The prices are more than the mall or a big box, but the service is so good, and the final product is precise and totally customized. I had the original receipt which states a 30 day return policy. The 30 day return policy is also displayed in multiple places on the counter. The cashier refused the return. She claimed they now had a two week return policy, but was unable to show me any documentation of where this was stated. She later admitted that the return policy was 30 days but that I was close enough to the return date that she wasn't going to accept the return. 6/17-7/8 is 22 days. I'm still a bit shocked by this conversation, I was really discussing with another gainfully employed, articulate adult, the definition of the number 30. One of those "is this real?" moments. The cashier elaborated that she believed that she believed people wear the sunglasses and return them used and unsellable within the return policy window, insinuating that she believes that this is what I was doing. She did not look at the sunglasses I was attempting to return before making this statement. They were, in fact, unused. For this reason I believe she was discriminating based on my appearance. Regardless, even if people do wear the sunglasses and return them with the 30 day window, the company policy is to accept the return within 30 days, so this would be a moot point. I would just go there to try sunglasses on if absolutely necessary, but never purchase from them.

I was looking for a pair of glasses, and was told this place was pretty good. I should have checked my source first. Some people love having their ass kissed, even if it is in an obviously fake way (which there's nothing wrong with that), but I'm more of a "if you come at me, come at me real" kind of guy. I just wanted a pair of glasses that I liked, that worked, and that weren't too expensive. The people there are nice, don't get me wrong, but I don't need you to tell me how the glasses make me look like a model in order for me to buy them. I don't know if they work on commission or not, but they seem to act like it. They push themselves on you pretty hard. You can't just look around. They follow you around telling you shit that doesn't matter, like what famous person wears what (also not a selling point for me, but if it is for you, then you've found your place). When I finally found a frame I liked, the total was going to be like $600. I said I wanted to think about it, because it was a little higher than what I was going for. They then said they'd give me a $100 discount. So I said OK. Then the owner started telling me things I'd get with it that seemed unnecessary. When I asked him if those things cost more, he looked a little shocked, like he knew he just shot himself in the foot. He stumbled his words and said, "Yeah a little bit, but not very much." When I asked him exactly how much more, he said, "$80". I was like, "That's not a little extra. $20 is a little extra. I don't need that stuff." He seemed disappointed and walked away, but it brought my total down to a little over $400. So they took $231.50 of the payment as a depsoit, and I was to pay the rest when I picked up my glasses. So I had my eye exam which was $105. I thought it was strange, but I was told it was part of the total when I originally bought the glasses. Then when I picked up my glasses, they charged me another $231.50. They said the exam wasn't included in the total, which was not what I was told in the beginning. So, in the end, I paid $568 for glasses that I was told would be $100 less than that. Honestly, you're better off going to Lenscrafters, which is what I should have done in the first place. My sister-in-law went there a couple of weeks after I bought my glasses and asked me to come along for my opinion. Not only were the people very nice, but they were very chill. They came up to us in the beginning and said, "Just let us know if you need help with anything." Then they backed off. They didn't follow us around the store. They didn't pressure us to make a purchase. It was nice. Not only did I find a pair of Ray-Ban glasses that I liked better, but they would have cost me $300 less than what I paid for my glasses at 20/20. I was bummed, but at least my sister-in-law got a good pair from Lenscrafters. No sense in both of us getting ripped off. read more

20/20 Optical is 5 + stars in professionalism, customer service, satisfaction and selection. I just happened upon the manufacturer's show in April while attending another function in the hotel. Having gotten my first prescription ever, I was somewhat overwhelmed, didn't know what style of frame looked best for my face, what lens to look at for progressives etc. David, the owner, was attentive, really listened, and found the exact right frame/lens combination for me. When I went to pick them up I met Diane, the top notch sales associate, who assisted with the fitting and when I asked about sunglasses, was able to offer me a very reasonable price. She also graciously assisted my son with his sun-glass repair/ adjustments complimentary. I loved everything about the glasses, they were/are truly works of art. However, after a week of using them on the job on the computer, I realized that progressives didn't work for me. I couldn't see the whole computer screen in one glance. I went back to see David and requested he change out the progressive lens for computer lens only. He was reluctant to do so, not wanting to change the progressive script that he knew I needed for everyday wear. I told him I needed the computer lens more, that I loved the frames and requested again that he change them out. Instead, David totally amazed me by offering to make a pair of computer glasses at no charge to me. He offered me a variety of really beautiful frames/lens and true to his word, provided them to me at no charge. This went above and beyond in customer service and professional integrity. I was already sold on 20/20 Optical based on my initial experience. Now I am a customer for life, as is my son. I've told everyone at work, and two people have already gone in and had very positive experiences as well. All small businesses could model their customer service and professionalism after David's 20/20 Optical. read more

