I wish we would have known to call 1st Call, first. We were about to be ripped off by another HVAC company when my neighbor (god bless him) recommended (demanded) that we call 1st Call and get Bill's opinion before we replace our whole system. What was going to be a $10k repair was handled by 1st Call for less than $600. Bill from 1st Call is a seasoned pro and quickly isolated the problem with our A/C unit. We arrived home at 7 pm on Sunday, October 27th to no heat. Outside temps were in the 20's with expected overnight low of of 18 degrees. We quickly needed help. We need idea of what it would cost to rectify an issue that was brought up during a home inspection for a furnace and gave these guys a try. Fortunately it turned out to be a bad gas valve and they were able to swap it out in about 45 minutes. The entire staff at 1st Call me was very professional and when my furnace broke down they came out the next day and resolved it without ordering any replacement parts. A piece had broken off and not allowed the flames to come on and so they fixed it by using another inlet hole which saved me lots of $$$. Overall, have used them twice for service and very good! A water leak set off my alarm system this morning. 95+% of plumbers would have opened the ceiling to figure it out. By accessing two utility rooms and using his cell for video and still shots he pinpointed the source of the leak to an upstairs shower. The fix was simple. And this isn't the first time Bill has saved me money. On a routine HVAC cleaning/service he caught a failing bearing in a blower motor that was less than a month from the warranty expiration. I had heard the whining for months and thought little of it. Replacing that motor under warranty saved me over 200 bucks. Bill is professional, smart, & a good guy. Called for a regular AC maintenance check - They charged 189 just to come out and run some AC tune up. He added an additional 100 dollars to refill the argon gas. In the basement AC unit - they failed to notice and inspect the very visible water leakage from drainage pipes on the top of the AC unit, the water was seeping into the capacitor box and was leaking water on top of it thus damaging some units. I have to call another AC technician to fix the leakage issue. read more

Highly recommend!! Excellent service and very reasonable rates. Our boiler went out sometime early Sunday morning. I called these guys as they were one of the few HVAC service companies open on Sunday. Steve answered immediately and said that he'd send a tech out in a few hours. He also explained to me that while they do not charge extra for Sunday service calls, if we needed parts, then the distributors would charge at least $100 to open on Sunday. I appreciated the heads up on additional charges. Steve called back about 5 minutes later and apologized, but that the tech he had available that day does not service boilers, only furnaces. He apologized and said that the owner, Bill, is the boiler expert and that he was out of the area until Monday. He offered to come by first thing Monday morning. Actually, I was ok with Monday - even though it was freezing in our house - because I probably wouldn't have authorized a $100 special parts request on a Sunday. Not a big deal, really, we were going to be out of the house most of the day anyway. Bill and Steve promptly showed up before 9am on Monday morning. Bill pulled the cover off the boiler and immediately saw the problem. He fixed it quickly, taking the time to explain the system to us. They also stayed a bit to make sure that the radiators were all warming up and that our hot water system was working correctly. Our issue was a relatively quick fix, requiring no parts replacement and Bill threw in a quick service at no extra charge. All that cost us $100. These guys take incredible pride in their work. Our furnace broke, and the big-name company we called identified that the circuit board needed to be replaced. The cost to repair it? $1,150. I looked online and saw that that was waaaaay overpriced. So I called another company. Their estimate? $570 - $690. That was better, but still I wanted to try 1st Call. I'd read great reviews on Yelp, and the reviews were so positive that I wanted to call. I'm so glad I did. 1st Call fixed the furnace for $425! That's just over a third of the original estimate. Not only that, but Bill and Tony were great to work with. I talked with Bill at 12:30p today. He told me the circuit board we needed was at Rheem in CO Springs. Tony drove there to get it, and they were at our house at 6p. It took less than an hour to install it. Can you imagine how awful we'd have felt paying $1,150 for a $250 circuit board and 50 minutes of labor? Bill and Tony were very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. I definitely recommend them. And I will stay away from those big-name companies. Did I mention that the first estimate was $1,150? That experience had one bright side: It made me all the more appreciative of finding honest, competent folks to repair our furnace. read more

