My hair was getting brassy and it needed a little pick me up, so Hailey worked her magic and I felt so refreshed after our session was done within reasonable time. I've been a client there at 21 North Cocept for the 2 years I've lived here from the East Coast. Robyn is my stylist and I have had no complaints, but many compliments! My hair is short and I wore it this way for quite a while. I chose her because there is a short piece ahead of their photo and it described what they not so much specialize in that certain cut, but I'm guessing they might do more of. I never thought to ask. I went in for a simple blunt cut but unfortunately left with an uneven result--one side of my hair was about 2 inches longer than the other. I sent a clear picture through the salon's text portal to show the discrepancy, and also shared it in my Google review. It took a full week to finally get the manager on the phone, despite her texting sporadically with explanations of their policies. Toward the end of the week, she offered a complimentary oil, but I was hoping for at least a partial refund, which she refused. When we finally spoke, she claimed I had likely parted my hair differently, but a 2-inch difference isn't something that can be explained by a part. I was sick (cough and running a fever) and cancelled at 9am for my 1pm appt and lost my $100 due to a "rescheduling fee". I guess I should have showed up sick and infected everyone!!! I moved to Boise fairly recently and was excited to find a new salon to go to. After doing some research I came across this studio, the great reviews, and nice photos. I did some further research on who the stylists were and thought Cara and I would be a good fit, due to her experience and style. I was able to book my appointment with ease, huge plus, and was honest that I wasnt 100% sure what I wanted to do - thus, I was excited to talk with Cara. The day came and I arrived about 5-8 minutes early, the salon is nice inside, clean, and was greeted. I waited until after my appointment was to begin, no big deal, until Cara was ready for me. Talking with Cara I told her about how low maintenance I am, that I have been doing balayage for awhile, which she agreed was good for me. I told her how I was born with basically platinum blonde hair and it turned ashy then dark as I grew older. For my hair I said I was more than open to suggestions, that it felt like a blanket, but wondered if a longer angular bob would look good? She answered in the affirmative and said layers would be good too. That way my hair would cup my face and add some of the youthfulness/edge I was looking for. So the appointment began and I was feeling pretty optimistic, but as the three hours dragged on, that went down. I was virtually ignored the three hours I was there, occasionally we chatted, but Cara was more interested in talking to her coworkers about her therapist, chakras, marijuana, the guy she was seeing, etc. I tried to interject, feel like a part of the conversation but ended up stopping eventually. Eventually my time in the chair ended and while the color and haircut are not too bad, they are not what I was expecting. My balayage was a lot warmer of a blonde, although we talked about ashy blondes and how that works for me. My hair was layered sure, but not a bob...in addition, the whole of my hair was shorter than I had anticipated and we talked about. All in all, Cara was nice but not attentive. The hair was decent but didn't 100% satisfy me or come as close to what we were talking about originally. After dropping a couple hundred, I expect better and will not be returning. read more

The salon offered several options to meet my demanding work schedule. Robyn fit my schedule and expectations. We chatted, showed her my desired style, color and preferences. She suggested options of how we could arrive at the expected results. Emphasizing how I would be styling, time restrictions- my limitations with a round brush. She worked her magic (she is a magician), it's great and one of the best styles and low lights I've had. The service included a hand and head massage. Those were great after a long day at the screen. I booked an appointment with Nikki Bushman and everything was set, or so I thought. I got a phone call a few days later letting me know that whomever booked my appointment didn't allot enough time for my appointment so she needed to reschedule. The day of my second appointment, she cancelled again. I get that things come up but being cancelled on twice just seems like you don't really care about your customers. Had the situation been reversed and J cancelled my appointment the day of, you would probably want me to pay for at least 50% of my missed appointment. Since you care so little about your customers, I'll just take my business elsewhere thanks!! read more

Robyn did my color, highlights and cut a few weeks ago and I haven't actually styled my hair much since so hadn't really realized how amazing the cut was. I made appointment with Emma to dye and cut my hair. Before we started I discussed with her about the color and hair style I want. I'm not a picky person at all but very disappointed how she treated me and resolved the problem. I paid $300 to dye my hair to silver and $50 to cut my hair. After 3 weeks, the color was gone completely, I texted her about my hair to fix it and everything she did was trying to blame the color and my hair. She even wanted to charge more $70 toner refresh without asking me how my hair looked like or how bad it was. That's really pissed me off. I asked her if I pay $70 more, how long could I keep the color? She just kept silent and stopped talking to me. She was nice enough to do my hair but changed attitude to fix my hair. My feelings were she just want to take advantage of clients who have color on their skin or not speak English fluently like her or maybe I wasn't lucky to have her on that day. I think I need to speak out. After I complained to Laura the owner I found out Emma only did 2/3 my hair and left 1/3 black. Laura tried to make it right and wanted to fix my hair. Thanks Laura. I haven't come back to fix my hair yet because I don't want to deal with Emma anymore. I still recommend this place because Laura tried to resolve the problem. That's all I need but with Emma I'm not sure. read more

