Pork belly burnt ends - we ate most of them at this point!
    Mike B.

Love this bar! The people are super nice, the drinks come out quickly with generous pours, and the vibe is a perfect mix of upscale and classic local bar. The pork belly burnt ends? Yes please--actually, bring me TWO orders. They're that good! Perfectly seasoned with pickled onions and pickled jalapeños for the win. Nine TVs mean you won't miss a game, and the service keeps things moving. I ordered the double cut pork chop--perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful. I cleaned every bit off the bone... by hand. My friend had the Artichoke Lemon Chicken and it was pure deliciousness. Outdoor seating adds a great touch, especially on nice days. The only downside? Tight parking. Otherwise, this place would probably be packed every night. Yelp locals--you have no idea how lucky you are to have The Local in your backyard! Plus a view of Mount Rainier just down the street! Wow!!

Cajun shrimp made with a slab of polenta

We really enjoyed coming here for brunch on Saturday. The place wasn't too busy, which is the best because I don't like waiting in lines. I had the cajun shrimp and grits, which was a nice slab of polenta sitting in sauce covered with shrimp, mild andouille sausage, and scallions and celery. I hate celery, but I couldn't taste it. Such a tasty dish. Sis got the loco moco which was a good portion, but the gravy had a little too much vinegar. Sis wishes she had tried the chicken and waffles instead, but next time. Our waitress was great- very friendly and did a good job of talking about the food with passion. The dining room bleeds into the bar, but with all the windows and the couple of booths with leather benches were bougie and I love it. We don't come out to Yelm a lot, but this place has a lot of fun restaurants that we took notice of and we'll be back. I'm definitely coming back for more shrimp and grits.

We've picked up Togo food from The Local before with little to no trouble, sometimes they are a little slow but we finally decided to eat in person. We most likely won't be returning for a sit down meal. For starters: It is incredibly loud in the restaurant. It took over 15 minutes for our table to be recognized and brought a water and Diet Coke, which was flat. We were finally asked at the end of our meal of we wanted a refill on our drinks, but our food was basically gone. We were not checked out at all during our meal. I kept my card out because I didn't know how long it was going to take to pay the bill since it was so slow. It took almost two hours for us as a party of 2 with a toddler to be serviced and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. The table next to us had par of their party leave because they ran out of time to wait for their food and had to automatically pack it up to go. The only saving grace and why I gave two stars is because the food is really good. It's such a shame because we were really hopeful for a good in person experience but this just wasn't it.

i must say i always have great bar/ mid food experience or vice versa but not this establishment ! Zoey was amazing ask for her but the whole staff was welcoming and warm ! If you want to eat and drink great you should check out the local!!!!

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending one of The Local's specialty dinners. It was a Beef Wellington night, and I have to say, it was one of the best meals I've ever had. The starter salad, alone, was fantastic and I probably could've just eaten that! It was a wedge salad with their homemade blue cheese dressing, bacon, and blistered tomatoes. That said, I'm glad I kept going with the preset meal. The Beef Wellington was perfection, it was a generous amount of food, the meal paired perfectly with the cab that they suggested, and the presentation was just beautiful. The themed dessert did not disappoint either. What a meal! Thank you to the staff and management for creating a wonderful dining experience on a rainy Wednesday evening.

You definitely don't want to miss this spot in Yelm! It's adorable! The drinks (even mocktails) are the best around! The food is die for! And the company is like coming home! Ask for Melissa if you drop in!

The house cheese burger. Get it!

Holy shit, this place is awesome. My wife and I stopped by here after a long bike ride on the Chehalis Western trail. Outdoor seating so we could keep an eye on our bikes. Downtown Yelm. The cucumber margarita was fresh and cold with a punch. My wife had the spinach salad. Fantastic. Fresh ingredients. And a huge serving. I had the House burger. I love my burgers simple and big. This burger has just the right everything. And the fries. So we'll seasoned. The waitress was awesome. Great smile. Attentive. Friendly. Sweet. Thank you Clara!

