My pup had come in for an eye infection and we got an appointment within 2 days of calling. We walked over and were a tad late (7mins) they I took us right away and got her set up. The nurse was so incredibly kind and understanding of our issues and was so transparent about audio and visual recording as well as proving so there was no surprise The actual veterinarian was so incredibly sweet. He was so comforting to both me and my pup. He made sure we both understood what was happening and how to get the medication to fix it. I also had a few other questions about weight which he walked me through and was able to get precise calorie counts for my dog. The veterinarian spent time talking in language I could understand while being so incredibly intellectually brilliant! Thank you so much!! Absolutely incredible service, they really took their time and let me ask my concerns and spoke with respect and knowledge. I usually go in the suburbs to my vet since it's closer but gosh darn it I'm about to call and see how much yearly shots are and get her over here! Definitely recommend this location!!! Only improvement is they're a little expensive, the copay for the visit was $125 which is a bit high for me-but I know she got the proper care so I don't completely mind! read more

If you have unlimited money and don't care whether your pet receives timely medical care, BLVD Vet might be the perfect place for you. I've been a BLVD customer for more than six years and have brought two dogs there. I've spent thousands of dollars with this practice, which makes this experience even more frustrating. On May 29, my 4-year-old poodle saw Dr. Nick Spano for her annual exam. She was ultimately healthy. The bill was almost $700 for a routine annual visit. During that appointment, I was told her ALT levels were elevated and that I should consider additional testing or an ultrasound, ranging from about $160 to more than $800. Two weeks later, my dog developed severe vomiting and diarrhea. I called BLVD the next morning during normal business hours because I wanted her seen by her actual veterinarian. Their advice? Go to the ER. Not after hours. Not on a weekend. On a Wednesday morning. My primary vet, the one I pay premium prices for, couldn't see a sick patient and sent me straight to an emergency hospital. Over the next few days, I spent more than $3,000 at the ER vet. As my dog's condition continued, I called BLVD again and asked about Metronidazole based on recommendations from friends, including veterinarians. I couldn't speak with a veterinarian. I couldn't speak with a vet tech. I could only speak with someone who schedules appointments. I was told they were "concerned," but apparently not concerned enough for an actual medical professional to call me. My call was around 10:30 a.m. The return call came at 1:03 p.m. Not from a doctor. Not from a tech. Another voicemail from the front desk telling me they couldn't help and to go back to the ER. Again, this was diarrhea. Not a complex surgical issue. Diarrhea. By Friday, BLVD had been so unhelpful that I went back to the ER. The ER vet prescribed Metronidazole without all the runaround. Since BLVD had already raised concerns about her elevated ALT, I also went ahead with the ultrasound. The result? No liver abnormalities, no pancreatic abnormalities, and no obstruction. Nothing concerning. Less than 12 hours after one dose of Metronidazole, my dog had normal stool and was acting completely like herself again. To be fair, BLVD's facilities are beautiful. If you want a spa-like experience for your dog, you'll probably be impressed. But if you want accessible veterinary care when your pet is actually sick, the ability to speak with someone medically trained, and recommendations that feel practical rather than expensive, I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere. I'm sure BLVD's response will mention "evidence-based medicine." What I experienced was a $700 wellness visit, costly diagnostic recommendations, repeated ER referrals during normal business hours, no access to a veterinarian or vet tech when my dog was sick, and more than $3,000 in ER bills. You can decide for yourself whether that sounds like good veterinary care. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. We trusted Boulevard Vet to help us as new parents to our 8 month old, 8 pound puppy. He had non-stop, bloody diarrhea on 7/10/2026. We took him to the River North location - where we have been patients since 1/2026 - for help. He got sick again on their office floor. They sent us home without giving him fluids, with a probiotic that would take "several days to kick in" and told us that he was underweight (after months of telling us to reduce his food and watch his weight). They also asked us where he had been neutered and where we heard to reduce his food - all of which was told to us by the vets at Boulevard. He continued to deteriorate for the next 2 hours and started violently shaking and yelping when I tried to pick him up. I rushed him to the emergency vet, where they were very concerned and admitted him for 2 nights (7/10/2026 - 7/12/2026). Had I listened to the recommendation from Boulevard Vet, who knows what would have happened to our little guy. When I called to tell them what had happened and how upset we were, they claimed they did nothing wrong and that "hopefully he would recover" - completely lacking empathy. They also would not reimburse us for a $300 visit (where they did nothing to help our puppy), just solidifying that they do not care about the wellbeing of pets or parents. I'm wondering if perhaps there has been a replacement of vets in the last few years? Yes, they are not inexpensive, we go in expecting that each visit will run us between $300-$450 for whatever services are needed. But read below... However, the River North Location has quickly become our favorite location of the BLVDs for our senior boy. We recently met with Dr. Courville (had previously seen Dr. Newman), and Dr. Courville was kind, patient, thorough (and when you are spending a lot of money on a service, this is where I am absolutely a-ok doing so! you get what you pay for!!). Dr. Courville was just a GEM. You can tell she really cares for every animal that walks into the doors. Grateful for her guidance and support during our last visit. read more

