We were here with a large group celebrating a family event. Excited, noisy crowd, and the staff was outstanding. Managed to get us to order even though we were all distracted. They were on top of everything, really great job all around. I had a burger, excellent. The group had anything from salad to wings, and everyone had positive reports. The beer is OUTSTANDING. I stayed with the Irish Red, tried the House IPA, and both were top notch. Really great place. Good food, great beer, but like anywhere the ate staff is what makes the place - and the staff is incredible! Our waitress was Emma, and she was a serious pro with all the craziness happening. Service was good but the food is overpriced and sucked. My husband got the angus burger and I got the French dip. My French dip was very salty and the fries were seasoned at all. The Bloody Mary was over seasoned and kind of hard to drink because of that. They have sweet ranch just a heads up. I, on the other her hand do not. Beer is always yummy but if you're here for service industry night on Monday you may be disappointed... Supposed to be doubles for thr price of a single but the bartender told me it's premium only.. No wells.. The cost of a normal single shot of Jameson here is 7.50.. So service industry night is 7.50 for a jameson double... Plenty of bars where that is the price for a double every day... Us service industry workers work hard... Treat us!! :) On a side note.. The Sunday fish bowl special is great.. I believe they also have a pitcher special on a certain day and maybe a margarita special.. Lots of nice specials! Just not for us service folk. read more

The food was NOT good. The service was awesome! Our waitress was very sweet and knew her job well. The ambience was okay...weird lighting due to Christmas decor I think. Now the real reason for this review... the food. You do not get the quality they are asking you to pay. The food was all frozen/prepackaged and lame. Not at all worth the money that we paid. Came on Black Friday and they had a daily special of corned beef sandwich with drink or chicken salad with drink for $7. I ordered the corned beef sandwich which came with seasoned fries. The sandwich was mediocre but the fries were delicious. The seasoning on the fries had a hint of sweetness which was a nice touch. The sandwich was alright. It was slightly dry and was lackluster. The service wasn't that great here. It wasn't necessarily bad but just not very attentive. I probably wouldn't return here by choice but it's not a bad option if there is nothing open nearby. read more

Came in at 9:30 (an hour before they supposedly close) spelt horrible. Like sewage and chemicals. The hostess was incredibly rude and took a few minutes to come to the front to greet us. We arrived at 7:30 pm on a Wednesday night, were seated and ordered our dinner, but by 8:30 there was still no sign of any food. I asked to see the manager, but she wouldn't come out of the kitchen. The server told us that the typical waiting time for food is 45 minutes, which is just nuts. We got tired of waiting so at 8:40 we walked out. The place was not even that busy. This place is way too noisy under the best of circumstances. The servers seem inexperienced, so they must have a high turnover. The food is not great and overpriced for what it is. If you're looking for a sports bar, Johnny's (at 6th and Wakarusa) is a much better choice. The menu is similar, the food is better, and we've never had slow service there. read more

Decided to give this place a try again. My husband said we're not coming back. The total bill was more than all but one of our meals in San Diego and felt overpriced. Useful if you are a big group and need a broad menu but otherwise there are too many other great places in town to go. The fries has good flavor and texture but we're room temperature. They seemed to have been plated far in advance of the rest of the plate. Fish tacos come in pita, which we decided to try but are not fans of. The fish itself was prepared well and crispy but nothing spectacular. Bill Self Pasta was great as usual. Creamy pasta with Buffalo chicken, delicious. Lastly, the IPA, the Bitter Professor. I've been to the 23rd Street Brewery twice now. It's a bit pricey, but the portions are large, and the menu has a wide variety of dishes. It has a good atmosphere, and the building is pretty neat with the layout centering around the mash tanks behind the bar. The first time I visited, I got the Bill Self. As a fan of mac and cheese, it's hard to find this glorious comfort food done well. 23rd Street nails it! Topped with buffalo chicken tenders, it's a match made in heaven! I wanted to order it again on my second visit this evening, but opted to try something different. This visit, I ordered the Piper's Pip'n hot cajun pasta. It was amazing!! Cajun chicken, andouille sausage, and veggies, with a penne pasta, topped with sauteed shrimp and tossed in a creamy cajun sauce! Comes in 4 levels of heat, mild, medium, spicy, and very spicy. My wife ordered the basil pesto salmon, served with mixed vegetables. Equally amazing flavors, the only knock being the mixed veggies. It was broccoli with bell peppers and about half of an onion. If 23rd takes suggestions from Yelp reviewers, maybe less onions, and more broccoli, or possibly some cauliflower. Overall, service has been excellent on both occasions, the food has been amazing, and it comes out hot! We look forward to visiting again! read more

