I am writing this review after owning a home with piers installed by 1st Choice Foundation. The repair was completed in November 2015 (yes). When they finished the job, they told me no settling should happen. And 11 years later, the house is still rock solid. Nothing has changed over those years. This should let you know do quality work that will stand the time (and pressure) to support your foundation. My realtor suggested I call 1st Choice foundation Repair and I immediately got John Calhoun on the phone. He allowed me to vent a little bit about all the issues I was having and seeing. He reviewed all my videos and pictures immediately and called me back within minutes. He advised me to get a structural engineer out there, which came out in two days he offered to credit the price of the structural engineer against whatever I would spend with him if I chose him, which I thought was cool I felt like he really educated me about what was happening with my foundation and although it always sucks to have to get your foundation repaired, it was probably the easiest possible experience I could've imagined. It only took them a couple days to come out. They were there promptly at 7:45 AM. They put five lines into the bedrock around the corner of my house. They were done before noon. It looked like they never came. Which is probably the biggest compliment I could give them Additionally, the exterior corner of the house was raised an inch and a half which was great and I saw interior cracks close up a bit. I found two people said this company was a quality foundation repair company. I called and set up an appointment with 1st Choice. They gave me the first step to getting my foundation repair. Then they came in and worked my foundation repair, and I am very pleased and satisfied. The cost was very reasonable for the value of my home. My house was built in 1966, on piers and beams. I used First Choice for my foundation repair. They did a good job on the foundation but, they cut the lines to my sprinkler system and did not tell me. When I went to turn the system on I realized it did not work. I looked where they had dug holes and saw a lot of Red electric line pieces where the holes had been, I think it was very wrong of them not to tell me they did that. I had to call a sprinkler repair company to fix it and it was not cheap, I think they should have been responsible for fixing it. They knew it was there. read more

We had 1st Choice do work about 12 years ago so we called them to come out again 1.5 years ago as we were seeing we needed more work. John came out and provided a quote. We ended up with other home issues that took priority at the time. We decided a couple of weeks ago to have them come out again since we are now ready to move forward. John showed up 30mins early and as soon as I opened the door, John was there and immediately started telling me that he had been to the house before and provided us with a quote and that he was not doing another one again. I thought he was joking at first, but turns out he was not and he kept being condescending. I was in the middle of work conference call and had to call my husband to come home early to meet this guy. I mentioned to my husband what had happened and my husband did address the rudeness and he claimed he didn't mean it. 1st Choice was definitely a company we were considering to go with since we already had work done with them, but I refused to give my business to someone who doesn't value their customers. read more

First Choice became the last choice for me! I was drawn to them based on yelp reviews and you can tell they protect these reviews by commenting below every negative review to dismiss the reviewer . I am sure they will comment below my review but I am only stating facts: *bad costumer service Called numerous times and no one got back to me Set an appointment with George who set a time on Saturday/changed the time/I made new arrangements/ then he canceled/ I pleaded with him to keep the appointment but I could not make the new time so he would be meeting with my girlfriend/ he left after only being there 10min and stated he would bid off the engineer report I had gotten/ bid never came * manager tried to smooth things over (Nice guy but simply a smooth talker much like his commentary under negative reviews) *bid the job 14,000$ Went with Pro-pier out of Fate Bobby is a straight shooter and was doing the same work 14 piers and a drain for 9,000$ I saved 5,000$ and a lot of head-ache!!!!! Had an appointment for a foundation inspection on a duplex I have under contract. I am a real estate investor. The office staff was friendly and helpful but the technician they sent was unprofessional. He called me 15 minutes before the appointment to notify me of a late arrival. He then asked why I was calling. I told him. He asked if I saw any cracks, I said no. He told me it was a waste of his time and he couldn't make money like that. When we began to see red-flags that may be indicative of foundation issues, I jumped on Yelp to determine a reputable company. It is rare to find a contractor-esque business with more than a couple of stars on here, but Choice caught my eye with an average review of 5-stars by multiple users. Such ratings are not "handed out" by most consumers, so it was a natural pick for us. As we waited for our scheduled appointment, I began to cringe at the thought of what could be a tab upwards of several thousand dollars, which of course, our homeowner's insurance would certainly not cover... Jason came out promptly during our scheduled appointment and quickly put our mind at ease. This gentleman was not out to do a sales pitch to us--nor was he out to sock us with $5000 repair bill for something that we didn't need. He took some measurements and provided a thorough assessment to us relative to the root-cause of some of the factors which led us to believe that our house may be crumbling to the ground--and suggested that we consider some simple foundation maintenance routines either through a self-installed soaker system (which, yes I've been neglecting). He also discussed a more permanent soaker system that is attached to our in-ground sprinkler set-up which his company could help with at a reasonable cost at some point in the future (at a time that is convenient for us) to help remain in front of future issues. Jason also took the time to show me how to self-repair a couple of simple of issues that had also been causing some anxiety for us. All in all, I was thoroughly impressed by Jason's professionalism and honest approach, and I would give choice foundation 6 stars if I could. I live in a old house in Frisco (yes, one of the very few in the downtown area) and I called Chris to check out my foundation. My house is over 100 years old and there has obviously been some shifting. Here is what I appreciate about these guys. They told me: 1) There was shifting and 2) Not to do anything about it. They said that the house wasn't going to shift anymore and it would do more damage than good if I were to try to "fix" it. They could have tried to sell me on a 5-10K service, but instead, their integrity prevailed. read more

