Chris, the owner, called us, paying/repeat customers "assholes", "losers" and "annoying". This was after his guys left 40 min early, before the job we paid for was done. The worst display of customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I am mind blown that a business owner would call his paying customers these names after simply and kindly trying to resolve a discrepancy with him. I am NOT satistied with the service. I was supposedly offered a 20% discount as a student but the overall price was still much higher than what they advertise online ("2-Stud Crew: $80/hr + $40 Flat Travel Fee"). They agreed to a flat-rate but afterwards directly asked for $60 to cover the extra time. Many bottles and glassware were broken, and the corridor is still sticky three days after. We hired them for a local move which was only a couple of blocks away. The original time was scheduled at 11 am but the guys only reached us at 1:30. This could be due to a lot of jobs but that did nevertheless affected our schedule a bit. But once they arrived, they were at it. The two studs who helped us move were Troy and Brandon. Both were freindly to talk to and did whatever we asked off them. Troy was the guy who was dismantling stuff and he also helped us fixing our dining table. Brandon was meanwhile loading the boxes and all other stuff. They made sure that they didn't waste any time and were at the job completely focused. The move was completely stress and hassle free and there was no damage to any of our furniture. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the delay in arrival. We had a really, really TERRIBLE experience with these guys, which surprised me due to the generally very positive reviews. I summarized our experience below and also added screenshots with the owner chris, since I'm sure he will respond below denying it in some way. Tldr of the story: they kept us waiting for 6 hours and then bailed on us completely. The tldr of the situation is that I called them 2 weeks before the move and they said they could only do 7:30 am on the Sunday we wanted to move. We said sure. The day of the move we were kind of sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for them with all our boxes packed and after a while I called and they said they were just finishing up another job and would be there soon. They weren't. An hour later I called again and they said they were "right around the corner." Another hour passed and they were not there. THIS WENT ON FOR 6 HOURS. Finally he texted saying his crew had just quit on him and that they wouldn't be showing up. He offered a refund, which is great I'm glad he did, but that didn't exactly offset the fact that we had waited 6 hours for them on the one day we could all be free to do so, and then they bailed on us completely and left us to figure it out starting late afternoon, with all of us having to work the next day. My roommates also left reviews which he responded to calling them "not real customers" which is...false since it was a 4 bedroom apartment move. If you need a couple of strong kids with a truck to haul your stuff around, these guys are fine. But if you care about your furniture and need an experienced professional, go anywhere else. In the first place, the owner, Chris, tried to upsell me into adding another man to the crew, which I wisely refused. The problem wasn't the number of people, it was the number of trucks. They grossly underestimated the number and size of the trucks they would need. And though I had already planned to rent my own truck to haul miscellaneous stuff after they were done, I had no idea that I would need to make four additional trips on my own the weekend after my "move." More importantly, the crew assigned to my job was clueless. The young men were very courteous (though they arrived 45 minutes late to start), but none of them had any experience. For example, I had to explain to them they they couldn't stack our dining room chairs like cafeteria chairs, but that your could carry two at a time by inverting them. They also decided to move our upright piano by simply rolling it across the hardwood floor without any lifting or support, leaving a gouge in the floor along their path to the door. Of course, by the time our quality furniture finally made it into our new home only 15 miles away, several pieces were nicked and chipped. The crew had no idea how to wrap and protect furniture as they packed their trucks. And it's not like I chose the least expensive option out there. I actually chose to spend a bit more per hour for these guys because they came recommended by my flooring company and I thought the extra money would be worth it. Fantastic service! Chris, the owner, was quick to respond to emails. In addition because we were only moving 2 blocks away he gave us a generous discount. Clearly, their customer service is top notch and they are willing to work with you to find a fair deal. My wife and I moved apartments this weekend. Carlos and David arrived early and made the moving process seamless. Unfortunately the elevator in the building we were moving to broke and they had to carry everything up 4 flights of stairs. We felt horrible about this, but to their credit they were real sports about it. They neither complained nor moaned about having