This is our first time here. We (wife and I) ordered: Leinenkugal Orange Shandy, Choc oatmeal stout: wedge salad, lobster bisque, 14oz ribeye , and truffle fries. We shared the steak. The food was OUTSTANDING and was more than enough. Hands down, this meal was superb. The steak was order medium rare and it did not disappoint. First time here. We were up from Milwaukee for a family birthday. Normally, we would go to a steakhouse in Eau Claire, but with a recent move to Chippewa Falls, we wanted to try something closer. The Chophouse had good reviews, so we gave it a try. (Spoiler -- it was a delightful meal!) The Wissota Chophouse is inside the Cobblestone Hotel. It has a separate entrance that leads right into the dining room. It's not a very big space, but the table arrangements are comfortable, with different-sized tables to accommodate larger groups. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated right away. Menus and waters came quickly, and our server checked in with us immediately. In addition to taking our drink order (Huckleberry Old Fashioned for me), our server did a nice job of explaining the menu items. He was also candid about the dishes he didn't think were the "best" choices. I really appreciate it when a server feels connected to the customers and confident enough in their own palate to share honest opinions. We ordered the calamari appetizer. Our server wasn't crazy about that choice, but we went ahead anyway. It was "okay." It's sautéed rather than fried, so you have to set your expectations accordingly. It was hot, flavorful, and a good portion. However, like a lot of sautéed calamari, the rings were overly chewy :( They also provide a complimentary bread service (French?), which was fresh and warm, served with butter and a couple of different salts. That was unique and very good. Our entrées included Ribeye, Chicken Ballotine, Carbonara, and Sea Bass (for me). These items are à la carte, so we also ordered sides of Brussels Sprouts and Mac & Cheese. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and everything was served at the right temperature. The Ribeye was excellent, and big enough to share. The Chicken Ballotine was tender and flavorful. My Sea Bass was amazing, though the portion was a bit small. Both sides were very good, especially the Brussels Sprouts, which had just the right amount of crisp. We saved room for dessert and shared two -- the Chocolate Cake and the Raspberry Tiramisu. Both were excellent. Overall, the evening was a big success. I really appreciated our server's help and attention throughout the night (thanks, Bruce). The food was wonderful (with one exception). The atmosphere was upscale but casual. It's not a cheap dinner, but for what you get, I feel it's a good value. Overall, a memorable evening -- I'd gladly return. read more

My boyfriend and I came in for Valentine's Day, and thankfully got a last minute reservation. Unfortunately, when we arrived, it took almost 10 minutes for the hostess to barely acknowledge us, due to a "layout issue." (A couple wanted a different table and the entire floor plan was deleted after trying to move them.) After being seated, we were welcomed by our server who was very polite, ordered a "huckleberry old fashioned" which was very tasty. I know this sounds okay so far... but when we ordered the SPECIAL- lamb chops for two with a red wine sauce, carrots, sweet potatoes, and an additional side of asparagus... the asparagus was the only nearly-warm item we received. The food flavors were great, but the lamb chops, although we knew would be on the bone, were very fatty and untrimmed, especially for being over $100 for the plate(s). Between that and the fact that they were covered in the red wine sauce, made it very difficult to cut them apart without massacring them. We were staying at the Cobblestone hotel and had a recommendation to try this place so we did. We were warned service might be a little slow because there was a table with over 20 people who got their order in ahead of us. We decided sitting outside would be good since the weather was perfect. Our service was excellent. We were seated by someone training to open her own Chophouse in another location and she was super friendly and had great information. Our water glasses never got lower than 1/2. They were out of our first choice appetizer but we had a second in mind. We ordered the crab cakes which were delicious especially with the corn relish that came with it. We split the 9 oz steak which was cut very thick and couldn't be cooked to our usual medium well but was really good. The shrimp was well cooked and the sauce was very tasty. The Brussel sprouts were very well cooked with a nice crispy exterior and tender center. The asparagus was good. It is pricy and sides are separate. I booked the small back room for an intimate party of less than 20 people. The person I was in contact with was super helpful and friendly. She was attentive and allowed for decorations. They serve beer flights here too so that's always fun, but we did not end up doing flights for our group. For fine dining, the experience was there but the taste of food was not. Food is definitely overpriced and as several of the reviews on here, the entire menu is a la carte. This means, no sides are served if you order a steak or pork chop. Meat is over done and too chewy. Everything needs to be ordered individually. I've been here a few times and wanted to give it many shots before I actually gave it a review. For the lack of fine dining there is in the area, there are better options I would opt for. One thing I would like to mention... a few summers ago, they had a brunch menu which was great but discontinued it. Which is a bummer because the food and the lattes were great!! This was my 2nd time eating dinner at the Wissota Chophouse. My first was at the Neenah location last summer and then 2 nights ago in Chippewa Falls. My son and I ate here for a pre-college graduation dinner and didn't spare any expense. He are are our thoughts on the meal. Appetizers: We ordered stuffed fried olives and 6 oysters. The olives were very tasty and the oysters just so-so. Soup & Salad: I had a blue cheese wedge salad which was very good and both of us had the lobster bisque. While tasty, there was virtually no evidence of lobster in the bisque. Main course and sides: I had the surf and turf (5 oz. Filet with 3 prawns - $50) and I would rate this average at best. Steak was ordered MR+ and was not cooked evenly on each side. Very little flavor or seasoning but the meat was very tender. Shrimp were ok but as prepared nothing I would order again. My son went all out and ordered the 85 day aged ribeye with mushroom medley ($107) and a side of truffle mac and cheese. The ribeye was ordered MR+ and arrived very fatty (somewhat to be expected with a ribeye) but also not well prepared. Temperature was not good and for the price there was nothing special about it. It was average at best and left my son wishing he would've ordered a 10 oz. fillet or NY strip for 1/2 the cost. The truffle mac and cheese was very tasty. Service: Nothing negative here, our server was fantastic and very attentive. At times we had 2 different servers checking in on us to be sure we had what we needed. Overall: With 1 old fashioned, 1 soda and 20% tip we were pushing $275 for dinner. When looking at the cost vs. meal provided I would struggle justifying coming again. read more

