Decided to check this out based on mostly glowing reviews and the varied menu options that all looked appealing (Yelp photos). I had to double check that we were in the correct place when presented with the menu with only 3 items on it (burger, wings or tenders). We forged ahead as we had the place to ourselves and it was peaceful. Unfortunately the food we got was run of the mill frozen Sysco food that would barely be passable at a high school stadium, and all at gourmet food prices. The menu may have been limited because of Louder Than Life, but that wasn't stated anywhere, nor does it alter the quality. We also got charged for alcohol we didn't order. Despite that, the saving grace was our server Ashley, who was delightful. read more

Preface:If it wasn't so quiet I would score much higher! What did I take away from this experience? Let's start with the positives: the burger and loaded fries were really good. However, there are a few negatives worth mentioning. First, we parked in the back but were greeted with a sign warning of a $168 towing fee. There was no clear indication that this was the bar's parking lot (I later confirmed it is), so we ended up parking on the street. Upon entering, we walked through a metal detector -- a first for me at a dining spot -- into a beautiful old building that was eerily silent. The place was completely empty except for the bartender. No customers, no music, no background noise whatsoever. Initially, we were told we couldn't order burgers because they didn't have a cook. However, after seeing our disappointment, Amber kindly offered to make them herself if we agreed to let her know if anyone else showed up. This was a nice gesture and made for an easy conversation in the quiet space. There was an open mic comedy night about to start, which we didn't stay for, but it looked promising and could be a lot of fun. Without a doubt the worst 17 dollar hamburger we have ever had. A Wonder bread bun, unmelted Kraft cheese slice on a very thin heavily salted luke warm patty. Seriously, McDonald serves a better $1 burger! The fries were cold and heavily smothered in a sodium laden seasoning. Service was friendly and accommodating. The manager was very friendly and we did not convey our disappointment in the terrible food. The menu is very limited. Not sure what the earlier reviews are about. I'd much rather go to where the locals go than to the tourist traps downtown. Had a couple Manhattans and the pulled pork sammich with grilled green beans. Wow! So never in my life had I eaten a burger without condiments like ketchup or Mayo or mustard. That is how flavorful and perfect the gouda burger was. I did not need anything else, that sunny side up egg was runny and pure perfection. The place is very relaxed, you come in and find a place to seat. Make sure the server knows you arrived as there are areas not fully visible to her. The sides, I really enjoyed the fried Cauliflower side. The Cole slaw was my first time trying a vinegar based one and it was great bc I enjoyed how healthy it is. There are many other choices to try, the 2x1 promotion is only on burgers and it is daily 5pm to 7pm and ABSOLUTELY worth it! Big meat patty and plenty of bacon on them! Out with girlfriends we decided to try out 21st Amendment. We came at night so if you do the same, note that it's dimly lit, sits on a corner and has a gravel parking lot. We sat in the front room next to the bar. Our server was very friendly and attentive - his first day on the job. He was happy to check with the kitchen on my question about a starter. I ordered Not Your Mother's grilled cheese. The price is fantastic for the sandwich plus one side. I got the crinkle fries which I liked but thought the seasoning was odd. (Next time I'd get them plain) The sandwich was buttery and is complimented with flaming hot Cheetos. My kids would approve! I really enjoyed it and recommend the meal, especially with a King George from Monnick. The crowd wasn't overwhelming and it's an eclectic crowd. I have told several people about my trip here but can't describe the vibe, what it is or what it's going for. It's a large place, quiet crowd other than some people sang karaoke. Based on my visit and the interesting "smoking" by its visitors I'm not sure I'd be comfortable bringing my family back with me. This was the 4th attempt at visiting 21st. We successfully visited after they first opened but it had been too busy since then. We lucked into trying again before our event at Art Sanctuary which is just down the street. I had a Moscow Mule, the OG. Melt and loaded fries. The mule was incredibly sour. They definitely need to back off the line juice because it overwhelmed the drink. The melt was delicious. The cheese and bacon did not help the rather bland fries and the extra toppings were not enough to warrant a $3 up charge. My husband had a beer, the regular fries and the blt. He seemed happy with all of it. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to finish and none of it did well as leftovers. Overall, we were satisfied and would return. read more