I was looking for a local vet near my apartment in River North since it had been a while since my cat's last check-up, and I came across Boulevard Vet. Setting up the initial appointment was super easy, and the staff was friendly and helpful over the phone. On the day of the appointment, check-in was quick and smooth, and they were right on time with no waiting around. The vet assistant was fantastic and super friendly, helpful, and in a genuinely great mood, which made the whole experience feel more relaxed and welcoming. The vet herself was great, too. She was thorough, knowledgeable, and took the time to clearly explain everything about my cat's health and what was needed. I also really appreciated how transparent they were about the services and costs. Since it's a downtown vet, prices can be a bit higher, but the assistant sat down with me and broke everything down, helping me understand what was essential and what could wait or was optional. All in all, while it's not the cheapest option, for basic care like annual vaccines and especially for the convenience of being walkable, Boulevard Vet is a solid choice. I would rate zero stars if I could. Exorbitantly expensive and provides the same expertise as a google search. When asking for an opinion on a path forward I was provided a laundry list of options and then told it is my responsibility to choose, with no further guidance. I understand my pets are my responsibility however, I would expect further value for the cost. Vet was extremely condescending and made me feel as though I were lacking as an owner. I won't lie and say it's not expensive, but it's honestly pretty hard to find veterinary care that's not expensive especially if you're in the city and limited to just a few nearby. It also gets pretty hard to find appointments at a late notice but they have more slots than other vets in the area. The care we received have honestly been great, Dr. Blanchard is friendly and you can tell she cares about your pet and how they are feeling. My pup is pretty terrified of vets because he's honestly scared of everything, loud noises, strangers, and he's the type to get startled if the leash touches his butt or scream when a bigger dog steps on his paw. So he's especially fearful of vets where he obviously gets probed and poked by strangers, and will resist pretty hard and try to wiggle out to run away. At BLVD, Dr. Blanchard and BLVD staff have been very patient trying to work with him! The doctor, vet techs, and the front staff are all very welcoming and kind, and they also keep the office super clean, which is always nice to see. My dog is very young and we haven't really had any major health issues of concern so I can't speak for anyone needing bigger treatments, but other than checkups and vaccinations, my dog's had some smaller concerns like being bitten in the leg by a dog at the dogpark, chronic diarrhea, eye infection, and BLVD staff have been great in my experience, and I'm pretty thankful we live so close by. read more

I knew it was time for a change and when I did some research and kept seeing BLVD Vet pop up with rave reviews, I thought I'd give it a go. They were FANTASTIC. For her first appointment, they were thorough asking all the questions on her history, home life and all the little details - while being excited to actually interact her. I started by calling at 4:45pm on a Wednesday, hoping they could get me in, they were unable to, but the lovely young woman I spoke to named Julia at the Logan Square location was able to get me an appointment the next day at River North at 9:30am. Which was amazing in my experience. My kitty was not doing well and having some serious stomach issues. Emma and Dr. Chen were AMAZING. I can't say enough about them. They were gentle, considerate, and understanding the concern for my animal. Provided me all the information I needed, took care of my baby, and made her feel safe and cared for. In the future I will be taking my cats here and recommending anyone I speak to, to go to this doctor. read more