We are getting ready to sell our house and one of the contractors doing some work noticed a couple of things that prompted him to tell us we may want to have the foundation assessed. 1st Choice Foundation Repair came highly recommended on Frisco Online, so I gave them a call. The owners were booked up for the day and i've been scrambling to try to find someone to come out before we spend any more money on any other upgrades to the house. Jason called back a few hours later and said he was around the corner and could come by if I was home. After taking a look at the areas of concern, he doesn't feel we need any repairs at this time. We had Nick from 1st Choice Foundation Repair come out to our property, to look at some areas of concern. He arrived exactly at 9:00AM (despite having a 9:00AM - 11:00AM window) and was very thorough with his inspection of the house internally/externally and taking some measurements inside the house. He did an excellent job explaining the terminology and what typically constitutes a foundation problem. He also had some very helpful advice on how to keep your home's foundation in good shape. There was no sales pitch or scare tactics - something as critical as your home's foundation can easily scare people into unnecessary work, but they were honest in their assessment. If our house ever needs foundation repair, I would feel very comfortable with having 1st Choice Foundation Repair doing the job for me. I had noticed some cracks in garage ceiling that were running into the wall as well. After doing some online research I decided to contact 1st Choice. What a great choice it turned out to be!!! They were at my house today 5 mins before the scheduled time and two very professional techs were at the door. They looked at the cracks and informed me that I don't have to worry and it is not a foundation issue. These are regular settlement cracks. I have to admit I was very scared because most of the foundation companies scare stories talk about techs trying to sell some foundation repair solutions. But not 1st Choice. Nick came to inspect my house today, and he was very professional, friendly, and informative. Nick arrived on time, and I showed him the area of concern, and he also walked around the house (inside and outside) to inspect the rest. The entire process took about half an hour or less. After inspecting the house including the elevation checks, Nick noted that there are no foundation issues. Phew! This was the best way I could have gotten my foundation inspected, and I am very glad I picked 1st Choice Foundation Repair Co. I definitely recommend. Note to self: best way to prevent foundation issues is to have gutters all the way around the house, & water 12-18 inches away from the house around the house three times a week for 45 minutes. read more

This company did the foundation work on the house before I purchased it so I cannot speak to the validity of their work. I bought my house and had a warranty transferred from the previous owner to my name, 1st Choice charges $100 for that, ok. Now I call because there are new cracks, some pipes moving in the guest bathroom and guess what, it's $100 just to come out. This place is crooked as they get. It's obvious that the work he does was worthless and had to pull out of this area because he was losing too much money on his "lifetime warranty" work. At first I was very excited that I located a reputable foundation repair company that walked me through each step of the process and ensured I was very comfortable with the process. 1St Choice Foundation insisted they were leaders in this work because of their experience and have a full time crew dedicated to foundation repair. At the conclusion of the work I had some plumbing issues that needed to be addressed. Upon excavating the soil from the pier in question it was obvious that my sprinkler electrical lines were ducted taped together. This connection would have failed upon being exposed to water. 1st Choice Foundation quickly became difficult to contact to discuss this issue. Next I was charged and eventually refunded for City Permits and Engineer report that was not performed. Although I doubt I would have received a refund if I didn't bring up the concern. Finally, the plumbing and sprinkler repair company 1st choice recommended were subpar. The plumbing company did not know how to perform a proper leak test because they failed to perform a leak test on both lines. The plumber I called for the second opinion educated me on the 2 lines and said it would be very difficult to complete proper leak test without testing both lines. Next the sprinkler repair company worked on my sprinkler system for a full day and couldn't repair the system and insisted I needed a new control box. My normal landscaper replaced the cabling and located poorly performed repairs in less than a day. Again I selected 1st Choice Foundation Repair because I believed they were experts and I would have a worry free process. I received bids that were significantly less, I suspect I may have had similar results but at least I wouldn't have spent the extra money. read more

