Two vegetarian empanadas, salad, and drink for about $5. What a delicious bargain!

What a wonderful surprise to stumble upon 19/87 Empanadas while wandering through Colectivo 9. I kept coming back to watch the one lady roll out the fresh empanada dough with such skill and care that I knew I had to order something. As a vegetarian who speaks Spanish poorly, it's often difficult to communicate my dietary preferences in an effective manner. Not here, though, where the two workers spoke perfect English and were more than happy to assist me in choosing tasty vegetarian options. I was happy to discover that there were three veg options: one with rajas (peppers and cheese), another with mushrooms, and a third with sauce, cheese, and basil (like a margherita pizza). I opted for the first two and decided to make it a meal which included a salad and drink. It only cost about $5 USD. I grabbed a seat and was quickly served my food. It was a beautiful sight to behold: two crisp empanadas nestled next to a fresh salad of greens with dried cranberries, all served on a wooden board with three savory sauces. The meal also came with a refreshing agua fresca -- perfect considering it was very hot out and we had been boozing a bit. Everything was delicious, and those sauces were a perfect compliment to the pastries and made each bite unique. The empanadas were hands down the best I've ever had with the perfect amount of flavorful filling and a crisp-yet-chewy texture. The salad was good too and made the meal seem a little healthier. I highly recommend 19/87 Empanadas for my veggie friends and meat-eaters alike.

Can an empanada change your life? I would argue that it absolutely can. Well, my life was changed on a sunny, Saturday afternoon as I bit into the most delicious little thing I have ever tasted. The crust was light and flaky (not tough and waxy like most empanada dough can be) and the insides were perfectly proportioned. I went for the Argentina which has Chistorra (a chorizo-like sausage, for all those gringos like me who had no idea!), cheese and jalapeno medallions. It was outrageously good. If I hadn't already eaten a million tacos earlier, I would have had about a million and a half of these. No joke. The empanada came with 3 different sauces: a chimichurri, a cilantro green sauce and what tasted like a cheesy sauce. I piled all of the sauces on mine since they were all so darn good. Next time I'm in TJ, I'm saving more room for these bad boys. I'm going to order a bunch and keep some in my pocket for later. And everyone will think it's gross but then be super envious when I pull one out later. And I won't share.

Hands down the best empanadas I've ever had in my life!!! While strolling down Avenida Revolucion my husband and I stumbled across a tucked away area packed with people, the alluring smell of good food, and the vibes of live music. How could we resist going in?? Come to find out it was actually a small food court serving everything from tasty desserts and savory meals to fruity cocktails & beers. After walking past each restaurant scouring their menu offerings we decided on 19/87 empanadas & believe me they did not disappoint! We walked up to the counter & were warmly greeted by the employees ready to take our order. The menu is pretty simple with only a few options to choose from. It consists of about 8 empanada choices, a tasty fresh salad, 2 beverage options to quench your thirst, & 2 sweet empanada offerings to satisfy your sweet tooth. Once you place your order at the counter you find a table in the courtyard area and they bring your food to you once it's ready. I chose the combo 19/87 that came with any 2 empanadas (I decided on 2 clasicas), the house salad, and a beverage(85 pesos total). My husband chose 3 different empanadas, the clasica, terra, and the marinera(25 pesos each). Every single empanada we had was simply amazing and served with 3 dipping sauces. The melt in your mouth filling of each was well seasoned, made with fresh ingredients, and served piping hot. The crust was light and airy, very much like a puff pastry but better. The salad was the perfect mix of sweet and salty with the added cranberries and feta. I'm truly a fan of empanadas & have had plenty from different parts of the world but these have been my favorite so far. The very next time I'm in Tijuana I will definitely make 19/87 empanadas the first stop on the trip.

Super Delicious, I tried three empanadas: arrachera, beef and spinach/cheese. I will come back soon!

Have visited here multiple times and by far the best empanadas I've ever had. The dough is light and crispy like a wonton. The fillings are delicious and love their sauces. Personal favorites are the 1987, rajas, and Hawaiian. They are known for their marlin and sell out quickly. The apple one reminds me of McDonald's apple pie but even more delicious. Not a fan of the banana empanada but overall a flavor explosion with anything you order

Went here with my trusty food adventure friends on a Friday afternoon. It was probably 95 but felt like 98 in the back corner of the plaza where this place is located down an alley off Av. Revolucion We had the apple, mushroom and some sort of meat choice. Being so damned hot, I barely remember eating these. However they were prepared exquisitely and tasted the same. I want to go back and try this again maybe as a first stop so I can remember how good it is. The plaza itself is awesome, clean modern look with wood everywhere, vendors surround the outer edge of the plaza offering all sorts of tasty looking treats. Check out if you are in the area.

Mmmmmm!!!! Can't wait to go back!

Must try the empanadas here! Victor, the owner, hand makes the empanadas in front of you and they are absolutely delightful. I had the Marlin; mushroom and cheese; corn; classic with ground beef and marinara. The empanadas are light and flakey and the filling for each was so savory! This place is in a cool little court with other restaurants. Good for groups and date! Try this place out, you won't be disappointed!!

But today I happen to be in the area and I told my husband to try this place out. He was so happy! Once you place your order our waitress came with a big plate of sweet bread and you get to pick one! I picked the concha and my husband got the pineapple empanada! We ordered a bit of everything. My husbands go to meal always is chilaquiles. So he ordered the DIVORCIADOS $16.50 Half green and half red with carne asada and beans. We also got the CARNE EN SU JUGO $15.99 And I got the MENUDO ROJO $15.50 Let me start off by saying everything was amazing! It all tasted like it was homemade! Perfectly seasoned, with hand made tortillas. The carne en su jugo was really good! I understand why they are known for that dish. I loved my Menudo! I was craving it and it was perfect. The chilaquiles, the chips weren't soggy, they still had a bite to them. The sauces had so much flavor! My husband and I left with full bellies and a big smile on our faces! All the waitresses and waiters were so nice! Diego was telling us the story of the restaurant. Which was nice to hear. All family owned. Hopefully they open another restaurant closer to us!!! Fingers crossed! I will definitely come back to this restaurant and recommend it to all my family and friends!

I asked for a second cup, hoping it would be different, but it was just as sweet. The jamaica had very little flavor, and the mole chilaquiles were bland and lacked the rich flavor I was expecting. The only highlight of our visit was the waitress. She was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our meal. Sadly, the food was very disappointing, and I don't see myself coming back.

My youngest, who is the pickiest of eaters said that these were the best nuggets he's ever had which means a lot since he's eaten chicken strips all over the world. My daughter who loves Mexican food absolutely loved it at 14 years old just as much as when we'd bring her at 3 years old. The enchiladas are bomb, with either day sauce, the salsa and chips are on point, the drinks are bomb, and they even have excellent cheese cake. Then you walk it all off at the outlets. The servers are great, tons of TVs and even live music. Legit!!

We got some margaritas for the table and they were pretty inconsistent in flavor, strength, and sweetness levels. The lime ones were much better than the strawberry ones. Got to try a few dishes here and overall, everything was pretty average. The rice was pretty disappointing as well as it was bland and didn't taste fresh. y guy said the best things on the menu are the Lengua and the Tres Leches and I completely agree. Out of everything I got to try, the lengua was the best dish. The tres leches was phenomenal! I would come back here just for those and skip everything else.
