We decided to give Taj Chaat another chance. Sadly, not much has changed since my original visit. It was actually a pretty similar experience. To start the gentleman who took our order was very friendly. We ordered Samosas as an appetizer and 2 main dishes. The tandoori chicken dish came out very early for my girlfriend. The samosas and other main dish came out about 10 minutes later. I ordered the chicken curry this time and asked for spicy. Same again, zero spice. Not even a medium spice. There was literally no heat added. Same happened with my girlfriend. She had asked for medium spice on her Tandoori Chicken dish and there was no heat. To be fair the Tandoori chicken was delicious. Very juicy and flavorful. The curry dish was relatively bland. (Again, any amount of heat may have made a difference). Mango lassis were again very good. But not really enough reason for us to make a 3rd visit. It's unfortunate, because the location is so close to my house. read more

Pretty good Indian food but expect lots of butter/ghee in the food!! My friend and I dropped by for dinner Saturday evening around 7:30 pm. To our surprise, there was just one other group there even though it should've been peak dining hours. Because of this, we didn't have high expectations for the food, but surprisingly it turned out okay. The space is nice and big with both table and booth seating. It looked like there was a private room for events off to one side as well. Since it's a chaat place, we got some chaat as well as a curry. We shared the following: Pav bhaji ($10.99) Paneer kathi roll ($10.99) Chicken tikka masala ($17.99) Plain roti and naan ($2.99 + $3.49) Out of everything, the pav bhaji was our favorite. The bhaji was drier than usual (usually it's a bit more liquid), but the flavor was good. There was also a strong taste of butter/ghee, more than what I'm used to, so it's definitely a very rich dish here, especially with the extra chunk of butter they serve on top. Too bad they only serve two pav by default, as at least 3, maybe 4, would've been good to go with the amount of bhaji provided. I only took a bite of the kathi roll, but it was a bit too sweet for me personally. However, my friend liked it and said that the paneer tasted very fresh and soft. The chicken tikka masala was pretty standard. Nothing to write home about. We were pleasantly surprised by the flavors here. This place was really cute first off. Very fresh and modern vibe. Also the main worker was really kind. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. It tasted like it had a bit of Asian fusion to it which was great. The pakora were also delicious as well as the chutney served with it. The butter chicken was okay. The sauce was decent but the chicken tasted like it was from a bag, pre cubed. Would've been better with some thigh meat that they cook there. Naan was really good can't complain. I love this place. But more I love their spinach chaat. Growing up in Bombay, street food is a part of my heritage and is my soul food. One bite of this and I'm transported back to my childhood. The spinach pakoras (fritters) make an incredible base for the multi-seasoned, multi-textured, complexity of this dish. Crispy spinach pakoras, topped cubed potatoes and garbanzo beans, with cool yogurt, seasoned with the quintessential spicy green mint/cilantro chutney and tangy and sweet tamarind chutney and sprinkled with seasonings-- including the tartly delicious chaat masala...yum. Every bite. Every spoonful. Perfect. 5/5 Coconut chicken curry -- creamy, healthy chunks of chicken and a perfect morsel with delicious chewy, soft naan. I asked for medium spice -- next time I'll go max spice. 4/5 Masala chai-- delicious - but missed the mark somehow. Maybe because my homemade chai is so good. Although it is offered free -- so can't complain too much. 3/5 Stuffed parathas. These were well filled and not skimpy on the filling and perfectly cooked. Each morsel taken was a memory of my motherland. I've had biryani, lamb and goat curry and gobi Manchurian here on different trips -- all absolutely delicious. read more

Woah! I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and it did not disappoint. I got the 6 pc tandoori chicken and the chicken biryani. The gentlemen running the place, assuming the owner, was kind and pleasant. I wanted to get lamb biryani but he was out and offered me goat. I opted for chicken but appreciated the options. All of the food was amazing. The spices swirled in my sinuses for a bit and it was magic. To top it off the owner offered me my first lassi which was absolutely delicious. read more

TL;DR: Taking both eat-in and takeout, this place is mid at best. If you can help it, you need to go in person. DoorDash/Delivery is wayyy too inconsistent. Hands down the best Indian food you can get in Simi Valley. Everything tastes authentic, fresh, and flavorful. Highly recommend their namesake papari chaat. However, ordering takeout from here trends between meh and awful. This last go round, we ordered chicken biryani, chicken makhani, chicken Kathi roll, and paneer Kathi roll. Almost everything we ordered this time was awful. Idk, maybe the chef forgot to add spice or they ran out, but everything was BLAND. The Chicken Kathi Roll and Chicken Biryani both had raw chicken inside (mind you, this is the second instance). The Paneer Kathi Roll had zero flavor and didn't even use a proper naan wrap (as they had in the past). The only good food was the Gobi Manchurian. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend this place, unless you go in during lunch time. I haven't checked out karaoke, but if that's your jam, it'd be worthwhile to check out. read more

