Café Français is a tiny little pastry shop with a display case full of beautiful croissants, éclairs, macarons, tarts, crème brûlée and other French-style delicacies that make it very difficult to choose just one or two things. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant with Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese, béchamel sauce and Dijon mustard. The owner heated it for me on the spot, and it was heavenly--flaky, rich, savory and satisfying. I also tried the Biscoff Banana Butterscotch Panna Cotta, which is essentially four layers of utter decadence with a surprisingly wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The owner was very helpful and hospitable, which made the visit even more enjoyable. This is the newer Café Français location; there is also a much older, well-established location in Tempe. My only criticism is a slightly ironic one for a place called a café: there is no espresso machine, only drip coffee. So if you want the full French-breakfast experience with one of these pastries and a proper cappuccino, latte or other espresso-based drink, you can't quite get everything in one place. It is also definitely on the pricey side, but for an occasional splurge, the quality seems worth it. I have not been to this second location. It was a little hard to find. The door is under the signage. It's small and quaint. The pastries looked beautiful and inviting. I decided on the orange crème brûlée. The orange flavor was overwhelming and no other flavor could be discerned. The texture was technically perfect and prepared well. I brûléed it with my own sugar and torch once I got home bc I didn't wasn't eating it right away. You got a lot of custard for $10 b it still pricey. Service was great. Since this location opened, I'm here every week and I have several reasons: 1. Cafe Francais continues to make their items from SCRATCH. This practice is extremely rare and, in Tucson, even more so. There are quite a number of legacy bakeries here that rely on pre-made fillings, crusts, topping, dough; and, off-the-shelf ingredients. Those places are only as good as the choices on the Sysco truck deliveries. 2. The quality here is consistently good and the creativity of their ever-rotating menu makes every visit an adventure. 3. A locally-owned business that serves excellence in this crazy economic environment is very hard. If making my taste buds happy helps them remain a bakery that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the country -- no exaggeration -- then that's an easy thing for me to do. Look, I was stunned at how bad most bakeries are in Tucson. Having a place like this that I can take out-of-town friends to show off the best of Tucson feels great. Discretionary spending is hard right now for everyone but I'd rather steer my dollars to quality versus meh. read more

How very fortunate I am to have this little French bakery so close to my house. Over a year or two ago my husband and I went to the east side of Tucson to the original location to get croissants after seeing Post on social media about how awesome they are. I know that they sell their fresh pastries at the farmers market, but fighting through the crowds just to get one pastry is a little daunting. So when they open this new location on Broadway in Alvernon, I couldn't believe the news. I checked social media to see what the flavors will be for the week, but generally, they have a variety of croissants, bear clause, eclairs, macaroons, fresh bread, baguettes. A tart of the week as well as other baked pastries. This location offers limited parking in the front and additional parking in the back. So if you're a handicapped person, it is a challenge to get those prime spots because it's shared with a variety of other businesses. They do have outside seating. There's no inside seating and there is a restroom inside that is gender, neutral, and handicapped accessible. The pastries are on the Price side. You're gonna be paying $3.50 for a macaron and probably eight to $11 per pastry. The quality of the food provided is outstanding. They do sell coffees and in the display they have canned beverages. I've never gotten coffee at the new location. I live so close by I could just make it at home. The staff are always very nice and now that the newness of this location has passed, usually I can get in and out within 15 minutes. When Cafe Francais first opened this central location, I was waiting in line to get into the store, people would be so eager to try to get something posted online menu, there would be a frenzy that made it a little uncomfortable to wait. Today I ordered the ham and cheese croissant with Becham sauce and a strawberry brownie. Oh my gosh they look so amazing. They heated up the croissant for me and I'm gonna go home and enjoy. I'm so pleased they are now able to have two stores and wish them years of success. read more

One of the best bakeries in Tucson! If you're looking for authentic French pastries, this is the spot. Everything is fresh and the pastry menu rotates on a weekly basis. Did we drive out from Phoenix to try this specifically? No ... but it was a very close second (lol!) We got here as soon as they opened, and there was already a little bit of a line! The storefront is pretty small. It literally could hold 5 grown adults comfortably but there's plenty of outdoor seating options available! I went and little crazy ordering... and if I didn't have self control, I would have gotten more lol After we got our goodies, we sat outside to take pictures and try everything! I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. It's small and cute and the service was friendly. My biggest disappointment was how spendy it is. I went in wanting to try lots of things but at those prices I just selected 3 things which was around $25.00. Yikes!!! 3.5/5 Not an extensive selection but a good combined offering of savory and sweet pastries. Prices can be a little steep but given that this is freshly made and a local business.... I keep that in mind. I enjoyed the mocha cream puff... the cream was so good and the puff light and airy. The pecan praline tart was a bit hard to eat.. the crust was quite hard to bite into or even cut. The filling was good but it was messy just trying to get a bite without fighting with the pastry. This is one of two locations (the smaller one) and can also be found at the farmers market. This location has a few outdoor seating chairs with sunbrellas. . The outdoor seating is adjacent to a busy road and so do expect traffic sounds. There is some parking in front but quite hard to score a spot... and most of the spots are 10 min parking. There is however ample free parking in the back. I will try them again because I am going to assume the tart was a one off given the cream puff was delicious. read more

This is a very small location with a walk up counter where you order your food and go. They have a couple of seats outside but not many. I ordered a ham and swiss croissant and a salted caramel croissant. The ham and cheese was good. It was heated up and had great flavor. A bit on the small side for the price. The salted caramel was disappointing. The croissant part was hard and inedible. I ate the filling but it was super salty and overpowering without eating the bottom half of the dessert. I'm so glad that one of my favorite bakeries in town opened a central location! I definitely had to check it out for a sweet Saturday treat and was not disappointed! There was a queue out the door the whole time I was there. Plenty of shade to stand in and parking upfront and behind the store. Inside is super cute, pink and bright! Same amazing pastries from their east side location just a little closer to home. Drinks also available and some patio seating out front. Croissants were buttery, crisp and delicious. We are just back from Paris and these are just as tasty,but not quite as fall apart flakey, as the ones we ate there. Oh goodness, where to start? Kouing Amman is so tender inside yet has a lovely sugar shell. We visited the Broadway location on Sunday after shopping at Gather Vintage market . We had almond croisants that were some of the best I've had and I've had them in Paris and LA. We bought bread which was great . It would be nice if they had coffee but maybe that will come. Y'all. This place is so freakin' good! It is our new date day splurge on Sundays. The pastry is world class. My wife, who has traveled a ton, says it's as good as any Paris pastry shop she ever visited. People want to complain about their prices but honestly, that's just stupid. They use great ingredients that are not cheap and make pastry that is edible art. Cheap crossants have their place, sure. I'm a fan but that is not what these folks are up to. If you want to have the paris pastry experience and don't want to have to travel -we have it twice in Tucson. We have been to both locations! Eat up!! read more
