1st time there it was great the atmosphere the wait staff and the steak I ate was good hats off to chef.

We went as a group of 10 last minute yesterday. Had a great experience. They have only been open a little over two months. We all ordered steaks: everyone one of them came out perfect!!! Kudos to the flame grill chef!!! The side salad are pretty big as a portion and were very fresh. The house wine was served room temp, and I have never found a wine I have liked. Welp, room temp is the way to go. I had two glasses. They were very tasty. Ask for an order of the pita chips!!! You will not be disappointed. The chocolate cake for dessert-YUM!!! Mac and cheese, definitely worth getting. Lastly, the service. Very spot on. They all seemed to work as a team and you could tell. Very much appreciated and makes a huge difference in the overall service at a restaurant. A few things to work on (reminder tho, they have only been open a little while): 1. Person checking the dishes before coming out to make sure they are correct. We had a few salads missing croutons and the wrong dressing. 2. Every baked potato came out underdone. I actually prefer mine that way but everyone else did not. An easy fix is to train that person to touch test them before plating. 3. Ice - Texans like ice in their drinks and there didn't seem to be to be much of it. Again, I didnt mind this. read more

We made anniversary reservations for two earlier in the week. Since we arrived early and the restaurant was nearly empty, we were initially seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. We asked to move to a more secluded booth, and the staff kindly accommodated us. The first booth was next to the kitchen door, so we asked again and were eventually moved to a quiet booth in the back. The willingness to accommodate our requests was definitely a plus. The staff appeared to be young and relatively inexperienced, which may explain some of the service issues. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was a generous portion, along with drinks. When we tried to place our entrée order, there was some confusion about timing, so we waited and ordered our main courses after our drinks and appetizer arrived. Unfortunately, we did not see our server again until after our entrées were delivered. I ordered the filet mignon, which was overcooked. The person who delivered it did ask me to cut into it, and she promptly took it back for a replacement. The second steak came out quickly and was cooked to the right color, but the texture was firmer and beefier than the soft, buttery texture I would expect from a filet. The flavor, however, was good. One detail that stood out from an upscale-dining perspective was that, when a steak is returned and prepared again, it is often brought back by the chef or kitchen manager as part of the recovery experience. That did not happen here. I understand that 1846 is a new restaurant and that the staff is still developing its service standards, but this kind of personal follow-up could make a meaningful difference in a high-end dining environment. My wife ordered the blackened salmon, which had delicious seasoning and flavor, but it was also overcooked. She decided to eat it anyway. The mixed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes were both good. The Old Fashioned was enjoyable, though nothing particularly memorable. Drink and water refills were slow; I was nearly finished with my meal before they arrived. The atmosphere was clean and quiet, with comfortable lighting. Since 1846 is a new restaurant, I think it deserves some patience while the staff gains experience and the kitchen finds its consistency. It is clearly aiming to be a high-quality, upscale restaurant, and it has potential. I would encourage people to give it a try and provide honest, constructive feedback so the owners can continue improving. Greenville could use a great steakhouse, and 1846 may eventually become one. read more

Good food. It's a new place so you have to be patient with them. Ribeye was cooked right, flavor was good. Interesting that they don't state the weight of the steaks though and I've never seen a ribeye trimmed the way they did it. The ribeye and the filet were the same size. Bread pudding was very nice. They aren't yet consistent, but I'm sure that will develop as they become established. The only concern was the 20% large party gratuity for 6 people. 6 isn't usually large party and typically I'd tip more than 20%, but not if there's a large party gratuity for 6 people. Overall, I'm thrilled that they're in downtown Greenville. We need more places like this in the downtown area. read more

