Meadow Brook Hall was the last house I toured with my parents over our long weekend in Detroit…read more It's a Tudor Revival house built for the heiress to the Dodge fortune (Matilda Dodge Wilson), her second husband, and their children. Covering 88,000 square feet and with 110 rooms, the house is worth a tour. The architecture and design looks old English Tudor but almost all of the work was done by American craftsman (a different take than some other homes in the area which incorporated pieces of English manors that date back to those period and which the families needed to sell in the 20th century). We took a guided tour of the house on a Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't crowded (only a few other people on our tour). I think the home may be more popular as the wedding venue than a historic house to tour (perhaps because - in Rochester Hills - it's a bit of a hike from Detroit). Our tour guide was wonderful, informative and friendly. She wanted us to learn as much as we could and tried to get through as much of the story and the house as possible in the time allotted for our tour. Homes this size often have grounds that require as long to tour as the home itself. Unless we missed something, Meadow Brook Hall doesn't have that. We toured the house, walked over to a few exterior buildings (children's playhouses), and visited the gift shop. In that way, it isn't quite as an exciting home to tour as some others I've been to. But I really loved learning about the house, the Dodge family, and Matilda Dodge Wilson. If you have enough time to venture this far from Detroit, it's worth a visit, but I don't think it's as much of a must visit as some other historic properties in or closer to Detroit.

It also came with a small side of mashed potatoes and green beans admittedly I ate everything and I did not feel stuffed but very full. The zip sauce was also pretty good. I also had a couple spoons of the minestrone and that was pretty good too. Our waitress Adrian was super sweet. The place did seem a little rundown in areas. But the booths were in good shape along with the tables. Service was not great in the beginning. There was one server and one bartender when we got there. We sat at our table for at least 20 to 30 minutes without anyone ever coming by our table. Which wasn't the greatest when you're trying to entertain an almost 2-year-old. There had to be at least 40+ people dining at the restaurant. My husband tried to order at the bar and we were turned away and said a server would be at our table. Noticed eventually that one of the cooks came out to start taking orders, and another person showed up to help. Once our server came to us, she apologized for the wait and everything from thereafter was great. The menu has a little bit of everything. Some small plates and main entrées. Our appetizers came out in about 15 minutes. Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, meatball, and crabcakes. Everything was absolutely delicious! My only complaint was the crabcake should've been served with a lemon wedge. The fries were absolutely delicious. Had a good crunch on them and they were crispy. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. It is geared towards women and nonbinary individuals and created a safe and supportive environment for them to grow their dreams and aspirations in, but it is open to any and all who want to check it out! Anyone can have access to the main floor of BasBlue, where there is an INCREDIBLE cafe to get delicious drinks and food from. There is also a ton of seating for you to enjoy your food and drink and to cowork from as well. If you want to become a member, the upper floors are open to you with more collaborative and private spaces for you to enjoy! It is a non-profit organization and just a gloriously safe and intentionally-curated space to foster creativity and amazing vibes. I always feel so at peace and centered when I'm at BasBlue and love to take meetings from here as often as I can! It's located very close to the DIA, but only open during the weekdays. So pay attention to their hours and if you're looking for a great place to work from or are interested in learning more about what a membership here could bring, definitely check BasBlue out!!

This is a very nicely renovated mansion turned into a woman's club. Like a late 1800's gentleman's club, only for women. There is a locker room/workout room/nursing area, but I did not see them because I am not a woman. They have lectures and groups within the club. They have a full kitchen, and the usual food on offer seemed like you would expect at a starbucks or better. They have drinks, coffee, and wine. The wine was higher end. And they use an ordering app so members at different rooms of the club can order easily. Lots of rooms. Dining and lecture rooms, lounge and club type rooms, conference rooms. A large event room. All really nice. There are smaller serving bars on the second and third floors. Depending on age, annual membership is 600 or 1200 dollars. It looked great. Maybe it could have used more restrooms, but that is sort of reaching for something negative to say.
