This is the place you want to visit if you are boating on lake Wissota. Nice outdoors patio with view of the docks. You can get drinks and food to go or enjoy the air conditioned bar a bar and dining room. This is a fairly new incarnation of this restaurant. Previously The Edge, now under new ownership. We sat outside and tried the thin crust pizza. Kinda average and the crust wants very thin. Drinks were nice and cold. They even have to go drinks so you can take them on the boat. Under New Ownership and just reopened today! We went today on opening night, so I expected some delays. However, the delays weren't even the beginning of the issues. We had to ask four times for napkins and they brought me out the wrong dish. The food was bland at best. I recommend avoiding the greasy truffle fries and the nasty bison dogs for sure. The $24 roast was so bland that salt didn't help it and we waited forever for refills. The worst part of the night was talking to the manager, a giant Karen with an attitude and huge boots. The manager came over with a giant attitude, acting like we were nuts to not like the food. We saw two other tables complain about their menu as well! If you can't handle criticism, then you're probably in the wrong business! I would not bring my dog to eat at 1917. Too bad! The atmosphere is stunning, but the food and staff stink! Update! Atmosphere was inviting and overlooked the marina area. The food was good not great for the price. We had a French dip, which good, but had a lot of flavors fighting each other with sauces and onions and almost made it difficult to savor any one flavor. The Parmesan truffle fries were tasty, but nothing spectacular. The house-made kettle chips were the one thing that really stood out! The wait staff wasn't very well versed on the menu and that made ordering a touch more difficult. They sent out a regular crust flatbread when qe had ordered the cauliflower gluten free crust, not the end of the world but those good ups dimmed our view of this restaurant. In the end it was good food but overpriced for the quality. read more

Came in on a rainy night when camping. Was seated right away by very friendly staff. Asked to switch to a window seat and they were very accommodating. Only complaint is I wish the lobster roll could be served warm. But that's on me read more

Stopped in for lunch today. Starting with the drink menu, there wasn't one speciality drink that sounded good. They don't make spicy margaritas??? The margaritas we got were ok tasted more orange juice than lime. Wine list was a bit confusing but waitress explained you can order three different size pours. I did like that option. Moving on to the lunch menu. Very different menu. I ordered a wedge salad. The lettuce was crisp and fresh with assorted cherry tomatoes. The blue cheese dressing tasted homemade. What it lacked was bacon and crunch, very little bacon; maybe a half piece. My husband chose the haddock tacos and they lacked flavor and the flour tortilla needed to be toasted in a pan the shells were mushy. The salad was priced average, the tacos were 18$ for three tacos!!!! Our waitress did a great job, considering she had a table outside. If they are really busy that is going to be a disaster. I don't know how a waitress can manage tables so far apart. read more

I've visited 1917 for lunch and dinner in the past week. Renovation is impressive. Service is 'pretty good', but not polished. My guess is that the owners will need to adjust their menu in order to survive. Their idea of an 'upscale' river venue seems odd for this tavern on a river, with docks. The venue is excellent, execution is out of line with the clientele. The dining room was empty on both of my visits--no diners=no money. Food--not right for this venue---and, some items are way over priced, For lunch, the 'Chicken Pecan Salad' had NO pecans. I didn't say anything, thinking that I may have ordered a different salad by mistake. For a tavern, $16.00 is on the high side. Dinner is even more out of line. My $18 flatbread should have been no more than $10-$12.---and, I think that it was frozen, not prepared from scratch. My guests ordered the dinner Rib eye steak---they said that it was 'very good', but, it was served in a bowl?? Why not a nice plate? Price of the Rib Eye steak was 'fair'---where can you get a decent steak for under $50! In summery: 1917 has done a great job of updating the building/dock. Their staff is learning, and will get more personable with experience. Food is tasty--but, I question how many items are pre-prepared/frozen. Menu choices are the major problem--1917 is trying to be TOO upscale for the neighborhood. I hope that the owners will adjust their food menu to attract locals. read more