to do extra heavy lifting. At the end of it, they did not even ask for a tip. We had to stop them before they left in order to give them their much deserved tip. I would like to give a shout out to Chris and specially the two crew members, Angelo and Juan who helped us with the move. Chris responded very quickly to my request for a move and accommodated me within a very short notice and connected me with the crew. Angelo and Juan messaged to get the co-ordinates arrived soon after. They assessed the work load and immediately got to work. They were very patient is wrapping the fragile items and the disassembly of the couch and other items that needed attention. After they loaded everything in the truck, they drove to the new location and was in touch with me throughout the drive. It was a very chilly and rainy day, but they got the job done. When I called Chris to inquire about his services, he was a nice helpful salesman . He made great suggestions and tried to make my move as carefree as possible. Have him a deposit that day and asked for a contract by email. He totally agreed. I was looking for a pod service, because the were a few days between moving out and moving in. Chris told me he had storage containers available. I could rent them for 2 hundred a piece. I liked that idea because the last thing I wanted to do was put my furniture in storage. I did NOT want the extra handling of my possessions to be taken off the truck and put on an extra time. He promised me the containers would work perfectly for me. Two days later I called Chris again because u did not receive a contract. He said he was very busy this time of year and was way behind on his emails. I never received one. The day of the move I was scheduled for noon. At 12:45 I got a call they were on their way, but the truck that handles the containers was broke. They were going to bring trucks and then store my furniture in a wear house. Exactly what I didn't want. The fellows FINALLY showed up at 2:00 pm. Then unpacking day finally came. I called to confirm and Chris had me scheduled for 8:00 am. I don't book AMYTHING for that early. But, no contract. So my belongings were unloaded. But my end tables came in with huge nicks of paint missing. My leather chair had a L rip in it. My bench was gouged in the top and had scratches on the side. I heard from Chris today. I was so very happy that 5 months later he called to rectify our situation. He did apologize for taking so long to get back to me He offered me compensation for my damages. He could not refund my credit card because the appropriate time had elapsed. He came to my home to drop the check. He had written in the Check that "by cashing it, I agree to remove my negative post. "I wasn't comfortable with removing the post, because everything i posted had happened. I told him how i felt, and that i would add to my original post. But I was not comfortable removing the post. I thought Chris was compensating me for my damaged furniture, but HE made it perfectly clear he was offering me a bribe to remove my original post. Speaking w Chris from 2 Young Studs led me to book them. He was prompt in replying to my inquiry, and worked with me on the fact I was only moving my studio just 2 blocks away so the price was reasonable. My movers Carlos and David were great - they came right on time / a little early for my Sunday move and got started right away. Unfortunately, our elevators were broken in the new apartment (they broke 1.5 days before because someone else who was moving jammed them, and they were fixed the day after we moved, but what can you do?). I didn't see any damages to any of my furniture, and they used wrapping and blankets. The only change I wished was them wrapping my mattress as it got a little dirty/dusty from the moving, but overall they were careful with my furniture. We had to go over time because of the broken elevator, but they were hard working and didn't sit around. We paid the extra time on a pro-rated basis, and I felt the time was reasonable. I really appreciate the fact they didn't insist/demand tips ( a huge pet peeve) and they were very polite (they asked if they could have a seat on my chair after hours of moving, and I said of course!). The two "studs" who came for my move, Logan and Maurice, were outstanding! Although they were about 20 minutes late, they were extremely informative via phone to let me know they were on the way. As far as the moving process: Logan and Maurice were extremely quick without being haphazard. The items from my apartment, including furniture, were neatly and efficiently loaded and stored in the truck. Logan and Maurice had to climb three flights of stairs to unload, and did an amazing job doing so! They seamlessly carried and navigated heavy furniture through awkward corners and placing it in my new apartment. Throughout the entire unloading process, Logan and Maurice were extremely considerate and asked me questions about where to place furniture. In the end, I was able to pay with a credit card by speaking with Chris, the company's owner, on the phone. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a local or interstate move! They are not professional movers and have no clue how to move things properly. The movers who came from 2 Young Studs when I used them told me that they had to leave in the middle of the job. They took so long that their shift ended and other movers had to come in, making the job last 2 days to move across town. This, after I had moved from a city 4 hours away in 1/2 the time that these guys took because I hired great movers in that city. Please don't use them. Though they warned me that I would need to rent the truck, they did not bring the pads that movers normally have, putting all my items in danger, and they did not understand how to take apart larger pieces of furniture like a bed to make them easier to move. They are in way over their heads. They should produce more truth in advertizing -- "we are not a professional moving company and if you have a house that you are moving (even a small one), please don't use us." "We are only for college kids who have nothing of value." The owner gave me some discount for the trouble, but then when I tried to give a bad review, he called and bullied me on the phone. Chris was rude, he didn't return my calls until the next business day! My uncle just died, we have to move his things ASAP, I assumed I had called a business with a business phone and a business location, I left a message earlier in the am to see if I could still book with Chris even though he hadn't returned my call before business close the day before, the next day he yelled at me on the phone that I had called his cell phone while he's on vacation early in the morning, how am I supposed to know he is on vacation and his business # is his cell phone, and that there isn't an actual office of office phone #! Here's the deal -- these guys are filling a need in the marketplace for something short of a professional moving company (and the costs associated with them). As long as you understand that going in, you are a little more likely to not be disappointed. That said, there are a number of ways in which this service falls short. First and foremost, as mentioned by many others, I simply couldn't reach anyone by phone or get a reply to an email with a simple question I had after I made the booking. The question required a yes or no answer -- I understand you are busy, but really, you can't take 10 seconds to reply "yes" or "no"? The day of the move I was finally contacted -- to be asked if they could come two hours later than scheduled (we grudgingly agreed). On the positive side, the young studs were nice fellows and did a decent job. I say decent because they clearly aren't professional movers. They brought no equipment whatsoever, so while it wasn't essential to our move, it might have helped them out. They had a heck of a time moving our sofa, removing a plastic cover we had placed on it which they felt was hindering them, and then having to put it down on its side at one point outside our residence, which wasn't exactly great. They also left some scratches on a door. But, they had a good attitude, worked fairly quickly, and didn't break anything. Also as mentioned by some others, the payment system is not explained well. You pay a deposit through Paypal, but then you have to pay the balance via cash or check to the studs. To make matters worse, there was some confusion about whether the deposit should be deducted from the total balance or not and the studs had to place a few calls to find out. Also, when I booked online, it clearly said the "transportation fee", the $40 or so to cover their transit to your location, would be waived, but no such thing happened for us. Due to "moving fatigue", I decided not to argue about it. I am also not crazy about their booking system. They use a Google calendar to show availability, which seems a bit low-tech, but moreso, they list your first name and town on this public calendar. Maybe not the biggest deal in the world, especially if you're "John from New Haven" or something fairly anonymous, but I don't necessarily want my personal business out there for people to see. So overall, I'd say this -- if you've got a smaller move and you don't have very high value furniture and other belongings, and you just want some muscle to save yourself some effort, Studs Moving is a decent solution. On the other hand, if you've got a sizable move (especially if you're moving appliances and/or bulky items), better quality furnishings, or are on a time-sensitive move, I don't think this is the right service for you. If the business side of this operation was stronger, I would feel better about recommending it. read more

When my husband and I moved, we could have gotten our own Uhaul and did it ourselves, but we are lazy and also needed some extra hands. I used these movers about a year ago- and I'm still annoyed when I think about the experience. 1) it ended up costing me a few hundred dollars more than my original quote-due to the time it took the movers. I likely would have been better off paying for a 3rd mover than the extra hours it took for the guys who came I clearly told whomever I spoke to when I booked that I was downsizing, had about 1 bedroom and living space worth of stuff to be moved to a 3rd floor walk up. 2) payment of cash or check only at the time of the move was never explained- and what a surprise especially after finding out I had to pay an extra few hundred. 