As a person who is always on my computer and other technology devices, I've started to worry more about my eye health recently. I've never had my eyes checked before, so I finally decided to schedule my first eye exam at 20/20 Optical, and it was truly the best decision I could've made. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly and felt completely at ease. Dr. Ong was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. She walked me through every step of the eye exam, explained the results in a way I could easily understand, and even gave me helpful advice for protecting my eyes from screen time. It felt like a real, personalized care and not a rushed appointment. Then came the fun part which was choosing my first pair of glasses. I had no idea where to start, but Collin and the rest of the team made it effortless. They took the time to find frames that fit my face perfectly and matched my style, then added blue light blocking lenses to protect my eyes. David's expertise made me feel completely confident that I was being taken care of. He double-checked every detail to make sure my glasses would be perfect, the prescription, the lenses, and the frame. And the best part is, they were ready the next day! Bottom line, if you're looking for personalized customer service and an excellent selection of quality frames, this is the place. I was overdue for an eye exam, and knew I needed new glasses, but dreaded the thought of having to go through the process of picking out new frames. I never look forward to choosing frames for myself; the drawerful I keep of past near misses and unmitigated klunkers attests to that. David met me as soon as I completed the eye exam and presented me with five or six different frames to look at. At first glance I thought there might be one or two that would work, but the rest didn't appear right for me. To my surprise, after trying all of them on I thought they all looked good, and would have been happy with any one them. David went over the pluses and minuses of each in terms of fit and appearance and one stood out, which is the one I chose, and I couldn't be happier. I also decided to go with a pair of sunglasses this time, as well, and the process was the same with the same great result. David's years of experience, his sense of style, and his unerring ability to discern what looks and works best made what I dreaded doing absolutely effortless. I can see clearly now!! I went to 20/20 Optical with good quality prescription Zeiss lens. Lens that I bought through a high-end optical shop out of state. Lens installed at the Zeiss plant. BUT - I could not see properly with them - even though they were the correct prescription. David at 20/20 Optical listened to my concerns and then took allot of measurements - twice, just to make sure. My vision - with my new lens - is now great! I drove from the East Bay to Marin to go to 20/20 Optical because they have their own lab (no need to send my frames off-site) and because, over the phone, I could tell David knows his stuff and could help me find a solution. It was worth the trip! Kudos also to Cal Optometry for confirming that the lens were the problem - not my eyes....though Cal could not tell me what the problem was with the lens (20/20 found the problem). 20/20 also has a great selection of frames and I will be going back to buy some new frames. No, they are not deep discount frames, remainders of stuff that never sold, they have high quality and very fashionable frames. If you like Costco and Walmart, this shop may not be for you. For a long time I was resistive to the idea of getting progressive lenses, so this meant constant fumbling between reading glasses for close-up vision and different lenses for viewing things at more of a distance. Although I was very concerned that at my late age (almost 60), i would never be able to adjust to using them, this year I decided to "take the leap" and had a pair of progressives made by 20/20. David was very helpful in selecting appropriate frames and in explaining the technology of how they worked. I was amazed that I was able to wear them immediately upon leaving the shop, driving away w/ very clear vision. It took a few weeks before I felt totally comfortable with my new glasses, and now I can say that I only wish I had done this sooner. I really am happy with my glasses - they make life so much simpler, e.g. when shopping, I only need one pair now. I am an avid reader and still prefer to wear my reading glasses for longer duration reading; and will most likely get new prescription reading glasses from 20/20 later this year, as I am very pleased with the quality of their work and with the service I have received. read more

