I went in to Ulta today to grab some serums and eyeshadow. I frequent this Ulta quite often. I appreciate that they have drugstore make up and department store make up in one location. It makes it being a convenient one stop shop. I'm going to be honest, customer service here is so inconsistent. There's staff that is so kind and helpful. Then there's staff here that should be working in the beauty industry with the kind of negative attitude that they have. But recently, I feel like staff has changed and shopping here has been so much more pleasant and actually fun! The store is smaller and congested but I actually like it! I feel like it's full of stuff to look at and test out. I did grab a handful of products today. The gal that helped me out at the register today was really nice! My app coupon wasn't quite working but she made it happen for me. 10 bucks off is a nice chunk of change to save. I adore that she made sure I got to save some money. I'm sure that I'll be there to grab more product later this month. There's always lashes, setting spray for lip gloss that needs to be picked up. While visiting family in Boise, I was out shopping for gold nail polish and the stores I usually go to didn't have any. I figured Ulta must have some so I stopped by. I expected a busy store but this one seemed quiet. Maybe because it was early afternoon on a weekday. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and asked if there was anything they could help with. I went straight for the nail polish and they had multiple gold polish to pick from. I got one and on my way out I found a new lotion by Hempz, Serene Waters an extra moisture lotion. Up until checkout this was a great visit. Checkout itself took forever. There was a line and with 3 cashier's you'd think it would move quickly but each transaction seemed to take forever. Usually they are quick so I am not sure what was going on. read more

So far this place is amazing. I an NOT what you would call a girly girl I don't wear makeup hardly at all and forget that people get their hair cut regularly. So I have a wedding tomorrow and I traveled in from out of state. I worked right up until it was time to hop on my fight so in a panic a couple days before my flight I called asking if someone in store does full face make up. For the past couple of YEARS I've had this weird mark on my nose. (I promise I'll try to make story time as short as possible lol) My entire life, I've had psoriasis. So, I figured...ok, this is just that. My primary doctor even said "just use your psoriasis meds on it" He's a doctor. We are supposed to trust them, right? Lol. The mark would fade, come back, fade, etc. I finally was like... yeah, it's been a few years since I saw my Dermy. Made an appointment. Right away, a P.A. was like..."yeeeeah, pretty sure that's not psoriasis. Looks like skin cancer" Biopsy was done. Week later I found out that's what it was/is. Had my little nose surgery and they removed MOST of it. However, for the leftovers, I had to use chemo cream. My nose at this point is BUSSSTED! Looks awful. My Pound Fit gang and I were performing at Pride this year (3rd year doing it) I do the chemo cream 2 weeks on, 2 off and repeat this for 3 cycles. I just finished my first :( With being at Pride, I needed something to cover it up. Went to Ulta. Tried to get the girls name who helped me, but couldn't see her name tag without being obvious lol. VERY VERY nice person tho. She showed me all kinds of different cover up thingys lol. I bought one and used a tiny bit of it. So in a sense, I kinda wasted money bc I was too scared to put too much on my nose haha. Regardless, I'm just glad they were so nice here bc I was/I am super inhibited with this mess on my face. Only complaint, if I'd call it that, was there was a line and only one person open. My wait time was longer than expected. I even hate mentioning that, but they ended up opening another register and so glad they did bc the girl who rang me up, Jada was THEEEE nicest person. I know ppl see my nose and think .... "Ugh omh wtf" (skin cancer is crazy ugly haha) but Jada and the rest of the staff didn't make me feel weird even if I was so embarrassed. Jada was so sweet. Asked me my plans for the night and I said .."well, I'm old. So I'm going grocery shopping and then home" it was a Friday lol. My email made her laugh too. So that always makes me happy when that happens haha! I know that part is useless info, but worth sharing imo. The world needs more positive, happy, people like Jada. Ulta, I always feel weird going in your store..seeing as your clientele seems to be mostly women. However, when a guy rolls in, you're always nice and accommodating. For those of us that are inhibited going in and coming in with a busted face, thank you for being nice and not judgey. Means a lot. Prices of course are all over the place...from super cheap to crazy pricey. However, they are still reasonable, if that makes sense. Stores are always super clean. I have yet to see a dumpy Ulta. That's refreshing to go into a store and it's always clean. Ok, I guess that's it. Thanks again, Ulta Meridian. The store itself is great, but this review is for my salon service. I wanted a change in color, but wasn't sure what would work best for me. I called and spoke to April. She took the time to ask some assessment questions and ultimately offered to come in for a consult. I went in, April gave me ideas for color, did a couple test strands and we came up with a game plan. Today I went in for my color. Oh. My. Goodness! She was amazing and hands-down the best color I've ever had. Perfect. The scalp massage bout made me melt in the chair. Went into the store for shampoo and conditioner. Was able to find what I wanted. Proceeded to the register. There was one guy helping a customer with a return and a purchase. Alyssa ( name on my receipt) was standing in the register area. She saw me standing there waiting to be checked out, but did not call be over until at least 5-10 minutes later. I LOVE Ulta! I am not really a girlie girl, but when I am in Ulta I just cannot resist and I end up spending a bit of money. The Ulta on Milwaukee by far is the best store. I say this because when I go to the one on Eagle I am not able to locate anything I want and the staff ignores the company's promos. The one on Milwaukee? I always find what I am looking for. I get freebies whether I am aware of them or not. The staff is just mahvolus! There was a Nefertiti eyeshadow collection that I was looking for and two people helped me find it and they were quick! This place is a good go to for your beauty needs. Why? Because even though they are expensive they are more affordable than say Sephora. Ulta always has some cool offers to! read more