3)they couldn't fit my standard queen sized box spring up the stairwell; subsequently I had to figure out a way to have someone come pick it up. When talking to my landlord about my woes on moving day he told me when he lived in the apartment previously he got a Q size box spring up the stairwell by himself without issue. My moving experience could not have been better. I was moving a two bedroom apartment from New Haven to Brooklyn, with a stop in Brooklyn to pick up my girlfriend's things at her studio also in Brooklyn. Chris was very accommodating and responded to my anxious check-in calls with enormous patience. On the day, Charles and Jeremy called ahead of time, arrived right on time (7am), and were extremely good movers. When we arrived, the new apartment was still being cleaned and painted, so Charles and Jeremy waited for several hours before they could move everything in. I had a great moving experience with 2 Young Studs. I hired a 2-stud crew to help load a U-Haul truck for a 1-BR apartment move from New Haven to Philly. The 2 movers were not only on time--they were early (and kindly called first to ask if it was okay to arrive early)! They were efficient, careful even with my Ikea furniture, friendly, and polite. They worked hard, finished early, and did a fabulous job. It couldn't have gone more smoothly. It was also a piece of cake to schedule the actual move. The owner of this company 2 Young Studs Moving Company Chris did a phone estimate of a potential move. We had no verbal or written contract, and I agreed to give him a deposit. That day Chris charged me twice for the deposit. Shortly thereafter I wanted to cancel my move and he said he would not refund my deposit. He than called and texted me multiple times saying that's now how you handle business. I am currently still disputing with my bank for a refund. I am 100% sure this cheap skate keeps denying the refund with my bank. He may be cheap in price, however what he did with me is unethical and more than likely illegal. read more

Having just found the owners response to my honest review, it should be obvious what an arrogant, maniacal twit he is. Everything he said about me is pure nonsense and an attack on me personally. I NEVER received any paperwork, neither prior to the move which I booked on the phone with him personally, nor afterwards. Chris did agree to reimbursement, which I've already received. But he only agreed to it once I had updated my reviews, which was all he cared about. He also texted, called, threatened me and demanded I do so, which had no effect on me and in itself, drove him crazy. He's a malicious, insecure little man who thinks he can bully people and instructed his employees ( who think very little of him and told me how he makes a habit of screwing customers out of money,) to lie about when I was given the contract. He's now fabricating stories in order to distract from the fact that he's an irresponsible and unprofessional business owner. This site and others like it, are so that customers can provide honest feedback to both other customers and to business owners. We used 2 Young Studs Movers in September of 2009 to move my elderly mother-in-law from Hamden, CT to Nashua, NH. They only did the move, we did all the packing. Their price was competitive--I cannot recall the amount now, but we felt it was fair. They answered our email and phone calls promptly. On the moving day they showed up on time. Two young men packed the truck and then directly drove it to New Hampshire and unloaded it at two locations. In both locations they had to carry everything up two flights of stairs. They were careful with her possessions and did not run into walls at our home. The workers were very nice to my mother-in-law, who was both hard of hearing and had some dementia. They answered her same question over and over again, while treating her with dignity. They even let us take her picture with them in front of their truck. It made for a very cute picture in her Christmas card. I have since used other movers for another move and only wish that I could have used 2 Young Studs. It's hard to pick a rating for this company. If I could give the movers themselves a review, it would be a 4/5, but Chris, the owner, gets no stars at all. The man is a hothead who rarely answers the phone (unless it's payment time), cuts you off, yells, and worse according to other reviews. If you're booking with this company, you should take seriously the part of their site that says they don't guarantee a moving time, which I assumed meant they might be half an hour or an hour late. In fact, they were four and a half hours late because they decided to schedule another move before mine, which they didn't tell me until after my move was supposed to start. I had specifically requested a morning move, and was supposed to begin at 7am and be done by noon, which turned into not being done until 5:30pm. As with other reviewers, Chris responded super negatively on the phone to complaints and started talking about how he was short staffed and how "if he could force his men to kill themselves to get more moves done, he would," which I don't think is quite the take he thinks it is. The problem wasn't the movers not working hard, it was Chris's complete failure to communicate and schedule properly, and to take any sort of responsibility for