While I was excited about this new addition to the neighborhood, we came back last night with a large group. Service for groups is always hard, but I won't be back here with any large groups. The menu has also been changed around and the late night menu has several unique offerings that would be fun to try but I'm not out eating after 11pm much. Portions on the appetizers were surprising- deviled eggs is just 2 eggs (4 halves) for $6. The Kentucky wontons were delicious but only 4 wontons for $9. The great balls of fire was the largest one with several grits balls- almost like hush puppies with lots of flavor. For dinner several in the group got burgers (they have impossible burgers as well). Imagine a comfy local dive serving artisan cocktails and top-notch food and that's 21st in Germantown to a "T." My dinner buddy and I wandered in on a late Sunday afternoon and, based on the online menu, weren't at all sure we were in the right place. I was expecting a restaurant with a bar and was standing, somewhat befuddled in a bar that I wasn't even sure was open. Finally, I sheepishly asked the bartender if they were open and serving food, to which he responded by handing us two menus with a resounding "Yes!" And we were off and running! The menu was definitely abbreviated compared to what we viewed online, but it did not disappoint. My friend had the ribs, fries, and smoked Gouda mac 'n' cheese while I enjoyed a BLT and onion rings. The ribs, dry rubbed and smoked to perfection, were absolutely on point while my sandwich, a simple standard, was anything but plain - stacked high with bacon, fresh tomatoes, and wonderfully thick-sliced bread. But the star of the show was by far the mac 'n' cheese. I love smoked Gouda but nearly every time I've tried it in mac 'n' cheese, the delicate flavor is lost and the result has been nothing but a sad, sad bowl of beige, sticky noodles. Offering a generous portion, they definitely upped the game here by throwing in a bit of spice, the heat from which really accentuated the smoke and flavor of the cheese and my friend and I were nearly fighting over the last bites. At the end, my sandwich, onion rings, and three ciders put me just over $20 and my friend's bill (which included a coke instead) was around the same, leaving us both food happy and overwhelmingly money happy. So, overall, be prepared for a changing but solid-quality menu. The atmosphere is very casual, so it might not be the prime choice for an important occasion. But even if the ambience is a little less swank, you can still very much enjoy quality food and bev at very reasonable prices. We wanted to try a local Germantown restaurant. Arrived 6:30 Thursday pm, we were the only guests to dine. One person at the bar having drinks. Greeted and seated and first round of drinks promptly ordered. From here on we had to flag down server for appetizer order, another drink, entree order and bill. The food was good! The cook delivered food and checked back on us twice. Everyone was friendly just a strange service experience. They have a nice area for a band and drinks in the back. Got Postmates yesterday from 21st Amendment. I haven't been before (CORONAVIRUS - Cardi B). It'd say it wasn't bad. A few exceptional things but not crazy amazing of a meal. I got the grilled cheese and tenders combo. The grilled cheese was good. Stuffed with flamin hot Cheetos. Nom. Overall still kind of basic but was the junk food I was craving after waking up from a night shift. The tenders were well made in house. Not frozen. Large pieces of chicken. Overall decent flavor but I did douse mine in "hot chicken" spices I have at home. Crinkle cut fries were ok. Pre seasoned with salt and pepper. Not amazing but decent. The house made bbq sauce was fantastic. I'd probably order from them again, but not something to shout about on the rooftops. I'd definitely like to check them out in person. A very confusing layout, where there were a bunch of little rooms with no clear idea what each were for. Only two had tables. The decor is very strange as well, its like someone tried to be kooky and bohemian with a random assortment of things but fell short. You dont have to do this guys, just clear out all the junk, add more tables and you will be golden. Anyway, I am here to talk about the food. The food was pretty darn great. My date had the Loaded Fries (House-cut fries topped with cheese. Served with bacon and green onion), and I had a bite of those, delicious! My entree was the B.L.T. (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and mayo on Texas Toast). Now the menu said I had a choice of sides, but I was only asked to pick one, so I opted for the grilled romaine hearts, which were good, but came cold. My other side that came were plain fries which were totally fine. We decided to try this spot on a Saturday around 530. We were the first to be seated for dinner. Our server didn't have a good grasp of bourbon when we ordered old fashioneds, but we overlooked this. I had the Canary Gal cocktail which was original and quite good. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and she brought me the rest of the cocktail that did not fit in my glass. That was a nice touch. I also noticed her explaining how she was making the old-fashioneds (muddling process) to other patrons that came in later. So the bartender gets high marks. We ordered the pretzel breadsticks and beer cheese and that was a tasty appetizer. We then ordered our entrées. There were four of us in our party. A salad and hamburger came out first. The burger quickly became cold as it took probably another 10 minutes for us to get the rest of our meal, two fried fish sandwiches with fries. Since it was obviously not busy that night, not sure why they could not come out of the kitchen at the same time. I tried my husband's green beans and they were so salty I did not have a second bite. The fish sandwich was good. The two checks were brought to us and were not right. There were three entrées on one ticket and one entrée on the other. My first time here, but not my last. 21st Amendment Tavern is a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. Lots of exposed brick and the old wooden floor from Fountain Ferry's roller rink make this place unique. I was joined by one of my best friends and we started off the night with The King of All Combos...2 Bavarian pretzel sticks served with bourbon beer cheese. The pretzels came out piping