Taj Chaat House in Simi Valley, is a good stop, if you are in the mood for Chaat (savory snacks that are part of Indian street food). This time, I got the Dahi Bhalle (chilled lentil dumplings soaked in yoghurt and topped with chutneys and spices) to go. Another name for this would be Dahi Vada. The balance of red (tamarind) and green (mint) chutneys was well crafted and there were also cubes of boiled potatoes. The yoghurt though flavorful, lacked body and creaminess. The dumplings themselves lacked freshness and texture. Literally falling apart, when you spoon them out to eat. I have had their Papari Chaat, in the past, as a dine in item and that concoction, on all levels, was superb. If only the Dahi Bhalle, could have matched the impact of that dish. read more

It's kind of out of the way so it's not on the main boulevard and I think good reviews or what's going to keep these guys afloat because there was some good food on my plate. Inside was clean and big; felt a bit like a cafeteria. The lady at the counter (you order and then sit for them to bring it to you) was very helpful when she found out this was our first time. Food was good. I missed the char on the naan which adds more flavor. Everything was fine. Could be better, could be worse. It was almost forgetable. The only thing I was blown away on was the fish and mango Lassi. The fish was SUPER flavorful (if a tiny bit salty) and just about cooked to perfection (small pieces were slightly overcooked). The mango lassi was strong in the mango flavor and so creamy. Might have been the best I've had. If everything were as incredible as the fish and lassi had been, it would have been 5 stars and I wouldn't think their prices were on the high side (everything comes a la carte). Will definitely be back for the fish and drink alone if not to try more items. read more

We ordered tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, vegetable korma, saag paneer, rice, and plain naan. The naan was very good. The tandoori chicken was disgusting. Unfortunately, one of my kids had a piece before I tried it and realized it was very underdone -- I'm really hoping she doesn't get sick! I microwaved the rest of the chicken but it was bland other than kind of a gross rancid flavor. All of the curries except the saag paneer were extremely sweet but otherwise very bland. The saag paneer was also bland but at least not overly sweet. It had undercooked onion pieces, which I didn't care for. I'm very disappointed because, besides possibly giving us food poisoning, this was supposed to be a celebration meal for us (I love Indian and never get it so this was supposed to be a special treat.) read more

We first dined at the Taj when it first opened in Simi Valley. Used to love the food at the Taj Chaat House, were thrilled to have a good Indian restaurant with Punjabi food in eastern Simi, and continued to dine there even as the prices almost doubled. Food price inflation, it is everywhere. The food was so good that we didn't mind paying more. Then they added the 3% charge for paying with a credit card, and an extra charge if you agreed to their offer to make the food spicy "hot." We skipped the spicy hot, but still dined there about once a month or special occasions. But yesterday when we had lunch at the Taj I was shocked to find the tastes of the same dishes that we have ordered many times before so deteriorated. They had none of their special tastes. The chili paneer (Indian cheese)- which used to be one or their appetizer specialities, was just paneer slices in a blah (tasteless) curry sauce. The lamb in the lamb curry was tough as rock - should have been tenderized before being added to the curry. The curries had none of the special flavors and tastes of the past. The family meal at $49 ($3 extra for lamb) for 2 curries plus naan (your choice) and plain white rice seemed like a good deal, had the same appearance as before, but lacked the expected flavor and taste, and the lamb needed another hour of tenderizing. The garlic naan looked great, but was tough instead of being tender and light. The potato samosas (2 to a plate, $5.99) were as great as before! That's when I learned that the previous manager/owner, Jesse, had sold the business 10 months back. The new owner who also served us, was trying to make things work, but did not seem to have access to the previous recipes. He said the chef was the same. But the food certainly did not taste the same. Such a shame. We used to love the food at the Taj Chaat House. High costs have killed many restaurants. I hope that that does not happen to the Taj. I wish the new owner the best of luck, but chicken and lamb curries must taste better, and the chili paneer needs to return to its previous glory. read more