This place is very well kept and clean but omg is it expensive. Like, arm and a leg expensive. Requiring owners to pay the vet exam fee when they return for booster vaccines is what made me switch to a different provider for my dogs. I am only there for the vaccine - why make me pay $140 just to step foot in the exam room?(I have two dogs) Seems exorbitant and then $130 total for a dual series vaccine? Just a single vaccine? Update: Well, first of all, my google review is no longer posted. Somehow, it was removed....Guess you can also count on Yelp to give you reality! Second, Marina did reach out to me and I was able to talk with Dr. Chen. However, after one round of email exchanges, I was ghosted. I had an appointment for a vaccine coming up and decided to cancel it due to their responsiveness. I emailed them by replying to my last email that was left on "read" and got a response a few hours later, 1) confirming that they are going to cancel my appointment; and 2) Dr. Chen's response was sitting in their "draft" inbox and for whatever reason was not sent. Now, to comment on my email exchange with Dr. Chen. She was very informative. However, the exchange was very general. She was slightly empathetic to my situation and explained in detail the medical diagnosis and the process. However, it did contradict the experience I had with Dr. Newman. The only thing that Dr. Chen said that lined with with the second opinion Vet was that there may be an option for conservative care. What was disappointing was that Dr. Chen did not acknowledge the fact that what she was saying contradicted what Dr. Newman said. Of course, I did expect Dr. Chen not to throw her fellow vet under the bus. But, there was no acknowledgment at all regarding how my communication with Dr. Newman went, after re-iterating it again in detail. Dr. Chen did explain in detailed what a CCL tear/surgery is and alternatives that may be an option for my pup. But these were going to be given in the ortho consult, which is the next step for DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT. But the conversation I had with Dr. Newman was that she found a CCL tear and the next step to schedule a visit with the orthopedic surgeon and then surgery. There were no other options. Surgery was the only choice for my pup. Dr. Chen said, "Ultimately, Dr. Newman made the recommendation for an orthopedic surgeon consultation, which would be the first step towards a diagnosis and treatment. It would ultimately depend on the surgeon to make the decision of whether or not Addy is a good candidate for surgery. From personal experience, there've been many times where surgeons would make the recommendation of conservative care and not surgery." However, Dr. Chen did say that they will learn from this experience and offered a credit to my account for my next visit. I replied to the email that day on 1/5 and have not gotten a response. Seems although the issue was just going to be brushed under the rug. I do hope that changes are implemented as BLVD Vet was amazing to us until this last visit, which has had us change vets. From a legal perspective (I work in the legal field), Dr. Chen handled this situation well from a legal standpoint, however, on a customer service/retention standpoint, it was lacking. My friend and I were very impressed with Dr. Grace Chen and her team at Boulevard Veterinary in River North. This wonderful clinic with high standards of care and core values is very focused on providing an excellent visit experience and follow up afterwards. When my Siamese kitty Lucy became ill on a Sunday evening, Dr. Chen was following up with Lucy's emergency care team the next morning. This provided a great deal of peace of mind for me during this difficult time. I also appreciated the AAHA accreditation that distinguished and differentiated Boulevard from other clinics. read more

Danger. I didn't find out until it was too late that there is an entire private Facebook group of hundreds of people who have had dangerous experiences at BLVD because of their carelessness. 1. My dog was in neurological distress. I sent a video. They said "it looks like nausea let's check in in a few days." I shared it with a friend and her vet replied that it was a seizure and to go to the ER. BLVD had no reply to this. After waiting for months to get into a neurologist I found out that the medication BLVD prescribed my dog was known to cause seizures. The medical gaslighting is the most this place has going on for them. 2. My dog was sick. Diarrhea, excessive shedding and a bump on her skin. They prescribed a probiotic and if it didn't help, she authorized an antibiotic that should be started no later than 24 hours from now. When I called to get it the front desk said there was no authorization and they would hear from that vet tomorrow. Even though it was authorized. 3. The BLVD vet laughed when I shared my dog was excessively shedding which my new vet found was linked to an allergy that was the reason for the diarrhea. 4. My dog is allergic to chicken and after several appointments they never suggested it being an allergy. 5. I have never known a vet's name or had the same vet. The turnover rate is huge and the vets I have had have shared how unhappy they are there. 6. The staff is arrogant, condescending and rude. 7. Overpriced. 8. Uninformed 9. When I asked the vet to look at the bump she felt it and said "doesn't feel good, but that's not what we are here for today" 10. I have now talked to dozens of pet owners that have left BLVD for similar reasons and worst including faulty surgeries, mixing up medications and files and more. They offer people money in exchange for an NDA. I hope this helps save someone the money and dangers of putting their pet in the care of BLVD. Do not go here if you care about your pet. read more

