Our drain had been clogged since 11AM on Sunday. After trying to fix it ourselves, we called Roto Rooter (RR), who refused to give us a quote over the phone. RR plumber arrives late at 11PM and to snake the drain wanted to charge us $465 - highway robbery. (Side note: I was told by my insurance company who handles our tree root drain/sewer issues to NOT call RR because of this exact reason. He was dead on. Take note, folks!) I'm frantic at this point and the anxiety is about to make me implode - we haven't been able to wash baby bottles, use the dishwasher, flush the toilet, or use any water all day. Searching through Yelp and find this company. My husband calls - they're in Nassau County and wouldn't be able to make it to eastern Queens at night. They promise to come tomorrow at 7am. [All night I can't sleep because I've dealt with my fair share of flaky plumbers. I am bracing myself for my 4 year old's impending deuce the next morning, and how likely it will be that we'll not be able to flush it down. TMI - but I'm painting a picture here.] Around 6:20am Monday morning my husband receives a text from Mike informing him that he is 20 minutes away. (Praise the Lord!) He arrives, assesses the situation, and pretty quickly figures out the problem - grease clog 5ft in from the trap. Throughout the process he's explaining what he's doing and teaching us how to troubleshoot on our own next time. We found out later that we're actually outside of their coverage zone, but they came anyway. We cannot be more grateful for them - experienced and not out to gouge you. I had a sewer-line issue about a year ago, and 24 Hour Plumbing and Sewer made the experience about as good as it could have been. It's not just the quality of their work, which was excellent. The real stand-out quality of this firm is their commitment to great communication. Chad was a total champ in responding calmly and professionally to my many questions, and the crew (Danny and Courtney) were likewise easy to talk to and happy to keep me updated on what was going on. I think they really get that when someone calls them, that person is already under a ton of stress. Why is that is so hard for so many other home repair businesses to grasp??? I had a leaking waterline from the basement out to the spigot on the side of the house. I called Heller and they sent two men over to check it. The one older shorter man was very arrogant and didn't want to listen to what I wanted fixed while the taller younger man understood. The older man told me all of the shut off valves have to be replaced at $95 each. I told him I was only interested in the main line I wanted fixed. He told me the pipes alone are going to cost you $450.plus $95. for the shutoff valve. No written estimate as to confirmation as to what needed to be done, just an arrogant this is the starting price and we'll be back tomorrow morning. Being a retired senior citizen and working for the Manhattan District Attorneys Office for the past 36 years I knew what this sounded and smelled like. I can not give an honest review to their work because I didn't allow them to do anything and just told them thanks but don't come back. I had a leak in a first floor ceiling and called on a weekday in the late afternoon. Within an hour Warren arrived, and I cannot say enough good things about my interaction. Not only was he a pleasure to deal with but he clearly knows his trade extraordinarily well. He isolated the source of the leak (hot water pipes running through the ceiling) and removed/replaced the part that was leaking. Throughout the entire repair he explained to me what he was doing and was more than willing to outline his thought process... and this was after what I'm sure was already a long day on the job. The price estimate he gave before starting the repair was extremely reasonable, which I appreciated very much since due to the acuity of the problem and the time at which I called he could have taken advantage and up-charged. I usually do not give a full five star rating, but John the technician, who worked on replacing an old tub faucet was fantastic. I have been told for years by other plumbers, to replace the faucet would require massive plumbing. Now I will admit John was going somewhat in that direction; however, when I explained I did not need to replace the whole shower piping but just needed to be able to adjust the water temperature without having to use a long-nose plier, John agreed to give it try. After a little bit of uncertainty, here and there, John was able to accomplish what we've been wanting for more years than I care to mention. I also have to give props, as it was late in the afternoon when I contacted Mike about the job and he was able to send John over. I needed a plumber for a backed up kitchen and bathroom sink. I called on Friday (6/7) at 12 pm and actually spoke to a person! He listened to what my problem was and said someone could come in the afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30, and they did. Had a major leak in my dining room from my heating baseboard on a Sunday and to make it worse it was the Super Bowl. Thank God for google I found Mike and he came to the rescue. I couldn't shut off the water to stop the leak and he arrived at my house within 30 minutes. Replaced a copper pipe and did a welding job. Work was great and didn't leave a mess behind. Two (2) hours after he left I found another leak in the basement that was related to the job and called him back that night and agreed to come back the next morning to fix it with no extra charge. Came like promised and replaced the valve that was leaking. Price was a little much but I expected that on Super Bowl Sunday. Highly recommended!! read more

Basement flood took out 2 boilers and hot water tank. Mike and Warren came same day around 10pm for emergency service call. They had a well equipped work truck with tools and supplies needed to get the job done after hours. They didn't waste anytime getting to work, blew some water out of the pilot/burner assembly and reignited 1st boiler. 2nd boiler had shorted out and melted the rubber coating off of a couple low voltage wires. They replaced a burnt sensor along with some wires and had the 2nd boiler up in running in no time. The hot water tank being 13 years old wouldn't turn back on. Mike offered a very fair price to come back to replace it the very next day which happened to be a Sunday. Since I was not able to pull the trigger on the new tank, he agreed to assist for the time being by switching the feed line from the broken hot water tank to the more powerful tank-less on-demand 1st floor unit. read more

I tried doing minor plumbing under the kitchen sink; it was something I've done before but the outcome was a disaster!!! I text Mike, the plumber, about 11:30 pm figuring he would answer or call in the morning BUT I GOT AN ANSWER RIGHT AWAY. I was at work till 730 and he said he could be to me by 8ish. He came as promised!!! Not only did he, figure out the problem, fix the leak & install what I was trying to install, but he also explained exactly what happen & why it happened. He cleaned up the mess (including what mess I had made) & suggested that since the under part of the sink was wet for an extended period of time, to leave it empty & put a small heater to dry it out. I contacted 24 Hour Plumber and Sewer on a Sunday night, and got someone on the phone immediately. I told them I had a bad pipe leak in my basement, and needed someone the next morning at 9am. No problem they said, and the next morning, Warren E showed up, knew right away what the problem was, he gave me a reasonable estimate, and we planned for him to repair it that evening at 6pm. That evening at 6pm, Warren was there on time and began the repair, he found an additional leak (no additional charge), and within an hour and a half, it was completely repaired. I cannot say enough about the company and Warren. This is the company to call when you have a plumbing problem. USE THEM -- professional, fair $, and nice! My kitchen sink had been getting slower and slooower for ages but I just couldn't face having to deal with another plumbing service. But then I stumbled across 24 Hour plumbing on yelp and the reviews were SO good that I figured I'd try. I'm really glad I did. Mike (owner, I think) came the first time. My husband was home (I wasn't). Mike snaked the sink and it made the draining better but not totally fixed. So he charged only a bit more than half of the estimate. I couldn't believe how fair that was -- any other plumber would have charged the whole thing bc he came and gave time. Mike discussed options w my husband and left. Then it got worse and I called again and set up an appointment. This time I was home and my husband initially wasn't. Warren came and spent a bunch of time snaking the drain with a longer snake and when it didn't totally fix the problem charged NOTHING. I couldn't believe it. That was the fairest, most reasonable thing any service has ever done in our home. We discussed options for what to do next to diagnose the problem -- even though Mike had already taken the time to do this with my husband the week before. Also -- and this matters -- my sense was that I could safely leave Warren in my house alone. Obviously you're probably not going to actually do that but the point is I found him totally trustworthy. I haven't always gotten that feeling from people working in my house (including plumbers). I will definitely use these guys again -- whether to do more work on the sink or for whatever else we need (including a large job we're considering). read more