In a town full of chain restaurants, it's nice to have some diversity! This restaurant has been open for approximately 1.5 months! The restaurant location use to be a biker bar! Now it clean refreshed causal Indian restaurant! We enjoyed our food: quite a menu from snacks to appetizers to desserts! Something for everybody! We had samosa, paneer and lamb. I recently heard about Taj Chaat on the Simi Valley Foodies page (awesome page, I highly recommend it!) and decided to come and check it out. It is a newer business and I noticed that they had yet to have a Yelp page created for them. The location is a little hard to find, from the main street it is easy to miss (basically it's behind Aubergene next to "the shop around the corner"). I initially drove past it, thinking it was in the "lucky dog" strip mall (it's not, also sidebar---LD does amazing coffee). Anyways back to Taj, they have a decent sized parking lot which they share. The interior space is very large, and very modern. There's a large selection of booths, tables, and high-top tables as well as a larger more open space in the back, which looks perfect for large parties. The space is very bright, welcoming, and inviting. The gentleman helping was also very inviting and welcoming. He said they had just opened two weeks ago, and checked on both myself and the other customers to make sure everything was satisfactory. I didn't have any questions (trust me, I know my way around a plate of Indian food) however they seem very proud of their food here (rightfully so!) and looked open to answering any questions. I ordered a chicken tikka masala (honestly one of my top 3 foods ever), garlic naan, and samosas. The food was exceptionally fresh and beautifully presented. The CTM was a large portion (honestly enough for two meals) and was served with the perfect amount of spice ("medium"). Additionally the large portion of naan was perfect to soak it up. The samosas had a beautiful amount of spice inside of them. It should be noted that the CTM came without rice, however in the same sentence I literally want to point out that it was more than enough food as is. I finished my plate, naan, and one samosa and practically had to roll out of there happy and content! Prices were exceptionally fair, my meal ran about $23, pre-tip. Chicken biryani had good ratio of meat to rice, and a single entree fed an average adult for 2 meals! This is much better than last 3 Indian restaurants I visited! While it is order at counter with self serve water, cucumber/onion/jalapenos (to go with your food), I was impressed that they provided quality dishes and utensils to eat on and brought me my briyani in a nice dish with serving utensils. I found the raw cucumbers and onions an essential accompaniment to the briyani as well as the yogurt. When eating the leftover briyani I had to try to recreate from my fridge the accompaniments. I've always tasted but not finished yogurt served with Indian meals and have finally found my Aha! While I dined here multiple diners with discerning tastes ordered, dined and ordered more! It might seem quiet outside but business was brisk inside. I am returning and can't wait to explore more of their menu! read more

Most of the commonly known items were tasty and the portions as expected for an Indian restaurant. They also get points for serving hot food, not warm food. We got the samosas. Just wish more came with each order. We had to order three servings of samosas for our group of six. The tikkas and vindaloos were on point but we preferred the tikkas. The naan was okay but again it was nice and hot so it still gets points. The service was quick and the atmosphere was relaxed. We plan to go back to try some unfamiliar dishes. read more

for a side of rice, curry, and naan, it's 30 dollars with a 3% surcharge fee from paying with card (i'm pretty sure certain surcharges can be borderline illegal) . service was fine, took 15 minutes to come out, i got takeout. it was hot and well wrapped/prepared, no utensils so awkward lol but i get it. naan was great! rice was okay but honestly it's hard to find really good rice anywhere, but the curry was like water. no point in mixing it into the rice or scoop with naan because with the naan it would just pour out before i could get a bite. flavor was pretty bland and didn't have that much texture or anything other than the chicken. inside needed a sweep, leaves kind of everywhere which i'm guessing is from the winds. overall very unimpressed for something definitely not worth the price. read more

Love the inside/decor of Taj Chaat House! The cashier and server were both nice. I forgot to grab the Limca's I ordered and she kindly brought them out to us! That being said, I would describe the food as above average. The biryani lacks the flavorfulness and spice you expect with biryani and the same goes for the chicken tikka masala. Please take no offense to this, but this is good Indian food for people who don't eat Indian food a lot/know what to expect. Brilliant! This is the best Indian food I have ever had! We started off with the Pani Puri.. so good and I wanted to drink the spicy water lol!! Then we got chicken vindaloo and tandoori chicken. This is by far the best vindaloo I have ever had. It was tangy and spicy and so flavorful! The tandoori chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. The garlic naan was delicious. The food was so good that we had to try dessert.. first the Gulab Jamun it was so sweet and syrupy and yummy. Then Rasmalai was my favorite of dessert! It tasted of rose and cardamom and was not too sweet, those were so good we had to order and try another dessert.. gajar halwa! Carrots and cashew and sweetness... we will be back! Probably tomorrow LOL The tables were huge! I felt like I was sitting so far from my husband but it made sense when the food came out. Service... impeccable service! The owner came and checked on us. I came to Taj Chaat after people were raving about it on Next Door app. They sure did not disappoint! I ordered my favorite classic a chicken tikki masala and tried a new dish recommended by the lovely young lady working the front desk and lobby, a saag paneer. They had a great deal that was advertised on the register. 2 curries, 3 orders of naan and a large rice for only $45! Despite having many to go orders coming in and out of the restaurant they got my food out extremely quick and everything was fresh, smelled amazing and looked beautiful. My girlfriend's jaw dropped after taking her first bite! We brought home enough leftovers for 3 more meals. The staff was very friendly, the seating area clean and overall a great atmosphere.
