So far my favorite Jamaican spot in killeen. The only place I've been able to get ackee that I really enjoy. I would also recommend their curry chicken and oxtail. Ok. So Today I tried 1 Luv Island Restaurant, and I ordered the oxtail plate because they were out of Jerk chicken. So when I get home I noticed they left out the cabbage. The guy(sorry I don't know his name)told me it could have been left out due to them rushing. Ok! Look they were trying to get the food out fast I understand, but what if I was in a rush, and forgot to pay?! I'm just being honest. No big deal. The flavor of the oxtail and the rice made up for the missing cabbage. The plantains were good as well. I can't rate the cabbage, but everything else I tasted was on point for the most. read more

The cashier doesn't know how to work the cash register or do simple math. Overcharged me by about 12 dollars on my initial check and ran my card. Fixed the amount after I walked her through the addition process and ran my card again, without cancelling the original though so I ended up being charged about $60.00 for a $20.00 lunch. The food was okay, not worth the headache or the 30 minutes on the phone with my bank's fraud department. If you do eat here, use cash. read more

I loved the music they were playing, first off. This is a great little restaurant, the server was very nice and the food was fantastic. Curry goat melted is melt in your mouth tender and very flavorful. The curry chicken was just as good. My kids devoured the brown stew chicken. Several menu items were unavailable but in my experience this is common at restaurants like this where big batches are prepared to serve. We were happy with our meal. read more

This place is incredible!! The meat is well-seasoned and incredibly soft. We came at lunch, and it wasn't crowded, which is a big bonus. Everything was served in styrofoam containers with plastic flatware. Service was fast, food was cheap, and the staff was friendly. read more

They were usually okay. Last time I had curry chicken it was extremely spicy. The time before that I had barely any oxtail and my beef patties were hard on the bottom. To be fair I'll state that my visit that i'm writing about was at least a year ago. I saw that they are still open (surprisingly) and remembered that i didn't leave them a review, so here I go. Last time I visited this place I was with a friend and we were both craving some island food and we happen to have been in the area. It was during dead hours probably around 3 or 4pm. We first noticed that they had bread sitting in one of those displays and it looked like it was about to go bad, but we didn't mind it we thought maybe it just got cold since lunch is over. Then we ordered and when we got our order, our rice looked just like rice that you would get from a microwaveable rice packet! We were pretty disappointed with this. It was dry and definitely ruined our appetites. The food seemed like it was reheated from left overs from lunch. I would have liked it better if they told us that we'll have to wait for rice or the food to get cooked but it seemed like they just wanted to make the money and served us junk! It was the first and last time I gave them a visit. I didn't even know they were still open and I eat next door all the time. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

Normally I would not do this but I will not change my rating till these owners get it together. On 3 separate occasions I went to this place because I heard nothing but good things. I looked up there hours online and when I arrived on all three occasions they were closed. There hours are even clearly marked on there doors. This is bad business. I showed up all three times hours before there scheduled closing time. Maybe they went under? The food was delicious! My husband got the ox tail and I got the brown chicken stew. Both came with a side of rice & beans and a cabbage salad. It felt like a home cooked meal and very authentic. For me this is the place you want to go and hang out for a bit and really enjoy the food. The people there are so kind and even gave a sample of the items they had available that day. Just understand that their food is slow cooked to perfection and they make what they can sale for that day, that is probably why there isn't more available. I travel all over the country for work and I have has a decent amount of Caribbean food. They have the best jerk chicken I have ever had and the cabbage is awesome! Not sure where this dude is getting cold food, but he must be thinking of another place. My food is always hot even after the drive back to the hotel as I always do take out. I also like that they pay attention and give you what you want when you ask for extra spicy, most places don't do that these days. read more
