While there are many local options, I don't mind a smaller, lesser-known chain with quality products. Woops ships most of its goodies from New York and maintains just two locations in Arizona. Their flagship items are macarons, but there are plenty of options for a real breakfast. What I love: You wouldn't upset me if you declared these to be the best macarons in town. I don't know if I'd quite agree with that, but you'd have an argument. I am in love with the croissants--so flaky you must consciously avoid making a mess. The chocolate is my favorite, but I sometimes go with the much heftier almond variety. I'm usually taking mine to-go, but I do enjoy the warm decor inside and the patio seating. What I like: The occasional savory item like the leek and potato pastry is a tasty change of pace. They make breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well. They're open during pretty generous hours, so I've found myself popping in for a snack as late as 8pm. What needs work: The coffee isn't bad, but it might be the least impressive in the neighborhood, both in terms of flavor and selection. No standout lattes and relatively weak iced coffee, but still OK when the sweet treats are the star of the show. I don't think you could go wrong with a plain cold brew on these hot summer days. This was the coffee shop nearest to my hotel so I had to give them a try. I saw that lots of people recommended their chocolate almond croissant so I had to try one. The first day I went in they had already sold out of them, so I got a chocolate croissant. It was still a good pick as it was delicious. It's a cute little bakery and cafe with a light and bright setting. The owner was there and she told me she would have the croissants for me the next day. I returned the next day and the owner told me she was still baking them and to come back in 30 minutes. When I came back they had just come out of the oven so I couldn't have gotten them any more fresh. I'm glad I was able to get one because it was delicious. I'm disappointed writing this because our first visit earlier that morning was great; friendly service, good sandwiches, and excellent coffee. However, when we returned later that day (April 15 around 3:00 PM) for dessert, the experience was completely different. The employee at the register (blonde, wearing a blue sweater) was noticeably rude. We waited in line as she approached every customer ahead of us to take their order. When it was our turn, she did not acknowledge us and instead continued preparing boxes (something that could have been done after assisting waiting customers). After about 5 minutes, we asked if we could order, and she responded with an annoyed look, telling us we could come up to the register "if we wanted to order." For context, every customer she assisted before us was white, and we were the only people of color in the store. While I don't want to make assumptions, the difference in treatment was difficult to ignore. It's unfortunate because we genuinely enjoyed our first visit, but this experience changed our perception. This is the cutest little bakery by the University of Arizona with great treats! I'm always a bit picky when it comes to macarons but the texture and flavor of these are absolutely perfect! Everyone loves their macarons, their vibrant colors and macarons' vibrant and so pretty, for me they are hit and miss as they can be a little too sweet. However their hidden gems are their pastries, their danish are hands down one of the best in town. If you stop by and are lucky enough to find a blueberry one ask for it warmed up, you won't regret it. Personally what stops me from the full 5 is the coffee, as it can be a little hit or miss for me since it can be on the stronger side. However, if you are more of a medium to dark roast this might be your spot for coffee. I dropped in here last night with two friends after dinner at a nearby restaurant. I got an eclair ($4.95). They offered us free samples of their macarons, so I also had a honey lavender macaron. The eclair was better (but smaller) than the ones they sell at Safeway for about the same price. The macaron was lovely though a little too sweet for my taste. Service was friendly. However, I felt extremely uncomfortable because as I was waiting in line, I noticed the manager ( I assume) was yelling at some of her employees and that is never acceptable. I understand it was quite busy but despite of that, it made me feel off-put and stressed out as a customer. It is not my place to get involved but it is definitely not easy to ignore since the place is already so small. I personally work as a waitress and recognize how unprofessional this is.
