What a dreadful experience. We arrived just 5 minutes before opening and were greeted by three women who simply stared at us with expressions of disbelief that we had walked in a few minutes early. We were interested in having cocktails, appetizers, and discussing the possibility of hosting a party at the venue. There should have been a greeting and ushering to take a seat, while they finish up before the 5 minutes of opening. One employee abruptly directed us to another woman who was sitting and folding napkins. Without even getting up to greet us, she spoke to us from her seat in an unwelcoming and dismissive manner. When we asked about banquet and event options, rather than taking a moment to explain or answer basic questions, we were simply told to look at the website. For a business that should be trying to attract event bookings, that level of customer service was disappointing and came across as uninterested and unhelpful. First impressions matter, especially when potential customers are considering hosting an event. A warm greeting and professional interaction would have gone a long way. Instead, we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Additionally, management should consider addressing the front entrance door, which was difficult to navigate and gave an overall poor first impression. Attention to basic maintenance, along with improved customer service training, would significantly enhance the guest experience. Unfortunately, based on this interaction, we chose not to stay for drinks, appetizers, or pursue hosting our event there. I say, My companion and I stopped in after our wine tasting and tour and are we jolly-pleased that we did! The interior is a mixture of quaint and contemporary, sporting decor that harkens to both their unique history, as well as their geographic location within New York State. The Staff, as within the Winery, are attentive and kind, and the food was excellent. Everything was fresh and well-presented! The food, however, did take a rather long time to arrive. This was despite being one of few other patrons within the establishment. In addition, the prices were rather steep, especially the charcuterie board which, at $28, seemed steep for some meat and cheese. We'd just spent an hour or so touring the winery, followed by a tasting, and we needed something to eat before starting the drive back, so since it was right there, we decided to try out the onsite 1839 Restaurant & Bar. So glad we did! The place was pretty busy, but they fit us in without a reservation, and our server was friendly and smiling. It is Hudson Valley Restaurant Week so they offered a prix-fixe menu but we were just there for a quick bite. French Onion Purses were amazing. A soup dumpling basically, French onion soup sits inside a crispy fried wonton with melted Gruyère cheese. We also had Parma Skillet Bread. Creamy Burrata was perfectly balanced with Prosciutto di Parma, Sweet Fig Jam, and Chili Flakes sitting atop personal pizza sized flatbreads. Came to have late lunch/early dinner. Our server Valerie was great! Very attentive and helpful! The restaurant itself is very casual. You definitely don't need to be dressed up! Decor is simple but nice. Reminds me of a fancier bar type of setting. Food: French onion purses, 2/5. I prefer the actual French onion soup. These are little dumplings. They're okay, just a bit dry. 5 pieces in one order. Chicken fry, 4/5. Chicken florentine, 3/5. Steak, 3/5. Burger, 3/5. Sweet potato fries, 3/5, they're thick, so they are a little mushy/soft, not very crispy at all. Gluten free chocolate cake, good but tastes like a big chunk of fudge. Cheesecake, delicious! Cappuccino, delicious! Apple cider sangria, delicious! We asked for the burger and steak to be well done, but it still came out medium so make sure to specify and emphasize if you want well done. We have been to 1839 several times for catered events and also for lunches and dinners in the main restaurant. Although the catering has been good, our family of 25 had a wonderful experience in the main dining room ordering from the standard menu presenting a much better side of the character and ambiance of 1839. The service was wonderful and Trishes help in pre-ordering apps helped get things started. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon in memory of our departed father, father in law and grandfather. read more

We were there with a party of 5. At first we were seated inside, but requested to be seat outside since it was a beautiful day and the life music was rocking. The hostess went out of her way to accommodate us. The service was good and the food was serviced promptly. The salmon with butternut squash risotto was excellent. The mahi mahi was good. After a lovely time wine tasting and touring the cellars at Brotherhood Winery, we opted for lunch at 1839. We ordered the 1839 wings as a starter and they were crispy and flavorful. They're mango habanero flavored and served with blue cheese crumbles. For my entree I decided on the Tuscan Caesar with burrata and added grilled chicken. The ingredients were fresh and it tasted great. I found it to be really filling with the chicken add on. My husband ordered the Chicken and Waffles, which he really enjoyed. His cousin had the Chicken Parmesan special and her husband had the Penne Ala Donato with burrata. We were all happy with our meals and were far too full for dessert. read more

A solid "good" I'd say this restaurant is. Brought my husband here for his birthday accompanied by the rest of the family. The food is "good", the drinks unfortunately felt watered down - as typically I'm quite tipsy from 2 scotch rocks, it was not full of body like I'm used to. The seating inside is a little odd and cramped. Outdoor seating is awesome and the little village area to walk around is adorable! They don't overly indulge in knowledge of allergens in their foods, as the server had to frequent the kitchen several times to ask about ingredients in the menu items. It would have been nice for a kitchen staff member or manager to head over and offer some advice so the table didn't have to go it alone on what to order. The service was excellent and the food amazing beyond compare. The charcuterie tray was exciting, very different. Unexpectedly had the normal meats and cheeses but also fruit which was a welcome change. The grilled chicken sandwiches were delicious placed on the most crispy artesian Italian bread.