Been here twice for boat up, both food and gas dock. First time was very early after opening, second time more recently. They have come along quite well on food timing, prep, quality and quantity. On recent visit, one of us got the Walleye and wild rice dinner, and was the best plate we've had for that in any local restaurant or club so far. Yes, really. Also, the corn chowder was inspired - nice touch. Good wine list. Very good selection. Wait staff seem plentiful and also getting through some shake down learnings over the course of two months. Very pleasant, respond to questions, maybe get distracted a bit during heavy times, but we allow some grace here. Menu is great, and it's nice to have chef-forward food in the area, with so many burger/pizza/fried fish joints on every street corner. That said, we agree the walk up bar could use a few more simple, less pricey options for mass appeal. Dock hands were quite helpful getting us into port and gassing when the convenient access to fill cap was difficult. So glad you've brought new life! read more

Love it! we have been there several times. We typically sit in the bar area, but we have also sat outside on the deck. Love the new menu. I've made myself order a different menu item each time so that I don't do my usual and get stuck on one item and so far I have loved everything I have had.. The service is always good whether a bar or at a table. The are amazing. Best on the lake. I am so happy finally I'm the big lake. The new owners have made some very nice changes. We have eaten here 4-5 times, the menu has something for everyone. Ambiance also has something for everyone, from fine dining, bar, and two patios to bring the outside dining experience you seek looking at the beautiful Chippewa River. Driving or boating up, it's a very welcoming team that will greet you and serve you. Looking forward to a more visits with our out of town friends. read more

We are staying at Lake Wissota State Park. We have had lunch in the past with the previous owners. It was ok. When we saw that 1917 Lake Wissota had new owners, who did lots of work on the establishment and elevated the menu we were excited to go for dinner. We were able to make reservations for 6:30. When we arrived and were seated it was so loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation. We couldn't even hear our waitress. We ordered onion rings. They were good. My husband ordered the trout. Later to learn they were out. He ordered the walleye that came with wild rice. When it arrived half his plate was empty with a walleye filet over a small scoop of wild rice that you couldn't even see. It came with a tomato salsa, which was cherry tomatoes and green onions. The walleye was riddled with bones. I ordered the French dip with a salad. The salad was too much spring mix. The sandwich had a nice baguette, but the meat was very dry, tasteless and grainy. I couldn't eat it. My husband ate the other half (because he was still hungry). He agreed that the sandwich was poor. When the waitress returned with our change, it was wrong. I've gone to 1917 Lake Wissota with a group of people a few times and every time we've gone there the service was great and the food was excellent. It is now one of our favorite restaurants to go to. I recommend you give it a try. read more

Don't waste your time , horrible service and will never go back. Waited for drinks for over 25 minutes and we're told ou t drinks were taken. Server seemed overwhelmed and confused and just had a odd demeanor. Menu is overpriced and upscaled to appeal to the hoyty toyty. They have a really bad menu for the location. Too many high end entrees for a boat up location.Loopy tried that at the high shores and it went down in flames. They need a casual menu with a lot of offerings like the Edge had, then have the higher end food in the main dining. I heard the new manager is failing and not so popular with staff. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant in a beautiful location while on our vacation. We called ahead and felt good about this choice. Our party included two adults and two children. When we arrived we asked for children's menus. These were never delivered. We walked to the hostess stand twice more to ask for these and they were never provided. One of them eventually brought us a hand written list. Meanwhile, when seated we each ordered a drink. 30 minutes later our children still hadn't received their drinks and our sever, Samantha, had never circled back to check in, or even offer us new drinks (we never were offered a second drink). Our waitress did not understand the menu whatsoever. Our food was delivered by someone else and Samantha never checked in on us until the very end. Our son was served a tiny cup of kraft Mac and cheese and we saw that all the other children at the restaurant were served proper plates with fries. When we asked her about this she unapologetically said that this was an error, but because she never checked back, it was what it was. We enjoyed the French dip, wedge salad and fish tacos very much. Pricing is very fair. However, the service has much room for improvement and has deterred us from a return visit or a positive recommendation. I'd consider eating by elsewhere. read more