I've been looking for a new pair of everyday frames for about a year now and I like the 50's style cat-eye plastic frames which this year I haven't seen much of around. I went to a bunch of stores and couldn't find anything I liked at the large chain stores and at some of the small fancier places was getting the cold shoulder probably because I'm younger and usually I'm running errands when I go look at glasses and am usually not dressed up or anything. So yesterday I was taking a break from cleaning the house and thought I'd walk down town to grab some lunch and I walked into 20/20 and was immediately greeted even though they were helping other people and as soon as someone available they were happy to help me. Judith was able to sense my style and and listened to what I said and was quickly able to pull many frames that might work for me and was even sensitive to the fact that I have a big head and need a wider frame. I told them I needed to think about it and I didn't feel pressured at all they simply said they hope to see me back again soon. I came back to purchase my frames today and am very happy!!!! I am a verrry difficult patient as I've grown up being corrected to 20/20 vision or better. Nearsighted, worn glasses since 7yrs old. I had given up the last few years as the need for progressives made the 20/20 part - history. The combination of Dr. Perrone and 20/20 is (I think) the best you can get! No computers for Dr. Perrone - he slugs it out trying different combinations of lenses like the old days (remember? gigantic machiine pressed to your forehead, "is this better? or this?). I had always thought that computers were an advancement simply "because". Dr. Perrone proved a lie to that. He gets me back to 20/20 (even 20/15 - with astigmatism). David takes the prescription and makes it happen. Fitting progressives is an art (really) and he is an artist (and a perfectionist) even if it takes a ton of "fiddling" with the frame vs lenses. Over time. Many visits. I told you, I am verrry difficult. Ask Diane, who's great as well. Anyway, if you need correction, and you are settling for seeing "pretty good, maybe" - see these guys. I came to 20/20 Optical last December after learning that I could no longer put off getting glasses. I had gone to several other places first, each one being as disappointing as the previous. I was not excited to have to wear glasses in the first place, and on top of it every pair that I tried on made me look 10-20 years older. When I went into 2020 Optical, I suddenly got a lot more excited about picking out some frames. They have an enormous selection of exciting, fashionable and refined frames, and the first pair I bought there they had ready in a single day so I would have them to take my finals with. My last interaction was even better than the first, with both David and Nancy being as helpful as ever. They were shortstaffed, and both helping different customers when I arrived. Due to their thorough service, my boyfriend and I ended up having to wait a little longer than we had been planning for, but David made sure that we were taken care of (and even gave us a little discount for our time), and it was well worth the wait. So far this place has been awesome, so I plan on returning for all of my framing needs! read more

12/11/2010 I am from Utah and in California for seven days. I found 20/20 on the web while doing a search for back surfaced digital progressive transitional lenses, which I needed when doing Wilderness Trips in the remote mountains of Colorado. I called and talked with a very caring staff member, and told her my needs, she quickly got the owner David on the phone, and after a few minutes I had made an appointment for the following day. upon arrival David spent a very ample amount of time with me to assure that what I wanted could be done, he then called the manufacturer to make sure my lenses could be prepared and shipped on a rush basis in time for a Saturday pickup. It took a total of five days to have a perfect setup for my needs. David was very open to using an old special frame that I had that was no longer available. The entire experience was very satisfactory. the cost was no more than other shops I had contacted, and in the price I received the benefit of David's years of experience, which is priceless. The service here is A1 and they're very accommodating. I called in just to see if they had any openings or cancelations, and Diane who answered the call said that she can take down my info and give me a call. Less then 5 minutes later, I get a call back and Diane says that they can take me. When I got there, she greeted me with her warm presence and explained to me how their practice functioned. I was very comfortable going in, and didn't feel like they were selling me on a product. Dr. Ong was great, and was very personable. I never felt rushed or pushed to upgrade on frames or lenses. All in all, this was an amazing experience and it never felt like a transaction. These guys actually take their time explaining the differences between fitment and aesthetics. David who I believe owns the practice came out to help me adjust my new frames, and explained to me how glasses actually worked. Oh and their turn around time is not your typical 2-3 weeks... After many years of hating my progressive glasses (from elsewhere) using input from Dr. Kathy On (very thorough and helpful) David was able to create a version of driving glasses (distance & intermediate) that are fabulous and fixed everything I hated about my prior glasses and more. I can drive and walk and do other regular tasks much more easily. I can see much better, particularly when glancing right or left or when turned around to look behind me. Everything is in focus. The tint of the clip on sunglasses makes it easier to see things in contrast, which is very helpful. The glasses are comfortable, extremely light and don't slip down my nose. There is no line between the distance and intermediate ranges. I can read everything, but really fine print. I don't have to bend my neck down to see the ground in focus when I walk. I have been using contact lens and glasses since I was 4 th grade. I bought three glasses at 20/20 Optical. David is so awesome. He helped me pick out multiple colorful glasses. He personally travels around the world and pick out gorgeous frames. He has never get tired to help me and let me try 20 frames. I had a hard time to decide which one to wear because there is so many selection to choose from. I bought two new pairs of colorful glasses (One is bright green for reading when I wear contact Len. The other was bright blue for Progressive Len). I usually don't wear glass to work. Bright blue frame is so beautiful. My coworkers complimented where did you get your glasses. It really looks good on you. I highly recommend if anyone is looking for a new glasses. David will help you endlessly to select what frame looks good on you. 20/20 Optical is so awesome. Reading some of the reviews here I see that many love 20-20 Optical, some don't, and that the nays are primarily about cost. I'd like to agree with the positives mentioned about service, style, quality and professionalism. And I'd like to add that I have had an opportunity to compare my average lens costs over time, weighing 20-20 Optical with prior sources. It is 20-20 clear to me that I spent much more, with much more aggravation, on other providers, even though the cost of each pair of glasses was apparently less. Today a new pair of lenses is being installed at 20-20 in a pair of frames that I purchased there in nine years ago. The frames are in new condition, fashion still there on eyewear that gets many compliments, and I don't have to go through any additional expense or search. Great shop! Here's my story with 20/20: I lost my Artcraft glasses on a hike. I wanted to replace them exactly. Only two opticians in Marin offered to order my old glasses from Artcraft. 20/20 was one of them. Luckily, 20/20 then discovered that they had my exact frame in stock (that was great, because sometimes, when ordering from an optician---and pre-paying--- the ordered item turns out to not be quite right, and you're stuck with it). So, I came in, and the owner was able to determine, from a photo I had, that the frame in stock was 2mm too narrow. So he ordered the correct size, at the same cost as the in-stock pair. They fitted the glasses perfectly, and the bill was $130 less than the other optician, who didn't have it in stock to begin with! Now that is service and inventory, par excellence. Bravo. read more