I woke up to a cold house and no response from my furnace. I called several companies and was unable to get service for seven to ten days out. I called 1st Call and spoke with Diane, she was very courteous and professional, unfortunately they were several days out. With snow coming i was concerned about no heat. Within an hour Diane called me and let me know they had a cancellation and asked if I could be available at that time. Andrew came at the time promised and did an awesome job getting my furnace going just in time for a snowstorm. I called this company based on the positive reviews on Yelp. The technician came on time and was helpful in terms of the information he shared about my new furnace. The only reason the review isn't five stars is because when the tech cleaned my furnace he blew dust particles throughout the entire home without warning me. I ended up having to dust, sweep, mop, and clean anything that was out in the open which took me a few hours. He also knew I was playing my vinyl music while this was going on, which wasn't good because the dust cover was open. I would have opened my windows and doors at least before this work was done to improve the airflow and turned on my air filter unit. I did open everything up once he told me what happened. Also, I had to visit the dentist twice in the week afterwards and I believe the participles triggered my sinuses to get congested which can lead to nerve pain in the molars (per my dentist). I've never experienced this before and typically don't have allergies, so I have to believe all the air particles caused me this grief. read more

Bill was freindly enough and timely in his response. But he charged me $175 for a non-technical service on my AC unit. that took 20 minutes to complete and required no replacement parts. He blew out a drain line and cleaned the grill of AC unit outside. In addition, I was charged $50 for a shot of freon...some of which was released when his assistant was making a connection with a test guage. I've paid less for plumbing and electrical services which required parts and services. I did not persue competitive quotes for a service call, nor did I ask Bill to provide that quote over the phone before he came out. I depended on Yelp to make my recommendation. Next time however, I'll make a few calls. You should, too. Later Edit on 11/13/13: I found my review on this company had been 'hidden', where it was not being counted in total number of reviews or the overall company rating. Where a paid sponsor cannot delete a negative review, can they 'hide' that review? I'm new to Yelp...so I'll let you be the judge on whether a deceptive practice is being deployed to hide negative reviews. read more

Fast and furious HVAC superhero to the rescue. Bill marched into my house at 8am the morning after I called him with an A/C meltdown during the hottest week of the summer. Like a pit crew at the Indy 500, he went to work on my failed compressor. Diagnosis: dead. But like a miracle worker, he was determined to exhaust all possibilities of reviving my dearly departed air conditioning unit, returning to my house later in the day with more equipment. After another round of CPR, he pronounced her dead, again, and provided a quote for replacing ole' Bessie: $600 lower than I'd been quoted by a competitor. As I pictured myself rolling in the ice cold dollar bills I would save with Bill, we scheduled an appointment for the following afternoon. I was assured I would return from work after a dreadfully hot week to a cold house. I did, with a warm heart. Thankful that Bill--motivated by his sheer volume of panicked customers, an incredible work ethic, or his light-speed, type-A personality--got me back up and running in 48 hours flat. Bill was fantastic! Our water heater had stopped operating. After a couple of weeks of trying to re-start it, it had failed. I called Bill for service he was able to diagnose the problem over the phone and immediately gave me a recommendation on a part and scheduled an install the following two days. When the part arrived, Bill installed it within an hour and we have not had any problems with the water heater since then. It's now been a couple of months. No show or call for missed appointment. We have some furnace issues from the poor installation of an oversized unit and it is missing an air intake vent. After being told to replace our very expensive 8-9 year old unit AND the a/c, which works just fine by several large companies advertised in the ValPak coupons (and subsequently found they all had terrible Yelp reviews), we checked for positive Yelp reviews and called 1st Call for a free estimate. The scheduler said she could get a tech out first thing Monday morning and I would be the first call of the day. So far, so good. The appointment was from 8-10. Although I had expected the tech to show at 8, I wasn't bothered until no one showed or called by 10. Since I work too, I left shortly after 10. Around 20 minutes after, the person came which is why I gave another star. He had no apologies for being late or not calling; just that he could come back later. I declined. Not showing up for appointments or calling if you are going to be late is not a great way to establish reliability or trust with this potential new customer. read more

After a furnace service 2 years they left a large hole in the furnace, that we didn't notice. When our vents were cleaned, the hole was discovered. This explains why our house was so cold and the basement so warm! I called but they are unwilling to come out because it was 2 years ago. Do NOT hire this company! Absolutely awesome! We had another company come out to see why our furnace wasn't working and after a diagnosis it was a $400 repair that he would need to order in the parts "but it probably won't last and we would need to replace it." Of coarse this meant a minimum of $6500 for a like replacement. So, to Yelp I went, and couldn't be happier with finding 1stCall! Bill came out and within a few minutes diagnosed the problem and it was a simple reset he needed to do. $175 later, the heater works great and there is a warranty for a year on it!
