Another solid meal from Troll Pub! With out-of-town family visiting, Troll is a uniquely Louisville experience. And clearly, Troll has stepped up their game. The beer cheese burger is a multi-napkin experience. Short of eating the burger with a fork & knife (sacrilegious, I know), it's gonna be a messy meal. The Reuben is getting close to perfection. Just a little less "butter" on the bread and the sandwich wouldn't be so greasy. But the pastrami was superb. And the sandwich had some "heft" to it. My chicken sub sandwich was packed with a grilled chicken breast, lettuce, tomato & mayo. It would have been excellent if the chicken breast was thoroughly cooked. It was thawed, but still cold in the center. All burgers & sandwiches come with hot and crisp fries or chips, if you prefer. And they do a great job with sweet potatoes fries. Service was excellent. Louie the Troll should be very pleased with himself.

We recently ate at the Troll Pub before a concert. We were asked if we wanted bar seating or dining and we chose dining, thinking it would be a little quieter. We were wrong!! There was a group of 8-10 older teens, a few of drinking age, who were beyond loud. I understand they were having a good time but in a small, enclosed area it's very loud!! Despite the noisy environment our food was good and service was decent for only one person taking care of our whole area. She did great and thanked us for our patience. I think next time I'll just stick with the bar area!

This was an extremely cool pub! Follow the Troll Pub signs from the main street and you won't miss the huge troll statue. The pub was a lot bigger than you expect and the menu is extensive. The hot wings, beer and cheese bread dip, and chicken tenders were all great options and you can share them with a group.

Really gorgeous back-alley-like outdoor space, which felt private for our large group that only stayed for drinks We ordered at the bar and brought it outside, for a gorgeous afternoon time to drink with friends

Interesting location & atmosphere. Loved the huge troll! Must go down steps to enter restaurant so might not be a good choice if walking was a challenge. Ordered to go & efficient service. It is close to the convention center so it probably gets very busy during the week. Ordered Fleur dip with fires & Grilled chicken sandwich with side salad. Both meals were fine & traveled well. Sandwiches were huge & prepared as detailed in description. If we had more time would have enjoyed eating there & hope to pop back in when visiting Louisville in the future.

This restaurant is near our hotel and we had to check it out! We went on Saturday night and it was pretty busy. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The place is big and I have no idea how many tables there are, but our service was good and pretty quick. The menu is pretty much pub food - fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches, etc. There were a number of things that sounded good! We both liked our meals! As far as ambiance - not much! It's under street level so there's no natural light. It got loud before we left because of a large table seated near us, but other than that it wasn't super loud. I'd go back!

Greta experience here!! We were here for several hours- drinks and apps, then meal, and then another round of drinks. We camped out here watching a game before heading over to Yum center for a concert. Service was great and food was delicious! Really good loaded fries app.

Traditional pub food and an excellent Kentucky Hot Brown. 9 of us traveling for our 30 th anniversary celebration. Neat vibe under the bridge. Tasty food and beverages

This place was so cool. We finished our night here and had great drinks and good conversation with the bartenders. Love the vibe and even found the secret door.

Tried this place the other day with the rest of the bachelor party for my soon to be brother in law and the food, drinks and service were just okay. The best part of this place was the story I heard about them digging feet of dirt out of the space to open the restaurant and it ended up becoming one of the most well known artist spaces in downtown Louisville. Definitely worth checking out but don't expect Gordon Ramsay levels of culinary excellence

This restaurant was recommended by the staff at the hotel we stayed at and omg was this some good bar food! My husband and I stopped in to grab some food in between our bourbon tours that were scheduled, so the team there was able to get us seated immediately and take our orders so we had enough time to eat and run. The vibe of this place is just what the name states. You even go downstairs to enter the restaurant which is not something you see everywhere! I opted for the Cowboy Burger as I am a sucker for the pepper jack cheese and onion combo. My burger came out cooked to my preference and tasted absolutely amazing! Before I knew it the whole thing was gone lol! Our server was also nice enough to cash us out before we started eating so we could head out as soon as we were done and make our next tour on time! Next time I'm in town, I'll for sure be a repeat customer of this spot!

    Do they deliver?

    Sorry. Troll does not deliver.

Do they allow dogs on the patio?

Looking for the same info! Hoping to find out!

Is the kitchen open until close?

I don't think so. I feel like I've went late before and the kitchen was closing like an hour or so before but the bar was still open.

Any gluten free food options other than salad?

I did not see any on the menu.

    What time does dinner start?

    About 5

Is the Angry Alfredo any good; if so how spicy is it?

I haven't had that there yet. Sorry!

