The roasted shrimp biryani was really dry. When biryani is made fresh, it's typically moist, and the meat should be tender. The shrimp seemed like it had been roasted the night before, and it was overly salty--likely to preserve it and prevent spoilage. It could have even been roasted a week ago. The biryani rice wasn't much better either; it tasted like it was either cooked separately or pre-cooked before being added. I can tell because I've had biryani from various places, both across the U.S. from the Bay Area to Virginia, and in South India, so I know how it should taste when it's properly made. The next dish we ordered was Chicken 65, and it's honestly ridiculous that they called it that. Chicken 65 is supposed to be a dry appetizer, but they've turned it into a saucy dish, which completely misses the mark. We have requested them to make it dry. On top of that, there was hardly any flavor. Overall, it feels like they cook the meat the night before and then just reuse it in different dishes, which really affects the quality. Did not like the owner being biased based customers, when there are big group of customers, they are given discounts, complementary drinks and deserts, but small group of customers are not even anything. This differentiation is not fair, also logically when 2 people are in the restaurant, they are given food after 10-15 people are given, making us wait for 1-2 hours. I have been hesitant to leave a review because we had two bad experiences here but I think it's important to get the owners attention so changes can be made if necessary. We made a special trip out to Agoura Hills to try out this Biryani place. Got there early and waited for them to open for dinner service. I asked for a Thumbs-up (as reflected on their menu), the waitress said they had it but it was warm/ room temperature. I didn't mind room temperature but asked to add ice. When it was brought to me it was flat with no bubbles. When I requested a coke instead the waitress started arguing with me that she has told me previously it would be warm. This women went back and forth with me for a few minutes and I was just surprised she was being serious and stubborn over this. There's a clear difference in a soft drink being room temperature and flat. We ordered gobi Manchurian which taste good. The boneless chicken biryani started off tasting very authentic with strong flavors but there was a hair cooked into the chicken. I lost my appetite at that point and an older male worker came to check on us. At this point we were going to just pay and leave but he insisted on knowing why we didn't eat the food and profusely apologized and asked us to get a different plate of biryani to go. We thanked him but decided to pass on it. We've heard a lot to rave about this place and may give them a second chance in the future based on the authenticity of the food. read more

It was late on a Wednesday and this was essentially the only place still open and I'm glad I stumbled across it. The guy, who I presume is the owner, was super nice. There are something like 50 different types of Biryani so I asked him to help me choose something different. Everyone has shrimp biryani, so give me something nobody else has. He suggested one with lamb meatballs and another one with a heavily spiced chicken. Both were great. Heat level was what I had asked for. I also got a nice cup of masala chai for free while I waited and he threw in some of those donut balls soaked in simple sugar. The food was great. The help was great. The owner was great. The worst experience ever! We love non veg food and every piece of meat be it chicken or mutton everything was stale. We were just able to eat some rice and the empty curry and left the food back. Vegetarian review - for a place that named as Biriyani I'd assume they are the experts in being able to show the distinction between different types of biriyani and I'd be wrong. I don't know about the meat biriyani at this place but I can say based on my experiences (yes i actually went back to try again) they definitely don't care about the vegetarian customers. Ulavacharu veg is no different than gongura biriyani and egg biriyani is just plain bland. Hakka noodles has plenty of veggies and OK and maybe the only thing a vegetarian can possibly enjoy there (if you don't mind the slightly over cooked noodles which is fine for kids). I gave two stars instead of one purely for the noodles. The service was a bit odd. There was no one dining in but when we said we wanted to dine in, the staff was surprised and reacted as if they weren't trained to handle dine in customers. In the end they got it together and it was ok but the awkwardness they felt was far too evident and hard to miss in such a small dining space. Don't think I'd go back since there are a few other choices a few miles away. read more

After giving much praise to this place, I can no longer recommend this place. My most recent experience was terrible and most insulting. It was a busy night and all orders were running late. When the manager finally came out of the kitchen with our order, he looked me in the eye and said,"Tonight you will have the real dum chicken biriyani" That sounds really great. Until I got home and opened the packet. My chicken biriyani was cold and it was pretty much all bones. See the pictures. Normally you get an entire leg and thigh. The flavor was off. If this is the real dum biriyani, it is worse than a cheap roadside street vendor selling biriyani. Instead of telling me it would be great, the manager could have apologized they ran out of chicken biriyani. If you cannot maintain the quality, you will lose customers. My husband went here to pick up food today and he waited an hour for the food to be ready. The food here used to be really good, well today after an hour wait the food was inedible. The goat pepper fry was tough, stale, and dry. The butter chicken was horrid and the chicken was hard. The biriyani and szechuan fried rice were bland and tasteless. This place is authentic AF!!! I got the dosa, chicken manchurian, gongura goat biryani, mango lassi, mango fruit custard, and the regular yogurt sauce and spicy yogurt sauce on the side. We really loved our dinner at 21 Biryani, an Indian restaurant in Agoura! The food was super tasty and full of authentic flavors, and you can tell they use real fresh ingredients. We ordered the vegetarian paneer which had a nice kick to it and the vegan rice biryani. Our top favorite dish was the butter chicken curry, which was made with soy chicken, and was super addictive. The staff and owner were very friendly and took the time to explain the dishes to us. We also had the bread pudding dessert warmed up with ice cream, which was DELICIOUS! The Indian food here is excellent. It usually takes hours to cook these biriyani dishes and I will probably opt to take out from this restaurant and spend the extra time happily hanging out by the pool. I had read from others the dishes are quite spicy so I requested medium spice level which most places is on par for me, But it was still so incredibly spicy that it overpowered the flavor of the dish.