It was a pleasure to return to 20/20 optical today after my last purchase 5ish years ago when I worked with Diane. I was curious to see their collection of frames. As a sunglass addict, I always search for other store options. The reason I return to 20/20 is the customer service. David and his team are old school customer service providers. They engage with their clients, David went out of his way to get me an Ophthalmologist appointment with Dr. Ong, to review my prescription before I left town. In today's world who does that? In addition, Janet was fun to work with and was exceedingly patient with my idea of what tortoise meant. Thank you David and Diane for helping me out with a new pair of glasses. Losing my one and only pair after quite a few years, I was anxious to find someone who could make another set within 24hours and you all came to the rescue. I called three different places, and none of them could accomodate me because they did not have the equipment to create glasses in a short time. 20/20 not only has the best all around frames to chose from, but, they have the equipment upstairs to order the glass and to fit the glass to the frame of your choice within 24 hours. There are four words that can apply to this business: EASY... PERSONABLE... QUICK... REASONABLE... Now I can see and had my new glasses within 24 hours... Am definitely a 20/20 fan... This was my first experience withy 20/20 and I was really impressed. I've needed prescription sun glasses for some time and when I saw a 20/20 gift certificate at an auction to benefit my daughter's school, it was the perfect opportunity to support the school and a local business that's committed to the community. The selection was impressive, I found just what I was looking for and the service was second to none. I picked up the glasses yesterday and was blown away by how crisp everything was - even better than the clear lenses I just got from my opthamalogist's lab. In fact, in 20/20's analysis of my clear lenses they identified some variance from the prescription (just written in January) so I'll be taking them back to be corrected. Thank you 20/20! read more

Both Craig and Nancy who run the show here are both very nice and capable. They didn't pressure me in purchasing from them but let the products sell themselves. Nancy did the final measurements and double checked my previous lenses and what the prescription said. She also addressed the nuanced changes in my progressive lenses too. On the day I bought my frames they had a 20% off sale, which was very helpful in light the price on the frames aren't by any means cheap. One thing they don't take insurance. If your looking for new frames suggest either stopping in or sending an email. I found calling doesn't seem too successful in getting a hold of someone.

We are even more impressed than before, which is saying a lot!…read more My husband was seen at UCSF ophthalmology because he'd had some vision problems that could have been stroke-related and the UCSF ER group was thorough and diligent. UCSF gave him a new Rx for his distance glasses. We took it to Marin Optometry to have new glasses made. When he tried them, they were worse than no glasses or his reading glasses. They checked the UCSF prescription and his previous one. Then checked UCSF's notes. UCSF said he needed a stronger Rx, but the Rx was weaker. Marin Optometry offered to have my husband's eyes tested by Dr. Jean, a proper Rx determined, and new lenses made, all at no charge to him! They really went out of their way to correct someone else's error. We are SO grateful.