I'm decidedly a fan of the retail aspect of Ulta--I haven't tried their hair/makeup services. What I like is that they have EVERYTHING. Go to your local drugstore and you're faced with a plethora of the big name/inexpensive brand choices. Go to other beauty supply stores and you have your pick of high end beauty merchandise. Here? You have it all. This, I love, because my favorite mascara just happens to be one that can be found almost anywhere. My favorite tinted moisturizer, on the other hand, is a more exclusive brand of organic makeup that can be difficult to find. I like being able to get both in one place. It's a one-stop-shop for all your beauty/makeup/hair necessities. I'm a big fan of their Ulta brand liquid hand soap (I haven't purchased a scent that hasn't proved to be fabulous). Around the holidays, they have a wonderful supply of gift ideas that are sure to stuff your stockings full of loveliness. They carry Bare Mineral products (yes!). And, have an impressive array of perfumes in their perfume section. The service is a bit spotty and I recommend always checking to make sure you received the sale price you were expecting on all your items before leaving. It's not like it's a HUGE problem, but has happened enough for me to always check. Get to it! read more

So my boyfriend and I became inspired by RuPauls drag race to dabble in some makeup, however the process of getting started in makeup is major time overwhelming. We went into Ulta and shuffled around dazzled and confused for a solid 45 minutes and then we asked for some help finally. The sweetest girl, Ellen, helped us and she was so cute and so helpful. Tooba is just amazing she I've been doing my hair for the last two years since I had moved to Idaho. She did a beautiful red color with some rose gold highlights and then she started doing my extensions she did a beautiful job. When I first went there to do the red I was blonde I had to going to another salon in Seattle. I wanted to try something new we did a red color and she didn't like how it looked and asked if I had time to do a correction. It wasn't really a correction she just wanted to make sure the color was perfect like the photo I had shown her. She is honest and after that we had the formula written down and the perfectShades of rose gold and copper and red. If you're in the Boise area I highly recommend that you go see her she is a color expert she really cares about your hair and is really a perfectionist. On top of that she's a great conversationalist and she does all the work herself to make sure that you have a perfect experience. I had even brought my daughter with me one time and she got her a snack and a water bottle and Saturday down in a chairAnd checked up on her. I only was she very accommodating to me and my child she was very kind to her and asked her questions while she was there. Finding make up that is perfect for you is a struggle. (Can I get a witness?!) So I must start this review by saying hats off to Ulta for helping me figure out what works best for me/my skin. They have consultants who are available to help color match you (#PRAISE), answer questions, and help you find the right products for YOU. A few years ago, it was suggested to me by one of their consultants that I use Bare Minerals. Three years later, and I've never looked back. My skin is very happy with this makeup, plus it wears really well throughout the day! (If you're exploring makeup options, I highly recommend trying out this line.) Beyond Bare Minerals, they also have a great selection of other products from Too Faced (love their "lip injection extreme" lip plumper), to drug store brands like Loreal (their voluminous mascara is my fave), as well as hair products, and nail polish/utensils. Added bonus: it feels like they always have some sort of sale going on. Plus, they have an awesome rewards system! I swear, it feels like every time I check out, I'm given an extra 20% off from accruing points from my previous purchases. read more

This is by far the worst Ulta I've ever been in, and I usually prefer Ulta to Sephora. They don't have many products. They only had one nude stix item, so shop online if you want something specific. I'm most infuriated that I bought the Kylie skin vitamin c serum and it was shattered. I buy Kylie skin from Ulta and from Kylie's site all the time and have never had this happen, except from the one time I tried the Boise location. Employees should make sure to check any glass bottles before purchases at the register since clearly they don't check their own inventory because their busy talking with each other than caring about their products or customers. read more