Phenomenal food and service. The portions were huge. We shared the Soft Pretzel appetizer, with beer cheese dip. It was bigger than a dinner plate and oh so good. Be sure you skip the bread and butter to save some room for this. My husband and I ended up taking almost half home so this would be good for up to 4 people. I had the Espresso Rubbed Strip with squash risotto and stout demi. I've never had a better steak. I ordered it medium and I would say it was cooked a bit more on the medium well side, which was perfect for me. The glaze was sweet and complimented the espresso perfectly. My husband had the Wissota burger and loved it! The bacon was crumbled instead of strips which was a nice touch. The truffle fries were delish. We also shared the chive whipped potatoes. So yummy. At this point we were both getting full from our other food but still found some room for these. They are baked so there's a nice browned top to them. For a treat this is a great place to eat. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is excellent. The food is amazing. The calamari is not breaded and fried so for someone avoiding sugar and flour it fits in my eating plan. It was expertly cooked. My wife had the tenderloin and it was so tender it could be cut with a table knife. I had the Cajun Walleye with risotto and it was worth the extra long wait we had between our appetizers and main course. My wife had to have a little chocolate so she ordered the chocolate cake. Let me tell you that it is big enough to share with 4. It was super moist also. The only complaint would be we had a high number of flies being next to the window. What a treat. We went to the website and did an honest appraisal of the various reviews before making a decision on our meal plans. Only negatives were prices and steak dryness. No biggie so we decided to venture out. Wow! Like being in downtown Chicago. Absolute quality. My wife had the six ounce steak rare. Side of Bernaise. I had the chicken Marsala. We shared the asparagus. We started off with two superb wines and the oyster Rockefeller. All I can say is we are coming back. What a gem to have this quality in Chippewa falls. My boyfriend and I had a day trip to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, so we decided to treat ourselves to a nice steak dinner - unfortunately, the only good thing I can say about this spot was the wait staff was very friendly. Otherwise, the food was a big disappoint in terms of both flavor and price. The 24 oz T-bone we got to share with a Peppercorn Crust for $4 more barely had more than a few cracks of pepper. That aside, the steak was still really unflavorful. The bread we got as an appetizer was underwhelming as well, but at least it was free. The risotto was a nice side, but it would've been better if it was a smaller portion and cheaper so we could've tried more than one shareable side dish. We had one drink each and the bill came out to be ~$120 - I really hate to say this, but I think we both would've been more satisfied with Culvers. Unless you have a corporate expense account be prepared to spend a lot of money for your meal. Everything, and I mean everything, is a la carte. I'm a resident of Chippewa Falls and fine, creative dining is a rarety here. Our server greeted us and seated us promptly on a Thursday night. Two other tables were occupied. The decor is post industrial. Our server, who was polite, began to explain how we should create our meal, choosing our "proteins". Her presentation wasn't condescending, but telling me how I should navigate the menu "experience" is odd. I am literate, have ordered off hundreds of menus before. What I would have liked is, "If you like bisque, I love our Lobster Bisque. The filet is a good portion for two, etc". Another approach might have been, "If you are a vegetarian, let me give you some suggestions." It was an unusual way to approach dining patrons. I ordered the lobster bisque (not based on the above imagined scenario). Really tasty and a good portion, not a small cup. The flavor was perfect but I wish the soup was hotter. I remember dining out with my grandmother. She would be sending back the soup back if it wasn't screaming hot. Now I understand. I ordered crab cakes. Two 3" diameter cakes with a piquant corn relish. They stretched out the mix by adding a lot of bread crumbs so the texture was pasty. Flavor was good, but add a whole lot more crab. That was my meal - soup and crab cakes. My dining companion ordered the sea bass. I had a small taste and it was moist, but swimming in butter. She also had a Caprese salad which was flavorful, but I think of that salad as a very seasonal dish when tomatoes are at the peak of flavor. We shared a side of brussel sprouts. Perfectly cooked with a crusting of parmesan. Those were nice. If you veer towards beef you will be paying dearly. Plus every sauce, should you choose to order one, is an extra $5. I would embed the cost of a sauce into the cost of the meat. Limit the number of sauces on the menu. The check came to more than $100 and we didn't have drinks or dessert. Wow. I was in the area for a weekend getaway. Flying solo I'm often looked at oddly, but Wissota Chophouse did not make me feel odd. It came as a recommendation from the bed and breakfast I stayed at, and it didn't disappoint!!! I ordered the lobster bisque to start and it was very tasty. For my entree I ordered the petite filet. My only regret is not ordering the 10 oz. I almost didn't need a knife to cut it. Normally I would say it was over done to my liking (med rare), but it didn't matter because it was still melt in my mouth delicious! I also got it Oscar style which was incredible.