This place is one of those restaurants with plenty of variety in what you need. Pizza to sandwiches to pretzels to noodles and more. The chicken tenders and fries are a classic so how can you go wrong with it (make sure to order a side of honey mustard hahaha) 10/10 recommend Bill Self dish = mac and cheese + spicy chicken tenders = happy meal. Went to this restaurant for my birthday lunch, hoping for a simple meal and beer. Our waitress took our order and got 2/4 orders wrong. The pizza was not good in the slightest, had too much cheese, along with the toppings that I didn't order. Everyone in our group did not enjoy their meals very well, along with the high prices. Guess what, there's another brewery in town and it's mighty fine. Ok, it's not as famous as the one downtown and doesn't get enough recognition because it's overshadowed by that 800 lb gorilla that everyone thinks of when they think of beer in Lawrence.. I remember this location changing hands many times, most notably before it opened when the place was set to explode and they had to pour all the beer down the sewers of Lawrence. Seeing the streets of Lawrence run with unconsumed beer caused a part of me to die that day. A few years back this was the second location of 75th Street Brewery in Waldo and eventually they broke away and became a local establishment. I missed the beer mug club and the KC Rewards card, but generally the move was the right thing. The place has lots of local flavor, pun intended. You can get the Hank Booth Burger or a Bill Self. I can't remember what the dishes are, but it's darn fun to go to a place that has sandwiches named after famous people. It's definitely a sports bar with games playing on a variety of screens. No Langston Hughes salad :( The highlight of the place is the beer. It's really good beer! Makes sense for a sports bar. Decent variety , though it tends to be on the safe side. I'd like to see them branch out into funkier beers that have a bit more character. Vanilla Stout was probably the best beer I had there. I've never been disappointed in the beers. What I'd kill for is jalapeno beer in this town just once. Food is typical bar food with a bit more variety. My favorite is the fried pickles. Sinfully delicious. They are spears though and I prefer pickle chips. No big deal though. I'm only allowed to have them when I've been really good. Forget ice cream as an incentive: mama's gotta have her fried pickles. The nachos are awesome too and they are EXTREMELY spicy with those fresh jalapenos on top. You'll feel them a few days after and I won't go into more detail than that. They've got a new menu now that is about the friendliest I've seen to vegetarians. I'm waiting to try the peppers stuffed with couscous. Typically I get a nice calzone there or the goat cheese salad. Now, I'll most likely get the new Local Burger veggie burger there they sell in partnership with Local Burger in town. Mmmm. Gotta get the pub chips with that! I wonder if they'll name that one after me? Service is acceptable and can be spotty at times. It's what I'd expect in a college town. Some servers are awesome and some simply phone it in. When I've complained on occasion, I've gotten a very accommodating response from the management. Overall, expect great beer with an upscale bar menu that everyone can find something they like. When you are looking for good food and beer in Lawrence, and don't want to wait an hour for a table, check out 23rd street and be sure to have them name the veggie burger after me. read more

23rd Street Brewery has been around for a long time and definitely has found its place in far West Lawrence. If I had my way, there'd be more watering holes like this on the side of town that... well, looks like any other suburb in the country. Miles upon miles of mauve and tan houses, all neatly lined up, indistinguishable from the next. But I digress... the beer at 23rd St. is quite good. It's not my favorite in town (pssst, there's that other place downtown) but it's decent. Good, not great. Service here can range from good to great, another problem. The "other" place, those are salaried professionals tending bar and serving that have benefits, insurance, vacation, etc. These are largely college students servicing the clientele. Big difference. Good food, especially the pub grub dishes. Hard to beat a burger and chips with a couple of pints and when the weather is nice, forgo the inside which is uninspiring and try out their patio. A refreshing place to dine and quaff while the sun is going down, and you can catch the Royals on the tube outside during the summer. Who doesn't like that? I rarely get to this side of town for the purposes of entertainment but did so recently and thought it time to weigh in. This is a good place to hang, it just won't ever be my go-to destination for craft beers but that shouldn't stop you from dropping in for a pint or two. We're lucky to have 23rd Street Brewery in town and I'll definitely return. read more

Now this is my kind of place to grab a drink and a quick bite to eat! Micro beers? Yep. Drink and food specials? Sure. And they have a beer mug that is the size of a fish bowl (it might even be called that) and holds more beer than mere humans should consume. I usually sit at the bar and let one of the great bartenders take care of me but there are plenty of tables both inside and out as this place is huge. And if TV's are your thing? You can't sit anywhere in this place without being able to see your favorite sporting event from any seat in the house. The food is typical bar food although I do like the "naked nachos". Naked? Yep. The cheese and toppings come in a bowl along with plenty of chips for dipping. Dee-licious! Decent crowd too. 23rd Street Brewery is quickly becoming my neighborhood joint! read more

