Wonderful fresh food. Building is new too. Love the crispy fries! Wonderful establishment and the service was excellent.

I hate to be that guy, but there is no way this is a 5 star place. Let's just be real here. I can let anything below slide if the food is good. It's like if Cousin Eddie opened a place on the inside. I am not hating. I am just saying. Hell, I kind of dig it if I am being honest. It's like a flea market blew up in there in a way. I hope I am painting a good picture for you. I am not going to be a complete asshole and talk too bad about the unfortunate dental situation with the server we had both times, but it's less than ideal to say the least. It has to be painful. Poor thing. I do realize it's Old Towne Olive Branch and you only have places like SSB, OBPC, AIP, and a Sonic to really choose from. Taco truck used to be great, but it's not the same now that it's in the Gin. So it's almost a food desert, C had told the place sucked when she tried it with her Mom when it first opened. I kept telling her that it was getting 5 star reviews over and over. So I convinced her to give it another try. My first, her second, visit was actually promising and I had some pretty high hopes of finding a local place to come grab a meal without driving to Collierville or Memphis. We started with the Eggroll/Wings combo. Forget the name now, but it was funny. The wings were pretty damn good. Fried well. Spicy buffalo was all too common, but good nonetheless. The Eggrolls were ok. Basic Reliance brand type stuff. We both had smoked meats on that visit. I had the ribs, and C had the smoked chicken. My ribs were fantastic! Chicken was good too. Beans were not for me, too sweet and thick. Corn Nugz were fried hard and perfect. I am a sucker for corn nuggets man. Slaw was out of a bucket. Baked potato was hard, cold, and old. Meats were either the star of the show here, or I was extremely high already. I don't remember. They did have Killer Hogs white sauce, even though it had expired unopened. Ugh. My second visit was terrible. Everything sucked. My food, C's food, all disgusting. I am pretty sure that what they are serving is NOT catfish. The Hushpuppies were cold and hard and the corn nuggets were underdone and sucked too. The cheesesteak thing was bad too. Just clumped up nasty. Server said the turnip greens were "great", but they were not. No seasoning to speak of, no meat or fat of any kind, just kind "soulless" if you will. We could not leave fast enough. Then our server disappeared like forever. We went to the front and stood at the registers for close to 10 minutes before another server comes and lets us pay for the food we did not eat. I've heard really good things about this restaurant. So my husband and I decided to try it. Upon entering, the place smells like smoke from the grill, but it went away in the dining area. We were seated quick and our waitress was very nice and attentive rhetorical whole time. Their "menu" could definitely be updated. It's just 2 papers stapled together written out from word document. The place looks new and nice, but the tables and chairs should be replaced to make the interior. The only thing really keeping this rating from being a 5 star though is that almost everything was over cooked. Except the cornbread muffin. That thing was so soft, moist, and a little sweet too. The sample appetizer had a lot of good flavors. The honey gold was delicious, but the wings were dry from being over cooked. The mozzarella sticks had a thick batter that made it a bit hard. The best appetizer was the southwest egg roll. I had the chicken Philly cheese, the chicken was over cooked on that too. As well as the onion rings. It all had a good flavor though. My husband had the pulled pork burger and it was pretty big, but also big flavors. This place is out of the way for us, but I wouldn't mind coming back and seeing if maybe it was just an off day. read more

Food was delicious and would recommend. We had smoked pulled pork, ribs, and chicken leg with green beans, fried okra, corn nuggets, baked beans, coleslaw. All were great. Service was good but took a long time to get our food. We had a huge party that put in their order before us so it was an hour before we got our food. Server was very apologetic. I just have to write a new review...1836 Desoto has moved to a new location! They are now across from Dairy Queen off of 305 still in Olive Branch! They are killing it...great business, phenomenal food, super cute decor, and local musicians upstairs on Saturday nights! The staff and owner are so friendly and it's great to see them having a well deserved success! Everything we've tried is delicious! I was attending the FedEx St. Jude's Championship in Memphis this past weekend and stayed in Olive Branch for three nights. I happened across '1836 Desoto' and it was a wonderful experience. From the outside it basically is a block building, but inside it is a food haven that appeals to your taste buds. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, and 'sweet tea' on the side. The previous night I had eaten somewhere in Collierville that didn't offer 'sweet tea' and they looked at me like they were unfamiliar with the term. Thankfully, just across the border in Mississippi, my love for the South was reaffirmed. The service was excellent and was just the friendly, polite, fast attention to my needs that I would expect from a local dive. After all, we treat people like family in the South; until they give us reason not to! The atmosphere was pleasant with a family feel, clean, well lit, and no music blaring. My waitress was attentive, positive, and quick to see to my needs while dining. My food arrived and it was delicious. The bun was perfect, the burger better than even I could have hoped, and the service remained excellent. They had quite an array of desserts, but after the sweet tea, I didn't imbibe. We went to try the BBQ at their new location. They were out of fries, Cole slaw, beans, Mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. We left without ordering. How can a restaurant who advertises a grand opening run out of food and then be proud of it. My family of 7 arrived at this restaurant and about 6:30 on a Friday night. There were numerous open tables and no one was waiting to be seated . We were told it would be a 25 or more minute wait for our large group. There were two 4 top tables right to the side of the entrance. When I asked if we could just push those two tables together she said she would have to ask. 10 minutes later she came back and tells me they said no they have a party of 12 waiting and can't seat us first. There were many other open tables that could have seated us or them if just pushed closer. What is wierd is there was no party of 12 anywhere-- not inside standing or seated or outside. Needless to say we left and they lost our business not just for the night but most likely forever. I hope they will soon realize that our large group would probably order more than the potential 2 or 4 people they may or may have not gotten to come in later at those two tables. Excellent. My wife I found this after a gas stop driving through the area. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I ever had, not the dry finely shredded pork most places serve, this was big juicy chunks of perfectly cooked pork. You'll need a fork for this one. Baked beans as a side was an excellent choice as well. My wife had the fried chicken sandwich, another standout sandwich. Service here was excellent, food prices were very reasonable, the quality of the food, best of the best. If I was local to the area, easy decision to come back here often. read more

The ribs did NOT disappoint!! Soooo tender and a good flavor. I loved that they weren't covered in sauce. The loaded tater salad was delicious My husband had the Mockingbird...a fried bologna sammy with bacon & fried egg and he loved it!! Very tasty. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly service!! I haven't eaten in the restaurant but we picked up a lb of pork bbq and it was excellent. Being an old competitive cooker and a bit of a bbq snob, I'm impressed. I'm neutral on the sauce. It's a Tops/Coleman type. read more

Stayed next door and walked over for dinner. Staff were friendly, but meal wasn't great. Baked potato wasn't cooked all the way, the chicken quarters were dry and tasteless. Not sure what rub or seasoning that was on the outside but again, but had no flavor. The Mac and cheese and coleslaw were good! read more

We were a party of 6 and tried this hidden gem on a Saturday night. Our table had sampler appetizers to start with which were all delicious. Entrees consisted of ribs, smoked chicken, hamburger steak with gravy and fried fish. All were cooked excellent and were delicious. Service was excellent as well. The smoked meats were exceptional. Food was ok, had fried catfish with slaw and baked potato. They were out of hushpuppies. My guest had a cheese burger and fries which was good! Service was excellent. Waitress was friendly and came by often to check on us. The owner also stopped by the table to see if all was ok. The ambiance is country casual in a steel building decorated with no particular theme. I will go again. read more

The food is amazing! My favorite is The Nola (muffuletta). It is so good! And I also love their gumbo! The staff is great too!