hot and had some kind of garlic topping on them, which blended nicely with the cheese. Lots of beer, cans and tap, on the menu, but I decided to try their Canary Gal specialty drink. Not too sweet, and served with fresh blueberries, this is definitely a winner. I had the cod combo with fries, 2 hushpuppies and Cole slaw. The biggest disappointment if the evening was the slaw. Too sweet and covered with an unnecessary amount of dressing, I couldn't eat it. The cod; however, was excellent. My friend had the Schnitzelburg/er with fries, and enjoyed it. The unexpected surprise was the bourbon ketchup. We decided to check out 21st Amendment Tavern for dinner last week, and it was great! I started with the Canary Girl cocktail ($10) which was made with Aviation gin, grapefruit and tangerine juice, soda, and house-made lavender syrup, then garnished with a rim of coarse sugar and dried lavender buds, tarragon, and blueberries. It was delicious! B opted for the 21st Amendment Manhattan ($11) which was made with Four Roses bourbon, sherry, angostura bitters, and house-made pickled peaches. It was so good! The peaches really made it something special. I could eat an entire jar of those peaches, they were that good! I wasn't too hungry, so I opted for a starter as my meal, The King of All Combos. It was a house-made bourbon beer cheese served with pretzel bites. And it was absolutely delicious! The cheese is of the more solid variety, and honestly at first I feared there wouldn't be enough (I'm a heavy dipper), but the dish was absolutely perfect! The flavor was amazing and the pretzel to cheese ratio was perfect. B chose The Bacon BBQ Cheddar Burger. It was great! I'm not always the biggest fan of burgers, but I really enjoyed this one. The bourbon barbecue sauce, smoked cheddar, and bacon jam were really a great combination. And I enjoyed the fries and house-made bourbon ketchup as well. The space is gorgeous! And it's really large. They have a large bar in the front, plenty of seating, and another bar in the back with a stage for live music. There's an outdoor seating area as well, but we just peaked out at that. It looks like it still needs some work, but everything else was fantastic! I love this place. I foresee many a night being spent here. I have been interested since they started renovating the former Cure Lounge building, hoping it would be something a little more in my wheelhouse. They have done GREAT things with the building, both inside and out. It now looks clean and inviting from the outside (which, in my opinion, it had not before). Inside, it is lovely and warm and welcoming. Lots of wood, exposed brick and warm lighting. Service the times I have been here is wonderful. The servers are friendly and the bartenders are great. The karaoke DJ is fun...(oh did I not mention there is karaoke? Because there is!) Beyond that, the food is tasty and the cocktails are good! I got the shrimp combo plate. The only thing bad on it was the hushpuppies...they tasted so burnt and so much like fryer grease...I didn't even eat a whole one. The shrimp itself was good, the red cabbage coleslaw was tangy and yummy, and the fries...well, you can never truly go wrong with fries. The beer list, both draft and in cans, in nicely varied and the options are fairly priced That said, there have been several hiccups in the few times I have already come. During my first visit, my friend wanted the thai iced tea cocktail, but they were out of the condensed milk so they had to order something else. I ordered this drink the next time I came it. I expected it to be more creamy...but then the "condensed milk" truly hit home when the drink came out. It all settled at the bottom, didn't taste like it was infused with ANYTHING, and it didn't mix with the rest of the drink. Condensed milk just clogging up the bottom of the glass and making it literally impossible to sip through a straw. Unless that is changed to some kind of cream that can mix with the drink, I won't get getting this beverage again. The next time I came in they were out of two things! First my friend and I wanted to share the pretzel bites and beer cheese...but they didn't have any pretzel bites. I think they could have offered to serve the beer cheese with fries instead, but that wasn't offered. My friend also wanted to end our meal with the Drinking for Dessert cocktail. A grown up milkshake. They didn't have any ice cream, a main component in the drink. But, apparently this was easy enough to run to the nearby Kroger and pick up. They have only been open for about a month, so I will chalk it up to growing pains and hope that they get everything squared away soon! I came in on Wednesday AM, where I was the only customer in the business, the bartender was my server and chatted with me, answer my questions, and showed me the place and talked me through it, and through their drinks list. Took my order "schenztleburger" + medium rare, hold the bacon. Came with the bacon and well done! I could say something and wait another 15-20 minutes or pull the bacon and eat it, I did the latter. The pattie was near flattened I wouldn't know why a half pound will be flattened, that's a diner style not a bar style, and make it difficult to cook to a medium rare or other degrees. I don't think that's a half pound patties any way, maybe a third at most. Anyway, it tasted acceptable. The fries were cooked well and seasoned, nothing too especial but were good. One of the most important things to me is good service, and the service here is excellent! This old tavern has been completely renovated and looks fantastic! The atmosphere is great here. Usually live music in the back, with Kareoke going on up front. Plenty of room to drink and dine with a sound level where you can still