I recently opened a HELOC and received great service from Jeanette Lema! I no longer live in the Bay Area and thought it might be tricky doing all the paperwork but she made everything easy. The credit union offers online tools to securely upload documents online and she gave clear instructions for finalizing the loan docs. I walked in and was not greeted by any, just stares. I advised I was there to open an account and they asked if I had an appointment which I did. The manager Chr*st*ph*r started to ask other employees if they could help me and for some reason it seemed like everyone was hesitant for whatever reason so the manager went on to help me. The vibe was very off the moment I walked through the doors. Seems like I was very much being profiled for whatever reason but I going to hope it was not because of race or ethnicity. I can't see why else I would be profiled though. Customer service was not good at all and was not a good experience. I ended up leaving and not opening an account because I could not imagine opening an account with a company and getting treated like that with a company I'm trusting my money with. read more

This month, I decided to refinance my car with the C/U because of the great rate they currently had. After I had submitted my application online (which was very easy) I was contacted by phone and email by Dalila Calloway, Senior Loan Consultant. Dalila's customer service is extraordinary. That is the best way I could describe how she handled the transaction. 1st United Credit Union is a very outdated business. Loan rates are not bad, but service is incredibly slow and terrible. Their bigger competitors crush them in terms of service, response time, and speed and certainty of closure. Also, we have worked with another credit union in the past and they were far superior to 1st United. I would not rely solely on this bank for any financing. You need to have other options because 1st United moves way too slow and is unreliable. read more

Last Oct 4, 2025 the cu had my car towed to Reno, NV in the middle of the night. I was getting ready to go to work when my car was gone. I thought the car was stolen. I looked around in the parking lot & could not find my car, so I called 911. They said my car was towed & to call the credit union. It was a weekend & the cu is closed. I have to wait till Monday to call them. No one seems to know what is happening. I did not get an answer till the following day. They won't tell me where they towed my car till I called the Carson City police in Nevada where I lived. I just found out that if a car is towed the police have to know. I don't bank with 1st United nor will I ever do. When I 1st bought my car the dealer suggested 1st United cu. I took the dealer's suggestion because I planned to go to the women's world cup in Vancouver, Canada which is happening summer of 2015. I finished paying my car last July 2022. Monica Tinsley- Smith sent me a balance of $3,176.86 for default & lack of insurance. I sent the cu a letter from my AAA agent but they ignored that. I did not default on my car payments. I have all the receipts & papers. During the year 2015 thru 2021 the cu was constantly calling & sending letters of non-payment & proof of insurance. They constantly harassed me. I sent letters to Better Business Bureau, National Credit Union Association, Consumer Affair & FTC. I had to pay $4,845.20 to pick up my car. That does not include the pain, anger, discontent, annoyance & around $500 to get a ride back & forth to get money to pick up my car. I am retired & living on social security. My car is the only possession I own. read more

This review is not about a particular branch, just my experience with 1st United Credit Union as my loan provider for a new vehicle purchase. My experience has been horrible. The payment options available for the loan were slow and archaic, especially considering much faster options available with other financial instituitions. My only option to make fast payments to them was to have another account opened with them to pay the loan from, thus giving them even more of my finances to hold hostage. I had multiple issues with getting them the proof of insurance. Despite having had sent proof multiple times, I kept recieving notices that they had not received it and would charge me for their own insurance. I opted to refinance with a different instituion over dealing with 1st United. A couple weeks after closing the loan with them, they charged me for insurance anyways. Despite never having a lapse in my coverage and the loan no longer being held by them. I reached out for assitance via their preferred chat method, and the only guidance they provided was to send snail mail. I was able to get some information to settle this after calling them directly, but was told it will take a minimum of 2 weeks to resolve this issue. Among the WORST experience with a financial institution I have had. If you are a current customer with them and have had a positive experience, thats great. However, I urge you to exercise caution and consider all banking options if you are considering 1st United. read more

They have excellent customer service and are quick to respond to my inquiries. I do have a major issue with the requirement that my car insurance can only have a maximum of $1000 on the comp/collision deductible. This has nothing to do with my loan and has nothing to do with me paying my insurance company should there be any claims. Two separate organizations. Then they wanted to add some CPI charge of $130 to my car loan. Remember, this has nothing to do with my car loan. I've always had insurance for my vehicles and have never had any financial institution come up with this ridiculous requirement. I will definitely be looking for a different loan company. read more

Now, Jacquline Safford, at the pleasanton branch gave the greatest financial customer service we have ever received (20 plus years and counting!).! We walked into the bank to close our account, as it was dormant (opened about 12 years ago when we purchased a car through their finance department and we had paid it off in full years ago) and we walked out keeping the account and opening up another not because we got suckered into it, but because she met us at our financial point of need! She is very knowledgeable and her personality is seriously commendable! You don't receive such treatment these days except you are dealing with 6 or 7 figures in thousands for a basic account! She placed us in an account that met our need and never tried to upsell anything, no selfish motives at all! She treated us as people and not as numbers! After waiting 4-5 months for a modification to a home equity line of credit, their involvement got the ball rolling and it was completed in a matter of days. Obviously begs the question, what was the hold up? Checked my account online, the new interest rate is displayed, but not the promotional rate which is supposed to run for eighteen months. I'll be able to check the actual rate I'm being charged when my next statement arrives. Anyway, it's unfortunate I had to leave a negative review to get my modification completed, but it is good to see the response it elicited. read more

There was a young lady at the raffle table who helped us enter the raffle and spin the wheel for gifts, I didn't get her name but this'll young lady had such great energy.