Chris and Jason have an authentic desire to do what is right by each homeowner they serve whether it is repairing their foundation or ensuring that the foundation isn't in need of repair. In the past, I have had foundation companies who have quoted me on huge repair jobs for my home only to find after hiring an independent engineer myself that no work needed to be done. So this is one of the first questions I brought up with them. They go out of there way to make sure this doesn't happen so their clients get a foundation that will last a lifetime, but only if their foundation actually needs it. read more

Jason Harber from 1st Choice foundation repair came out to inspect my home. Within 15 minutes he explained how bad my foundation was and that I needed 7 piers in the front corner of my home. I stated that I noticed a few piers already in that area when i bought the house, and he said it was just the electrical connections for the home and not piers. He wanted $3,100 to place the much needed piers. I had a second opinion the next day, and the guy quickly said I dont need any work done. I told him about the previous inspection, and he stated that that area already had some high quality piers placed, and that the house is in great shape. He said he will do the work if I want, but he would be ripping me off because my house doesnt need any work. 1st choice also tried to sell me a foundation sprinkler system 1 year ago, and I showed them that the previous owners already had one installed before I bought the house. They lied and said it wasnt a sprinkler system, but was a drain tube for the a/c. I had it looked at later by a third party and it was a foundation sprinkler system and was in great condition! read more

Do not use this company. They did work on a home in 2012 with the original owners. We purchased the home in 2016. Prior to us purchasing the home, 1st choice came out and said the home was "in tolerance" and submitted paperwork to the sellers stating such. Once in the home for a few months, we noticed doors not closing right. I called 1st choice out and they said it was still ok. (They wouldn't honor the warranty from the original work bc the sellers didn't transfer it within 60 days). A year later, the foundation issues seemed to worsen. I called 1st choice out again and they said we needed 12 new piers. I then decided to hire a structural engineer to give me a whole engineering evaluation. He stated we needed 2 piers and the original 10 piers just needed adjusting. I called 1st choice and asked that we just have the original 10 piers adjusted and they can charge us a price to adjust instead of having to pay for all new piers. I was told they no longer have a "pier guy" to make adjustments. I definitely wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on new piers if they can't be adjusted since they don't have a "pier guy". I truly believe they said the home was in tolerance prior to the sale so they weren't liable for any warranty at the time, knowing there was a chance the warranty wouldn't be transferred. Not sure how it can go from being in tolerance to needing 12 piers in a matter of a year with a certified drip system and gutters in place. read more

I had 1st Choice Foundation Repair come out to investigate some minor cracking in the brick along side of my garage. They called before coming to ensure I was here. When I needed to re-schedule, they had no issue with it and moved on to the next job. Finally when they did come out (2 weeks later, my choice), the technician spent a good 90 min taking readings and comparing levels around the house. When we went over the results, turns out there was nothing that was needed. The "crack" was not enough to worry about (less than 1/8 inch) and the levels around the house all were within tolerances. They did recommend a foundation drip system to keep the ground around the house moist, but said if I was to use the sprinkler system twice a week, I wouldn't even need that. If I need repair work in the future, I'll be calling back. read more