We went to 1846 on Friday, August 28th at 6:15 PM. The atmosphere was pleasant, and we had reservations, so we were seated right away. Our server, who I believe was named Caleb, was nice, but unfortunately, the service was not what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. We repeatedly had to ask for drink refills, which is one of the few things I expect a server to stay on top of. With food runners handling much of the food service, I really just need my order taken, my drinks kept full, and to feel attended to throughout the meal. Drinks: I requested a gimlet. While it isn't on the menu, it's a classic cocktail with three basic ingredients: gin, lime juice, and simple syrup. I was told they couldn't make one because they didn't have the ingredients. That was disappointing, especially since lime juice and simple syrup are used in other cocktails on the menu and gin is a standard bar staple. My boyfriend ordered an espresso martini. It arrived in a glass that was only about half full, which was particularly disappointing for an $18 cocktail. If the drink doesn't fill the glass, it would look much more polished served in an appropriately sized martini glass. Unfortunately, the taste didn't justify the $18 price tag either. Interestingly, the woman at the table behind us ordered the same drink and ended up sending hers back. Food: Everything we ordered was technically good, but nothing really wowed us. The scratch-made mac and cheese was heavily lacking in flavor, and the grilled chicken I ordered was slightly overcooked and dry. The burger was fine but nothing memorable. The filet was easily the standout and the one entrée I would recommend. The garlic mashed potatoes were also very good. Overall, I left feeling that the experience didn't match the price point or the expectations that come with a restaurant of this quality. At the prices being charged, I expect stronger service, better attention to detail, and food and cocktails that feel worth the money. For now, I'm giving 1846 2/5 stars. That said, I'm willing to give it another chance in 6 months to a year. Hopefully, by then, the staff and menu will have had some time to be refined. There is potential here, but based on our experience, I'd recommend saving your money and trying somewhere else for now. read more

My husband and I were pleased with our choices, he had the fish and chips I had the filet. Ours were excellent! But we were there celebrating a birthday and the husband of my friend had a ribeye steak that was riddled with gristle and fat and sliced too thin. I asked the waiter to show it to the Chef, I'm not sure he did. No offered to even reduce the ticket which was pricey. We drove 45 miles to here. We won't be back. read more

Fish and chips were great! Great service and atmosphere! Server very attentive and we felt well taken care of!

My friend paid $44 for the ribeye and couldn't eat it because it was stringy, fatty, and had no flavor. All he got was a "we're sorry" from the waiter when he informed him of the problem. No visit from the manager, no offer of a comp, etc. He said he would not be going back. To be fair, my wife said the filet was excellent, and I enjoyed the fish and chips. read more

1846 was a great experience! Excellent food, service, and management. You get to see the glassed-in upscale kitchen with the chef and team hard at work, which was a nice touch. The waitress was very attentive to our needs, and the food was excellent. I had the chicken sandwich with fries. My daughter got the grilled cheese and it might be the fanciest grilled cheese I've ever seen! Can't wait to try more things on the menu...will be back soon! read more

Mediocre to poor fare at lunch. The new small lunch menu suggests that the kitchen staff couldn't execute the full menu. Credence to this assumption was proven when the lunch choices we ordered were poorly executed. Rubbery , lukewarm chicken that barely resembled chicken fried chicken with bland mushy coating. The white gravy tasted like sugar had been added. Strange. Barely warm side. Cold (very cold) soup with overcooked rice whose texture suggests it being frozen and reheated was paired with an unappealing salad with the wrong dressing. If you can't execute soup and salad, there's a problem! The fried starter was nice. The server was efficient. (Always leave a good server a full tip even when the kitchen makes the mistakes! ) The woman over seeing the restaurant (owner?) did come to the table to try to redo the kitchen failures, but being served cold soup and unappetizing salad with mistakes made , was not redeemable. Quite frankly, the presentation and appearance was off putting and thoughts of proper health holding temperatures of a meat based soup, entered my decision to send the meal back, and forgo lunch. We love supporting local. It's a shame that the food didn't live up to the quality of the server or the beautiful decor. read more

WORSE STEAKS WE HAVE EVER HAD! We had dinner reservations for 6. 4 of us had the 16oz ribeye steaks ($44), one New York Strip ($25), and one fillet mignon ($36). ALL 4 OF THE RIB EYE STEAKS HAD EXCESSIVE FAT, AND HAD GRISTLE RUNNING THROUGH THE MEAT. THE NEW YORK STRIP WASN'T ANY BETTER. THEY WERE LITERALLY IN-EDABLE! The salad I ordered had sliced over-ripe tomatoes that were brown and mushy. The Fillet Mignon was OK. 4 of the people in our party are guests from out of town, so we didn't make any complaints, but we all agreed that THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE! Most of us had water to drink. 3 of us had a mixed drink. Gratuity is included (20%). The bill was almost $500. I took the steaks home and ground them up (after removing the fat and gristle), and fed it to my 2 dogs (rotties). I felt sick grinding up almost $230 of steaks! I love my dogs, but . . . read more