Went to the store November 20th, grabbed my items and went to the register. There were 3-4 employees behind the counter socializing and no one else in line. I walked up to a register, waited about 20 seconds for the workers to stop talking, and when one finally decided to help she told me "the line starts over there at the other side of the counter past the displays." I looked and there was NO ONE ELSE IN LINE (so it didn't really matter.) The clerk then yelled over to a lady shopping sort-of near that side of the store if she'd like to be helped before me. The customer said "no, I'm still shopping." The clerk then turned back to me with an eye-roll and sighed as she took my items (never giving a greeting or even a smile) and said simply, "phone number?" I gave my phone number, she rang me up, then handed me a bag without a "thank you" or "goodbye." To add insult to injury, as I was walking out, she turned back to the group of employees (who I really suspect she was acting out to impress her peers) and said (about me as I was leaving,) "it is ridiculous how some people can't even follow directions." Terrible customer service! I spoke with an online rep and they told me I could print out my order confirmation and return it in store. This location would not accept my return because I didn't have the original packing slip or box it came in. They were VERY RUDE and told me that what the online customer service said had nothing to do with them and that it was just too bad and I should keep everything from the package next time if I wanted to return it. I am an Ulta member and that made no difference either. Just an overall I don't give a shit attitude and it wasn't appreciated. And not the outright, I don't want to deal with being at my job rude, but rather a, i don't want to deal with the likes of you kind of rude. This isn't an accusation I make lightly or frequently because firstly, it doesn't happen often and secondly, because I don't give a damn. But when you're the only gig in town that carries my beloved eye cream (H2O Plus eye mender is great for under eye puffiness, ladies!) when I've forgotten to order it online, I'm forced to deal with you. So chew back that condescension, I've got money to spend. And I will never be ashamed to speak Korean in public, don't look at me like I'm crazy. Additionally, I had to return an eye cream that I purchased recently because it was the consistency of a balm, and not cream. I opened up their sample and it was also the consistency of a balm. I purchased a rollerball fragrance online and after only a couple uses the rollerball part broke off completely in the cap. I always take my kid and myself here for a facial. Chrissy is amazing. The girl knows skin care! And she doesn't try to sell you anything which is a big plus. She gets a 5 star. What doesn't get a 5 star is the little cubby hole they gave her for facials. Seriously, there's no door, people can just peak in. Laurie, I believe she's one of the managers, is also fantastic. I have been in this store a few times for facials and I have to say it is one of the best experiences for not a lot of money. There are multiple facial options from fast a easy to a solid hour. The facial massage was amazing and my skin is in great shape plus she gets your neck and chest too which some chain places don't do. The esthetician (Christy) really tries to make you feel comfortable and does a good job. It would be 5 stars but.. I don't like that the area where the facials are done is basically open to the store. Changing is an interesting experience so wear a tube top or tank top. It is uncomfortable knowing that someone could walk around the corner and basically look at you while you lay there although I don't think anyone would be that rude. I don't ever have an issue with what I am looking for here. But i don't like how the coupons you get are useless on practically 90% of the store. They don't qualify on any of the prestige brands, which is everything I like. I have been to their salon and esthetician too. I just had my hair cut by Erin, she took the time to listen to me and I was over all very happy with the end results. The facials are a little awkward. I tried them out only because a friend had recommended them. And they seem to always have openings. They have you wear the velcroed gown but you have to walk around the corner to the bathroom to change, in the store full of people. Thankfully they aren't terribly busy in the back by the restrooms but it's not always just women in the store. The area where you have your facial done isn't fully closed off from the other customers either. So someone shopping the dermalogica line can in fact walk in on you. I'm probably not going to go back for anymore facials but I will go back to Erin for my future hair cuts. read more

Had my makeup done and was not impressed. My makeup artist flitted around the store putting various samples of product on my face. I felt like she was trying to sell me on all the different products. Being in a hurry I didn't have time to listen to why this foundation and that blush were so amazing. The application of my makeup was horrendous, I literally cried when she showed me the finished product. Most of the makeup had to be removed afterwards because it was so heavy and thick, I could not go to my event looking the way I did. I was incredibly disappointed for what I paid and I will never go back there to get my makeup done. read more

I went to the salon at ulta to simply have my golden yellow blonde hair toned to a cooler shade and had a terrible experience. I asked for cool ashy blonde and ended up with mousy gray hair. I spent 4 or so hours there, two bleach washes to attempt to remove the gray and still left with a weird new shade of blonde with streaks of gray. I've never before asked for my hair to be toned cool and ashy and ended up with gray hair. I was also charged almost twice as much than I was told at the beginning. Very disappointing because I love shopping at ulta and typically have had great customer service. I feel as though I was rushed out of the salon with hair that was still unsatisfactory at the end of my very long appointment and charged an unfair price for the stylist's error.