things going badly. I am not the one to really write bad reviews becuase I have always believed in the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything" first of all I made an appointment with Chris to have my stuffs moved from one single bedroom apartment to another, next town over . Christ assured me that based on my discriptkon of the items I had in my apartment it wouldn't take more than 4 hours and that all I needed were two guys. The two guys showed up on time very nice hard working courteous folks, but something that was supposed to take 4 hours ended up taking well over 7 hours. A $300 moving ended up costing me well over 700. Please do your research before you give the manager Chris a call. (move from West Haven, CT to New Haven, CT in autumn of 2014.) My mother had sold her home and was moving to an apartment, and we couldn't move her ourselves because the complex required an insurance certificate. We called 2 Young Studs, because I liked the name. That was the only good thing about this company. My mom's building doesn't accommodate movers mid-afternoon; those doors were needed for deliveries. We reserved the elevator and hired the movers for 1:00. Confirmed in writing, via email, with the company. THEY. FORGOT. HER. She and my husband waited at the designated time, then tried to cut them a little slack since the time was confirmed. They couldn't go out for lunch because the movers might show up. No food hanging around; she was moving. They had no choice but to sit. TV and computer were packed, so my husband found a crossword puzzle and my mom unpacked a book to read. And they waited. I called after a few hours had passed. The man who answered the phone victim-blamed that she should have called sooner, rather than, oh, I don't know, apologizing... He reluctantly sent people when he found the contract and THEIR confirmation. The movers showed up well after 1:00 p.m. They got her stuff out of the house, but missed the window at the apartment building in which they could use the elevator, and couldn't bring most of it up to her apartment. They took it with their truck with plans to be back and unloaded before 8:00 p.m. My husband, who'd taken the day off from work in case she needed him, sat with her at her new place for HOURS; they were supposed to come back early evening. When they hadn't arrived by 8:00, I made another call and they were "just leaving." My mom's bed was with THEM and she wanted to spend the night in her new apartment. By this time, I had joined my husband. My mom, at the time, was 74 and just wanted to go to BED. Her bed was in the truck, of course. They showed up close to 10:00 p.m. * *My husband and I helped unload the moving truck.* * I'm not kidding. At this point, we didn't care that these dopey guys had been paid; we just wanted to take care of my mom. They didn't even have screwdrivers. Since they had unscrewed mirrors from vanities for moving, one would have expected that movers carried them. We had to unpack my mom's lamps to see, then dug out *her* screwdrivers.... I went to my mom's new apartment for coffee the following morning. We found a fresh chip in my Grandma's end table. My husband and I should have charged them half the hourly rate for our time spent waiting, and for the full hour that WE unloaded the moving truck. We hired these people to perform a service for us, in exchange for currency. Asking a paid employee to show up at a committed time shouldn't be too much to expect. read more

Horribly run company. After booking a time window, the truck showed up 4 hours late. That's right...4 hours past the window. Ruined the entire day. I had to dismiss the movers early because I had to leave to pick up my children...then ended up having to rent a van the following day to complete my move. The worst part was when I reached out to the owner, he was unbelievably rude and told me I should have read the fine print of their terms and conditions more closely...which I did and it states they might be up to two hours late...not four. At which point the owner said it wasn't his fault because it was raining that day. Um, what? Worst customer experience ever. Don't chance your move with this company...go elsewhere. read more

Another AMAZING experience by the Studs! This is my 2nd move they have done and it went so smoothy and fast. I was shocked how fast these guys move, especially up 2 flights of stairs. They are very hardworking and I kept giving them water because they just kept going!! When booking, Chris was very attentive to what we needed since we were moving from a multi person apartment to a 1 bedroom. My sister is about to move into her new house and I am DEFINITELY going to have her use Chris and his studs! Sucks that Yelp keeps messing with their reviews so newcomers can't see how great these guys are. I recommend them for moving, especially if you have delicate things. Great moving company! They were an hour late, but they kept me informed of this by text and phone calls. No damages to anything of mine, and no missing items. Last company I used to move across country "misplaced" many items. This company did not which made me regain trust in moving companies. If I have to move again locally I will contact them. Referred them to my friend as well! Definitely recommend!! read more
