My girlfriend and I have been here a few times now and the food and service have always been amazing. I am so happy this spot has opened. Came here twice now and I am satisfied. The bakery is very spacious and clean. There are a lot of tables for studying and the vibe here is very chill. I have gotten matcha scone, Ube scone, and matcha chocolate muffin, which are all well done. They don't over sugar their pastry and everything tastes very freshly done with fluffiness. I tried their most recent raspberry and chocolate croissant and it is very good I have also tried their breakfast sandwich and omgggggggggggg. It is one of my fav in Tucson. As you can see in my picture, it is big and will def fill you up. The egg is made well and creamy texture. The whole sandwich tastes very fresh without any chemicals, which is why I gave this spot a 5 star. I value freshness without much additives and preservatives and I feel this bakery made everything fresh and yummy. I tried their strawberry matcha and latte. Both taste very good. I had dinner here with a friend recently. I got a sausage and egg sandwich ($10) from the breakfast menu. My friend got a roast beef sandwich. We cut them in half, so I had half of each one. Both were good, especially the sausage and egg. We also split two desserts, which were even better (one was a slice of flavored cheesecake, the other a small tart [$6.75].) And I had a large iced decaf latte ($7.50), also good. It's a counter-service place. The service was friendly and competent. There is local art on the walls. It is spacious, with nice new tables and chairs. The menu is quite limited, but the person working there said that it would soon be expanded. read more

Went there in the evening to get some pastries for a late evening sugar craving. The space is larger than it looks from the outside with ample seating. It was bright and had fun pop of pink seats. Service was welcoming and friendly. The pastries were okay but a bit drier than expected ( they mentioned several times that everything is baked freshly daily). I love me a kouign-amann... especially the sugar in the middle of a caramelized crust... but this was not it. Barely had the buttery caramelized crust and I could barely taste any sugar folded it. The cruffin was okay but a bit on the dry end. The coffee cake was good and I particularly liked the frosting. They do make in- house syrups and the vanilla latte I got was decent. Parking can be challenging as there are limited street parking spots and if available, you do pay... but luckily Tucson's parking rates are very reasonable. read more

It is unassuming to the untrained eye! ;) my first instinct is to always check the menu online and they had that setup with current pricing but no pictures. NO PROBLEM. The menu and items sounded delicious + I was sold on the AWARD WINNING COOKIES part. We were looking for mainly breakfast but upon arrival to the counter I was told they serve the lunch items as well! The young man at the counter I believe his name is Brevan (or Brendan I may have gotten that wrong please forgive me) very sweet soul recommended the cinnamon roll which we'll have to come back and try sometime. We ordered the fluffy pancakes (3 to the stack comes with berry medley compost, YUMM) breakfast sandwhich (what McDonald's THINK they taste/look like!) and the triple chocolate cookie (per the young mans recommendation) WOW. The cookies are made with different chocolates one of them being LAYERED underneath sed cookie.... It's beautiful Belgian chocolately goodness!! I am so very delighted to have stopped here on a whim, the best places tend to come from me just deciding to go for it. This is a small shop with different lattes and drinks although we didn't try any coffee I'm sure it's good! The service was kind and totally the best place to feed your inner Cookie Monster. Award winning is correct, I am on no judging panel but I give all the accolades to this hidden gem. If you are ever near here stop by and check them out you will not regret it! Read Google reviews after I went there. Should've known better! Never expected this level of insane behaviors from the owner of a local small business! $8.90 for a grocery store chocolate chip cookie! Straight up robbery! Should've known when I walked in and no prices were listed out. From the older reviews, people had mentioned much bigger cookies for $7 a year ago. Please save your money as a consumer, this place doesn't list any prices, because you will be in shock. When I spend over $5 for a single cookie I can taste the quality of the ingredients. Where $8.9 a single cookie at 1989 bakehouse tasted no different than a store bought cookie. And the owner will argue with you in the reviews and being sarcastic. If I would've read reviews and seen the comments that the owner made in response to lower reviews, I would've never spent a dime there.(The owners throw personal attacks to Google reviewers! Insane behaviors). The owner also threw another local small business under the bus because an item was mentioned in a Google review and allegedly this item was supplied by another small business. Insane behaviors! Talking about can't take constructive criticism! If you are thinking about going there, please read the reviews and the owner's response on Google . We stopped at their booth at the 4th ave street fair on 3/21. The cookies looked delicious, moist and were individually wrapped. We bought 4. All of them were completely dry and the texture was horrible. I will never buy anything from them again. Don't waste your money read more

I went there this morning I got a chai latte first of all it tasted weird and as I kept drinking, my throat started getting itchy and it started to close up I took two Benadryl and it hasn't resolved yet. Might go to the ER. I've had Chi latte so many times in my life and this has never happened. Never going here again and it's so expensive. read more

The staff was nice but I paid $15 for a cinnamon roll that was much smaller than indicated, hardly had cinnamon, and was extremely oily. The coffee was bitter, and the decor seems unthoughtful. I was so disappointed; I'd love to support a new local business, but I'm embarrassed by one that over charges for sub-par products. read more

Called to see if Bakehouse could make a chocolate meringue pie. I was told I needed to speak with Rose, which would be the following day. I was over in the area, so we stopped by (instead of calling). Met with a gentleman and Rose. Expressed my desire to have a chocolate meringue pie and inquired if they made them or could. I was assured that they could, and they gave me a cost. Though I thought it was a little extreme, I agreed. I haven't had a "GOOD" homemade chocolate meringue pie since my grandmother's passing. They assured me Rose was the best and asked when I needed the pie. I said there was no hurry and asked them to tell me when they could make the pie. This was 08/15/2025. They said they could have the pie ready on Wednesday, 08/20/2025. We agreed, they took my name and number, and said they would call when it was ready. Around 12 PM on 08/20/2025, I called my wife, who was near the restaurant, and asked her to swing by, as I had not heard from anyone. When she got there, not only was the gentleman not there, but Rose wasn't either. The staff on hand, though very courteous, knew nothing about the pie and tried to contact the guy or Rose with no luck. So no pie. A commitment they failed to honor. I have family in Green Valley, including my wife and me. We stop in ever so often for a snack or a quick lunch. Again, though the prices are high (My opinion), the food is usually good. We won't be back anytime soon. Lack of customer care, commitment not being honored after they set the date, and could not meet the date, not contacting me or for no other reason than to say "they dropped the ball", I consider this just POOR customer service. Lesson learned. If ordering from their menu or what is in there display case is what you want you'll get what you requested. If asking for something beyond the menu. Well, that's another story. The new Green Valley location is a disappointment. I hope they get their act together before the official January opening. I had to ask twice for water and when they brought our sandwich they had to go back for napkins. Also they were out of the potato salad side at 11:30. How does that happen before it is even lunch time. Their sandwich prices are ok but on the high side. Our sandwich, the Turkey Club was ok but nothing outstanding. They have to tell you all the cookie choices because none of them are marked. Even though they are very large I think $7 for one cookie is high. The super size cinnamon rolls are so large you would need 4 people to share one which isn't normally the case in Green Valley. Had to wait to get one of the three available menus as no menu items or prices are posted for you to see. You get the idea, it leaves a lot to be improved on. Also, there are only 9 tables which were full by 11:30 so what happens if business does pick up ? Also, the atmosphere is "sterile" so not really conducive to setting and enjoying your morning coffee, roll or lunch time sandwich. They may get another try after they've been officially open for awhile. A major disappointment as I was looking forward to a convenient morning coffee / lunch location on the south end of Green Valley where I live. read more