My husband and I stopped in after running errands with our daughter and were instantly greeted upon arrival. The gal who was our waitress was so kind and friendly. She kept checking on us to ensure we were doing okay and had everything we needed. Food and drinks came out so so fast, did help there wasn't too many people there either. Salad was absolutely delicious and fresh; it came with strawberries and blueberries. My husband got a Bloody Mary and I got a glass of the Australian red wine I believe. While we were eating, our waitress informed us that the owner had paid for our drinks and congratulated us on our new baby. We felt so appreciated and thanked the owner for her generosity. Whenever we come here, we typically always have a positive experience. Sad we're moving out of Yelm but we will still probably make the trek out every once in a while to eat here.

Cozy atmosphere. There were 3 employees that night, the woman who initially waited on us actually appeared to roll her eyes when we ordered. She seemed pretty rushed and just didn't want to work that night or something. The bartender was friendly and came for our second round and he actually seemed more welcoming and friendly. The drinks menu is a bit small (compared to other nearby bars). We got 5 drinks, one espresso one which wasn't great and the rest were alright. Nothing that made us go "Oh man, try that!" but they weren't bad either. The food, looks better than normal bar food, which I loved. We ordered "Balls of Gibralter" - North African meatballs, which were *SO GOOD*, so delicious EXCEPT the texture. The flavors were all amazing, but it was as if there was too much egg and not enough breadcrumbs because it gave the impression of being wildly undercooked, even though you could see no pink. If they were firmer, they would've been perfect. They seem to have a rotating grilled cheese special I wouldn't mind checking out next time. The ambiance-lovely. I loved the lake, the water was beautiful and even though its only April, the day was warm and people we boating, fishing and walking around. Definitely had the summer vibe going. The parking is tough because its roadside, so very limited. We made our way down the stairs to the restaurant which is on the lake. We entered and waited to be seated. There was one person waiting ahead of us. There were 2 servers and a bartender (who I think was the manager as well but idk for sure). We stood there for a good 20 minutes until someone else even ACKNOWLEDGED our presence. We were discussing whether or not to stay when the server finally spoke to us. There were several tables empty, but dirty. They clearly needed a busser to help turn the tables over faster and maintain the cleanliness of the dining room. The server took our drink order and after about 20 more minutes, took our food order. I ordered the ribeye medium. We got our food at 755pm. One hour 15 minutes after we walked through the door. First of all, my steak was super fatty. More like the prime rib they were selling, but maybe put a piece on the grill and called it a ribeye. Secondly, it was raw. Not just pink, but raw. Disgusting. The potato that came with it had probably been sitting in a warming drawer for hours because it was all brown and gross. There was oily butter all over the plate. I chose green beans over salad and they served a small amount that were soggy and really greasy. The "dinner roll" was literally hard as a rock. The server became very interested in clearing the dirty tables and didn't check back with us until we were ready to go. At this point, I decided I wasn't eating the steak and just wanted a box. When she finally checked on us, she asked if I wanted my steak put back on the grill. No ma'am, its after 8. I just want to leave! She did deduct $6 from my bill because the dinner was so bad. Now I have had bad dinners from restaurants before, but this place charged me $33 (-$6) for this "meal". I expected a higher level of service, a cleaner restaurant and better food for the price they charged.

The bar setup looked fantastic, the drinks were perfectly made, and the whole experience felt seamless and stress-free for us as the couple. We loved that they provided glassware and even allowed for us to buy our own alcohol. Buying our alcohol was a must for us since we had a wedding of 230 people so we wanted to get it from a store that allowed us to return the extra bottles that were unopened. The option of making our own bar signs was a plus as well because I loved being able to DIY as much I was able to. They are also one of the only few bartending companies around that is more in the affordable range which was very much appreciated due to our guest count being on the higher side.
