Teepee home for the night.
Kevin H.

We knew we wouldn't arrive until about midnight so we called ahead. They said no problem, and to just stop in the next morning. We stayed in a tepee rather than set up our tent. It was cozy and authentic, though a flap to close the entrance would have been nice (we used our own blankets), and the floor could have been leveled a bit better before putting down the AstroTurf. Road noise was annoying, and is the main reason I am taking off one star. Some trees would look nice and would help the noise too. Bathrooms were VERY clean, but wife and I didn't use the showers, so I can't comment on the hot water. Also, I didn't look closely, but I don't recall seeing potable water anywhere, however, there were garbage cans outside both bathrooms, so some of the issues have apparently been resolved since the 2009 review. I would go back because the rates were reasonable (18 tent, 22 teepee), the management was nice, and the access was really easy.

Lewis & Clark Caverns - Bison burger

My friend Laura and I had the best time here today. She's lived here for like 15 years and had…read morenever been nor had I. Our tour guide was Christopher and he was just the BEST. He had an amazing knowledge of the caves and their history. We also enjoyed the gift shop and the restaurant after. We were starving from our cave exploration so the Bison burger hit just right!! Yum! We both expressed that we think our kids would also love the caves!! This is a gorgeous hour drive from Bozeman that I also thoroughly enjoyed.

I had no idea what to expect when I was on a road trip and my travel partner had booked us a tour…read moreof the Lewis and Clark Caverns. I knew I was in for a hike, but that's about all I knew. I was absolutely blown away with this magnificent experience! We hiked about a mile up to the cavern entrance. It was a steady incline and almost all in the sun, so come prepared for that. Sunscreen and a water bottle would be wise. By the time you get to the top, you're pretty toasty warm-and then you can cool off in the cold, dark cave. The cave/cavern (what's the difference?) is truly remarkable. Nature can be awe inspiring and what you see inside this mountain is a perfect example of nature's masterpiece. Be respectful and don't touch anything you're not supposed to touch. This isn't a horribly physical excursion, although there's a good amount of stairs, narrow spaces and even one area where you slide down on your bum. People who have any mobility limitations might struggle with this one-although I did overhear that there's an alternate tour for folks who might need accommodations, so ask about that. This was likely my favorite part of the road trip-even more memorable than Yellowstone! (Sssshhhh, don't get me in trouble for saying that.)

Overall I'd say the camp ground is just okay. It certainly filled our needs as we were heading back…read moreto Idaho, but wanted to stop and explore Butte on the way. The view from the back row is amazing. There are very few trees or grass and it gets pretty hot during the day. The entire park is gravel and the spots are relatively level. There is a laundry facility, bathrooms and showers, which were all nice. The hot springs resort is close by and the pools were very nice, but that is a separate charge and they're not connected to the park. But you will get a discount ticket upon checkin. However, we got off to a rocky start with our group of four campers when we checked in. We had booked four beautiful spots in the back row in "January" and even paid the $10 lock fee. We had hoped to spend the last two nights as a group enjoying the beauty. This was the last stop of our crews 12 day camping trip. As we checked in, we were told by the young lady at the counter that we had been separated. Since I had made the reservations, I stepped up to question the girl as to why we were moved. At this time, Dan (owner) stepped up and got a little snotty with us and said that he moved us and we don't need to harass his employee. He explained that two of our group was moved due to a pipeline crew staying longer bc their job wasn't complete. His attitude didn't get any better and he gave us back out $10 lock fees. I understand his reasoning for moving us, but we should have been advised prior to arriving and we could have went somewhere else if we chose to do so. But what good is a lock fee if it doesn't really work. Dan did come by later and made peace with us which was appreciated. His attitude seemed to change for the better. Overall we had a good time but only wished we could have been together as booked. Having group dinners was a little more of a challenge, but we made it work.
