Visiting from out-of-state, my husband and I quickly found that healthy, gluten free options are not readily found in Tucson like they are in LA. I will start by saying that the staff are all wonderful here. Every single staff member we encountered was genuinely so welcoming and kind. It has a bit of that early 2000s Global Village Coffeehouse design aesthetic that you don't see anymore, and it makes you feel like you've stepped back in time in a good way.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food we had was just okay. My husband had the breakfast quesadilla and I had the breakfast burrito without cheese, both with the crispy breakfast potatoes. The eggs inside were definitely not freshest. They had a sad beige hue to them and weren't very flavorful at all other than the big chunks of onion. It was hard for me to call my dish a breakfast burrito because it was just egg mixed with onion and one tiny piece of green chile in a "tortilla." The housemade "tortillas" were very interesting. The texture was quite spongy and had a weird sweetness to it. It tasted more like scrambled eggs inside a crepe. The crispy potatoes were indeed very crispy but they were also a bit too salty and oily. The burrito was also listed as having chimichurri and enchilada sauce. I was thinking it would be more like a smothered burrito but it was just drizzles of both. The sauces did not make any sense to me. The red sauce tasted nothing like enchilada sauce and the chimichurri conflicted with the other flavors. I still ate everything and it was fine. It was edible but just definitely was the furthest thing from a breakfast burrito. My husband had similar feelings towards his quesadilla that had the same tortilla and was just the beige eggs with some cheese. I appreciate what Gourmet Girls is doing in a town where there are few options, but it definitely was not the best gluten free food I've had. I might come back and try some of their baked goods or lunch items next time I'm in town, but I wouldn't recommend the dishes we ordered. read more

Our friendly server, Neda, told us about the lemon poppyseed waffle special. We both decided to get it, though my partner got theirs with a side of eggs. My Reuben was the worst I've ever had - instead of 1000 Island dressing, it had some kind of weird sauce, very little pastrami, and the bread disintegrated in my mouth like a stale, bitter biscuit. The onion rings had a great crunchy breading, but zero flavor. The fries could be folded in half without breaking they were so soft. I came with my sister in July because she is gluten free- she was very excited to learn there were about 8 gluten free restaurants in Tucson, but this is the one we decided on. In July she had the biscuits and gravy, French toast and fried pickles- the biscuits and gravy didn't stand a chance. She thought she'd take one dish home for later. Nope. The fried pickles were also fantastic. I ordered the pancakes so they she could try a nibble of those, also. I am not gluten free. I love the gluten. These pancakes were incredible. Also, every human I encountered was as lovely, smiling, and eager to help. I decided to come back today because I like supporting local business. I had the mozzarella balls and the chicken blt sandwich with cucumber salad. The mozzarella sticks were better than "normal" sticks- not nearly as greasy and the cheese was melted to absolute perfection. A young lady was eating them when I came in and suggested to try them with ranch- interesting, but then the buffalo sauce came out for my sandwich. The buffalo sauce friends, get the buffalo sauce. My sandwich was impeccable. The pretzel bun was not the same flavor as a normal pretzel bun, but if you didn't tell me it was gluten free I would have never known. I arrived about 8:45 in the morning and was eating solo. There were not very many people sitting down to eat but I could tell they were busy with to-go orders. I had been to them only one other time before but it was before I had moved away (and now have moved back). It was quiet, well lit, and smelled heavenly the minute I walked in. They sat me within a few minutes and as soon as they did, they got slammed to the point that all tables on the bakery counter side was full. It was great! It let me know I was about to have good food. The waitress took my order, and it was out to me within 10 minutes. I got the chicken fried steaks and eggs with raisin bread. My gluten free heart was so happy and filled with joy. I hadn't had this dish in more than 10 years because I have never been able to find a truly GF restaurant. I ate half my meal and still had enough for a second meal. Upon leaving I ordered one of their carrot cake cupcakes and oh my goodness... that's dangerous. I could eat one of those every day!
