I waited until I was almost home to open the box and was pretty disappointed to find out I was given 3 peanut butter cookies instead of the 3 chocolate chip cookies I had ordered (luckily none of us have a peanut allergy). The flavors were amazing and we enjoyed the pastries, just bummed about being given the wrong items after the drive. I was very excited to try this place since I'd spent years going to the cafes that were previously in this location. I ended up ordering way too many things because I could not decide, but nothing disappointed! It's amazing the variety they have to choose from. Since I had no idea what most things were, I had lot of questions. I was nervous about taking the time from the staff because I went on a busy weekend morning. However, the person who worked with me was so incredibly friendly and never made me feel rushed to make a decision. She also explained some of the characteristics of their style of baking (European, I believe she mentioned, although I can't remember which country in Europe she specified), which was super-informative and educational. I took everything to go so I can't comment on the overall ambiance in terms of what it was like to stay there to eat. I look forward to returning to try more food, because it seems like they rotate items all the time and have new specials regularly. If you like baked goods of all kinds, I'd definitely recommend heading over. There's likely to be more than one option that will be to your liking! read more

Suuuuch a cozy and cute bakery. Have tried lots of their pastries, cakes, and desserts and have never been disappointed. The brownie was super chocolate-y and incredible. Their coffee drinks are also surprisingly great. I haven't always had the best experience with coffee from cafes that don't specialize in coffee, so I was excited and surprised to find that their banana latte drink is amazing. Strong coffee flavor with homemade banana syrup. Their staff is very friendly and helpful in a genuine way, and it's always great vibes inside with lots of people studying, on dates, or chatting with their friends. The energy is overall just very warm and welcoming with the awesome staff and the crowd that tends to hang out there. Overall, an excellent spot to grab a treat, a drink, and chill. read more

I was drawn here by the Nacho Libre menu. I've never actually seen it but I love a theme and this one was too silly to pass up. Just our luck that this happened to coincide with some partnership between Wells Fargo and the Chamber of Commerce so we got a $10 gift to use on our next visit. Yay! I tried the Esqueleto which was a sweet corn latte and the mazapan concha while my husband had a cherry horchata. The drinks were huge! They serve them in plastic takeout containers. This didn't necessarily dilute the quality but it was a little too much for me. The mazapan concha was good flavor wise but the presentation was a bit of a miss. The concha shell totally crumbled off. To make up for the miss here I got a Mexican sugar cookie to go and this was BOMB. Don't skip the cookies here. There's lots of seating inside but not much parking, it's only paid street parking as far as I could tell. read more

I ordered the Cafe Tubac and it was so tasty along with the cherry lime muffin, keep those on the menu please so good. Nice cafe! I like that it's on a corner and on 4th Ave. You can find street parking. It's fairly large inside and there were plenty of seats. The staff was friendly. We came for their Nacho Libre themed treats. The lattes and pastries were good. However, what was advertised on Instagram was not the same in person. I'm pretty disappointed with that. I am so happy this spot has opened. Came here twice now and I am satisfied. The bakery is very spacious and clean. There are a lot of tables for studying and the vibe here is very chill. I have gotten matcha scone, Ube scone, and matcha chocolate muffin, which are all well done. They don't over sugar their pastry and everything tastes very freshly done with fluffiness. I tried their most recent raspberry and chocolate croissant and it is very good I have also tried their breakfast sandwich and omgggggggggggg. It is one of my fav in Tucson. As you can see in my picture, it is big and will def fill you up. The egg is made well and creamy texture. The whole sandwich tastes very fresh without any chemicals, which is why I gave this spot a 5 star. I value freshness without much additives and preservatives and I feel this bakery made everything fresh and yummy. I tried their strawberry matcha and latte. Both taste very good. I came across this spot online and based on the pictures, I decided to make the drive last weekend to try their coffee and a pastry. Unfortunately, I didn't end up trying the coffee. It's a really cool and chill spot. A lot of seating, the staff seemed nice, and all the pastries looked amazing. However, there wasn't a menu displayed on the wall or a physical menu to look at while ordering. The staff mentioned that they have pretty much every syrup available but I personally needed a menu to help me decide what to get. I ended up grabbing a cinnamon roll to go. It was huge and really good. I think this place will be great. I can definitely see it being a good spot to study, work, or read at. I had never been to 1989 Bakehouse before today. As someone from the Midwest I have high expectations for customer service. The staff at 1989 is incredible. Their knowledge of the menu, patience for customers, and overall hospitality was like anything I've seen before. I was there for the Haus of Macs workshop filming content. Finally got to try the big cinnamon roll and large drink cups that I kept hearing about this place! There is an iced latte menu that you can order from and your drink comes in a big to go container and if you bring it back for your next visit, you'll receive 5% off! I chose to try the La Rosa which satisfied the matcha horchata craving I've been having, creamy and refreshing! I also tried the tofu avocado toast since I haven't tried anything like that before and it was pretty good - I like that they used tajin from another favorite local business Dirty T Tamarindo! Bought the Sonoran Oink sandwich to go for my husband and he said he really enjoyed it as well, highlighting the milky buns that were used. The inside is surprisingly big with plenty of seats but parking seems like it could be difficult since it's mainly street parking and you have to make sure to avoid the permit only areas - I found parking pretty easily on a Friday morning though. I had dinner here with a friend recently. I got a sausage and egg sandwich ($10) from the breakfast menu. My friend got a roast beef sandwich. We cut them in half, so I had half of each one. Both were good, especially the sausage and egg. We also split two desserts, which were even better (one was a slice of flavored cheesecake, the other a small tart [$6.75].) And I had a large iced decaf latte ($7.50), also good. It's a counter-service place. The service was friendly and competent. There is local art on the walls. It is spacious, with nice new tables and chairs. The menu is quite limited, but the person working there said that it would soon be expanded. read more

