Always fun! The fish tacos made with salmon were wonderful. I've had the steamed and fried potstickers. Both were filled with tasty bits of pork or vegetables. Personally, I like them steamed the best, salads have been fresh and made with an interesting mix of greens, we tend to go early and then are amazed as the bar fills with folks of all ages. Went there for an early drink with my neighbors. I heard this was a nice place to hang...and it was. Very casual place with a bar one side and lounge with couch and tables on the other side. We ordered fried calamari and fish tacos. Both were very tasty. Generous glasses of decent wine, and the ginger margarita was really tasty. We had fun, playing "Jenga" with the Tito vodka blocks. The only downside was the waiter seemed overwhelmed with the place only moderately occupied. But, all the workers were nice. What is very cool are the lockers that can be rented to hold you own high end liquor, books, or other items for your social club meetings!! What a great night. Last night was the first time F and I tried Sushi Night with Chef Charlie Yeh. It happens on the first Wednesday of every month. We arrived early, 5:30pm, because this place fills up fast. Firstly, the service was wonderful. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and professional. 2 Porter's, one on draft, one from a can. Both good. The sushi menu isn't huge, but everything we ordered was fresh, tasty and full of fish goodness, no scrimping here. I ordered the spicy salmon and tuna roll. F ordered the sushi dinner. And we shared the Three Amigos. In addition to all of this, there was live music! Nothing intrusive, just a really nice duet of appropriate dinner songs. And if you live in Trenton, you will always meet the owner and someone you know from the nabe. A lovely evening all around. read more

We went here for a preshow drink and dinner. Pretty lively bar scene, good prices at happy hour. Apparently they're not used to having a crowded restaurant because there were only 1 1/2 servers in the packed dining room ( 1 was splitting time between dining room and bar) Service was a little slow as well as spotty. No worries, we had a 2 hour window before the show. Our orders came out mostly correct, a few mistakes on burgers. The food was solid bar fare, chicken wings were really good. I bought a groupon as soon as I started my job in Trenton about 2 years ago, and attempted to go twice, but once it was closed and another time it was shut down for a private event, so needless to say after much anticipation, I'm glad I made it here and that it was a great experience. I came on a Friday night, and there was an older gentleman playing really nice Jazz music and there was enough people in there where it wasn't crowded, but you it didn't feel dead. Ambiance: Hipster at the dining area and just regular happy hour by the bar. There are interesting art pieces all throughout the walls and a giant tree in the dining area giving it a great feel. The service is on the slow end at the dining area, especially for a place that didn't have many people there and for it being a Friday night. Food: Cheese steak egg rolls- I was way too excited about empanadas and tontitas, and sadly they were out so we settled on these, but they were great, definitely did not disappoint. But for $6, I wanted them to be thicker. They were more like the size of small spring rolls, and only brought 2. I think for the price you can throw another baby egg roll in there, appreciate it! I ordered the Blacked Salmon ($14) which was served with sauteed zucchini and squash and I got the pasta side. The Salmon was not over seasoned, and was nice and moist. The pasta had a great white cream sauce that was amazing. I'm glad my hubby go the pasta dish because I couldn't stop eating the pasta! My beau got the Zen Chicken ($14) which came with bacon, mushrooms, peas and served on pasta. I thought this was the better dish of the two, mainly because I was obsessed with a light white wine cream sauce. Both dishes were decent sized portions, and we were really happy with how both came out, which rarely EVER happens. We had 2 drinks each after and left in a great mood that we finally ventured off to this part of town. I wish there were more places this chill in the Trenton area, sadly they are a rare breed. I was kind of torn when getting ready to write this review. On one hand, the atmosphere at Trenton Social was upbeat & fun; in fact we were there because one of our friends was having her art exhibition. So for ambience I'd give a solid 4 stars, maybe even 4.5. The energy aspect was great: the art, music, and I'm always so happy to see cool events happening in Trenton; however the food? Ehhh My son ordered the burger, which he said was good but he's 11 so take that review with a grain of salt. I ordered the fish tacos and they were maybe the WORST fish tacos I've ever had. First of all it was pretty difficult even finding the fish within the tacos. What I did find was a ton of both sautéed and raw onions. I was really annoyed about that because I didn't read in the menu that there were going to be raw onions in the tacos. The sautéed onions were mentioned in the menu description, but not the raw onions and damn, it was like onion overload and no fish to be found. And the fish itself tasted super gross. They said it was "local" fish and man, after tasting it, I started getting nervous as to its "local" origins Would I go back? Totally for the music and art! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ARTISTS! Visited recently when looking for a restaurant near our sons function. Selected Trenton Social based on Yelp reviews. They were pretty accurate. Located across from the Cure Insurance Arena, there were no events this night so the place was empty. Parking easy and there is a private lot in the rear. We were the only diners close to 9 and there was no hostess. Staff was really nice. Furniture was old, seating torn and the interior had a college dive bar feeling. Ordered the steamed dumplings and cheese steak rolls for apps. Both were good and came out fast. DW had the gala salad that was small but fresh and tasted well. I had ravioli in a cream sauce. Not exceptional but tastes good. If coming to the Cure Arena this is a good stop. For a night out I'd probably pass. Waiter was super nice and responsive. read more

My Trenton Social Review. *LONG POST ALERT* Ericka McClain Murray Tinika NJ As a Trentonian that enjoys going to Trenton Social sometimes, I can say that the experience that i had there this evening was THE WORST EXPERIENCE I've ever had to deal with in a restaraunt. Not due to the actual restaurant, but due to the customer service that was truly non - existent today. Myself and two of my friends/coworkers went out for drinks after a long day of work to try and relieve some stress and enjoy a good meal. When we arrived the doors were still locked bc it didnt open until 5. We waited patiently until 5 o'clock, . It still had not opened at 5:05 pm. Being the understanding people that we are we didn't make a big fuss about it because we understand that things happen. When the bartender finally opened the doors he did not acknowledge or greet us once. It was as if as if we were invisible. Then two white gentlemen walked in and the bartender immediately greeted them and made conversation and asked what they would like. Then the two gentlemen proceeded to say to the bartender that we were there first and that he should take care of us first. Even after the gentlemen told him to take care of us he brought out their bottle that they ordered and had yet to even acknowledge us. Once he brought out their bottle he then started to complain with so much profanity it made my head spin. I couldn't believe the things were coming out of his mouth, and in front of customers. At this point my friends and I were extremely dissatisfied with the "service" we were supposed to be receiving. So my friends and I got up and proceeded to walk out and one of my girlfriends' responded to his statement with, "I don't want to "f" up your day as u say other people have been doing, so we'll leave." It was at this point where the bartender that I may add is a white man began to aggressively and boisterously curse us out, calling us out of our name and dropping the f bomb over and over screaming and pointing at us to leave. At this point I felt very threatened and afraid that this man would be speaking and acting like this towards women. The two gentlemen that were there as well even told him to relax and stop his behavior. Even when we were walking out he continued to yell and scream vulgarities at us from the back of the restaraunt. I went there a couple of weeks ago with a friend of mine who was a proud Hillary supporter and very "flamboyant". Needless to say, they were very rude to him and gave him the cold shoulder. ZERO STARS! Avoid this place, unless you agree with how they treat people of color. Friends went to visit yesterday afternoon. They had just opened, and two other gentlemen followed behind them. They were served first, whatever. However, they were ignored for a good half hour and couldn't even get a drink. The bartender became belligerent against then and kicked them out for no reason. The reason was more than likely because they didn't like being ignored, spoke up, and were kicked out for being black. This establishment needs to do a better job into who they hire or make a manager. They were threatened by the bartender to get out. Again no reason at all. We needed a place to have lunch before an event at the Sun Center. My husband found a restaurant a few blocks away so off we went. He checked his directions with a cop who was struck with fear for our safety. The cop and his partner told us that it is not safe to walk in Trenton. If we wanted a good place with good food go to The Social, at the end of the block from the arena. Who are we to argue. The cops recommendation was spot on. The drinks were fairly priced and the beer selection on draft included a few local taps. The food was great and so was the service. This is the place to go if you have an event at the arena. No doubt the Trenton Pork Roll Festival could have been something special given the concept and all the vendors and bands that showed up. However, the word is that 2,000 people invited themselves for a 300 person party, and the logistics were just not capable of handling the scene. Too, a massive thunderstorm in mid