Went in to get our yorkie up to date on his vaccines and they were adimant on us getting a bunch of other things he had already recived and didnt need. After we rejected they had another staff memeber come and guilt us into getting more stuff. Be careful going to these places down town. We all act out of self-interest - it's basic human nature. When I choose a medical provider, I tend to defer to their experience and expertise, and assume they will act in my best interest. My naiveté led me to assume the same is true for veterinarians - our new puppy and our wallets were unintended victims. This review is not meant to tear the place or its vets down in any way - it is just an honest recount of incidents that happened over a month ago. We have since switched vets and I would not have reviewed BLVD if we did not have an amazing experience with our new vet. All experiences are relative and I would not waste my time if all vets and practices were doing what BLVD is doing. Without getting into the torrid details of our experience, I wanted to state that everyone we met and worked with at BLVD was very nice, courteous, and friendly. Unfortunately, that is where the positives stop. We went to see Dr. Chen - she heads the practice at this location and we figured she would be the most senior vet there. It didn't dawn on us at the time that she likely got to that position by making them the most revenue, and is probably responsible for the financial health of that branch. As you can imagine, this led to a lot of unnecessary services and prescriptions being pushed. I do not begrudge anyone getting compensated for their hard work, but not at the cost of my puppy's wellbeing. Dr. Chen put our puppy on an antibiotic course to deal with some redness she had on her hind legs. Our puppy had her spay appointment about a week after that, and she said that there should be no problem at all being on antibiotics for the procedure. WRONG - Spay Illinois, as well as ALL credible spay organizations, clearly state that puppies cannot be on antibiotics for spay/neuter surgery. When we asked BLVD about this, they stated that they don't have an issue with it when they perform Spays. Great - so now you're a practice that is either ignoring widely accepted safety guidelines, or think their (relatively young) veterinarians know better than others in the industry that have been doing this a lot longer. I truly suspect they thought we would decline the antibiotic course if they told us and they would miss out on selling us a 14-day course at an egregious markup. We drove over an hour each way on our pup's spay appointment date only to be turned away. In my eyes, this is either ignorance or greed - both of which are unacceptable qualities for a medical professional. Continuing on the topic of pill-pushing: Dr. Chen seemed scared to get close to our puppy, which is an odd trait to have as a vet. Our pup is playful and rambunctious - she's a 6-month old puppy after all. She is not dangerous in the least - she doesn't bite, or scratch, but is rightly cautious with strangers. Given the distance she maintained in both of our visits, I can't imagine her giving my pup a thorough examination. For her, this normal puppy behavior warranted her strongly (and repeatedly) suggesting we put our pup on Trazodone (an SARI used to treat depression and anxiety). I strongly suspect that no matter what her temperament, they would have pushed this drug for some reason. Finally, I would expect a Vet's office to understand insurance and how it functions. On our puppy's medical record, they stated that she was scratching since we got her. We did not provide them with that information, so I suspect the vet tech misheard us and noted whatever he wanted down. As a result, our puppy has now been labeled as having a pre-existing condition that is not covered. You would think that BLVD would do everything in their capacity to make this right - instead, they dropped us as a patient and took no responsibility. Classy! I know how challenging it can be to keep everyone happy - I'm sure running a veterinary clinic is not easy. I do not take writing reviews lightly, and reviews like this are hard to take for a business. That being said, it would be irresponsible of me to NOT post this review given the care and well-being of our furry friend neighbors. read more