Is there room for large parties? 25 or so on a Saturday night is a lot to ask

Yes. There is space, but I am sure you would have to call ahead to arrange it.

Is it really underground? Because I'm going to Kentucky tomorrow and on Monday I'll be eating there for lunch so I would also like to know is it a good place to eat at.

Yes, it's in a basement. Awesome atmosphere. Great service, especially at the bar. Lotsa fun cocktails. And food's good.

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

This place is quaint, nice location (on a corner ) decent seating, not a big outdoor dining area, the bar is long and has the memories of the old day saloon. Now the food; terribly good! Menu isn't extensive but good items and variety that will satisfy anyone's appetite. It was Father's Day but as soon as it opened they were quickly filled with patrons and people kept coming; even waiting to get in. The fries in duck fat were awesome. Since so many baskets of fries like this for a long time. The smoked wings are great, meaty and savory. I had the pork belly tacos; my only disappointment was you only get 2 per order. The fine combination of ingredients were splendid and the pork belly so tender. My wife had the bbq pork sandwich on pretzel bun. Very good tasting and this was with no bbq sauce on it. If you're in the area, do yourself a a favor and stop in. I can't wait to go back ( as we live in southern Indiana) so might be a bit but definitely want to try a few other items.

I started with a Sunset Spritz and looked over the menu, there are so many great options to choose from and I was really torn on what to get but decided on the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich (you can also get grilled or fried, but the bartender recommended blackened) and an order of sweet potato fries. The fries come with a side of a smoky pineapple chutney of some sort and even though I'm not a huge fan of anything that's really smoky it was absolutely delicious and a great combo. Seriously 10/10 recommend. The sandwich was also fire! I am extremely picky about sea food, especially since I used to live near the cost so it was always fresh and it definitely did not disappoint. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I spent most of the afternoon on a bourbon tour and a post-tour distillery so...food was needed. And quickly. In our mild defense, we didn't really know how the day was going to go or when we were actually going to have dinner, which made it a little tougher to pre-plan, but no research went into this at all and we paid for it. We wrapped up our bourbon adventures at the Angel's Envy distillery probably five or six blocks from here. Instead of being grownups and doing at least a quick/impromptu recon for spots, we literally just walked outside and down W Main St until we hit something. And we hit this, which was right on the edge of the main tourist area, pretty much Louisville's equivalent of the Times Square/MSG area. And as someone who works and used to live in NYC, you'd have to do a lot of convincing to get me to eat in that particular area - it's overpriced and the food/service just tends to not be very good, which makes you wonder what the appeal is for tourists beyond the convenience. But regardless, it's always struck me as an odd way for a tourism spot to put its best foot forward (or not). Doc Crow's is enormous, and when we were brought further into the restaurant to our table, I think we literally walked through three or four large rooms and navigated through multiple passageways. If you told me this place took up an entire city block or close to it, I'd believe you. Beyond the size/scope, there's nothing really distinctive that separates it from the myriad of other restaurants you'd expect to see catering to out-of-towners. It was the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, so a place that I suspect is usually pretty busy was even busier and louder than that. Maybe not the greatest recipe after a bourbon tour, but who can say. On the app front, we got the Crispy Salmon Bites, which were fine. Not an item I typically see on a menu, even one with more of a seafood bent. I thought the cornmeal/panko breading was the right call; I'm a big catfish aficionado, so I'm of the opinion that cornmeal is underutilized, at least in the Northeast where I come from. Otherwise, nothing really mind-blowing there; probably would have made sense for it to be a different type of fish given the prep (I think salmon is best raw in a sushi roll or grilled), but it could have been worse. I don't think a ton of thought went into this on my end, but I went with the full rack BBQ ribs, along with a side of mac n' cheese. Again, okay, though not as flavorful as I would have hoped and I thought the ribs were on the dry side. Not their fault, but I always regret getting the full rack in hindsight because ribs have a deceptively significant amount of meat on the bones and a half rack is a very decent portion by itself; I am a work in progress just like everyone else. The mac n' cheese was also pretty dry, which I think you can see pretty obviously in the accompanying picture. Tasted and felt reheated at least once or twice. The service was pretty efficient given how busy it was, but our waiter was just on robotic autopilot. Not remotely personable and everything I said to him was responded to with, "For sure, for sure." Maybe he was having a rough night to start the holiday weekend, but it felt like he was just going through the motions and just checking off some boxes there. I went into this already predisposed to not like the generic tourist trap places, so grain of salt. But my recommendation if you have the time/bandwidth (now that I'm a cagey Louisville vet) is to bypass this area if you can and find something tastier and more interesting in the Highlands neighborhood. That's where the real ones are.