Went there in the evening to get some pastries for a late evening sugar craving. The space is larger than it looks from the outside with ample seating. It was bright and had fun pop of pink seats. Service was welcoming and friendly. The pastries were okay but a bit drier than expected ( they mentioned several times that everything is baked freshly daily). I love me a kouign-amann... especially the sugar in the middle of a caramelized crust... but this was not it. Barely had the buttery caramelized crust and I could barely taste any sugar folded it. The cruffin was okay but a bit on the dry end. The coffee cake was good and I particularly liked the frosting. They do make in- house syrups and the vanilla latte I got was decent. Parking can be challenging as there are limited street parking spots and if available, you do pay... but luckily Tucson's parking rates are very reasonable. read more

My review is strictly on the ambiance and service. I met a group here but wasn't feeling a pastry or a coffee. I think they need some more unsweetened options and teas. Others in the group enjoyed their drinks and the place was popping. There's a decent amount of seating inside and it's not stuffy. It is unassuming to the untrained eye! ;) my first instinct is to always check the menu online and they had that setup with current pricing but no pictures. NO PROBLEM. The menu and items sounded delicious + I was sold on the AWARD WINNING COOKIES part. We were looking for mainly breakfast but upon arrival to the counter I was told they serve the lunch items as well! The young man at the counter I believe his name is Brevan (or Brendan I may have gotten that wrong please forgive me) very sweet soul recommended the cinnamon roll which we'll have to come back and try sometime. We ordered the fluffy pancakes (3 to the stack comes with berry medley compost, YUMM) breakfast sandwhich (what McDonald's THINK they taste/look like!) and the triple chocolate cookie (per the young mans recommendation) WOW. The cookies are made with different chocolates one of them being LAYERED underneath sed cookie.... It's beautiful Belgian chocolately goodness!! I am so very delighted to have stopped here on a whim, the best places tend to come from me just deciding to go for it. This is a small shop with different lattes and drinks although we didn't try any coffee I'm sure it's good! The service was kind and totally the best place to feed your inner Cookie Monster. Award winning is correct, I am on no judging panel but I give all the accolades to this hidden gem. If you are ever near here stop by and check them out you will not regret it! I frequent Bake House since it's close to where I work. I've enjoyed all the pastries I've tried but the scones were the standouts for sure. Not too sweet, moist not dry, and drizzled with delicious glazes! The ube one was my fav. I've had matcha and coffee from here which were both tasty and I like trying the different house syrups. The menu has a lot of fun flavor options. I got a BLT for lunch the other day that was SO GOOD I'm still thinking about it. Do I think the prices are high? Idk they seem average for 2026. Never expected this level of insane behaviors from the owner of a local small business! $8.90 for a grocery store chocolate chip cookie! Straight up robbery! Should've known when I walked in and no prices were listed out. From the older reviews, people had mentioned much bigger cookies for $7 a year ago. Please save your money as a consumer, this place doesn't list any prices, because you will be in shock. When I spend over $5 for a single cookie I can taste the quality of the ingredients. Where $8.9 a single cookie at 1989 bakehouse tasted no different than a store bought cookie. And the owner will argue with you in the reviews and being sarcastic.
