Now, we had just left a performance at the Patriots Theatre around the corner so this place was definitely on my list to check out. Just relocated to an area about 25 miles away from this restaurant. The reviews looked good so we gave it a shot. The good: the food was legit! I had the chicken and ribs combo with collard greens and potato salad and my lady had the brisket with yams and Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious but the brisket melted in your mouth and the yams and Mac and cheese were slamming! The bad: it took us nearly an hour to get our check so we could leave. Not sure if this was a "one off", but it was definitely over the top ridiculous. One person was taking care of everybody at the tables and bar. Great experience, I'm from Manhattan, met family from Philly and Orlando here, we eat out A LOT. So, we had high standards and this establishment was perfect. Fun vibe/staff, great food and cool venue in a little-baby city. City was definitely a bit quiet on a Saturday night but this place was a great place to meet. A server showed me the back patio and it looked really cool. The food was great value, everything was loaded and large portions. The sauces on the side made it a lot of fun to make each bite unique. They provided some of their BBQ sauces but we didn't even bother with all of the other sauces included with dishes. One in our party ordered wine and very generous pours. I was very impressed by this visit. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs w that came with 2 sides. I asked for baked beans and Mac and cheese. Delicious. I was very satisfied. I don't eat bbq sauce and I must say these ribs were so flavorful without it. The meal also came with a piece of cornbread on the side. I can tell you, I'm not an 100% cornbread fan. I will admit, this one was amazing. Soft, sweet, and cakey. I enjoyed. Someone went and picked up the order for me so I can't comment on what the place looked like. I met one of my friends at this bar and grill. It was black-owned, so I wanted to try it. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted, and we sat at the bar. Shawnn was our bartender, and she was very nice. I started with the long island iced tea, and I wasn't a fan of the first one. I sent it back and got another one which I liked. My friend got a cocktail, which she said was very sweet. For our meals, I got the quarter chicken with mac and cheese and string beans. My friend got the pulled pork with beans and macaroni and cheese. I liked the chicken with the sauces they gave but was not a fan of the mac and cheese and the string beans. This restaurant was by far the best experience I had in my week of staying in New Jersey. Not only was the food exceptional, but so was the service. Every item we ordered was delicious. The brisket was a little fatty, but still extremely flavorful. The ribs had the perfect crust on them and the wings were big with a generous seasoning of garlic parm on them. My guest really enjoyed her sandwich and the candied yams. She also ordered mad and cheese which was very tasty! We were given 3 different bottles of their BBQ sauce and they were all very good, my favorite was the Kansas City. The service was so great. Our waitress was very nice and kept checking on us. Additionally, someone who I think was the owner came over and greeted us, as well as clearing away some of our plates on his way out. Even upon walking in, many customers who looked like regulars greeted us, and one held the door for us on the way out. As we were about to leave, our waitress told us that every night the entire bar takes a shot at 1911, and poured us both a shot of complimentary Bacardi. Everyone in the restaurant cheersed and drank the shot, it was so nice! Prices were also very reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Called in a last minute to go order 15mins before they closed at 8pm during covid-19 8pm closing hours. They were nice enough to still take our orders. My turkey burger with everything on it was amazing and filled with flavor. I asked for you extra pickles on it they said they only had fried pickles(which I've never had), i said okay I'll take them anyway. Was a little confused as there were only 4 guests in there including us. I waived him down and reminded him and he forgot. No big deal. When bartenders make cocktails they have to use this contraction that measures out the liquor per ounce. For me personally it is one of the biggest turn offs but I don't hold it against the bartender. That has to be an owner thing. I get it's an accurate way of measuring but it just turns me off to no end. Anyway if the food was great I could look past it. But it wasn't. I have seen reviews on this place and tik toks and was so excited to try. Maybe they had an off day not sure. So we got the 444 sampler. We chose 4 honey I'm hot wings, 4 ribs and pulled pork. We also ordered Mac and cheese and potato salad. The wings were good really crispy - honey I'm hot sauce was kind of bland. The ribs were tough and kind of dry. They do have some homemade bbq sauces. All of which were similar in taste but I liked the KC one which is surprising bc I'm not too big on KC bbq in general. Pulled pork was moist and good but kind of average good. Mac and cheese was beyond dry. The potato salad was kind of one note and bland. Service was good. Gratuity was added to the check for a two top at the bar. This was weird to me. Had no issues with that but wasn't expecting it and it almost caused me to tip 40% which I caught last minute so I just brought the 15% automatically added and tipped and additional 5%. This place is suitable to get a round of drinks after work or to have dinner, I wouldn't come here for lunch in the middle of a work day though because of how long it takes the food to come out. We got a ribs platter, a pulled pork sandwich, and a half charred chicken. My work companion indicated the half charred chicken was "charred to perfection." We were presented with three different BBQ sauce options. I tried all three on my ribs. Each one was unique and all were delicious. Pulled pork sandwich was made by the sauce. Came with a side of mac and cheese which was also good. Ribs platter came with sides, baked beans, candied yams and cornbread. Baked beans were plentiful and tasty. Yams were sliced and cooked with cinnamon, probably brown sugar and butter. Cornbread was like a cornbread cupcake, sweet and moist. Ribs were not falling off the bone but were tasty with the sauce. Atmosphere was nice. It's not a big space but there weren't too many other people there, a couple of guys at the bar and another group of two or three in the dining area. Found this hole in the wall via Yelp and am so glad that I did! I hesitated going in as I was unsure if they were open on Monday at noon. Saw a UPS guy emerge so I went in and talked to the staff. They recommended their version of the chicken sandwich in the chicken sandwich wars and it was outstanding! I've had them all, Popeyes, Chic-fil-A, McDonald's, and even Colbie's Southern Kissed in Mount Holly. This version is the clear winner! It's slightly above Colbie's and way in front of any fast food option. I wish I had taken a photo before I bit in. Side note, I got the candied yams and they were outstanding as well!