Great local brewery here. Really cool building on the inside. KU everywhere, a big open air silo type roof, and plenty of booths and different style tables. All the girls working were very friendly and helpful. The Royals were on the big screen which is an A+ for me! The beers are good. Nothing really spectacular but they're all drinkable and some are very good. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and pub chips for dinner. The house garlic ranch and pub chips are absolutely amazing. The sandwich was great too. My only gripe is the food is pretty expensive. I mean like $14-$15 per meal. Really great place for beer lovers to check out in Lawrence though. read more

First time here. It was really a cool space. Big multi-story dome which shows the brewing tanks on the upper floor. Tons of TVs with sports on them if that's your thing. Great deal on pitchers on Tuesday nights! Would highly recommend the Crimson Phog. Bavarian pretzel appetizer was great and the cheese was slightly spicy. The Original Brat was really good, but I'd rather have a normal bun than the bread it was served on because the brat kept squeezing out. The chips with garlic dip served with it were really tasty. I tried to substitute green beans for the chips and they wanted to upcharge $1.99. That's hard to understand why. read more

Easily the best brewery in Kansas. $3 pints for happy hour brewed to perfection on-site. The food is PHENOMENAL and the portions are generous to say the very least. There is something on the menu for everyone. The ambiance and energy in the restaurant is perfect for Sunday family dinners, casual drinks with friends or even a pregame before a night out... except.. you won't want to leave. The staff will treat you like family, they care for each other and every customer who walks through the front door. In a word, "meh." Waitress wasn't super friendly. I had to tell her I was ordering food for my child (she didn't even ask and started to walk away). My group waited for nearly an hour and a half before we got our food. Several orders in the group had something wrong with them. I ordered, "The Bill Self." Ordered drinks and the server partially spilled them on the table. Offered to wipe them up, but not to refill them. Our food order was pretty standard: burger, Reuben, and a classic calzone. 40 minutes after the order, they showed up: cold. My wife had an empty beer glass and wasn't ask if she wanted a refill. I've been here twice during lunch, while the meal takes forever to come out, the food is delicious. $8.99 for 1/2 sandwich, bottomless soft drink, and side of soup seems like a great deal to me. I got the 1/2 Hanni sandwich (basically a turkey club) and cup of chili. Chili is spicy-FYI, but I love spicy! The naked chicken nachos are also amazing. The chips are separate from toppings, so they never get soggy. Tons of food even for a 1/2 order. You will need a box. read more

We ordered for carry out two appetizers and three entrees. Our food was ready when we arrived although it was under only a first name. Our $100 of food was "common" at best. We ordered Naked Nachos. The dip for the chips was only barely warm and was the consistency of water. It was served with sour cream and salsa. We were surprised it didn't come with chips. The chicken strips were flat pieces of chicken very much over cooked. The pizza we were served was burned for about an inch around the edges. Not something that should be ordered again. Awesome. My first dining experience in Kansas (yohoho, I'm not in Cali anymore, homies), and it was great! Our server was amazing in accommodating the group of about 20 people. Service was fast, and we never had to ask for more chips or water. I ordered a side of the sweet potato fries, which were an insane deal. For $2.99, you get a HUGE basket of fries that could feed quite a few people. The salmon topped with sun dried tomato was amazing as well. The fish was grilled to a juicy perfection, and I loved the pretty grill marks. Good stuff, and would love to come back for more :) read more

I have had some decent experiences, and I've had some absolutely terrible experiences at this restaurant. The last time I came with my family and our food took more than an hour to come out with the restaurant less than half full. Our two year old was hangry, tired, and the waitress seemed as if she was annoyed when we asked for updates to our food. The waitresses are a bunch of local college girls who really dont do anything to improve the customer experience, and add no value to the organization. This is a sorry excuse for a brewery. Those who feel this is a 3-4 star place, should get out more... well leave Kansas more. As we waited for our flight, which i passed by as it sat on the bar on my way to the washroom, the waitress text'd and showed other people photos on her phone. There were 3 groups of people on the patio along with us and there were 3 recently empty tables. I know this because the waitress couldn't be bothered to clean up any of the tables. They sat that way the entire time we were there. Out of the 8 beers on the flight, 2 were decent. The waitress forgot one of the beers so we couldn't try it. She took forever to get us water and the check. She also never cleared any of the tables outside, which I am not a snob, but it was kinda gross. Anyone that likes to visit different breweries, avoid this place. It's not worth the effort. read more