afternoon blew out the electricity, shutting down the bands, and dousing everyone and their pork roll sandwiches. The canopies were not able to control the deluge. I was there for a few minutes in early evening after the last of the heavy downpour, but not post the straggling showers that seemed to hang over Trenton Social all day. After standing in line and getting soaked, I decided discretion was the better part of valor, and beat a retreat to find a dry place for dinner. Please try again next year, fellas. How this place has so many 4 and 5 star reviews is truly baffling to me. The overall experience was mediocre at best. The ambiance itself seems a bit confused. I saw the feel they were going for but it missed the mark. The tacky neon lighting behind the bar mixed with the hipster decor and salsa music blaring in the background was not a good combination. No one was dancing for "salsa Sunday" yet the music was so loud it was almost to the point where you couldn't have a conversation. We opted to sit at the bar since the music deterred us from the dining room. Service was slow even though there were roughly 2 other customers besides us seated there. The selection on tap was disappointing. Bottled selection moderately better. We got the calamari to start which had a wasabi lime dipping sauce. Pretty good. I had the burger for my dinner and I have to say it was just meh as were the Parmesan fries. I didn't taste much Parmesan at all. My fiancé and his friend got the filet sandwich which were both overcooked. I don't know, I'm assuming that the rave reviews are due to the fact that it's a decent looking place in the middle of Trenton, which in and of itself is not known for remotely being a foodie paradise. But for me this place is not somewhere I'll come back to. UPDATE: Just a few short hours after posting this review, my stomach was not in a good place. My fiancé said his was also upset. He finished my burger, so I'm assuming that's what did it. I was up most of the night with cold sweats and other displeasures which I will spare you the details of. Worst service ever. Standing at the bar for 30 minutes and never was waited on. Slightly busy (I might have understood) but when people who already had a drink and is served again (sitting right beside me) it is ridiculous. We knew that the Trenton Social has been around for awhile, our loss. We just rediscovered this amazing restaurant in Trenton. The food is truly amazing and the service is the same. The DJ plays on Thursday nights and we love the loud beats that permeates throughout the restaurant, it will make you dance in your seat. There's free parking behind the restaurant, but I'm not giving 4 stars because it's very confusing on how to get into the restaurant if you don't enter from the street. I wanted to like this place, I really did. Had a reservation for 4 for a Saturday night. Walk in and the restaurant section is practically empty. Wait almost 10 minutes to be seated. There were bartenders and an owner walking around and past us many times. I asked twice to be seated and was told "she was on her way" We are seated, order drinks and appetizers which both come out promptly. Appetizers were above average and reasonably priced. If I ever return, it will be for the food only. Unfortunately the service and experience was horrible. For the first 45 minutes, a band "warmed up" by playing a few chords here and there, tapping on the drum, etc. They sounded like they might be good, but they were just fooling around/warming up. It was annoying. They had their gear strewn about on tables, the floor, etc. It was very unprofessional. The singer even joked that he was going to ruin our romantic evening. Well buddy, the 45 minute sound check "mic check check one, check check two" ruined the experience, so you achieved your goal. Suddenly the room fills with over 30 people there for a fundraising event. Mind you, we had a reservation and no private event was mentioned and nothing was on their website indicating an event. Our nice dinner was interrupted by people in 80's costumes who were obviously all friends with each other and the band. It made us quite uncomfortable. It was as if everyone there knew each other. At one point, our table was only occupied by my husband and I (the other couple went to the bar to get a drink since the waitress was MIA) and other people came and sat at our table as if we were with the group. Was I at a private party and no one told me? We stayed there for 1 hr and 45 minutes and we only saw our waitress once. We only waited around that long because we were waiting for a show nearby and there were no other options in this neighborhood. I went to Trenton Social last night to attend an open mic. Since I was there anyway, I figured that I might do a few minutes of stand-up, even though everyone else performing was a musician. I was planning on doing a set about the tedium of commuting, but as the night grew longer and I continued to be reminded of much I hate Trenton, I decided that I would just go up onstage and talk smack about the capital of New Jersey for however long time and the patience of the host would permit. Turns out, it was only about five minutes max. I started off by commenting on the