I left my appointment here, thinking about what was really bothering me about my experience here. First, I booked a color and partial highlight, and thought I'd conveyed exactly what I wanted to the stylist (overall lighter, keep the color away from anything orange or red). I showed her a couple photos I found on Pinterest and she agreed she understood what I wanted. She said the overall lighter color would need much more time than my 3.5 hour appointment but it would be lighter than what we were starting with. I was willing to spend the time and money but she couldn't commit to it, even after admitting there wasn't a client right behind me for an appointment. Oh. Ok....? My request for lighter hair wasn't unrealistic, I've gotten the results I wanted from other stylists who were actually paying attention and knew their chemistry. I feel this communication just didn't happen here. Secondly, when toning she mentioned that she was using a semi-permanent toner and not a "regular" toner. Uhm....Why? I'm paying for permanent change to my hair! Now that my hair has been out in the natural light for a couple days, I'm just sick over it. My hair turned out exactly how I did NOT want it: Orange/red overall tone and looking brassy. I paid a lot of money at this Aveda salon to have it done professionally, yet I feel it looks like a bad box color dye job. Embarrassing. A full refund would be great, because I'm now going to have to have my hair color corrected at another salon. This shouldn't happen at a place like 21 North. Highly disappointed in my experience here and the awful result which I believe can be attributed to the stylist. Although she was pretty nice, she missed the mark completely with my hair color which can only be remedied by color correction at another salon. I can't recommend this salon in good faith and I absolutely will NOT be back here. read more

Last Saturday I needed a last minute appointment & sent out some requests to a few salons I would have liked to go to. I had sent out request to their sister salon & their owner, Laura, had gotten back to me to let me know that Blis' sister salon "21 North" had an opening if I would like to take it. I was extremely hesitant at first, knowing that my previous experience had been a rocky one, to say the least due to an issue with one of their stylists. Laura had handled that situation with grace, respect & thoughtfulness, though I felt that i would never step foot in that salon again because of the way the previous stylist had treated me. I've been around the block when it comes to salons, spas & anything beauty. I love trying new places, new ideas & new artists. Therefore i would like to think that i know a thing or two when it comes to the beauty world. When Laura said she had an opening, I was very hesitant & I immediately found out who the stylist would be & did quick research. From what I could find, she was a newer stylist, Tianna, that specialized in blonde. Perfect, that'll do I thought. Laura & the stylist I was about to meet had no idea of the previous disaster, i planned on keeping it that way so I could go in there with a clean slate opinion. My appointment was at noon, but the previous client ran over, thats fine, it happens. I would say around 1230 I sat down, spoke to the stylist, Tianna & Laura on what I wanted & what was feasible in the time we had. I was a pretty light blonde, with some warmth in some areas & my roots had grown out at least an inch or so. We decided on a partial highlight on top, bayalage the bottom to weed out the warmth I'd been trying to get out for some time. We started coloring round 1-120pm, & stopped foiling a few hours in, washed, toned & styled by 545/6pm. My hair was in no way a color correction, but it did take some experience to know what to do when you're dealing with the different tones/levels & warmth. I applaud Tianna for being able to navigate through my thick head of hair, & for being able to actually listen to what I wanted, not what she thought I wanted. *As a stylist it's so very important to listen to what your client wants, not what you think'll look good or what you want for them* Tianna was also a perfectionist, she wanted to make sure everything looked the way it was supposed to, & when some parts didn't lift as well as she wanted, she told me we would fix it before I even had to ask her. There's things that'll separate you from other stylists, things that cant be taught, they're just instinct & Tianna has it, in fact she excels at it. Tianna did a great job, she's shy at first, but once she opens up, she shows off her beautiful personality. If it wasn't for my experience with Tianna, & the way that Laura (the owner) directed her, & treated me, I wouldn't be writing this review singing their praises. I would be writing about the terrible way I was treated prior. This visit taught me that one bad apple doesn't poison the tree & there's many ways to make up for that experience, with or without them knowing they're making up for it. At the end of the day, you never know who you're helping or speaking to. The owner is a wonderful woman, & I can happily say she made the right decision in hiring someone like Tianna. read more

Upon entering, wide and spacious studio if you wish to call it, with a reception lobby/couch. We were nicely greeted and made to feel welcomed, and easy to talk to. They were helpful to me to determine when i might need to return to pick her up. Her stylist came out, greeted us both and was pleasant. Upon my arrival, my wife was very happy and looked as beautiful as always, pleased with the services she received. I'm never going back, and i made sure to post the pictures of my botched hair all over my social media with Hannah's name. some of my friends did the same. I'm fairly new to Boise and so I relied on Yelp to help me find a hair salon with good reviews. Salon 21 North was a little farther away than I thought but it was well worth the extra five minutes. They responded to my request for an appointment within the half hour and were able to get me in for a same day appointment. I knew nothing about the stylist but I have pretty simple needs so I wasn't really worried. The salon has a clean, open and modern feel to it and the stylists had a nice friendly way about them. Sydney my stylist greeted me almost immediately and listened carefully to my instructions about how I wanted my hair done. I gave her plenty of leeway to make her own suggestions and in the end the result was perfect. The entire wash, cut and blow dry along with a little curling iron took exactly one hour and Sydney and I enjoyed great conversation the entire time along with some friendly input from one of the other stylists. I left here feeling very good about the entire experience. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and everyone in the place also looked like they had great hair as well which was a nice plus. I have curly hair and I have never been to a salon that specializes in curly hair. Hannah was my hairstylist and she was the most amazing hairstylist I've ever had in my life. She cut my hair perfect. She gave me the most beautiful color and really revived my hair and my self-esteem. As a Mom and not being able to go out and take care of my hair as much I felt as though I had the best treatment. I feel so happy with my hair, and I am so thankful for Hannah, and will definitely be coming back and requesting her as my hairdresser. I will be recommending this salon! The staff was amazing, everyone that worked there was very friendly, professional, and kind with my son who I brought with me. We felt very welcomed, and I would definitely recommend the salon for other women.
