thing I wished they had was some snacks and food, but otherwise its a nice place to chill and catch up with friends. BTW only place in Merced (for now) that has serves the largest variety of craftbrews so we can't be too picky with what we have haha read more

Right on main street and close to other bars. This pub is great for beer lovers. The Pine & Palm is delicious. Its a must try. They dont sell food or liquor. The bartender is friendly. They have a good wine list. Theres only one bathroom. Overall, i'll go back for the beer just not the atmosphere. read more

I live in Fresno and a friend of mine lives in Manteca so we picked 17th Street as the halfway point to have a beer together. I'm glad we did, this place is awesome. It's a long narrow space with a bar on the left and some seating on the right. Reminds me of how all bars used to be. Except that the decor is very modern industrial and there's big front windows to let the light in, with also a few tables out front. Very nice. They have rotating taps weekly so my second time there was totally different than my first which makes every stop in a beer adventure. The bartenders are very knowledgable about their beers and super nice. I stopped in on Sunday and had the whole place to myself. Friday after work was a bit different and the place was very packed. Service was still excellent regardless so don't be worried about stopping in at any time. Great pub and this will be a regular stop for me for sure. read more

We really enjoy this place and the beer selection. A huge variety of bottles and bombers which is always a nice option. Also, a large variety of taps, with rotating handles and tap takeovers. Merced has a pub! Merced has a pub! I was stoked when I came to town after being gone for 5 yrs and seeing some very positive changes, 17th st being one of them. It's pretty cool to have a place to come hang out with friends and have a beer or two after getting out of class. This pub is tiiiiiiiny though, and both days I came here it was packed. Probably not ideal for a group of 4 or more. Bartenders were very nice and quick to take orders and pour out the beers. The ambiance was very laid back and perfect. Now, I'm not a beer expert or anything but they seemed to have a little bit of everything and the prices were reasonable. However.... they only serve beer here. Which is why I didn't give it the 5th star. And when I say "only" I mean that in a literal way. No food, no other form of alcohol, not even peanuts, you've been warned. read more

Came a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and my cousin to celebrate her 21st birthday. Coming here was very chill only because we came around 4 pm (don't judge us). It's a new bar from what my cousin told me and it really is a nice bar. They have tons of beers on tap and an extreeeeemely large selection of imported beers to choose from. While we were choosing what we wanted, tons of people came in and got what seemed like a sampler of beers that looked fun to try out and get a good buzz from. The bartender would fill up cups from the tap and I'd watch him overflow cups because he didn't want the extra bubbly part on it. My boyfriend and I looked at each other like *whoa what a waste! But wow extremely kind of him to go that extra mile for his customers. I kind of wanted whatever they were having... But since us three were all picky about what we wanted, the boyfriend wanted a tap, the cousin wanted some sort of crazy lager and I wanted something very fruity... we were all getting something extremely different. I don't remember what my cousin got because she loves her beer and wanted to try some crazy beer out... and my boyfriend got Blue Moon which was eh... I got a sour apple cider which was freaking BOMB. I'm just not at that point where I can say that I "like" beer because all [domestic] beers taste the same to me. And it still makes me cringe when I drink it. I'm glad that the bartender was able to let me sample tons of stuff I've never tried before because once I settled with the apple cider, I was able to enjoy it on my own without people helping me finish my drink! :) That's always something to applaud to. It's a great bar, greattttt service and extremely generous and kind. If you're looking for a good buzz, sample some stuff out and do ask for recommendations! Love this little joint!! This is what Merced needed! A place to just chill, have good drinks with good friends, music (although sometimes it's too loud, you'll feel like you're shouting because everyone else is shouting as well), and right atmosphere. The place is quite small, and I don't like the fact that most people smoke in the front, very small patio of the entrance. I mean, I get yalls gotta smoke if you're hooked, but it just feels crammed already before entering. It can get quite crowded in there, which I have seen people, and I myself, have left due to over crowding. Idk if they ever not let folks in due to max occupancy, but usually you can tell by just looking through it. If they could expand to the closed Forte next door, that would be awesome. They have flights there, and the bartender will actually let you sample flavors before you even get a flight. The bartenders there know their beers and wine fosho, as I assume they should. Love IPAs and some stouts. They change up their selection time to time, so keep an eye out for your favs! read more

Great place to hang out with friends with great selection of beer :) Spent a day in Merced and so glad that we stopped at the Public House. I grew up in Merced, and this is a piece of modern eclectic bar that you'd find in the Bay and other large cities. No Bud or Coors here. All micro/small breweries which really makes this perfect for the young working professional / college student. You come here b/c you enjoy a good beer and have good company around. The staff is also great, our bar tender was very knowledge about the beer on tap and provided us with great selection. This is a must stop if you want to hang out in Merced. read more

I have been here during the day and during the night. It's always empty during the day and is very laid back and relaxed. The temperature is always a mild chill, then at night it becomes way too cool if you catch my drift. Selection of craft beer is plentifully diverse, capable of entertaining all types of taste buds. I can decide whether I want to get smashed like a hapless college freshman or be more dainty like a French flaneur. The ambience is very hip and trendy. Everything feels new and earthy with the interior design although a bit of a tight squeeze on certain Saturdays. Everyone is so kind and friendly. My only wish is for their hours to extend later after 1 or 2, it would be nice to stumble in at 3 AM during those introspective, soul-searchy nights. read more

I like this place. They have a really nice selection of beers, lambics, ciders and wines. I like the vibe. I wish there were more bars like this in merced honestly! Sometimes I feel like when you enter you have to be part of the club where everyone knows each other- sometimes feels a bit cliquey, and seems a little uncomfortable walking in- like you have to prove something. I don't know, I wish that was different but other than that I think the interior is v updated and definitely the nicest place to grab a craft/local beer/wine : ) (*there is no sparkling wine FYI- I think there needs to be a different license for that, but just in case anyone wanted 2 know!) read more