In 2002, we had foundation repairs made to our home. We used a company that had been in business for 25 years and provided a lifetime transferable warranty. They installed concrete piers around the exterior of our house for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, that company went out of business. So when we noticed serious looking foundation issues, we needed to look for a new company. After reading some reviews on the internet, I called 1st Choice Foundation. I talked to Jason who was very helpful and directed us to an independent foundation inspection company. This is a great idea, for both the customer and the foundation company. The foundation inspector evaluated our property and provided us with a couple of directions we could go to repair our foundation. Though we had some settling, the majority of our damage was caused by a slab leak. So we needed both interior and exterior piers. I sent the proposed repairs to multiple foundation repair companies, including 1st Choice. Chris was extremely prompt in returning an estimate for both steal and concrete piers. The concrete piers were close or cheaper than other companies, but their estimate on the steal piers were more expensive. However, I very much enjoyed working with Chris and even if he had not agreed to match a competing price, I would stayed with them. During the next few weeks, Chris answered a multitude of questions and when he didn't have an answer, he didn't mind referring me to the people who would have those answers. I feel like this is a very honest company in an industry that doesn't have the best reputation. When they got ready to do the work, the crew showed up a day early. I wasn't prepared for them to start working inside, so they worked with my schedule and did what they could outside and waited to start the interior work. The following two days, they were prompt and arrived at the time they said they would. They worked diligently and given the inherent mess that interior piers create, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they contained that mess. In the evenings, my house was mostly usable. When they finished the work, they cleaned up exceptionally well. Given that they worked late on a Friday, I was even more impressed with how it looked when they were done. The workers were friendly and the foreman outstanding to work with. Sergio spoke fluent English and was ready to address any questions or concerns. I was completely impressed with those who did the repairs. The follow-through upon completion was good as well. I received my paid invoice along with my warranty information. Any questions I had following the work were again answered promptly. I am very impressed with 1st Choice Foundation. For having to make such a costly and frustrating repair, they made it a lot less painful. I hope to not have any more foundation issues, but if so, I will be calling them again. read more

Nick came out today to evaluate my house after I noticed a new crack in my wall. After arriving at the very beginning of my given time frame, he visually inspected the interior and exterior, then took measurements throughout the house. Luckily, he noticed no foundation issues (sigh of relief) and discussed preventative measures I should take to ensure my foundation stays in good shape. Nick was very patient as he explained everything to me (a few times). I'm a little bummed that they just recently stopped doing the drip irrigation systems, but maybe they'll be able to start that back up soon. read more

So here's what went down: I called Jason, left a message, he called back immediately, he was super friendly, and we scheduled an appointment for him to come out and give me the low-down on my super old pier and beam foundation that was sagging a little on one side. We had to schedule the appointment about three weeks out because my schedule was a bit wacky, so I was concerned he might forget, but not only did he not forget, he showed up EARLY! He looked around at things, said he could fix it, but that it's pretty minor and if it were his house, he would just deal with the annoyance and not do anything with it. He gave me some recommendations on drainage to keep the problem from worsening and went on his merry way, having not charged me a penny. I'd had another company look at it and they quoted me $2400 with no guarantees they could actually fix it. So Jason definitely deserves 5 stars here. And he's not so hard on the eyes, either. :-P read more

I've never written a review anywhere, but I feel the need here... The owner of this company, Jason, is one who won't call you names in an email so that you can prove it, but my opinion is that that is the extent of his professionalism in terms of being a good businessman. Just read further and you decide if you want this person to do any work on your home... below is the actual email I sent to him after he called and attacked me: I just received a phone call from you jason where you unloaded with a barrage of insinuations and name calling against me and my character as to why I was "adverse" in your words, toward your highlighted email. I simply asked you some questions in the below email as to why you felt the need to highlight obvious information. In that phone call you called me sensitive, juvenile and made the accusation that I'm not a man. When I tried to interject to ask if you were finished, you proceeded to tell me that now I had to call my wife to explain to her that since I am sensitive and not a man that this is why your not going to do any work to the house (after 3 attempts and failures to do the work right I might add) at all after your company has already started the work and has a lifetime warranty on the workmanship that has obvious faults according to your own companies assessments. Not to leave out that you said I should make sure that I explain to her that when I become a man and apologize to you that you might decide to help again... I expect a call back with an apology for your outburst, your name calling and your character assassination that I had to endure, when you can collect yourself and handle a conversation in a professional manner. Also, I have not received a phone call from your people at the other company that you said would be coming at at your cost to evaluate the work done and the work that needs to be done yet either. -End email- Be very selective as to who you let in your home to do work. This guy gives contractors a bad name... Needless to say, my wife and I moved out of the house and the next owner will have to deal with him. Hope they can get through it. I would not recommend this company. They worked on our foundation before we bought the house. We had a a difficult time getting the warranty to transfer from the previous owner, and then the warranty was voided (after paying the transfer fee) because of work done to the plumbing before we moved in. When trying to get someone to come out to look at what was happening to the foundation, they sent people that were not able to take measurements or do anything of value. That happened 3-4 times, wasting our time as my husband had to take off work to meet with them. They sent a handyman to check out our plumbing who said we had a leak that would cost around $2500 to fix. When we got a more reputable plumbing company to give a second opinion, they said there was no leak. In one of the last correspondences with them, they suggested ripping all of our floors up so they could come and assess what will need to be done. Who just rips up all their floors without knowing what work is going to be needed? They were difficult to deal with and just acted like they did not care to have our business.