We're big fans of BLVD - We've brought our golden retriever puppy Lucy to Boulevard since she was 8 weeks old (she's now about 9 months) and we've only had great experiences here. And we've had A LOT of experiences - we joke that Lucy was a 'frequent flyer' at the offices here as she spent a lot of time being a puppy living in the city aka eating everything off the sidewalks. The staff (vets, techs, front office) are all organized, courteous and compassionate, and went out of their way to help Lucy on multiple occasions. BLVD was always upfront about cost and we've never felt nickel and dimed here (vs. we felt the complete opposite the one time we took Lucy to a different vet in the neighborhood when we couldn't get an appointment with BLVD right away). Saw some of the other reviews here mention that the BLVD team seems especially busy at the moment but we have always felt like the BLVD team made every effort to help get Lucy in when there was a need. And even when she didn't need to come in, we felt especially grateful the team went out of their way to answer our questions and offer their advice in the meantime. I've had two instances on separate occasions where my dog has been sick or an emergency situation popped up while my current vet was closed. I tried numerous animal hospitals in California and was told there would be a 12 hour wait time to be seen. I recently moved to Chicago from SoCal. I found white segments of a tapeworm on my cat last night. It was gross & I was really worried I wouldn't be able to get her in since we're new to the area. I'm also a full-time law student with a full schedule, but LUCKILY, they had an opening this morning because of a cancellation, and they were able to see us! The lady I spoke with on the phone was informative. My cat and I were greeted when we got there. The doctor was so sweet; she went down to talk to my cat and explained everything to me. The vet tech was also fantastic! They were affectionate and caring with my cat, I felt very comfortable with the entire experience, and I trust them fully! I called first thing in the morning as my dog was having an allergic reaction and they were able to get us in that morning, even as a new patient. We are new to the city, this was our first visit to Boulevard veterinary, and my dog was very scared as he was out of his comfort zone in a new place and not feeling well. The team here were very kind, understanding and patient with him. Dr. Gabby and her team were able to treat him quickly and get him back to feeling his best! Full disclosure before I start-I was 8 mins late due to extreme traffic. I called to let them know and it seemed fine, but not sure if that set the tone for the visit. Also, still requiring masks which is odd given that you can sit next to someone on a plane at this point with no mask on. Moving on-my dog of 13 years has some huge welps on him filled with puss and I brought him in desperate for help. I had been to Vetco where they told me to use Hibiclens and Cortizone which helped, but more showed up. I decided to get him to a "real vet". I sent those records in advance and filled out all paperwork required. She went straight for his teeth saying I needed to do something about those (not my priority as he has puss-filled welps all over his body). She barely looks at the infected areas and immediately tells me that "unfortunately this may be a long road to discovery and that it may be auto-immune or cancer" instead of offering solutions, or a plan to start. I immediately began asking questions, as anyone would when she started throwing out possibilities and she stopped me and very condescendingly told me that it was her job to tell me all of the information. In my opinion, it is her job to start solving the problem and maybe mention something as drastic as cancer after giving the plan. Just a thought when you're dealing with someone who's desperate to help their dog of 13 years. She took my dog behind a closed door and did a skin test on him, which she said came back with almost no bacteria (how?) and due to her manner and the fact that she did not seem to have any urgency about his wellness, I decided to not engage any further. She sent me home with a medicated shampoo that was $33 and told me to give him some baths and wished me luck basically. I was told that with no bacteria present, she would not prescribe any medication for him. She told me if I want to have him tested for cancer we could schedule something in 2 weeks and that she would have to put him under. I was crying at that point. Very insensitive and not helpful. I have since taken my dog to the burbs to his old vet, just thought this would be really convenient since I live in the lofts above the vet. He prescribed him some medication and was very alarmed that she sent me home with shampoo and no antibiotics, as he could immediately see there was infection. He did bloodwork, prescribed medication and a completed a full exam for $255, whereas I wasted my money at Boulevard River North, spending $170 for absolutely nothing. They called to check in after the visit and I didn't answer. I waited this long since my visit 2 weeks ago because I did not want to sound as angry and upset as I was. I needed time. We will not be back. I also told my neighbor who has 2 dogs about my experience because he is new to the building and looking for a vet. It seems there are people that have good experiences, but I was very disappointed and they wasted my time and money. One more note: I tried to get in for his vaccinations prior to this and they were very rude when I called and not accepting new patients. read more

Walked over to ask about scheduling appointment as a potential new client. There was a very rude woman working the front desk who completely dismissed me. She said if I wanted to make an appointment I should call over the phone (she was doing absolutely nothing at the time). I was right in front of her SMH. Absolutely terrible service. read more

This place ONLY cares about money. My dog is 16 years old and has the same issues his entire life. Every appointment (almost monthly) for the last two years we have to test his ears for yeast. Instead of every single other vet just treating because it's an ongoing issue, we have to test. Guess what? It's always yeast. He has had a heart murmur his entire life and every visit they try to test his heart. HE IS 16! Today my boyfriend took our dog without me and the vet made him so uncomfortable he let them test his heart. $450 later guess what??? HIS HEART WAS FINE! I'm so done with this place and will be telling everyone in the River North Neighborhood along with my friends at PAWS and FCACC. read more

As a new pawrent, I had the normal anxieties. I went in for unscheduled appointments whenever there was the slightest change is my pup's coat, behavior, or bathroom routine. The clinical team does a great job over the phone helping you assess if you really do need to come into the office. They won't waste your time and money if they don't have to. Dr. Chen patiently listens and is not at all dismissive of your concerns. I really appreciate her as a vet and my Saffron really trusts her. Highly recommend. read more

I found BLVD on Yelp when I was living in Chicago for a year and it was always an amazing experience. Every doctor and employee there was always so kind and helpful. My dog was attacked during my time there and this staff made me feel so much better because they were giving my puppy the best care and had her come for frequent rechecks. read more

We recently got a new puppy and finding a great vet was really important to us. We were recommended to Dr. Josie at Boulevard and we couldn't be happier! She's very hands on and super knowledgeable. Being new pet owners, we always have lots of questions and she has patiently walked us through every step of the way helping with everything from diet and allergies to potty training and doggy daycare recommendations.