carry on a conversation. Another plus for me is the kitchen is open late! We can swing by here after a movie or something, and still get a great meal. This place is so new, a 2 star review doesn't reflect its potential. I will come back and hopefully leave a more positive review. Pros: Casual vibe. I am moving and was sweaty and tired. I wanted a place where showing up like that would be okay, but also wanted great cocktails. They delivered on the cocktails! I got the Green Phling which was similar to a Tom Collins. The mint comes from one of the staff's garden! the whole cocktail menu looked incredible. They have love bands every Friday and Saturday which was nice and not too loud. Staff was attentive and apologized for a "problem" in the kitchen. It was good to get communication from them that our food was delayed. In the bathroom they had one of those "ladies if you feel unsafe let staff know" which I really appreciated. Their playlist was bomb Cons: Our burgers were overcooked to the point of being dry even though we asked for them to be medium. My partner said they tasted frozen rather than fresh. The burger meat wasn't flavorful. The dressings were the best part of the burger. Our server (or the owner?) offered to have the burger remaid as we were paying which was generous, but we declined. We've been attempting to try out new restaurants via delivery service since COVID started, so each week has been an adventure. Decided to order from here because, honestly, I hadn't seen them on here before. They've got burgers, brats, sandwiches, Ky Wontons(check them out for yourself), etc. We decided to do The Schnitzel-Burger, which was a ginormous patty, with beer cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon. Fantastic choice, even if there were leftovers due to the burger being so big. We also did the Not Your Mother's Grilled Cheese, which is a grilled cheese, perfectly toasted, stuffed with flaming hot cheetos. Yes, flaming hot cheetos. I was in heaven. We also had the chicken strips, which was the only downside to the entire meal. They tasted burnt and very chewy, almost like nibbling on tree bark. The biggest surprise were the fries. Fries are my absolute favorite food, and I'm not sure what seasoning they put on their fries (whatever it was, it tasted like turbinado sugar was in it), they were phenomenal. By far the most disorganized bar/restaurant i have ever been to. Went on 9/17 the place was busy with bands in the back and people by the bar and maybe 20+ outside. There was only 1 bar tender working, no table servers. If you wanted food or drink you had to goto the bar, there were no menus till you got up to the bar. There isn't even a menu on the website. When I went to the bar to find out when my food would be ready the bar tender couldn't give me and answer and when asked for a refund due to the excessive wait time I was not given a refund. Food took over an hour to get to me, and the order wasn't even correct. I will not be making any sort of return. read more

Was in town for the weekend with friends and decided to check this place out. It sounded like a promising place but it was far from. There was no clear indicator of "seat yourself" or even who worked there or who was a patron. My friend and I had to assist the bartender by telling her how to make Moscow Mule. In addition, I purchased 2 drinks for $9.01 and rounded up the total to an even $12.00. We did not stay for another round. The following day I receive an email receipt for $21.01. I was thoroughly confused until I looked at it and in the "Tip" line there was a $12 charge... I always make a note on my customer receipt what the total is for my personal records. I am EXTREMELY irritated I was charged a $12 tip for excessively sub-par service. I hope this one night is not indicative of the normal business this place has. Visiting from out of town and saw this place was highly rated and food looked great. I got Yelp Catfished! I'm not sure if this is a struggling restaurant but the food looks nothing like the pictures. I ordered a med/rare morning burger with fries. Burger came out well done and 1/4 of the size shown in images. No Aoili sauce, and the bun was the saddest thing I've seen. Picture a bacon burger cooked in a dorm room by college kids with little to no money. The only reason I ate it was because I was starving. The food was also served on a paper plate vs the tin displayed. The manager was discussing partying after work and smoking weed and claimed she ran the place but didn't know how to work the iPad without help. I should have made another choice after walking in and discovering I was the only customer in the entire place. The manager was personable which is why I give this 2 stars. I could go on with the negatives but seems like the only thing going for this place is their karaoke and mic nights for young college kids. They seriously need to reinvest in the kitchen/food. I will not be back or recommend to others while visiting. read more

What used to be a place of wild nights and loud shows has now become a *somewhat* hidden gem in Germantown. This place has so much history, and it has never been more amazing. The food is the real star of the show, and they serve until midnight! My friend and I ate there three nights in a row if that says anything. You HAVE to get the deviled eggs and great balls of fire. The bartenders are inviting and prompt. There's even a take- out/ drink ordering window (which is some next level shit). You would be doing yourself a disservice if you passed this place by. Just go. Huge Bourbon selection. Moderate prices. I had a pretty good OG melt burger with tasty fries. Must have been bartenders first time making an Old Fashioned, ( sugar crystals at the bottom). read more