historical significance of Trenton, and how George Washington crossed the Delaware River on the night of Christmas with his ragtag army to slaughter the Hessian forces sleeping peacefully in their quarters, probably after a night of religious observance and celebration. Heroic? Or cowardly? I suggested cowardly. Everything kind of just went downhill from there. While I was on the mic, I even made reference to the review that I'm writing now. I said I would give this place either three or four stars. Now, apparently the owner was standing there listening to me the entire time. I think that was his opportunity to secure a four or even five-star review from me; he could have offered me a free drink, an appetizer, a discount, etc. But no. When will business owners learn to bribe me? I am a pretty righteous person, but come on -- it's like they're not even putting any effort in to corrupt me. Anyway, I like this place. My friends and I had a great time at this bar. We stopped here Saturday after the Punk Rock flea market down the street. I had the turkey sandwich with Parmesan fries, it was pretty good. Great beer selection. The male bartender, whose name I've forgotten, was really fun and attentive and even mixed a delicious nonalcoholic beverage for our pregnant friend. They also have a nice lounge area and a beautiful outdoor patio, though it was a bit cold last weekend for us to enjoy it. I stopped in for lunch on a friends recommendation. It was my first visit to Trenton Social. I'm a single lady and while I don't drink liquor I tire of dining alone so opted to eat at the bar. I happen to enjoy meeting new people and sampling creative cuisine. I found it to be a very friendly, warm and welcoming sort of place. It was a small but very diverse crowd with an upbeat vibe. I had the chicken curry sandwich and salad and a glass of lemon aid. Totally enjoyed the meal and the conversation! I plan to visit again soon preferably on an evening when there is live music. Its a breath of fresh air in trenton. It has a weird social vibe- from socialites, to hipsters, to gangster wannabes, students and other strange people-- which i personally enjoyed. It also seemed like this place gets a lot of regulars. The inside ( when i was there) had a strange valentines day theme ( or decorations they forgot to take down). The room in the front is the main bar with a few tall tables and chairs surrounding it. The bartender seemed to cater to the people sitting at the bar while our server took care of us . The back was a wanna-be club- but the dj was playing techno that no one was drunk enough to dance to. I enjoyed the music. It had a large projector which at one point was playing softcore porn lol. The 'dance floor' also had tables and chairs, so we spent most of our time, drinking, talking and watching the 3 people who were dancing. Drinks seemed kinda expensive, but not horrible. I think i had 3 drinks + 1 appy for about 40$. Speaking of appetizers- not good. Our mac n cheese balls were kinda gross. But it is walking distance from a nice pizza shop that was open late night. This place is a nice establishment if your looking for a place that you just want to unwind before you go home. Especially since it's near the Captial complex government area. But I rather unwind at chucky cheese for how poor the service is. The bartenders can not multitask and acknowledge you when your standing next to the person they are taking an order from. If want a menu good luck they don't even give you one or ask if your ordering food. They profile you by color and sex, I've witness how they approach customers based on what they look like. If you look like a hobo but your complexion fits their likes your more likely to get served before a well dressed person of color. The wait staff is rude no proper skills in serving. The food is ok for an area lacking the cuisine that Mostly has pizza and Chinese. The car that went through their establishment is karma! The bartender with the beard and the dark hair is one of the rudest bartenders I have ever encountered! He always has an attitude, makes pissy comments to customers and put my food and drinks on my sister's tab because we had the same last name "and he couldn't tell which one was which in the system!" So you're telling me if two people with the same last name come into this establishment and start a tab you have absolutely no way of distinguishing them nj the computer system? Complete bs. I'm sure people complain about him, and yet he keeps his job. Perhaps he's better suited for another position in the restaurant? I spent two years in Trenton for work and absolutely fell in love with this place. Now that I am working in Las Vegas, I miss it now more than ever. The bartenders, especially Peter and Andrew, are two of the nicest guys I have ever met, and the servers are professional, attentive, and they genuinely care about their customers. Trenton is very lucky to have this establishment, and as a person who travels coast-to-coast for work, I can say that this is an uncommon place, everything a local pub should be. Great job, all! I can't wait to get back to Trenton to say hello to my New Jersey friends. You truly made me feel at home--so far away from home. read more
