Venue: 4/5 Super easy to get to by car, with lots of parking in the plaza near Vaughan Mills (by Bass Pro). It would be a bit of a pain to get to by transit from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre though. Inside, it's spacious and open, with a massive wine rack right at the front. They also have two separate areas: the main dining room and a "next door" section that's basically its own room, which is nice if you want a slightly different vibe. Service: 3.5/5 They get busy (like "book days in advance" busy), so service can be a little inconsistent. Sometimes it took a while for our server to swing by, but food came out in a reasonable timeframe once we ordered. Definitely recommend reserving ahead. Food: 3.5/5 Big Italian menu with lots of pasta and pizza options, plus mains like chicken parm, lamb chops, and branzino. The wine and cocktail lists are extensive, which fits the whole "giant wine wall" aesthetic. The Caesar salad was honestly the standout, really well done. The starter bread was a miss for us: a bit stale and not warmed, like it had been sitting out for a while. Dessert, though, redeemed things. The dessert menu has a lot of variety, and the toffee dessert our server recommended was great, especially with the vanilla ice cream. First time at this restaurant. Food was decent but service was extremely slow and lacked effort. It all started right at the hostess stand. I had a reservation and when I got there, the restaurant maybe had 3-4 tables and the rest was empty. I was told by the gentleman to wait and he will seat me shortly. I was a bit confused. When I was then brought over 5-10minutes later, I was sat at this tiny duo table out of all the tables available. My friend spoke up and was like we'd prefer the corner booth. The host made an ordeal and started asking servers if that was ok and hesitated to seat us there. We had a server come to us 15 minutes later to greet. After getting an appetizer, our server never came back and someone told another server to come to us. No introduction or sharing of the switch over. We constantly had to ask for our server to get our meals ordered, our drinks and finally our dessert... it was a bit frustrating and I'm sure guests in the same situation would have felt the same. read more

We went there for Valentine's dinner and was greeted by a man whom we showed our vaccine passport. It was followed by a friendlier host who sat us even though we were early. To our surprise, there was a gentleman who performed live music in English and Italian. The entrance was dim and romantic with one spectacular chandelier. The rest of the lights were more rustic. I have to say first, the service was not the greatest for an Italian place. And then came the bread which was stale!! Shocked!! Bad bread!!! The menu was extensive and it also had a special menu for tonight. We both ordered pasta dishes. My partner had the veal bolognese which he devoured it. He did say it was too "tomatoey" for him. I had the seafood linguini which had a nice presentation. The pasta was chewy. There was not enough seafood, for a seafood dish! The sauce was good. After I paid, the receipt was thrown at me and no evening salutations. What?? I didn't like that. Leaving the place, I don't think I'll be back. The best part was the live music. I should preface by saying that I love Italian food and have tried a lot of places in TO, so I have high standards! An amazing Italian restaurant, I would definitely recommend it. The main draw is the food. I have tried a few of their pastas so far; the Paccheri Bolognese (as you can see in my Yelp bio Bolognese is my go to!), the Spaghetti with Rapini and sausage, and the Pappardelle al Coniglio, and the Gnocchi Pistaccio and they've all been delicious. It's easily one of my favorite pasta places in the city. For appetizers I would recommend the Polenta Fries (we get them every time), the mascarpone, spinach, and artichoke dip, and the calamari. The location of the restaurant is good as well. Located in the Village at Vaughan Mills it's just off the Hwy 400 at the Bass Pro Mills Drive Exit. I have family living north of the city so it's a great spot for us to meet them and then go to Vaughan Mills after if we have time. The restaurant has a small, well decorated interior and and a patio for the summer. The service has always been great too, they've been very nice every time I've visited. It is a busy restaurant so we usually make reservations and they've been nice enough to fit us in a bit earlier even if they're pretty much full. Just give them a call to make reservations. Overall, I would highly recommend 255 by Alta Rossa. It's a great Italian restaurant. I'm glad I was introduced to it! read more

Worst customer service ever!!!! Nightmare!!DON'T GO! The food were prepared slow and we ordered July 28th's special T-bone Veal to be cooked as medium. However it came as well-done and tasted really really dry. The waitress said she would ask the manger to do something for it. But we didn't hear back until the bill is ready. After a long wait, one old lady named Pat came as she is the manager, probably she is the owner. After we told her the problem, she asked "did you eat it?" "What would you like me to do about it?". It was so rude to ask customers these questions, like all we want was just getting waive of $29 from the $300 bill. We had been very patient during the whole waiting for their response. She didn't even say any apologized word to show she cares. I have been to many Italian restaurants in the neighborhood but this is the worst experience ever. It was so offended to be treated like this so we just paid them and walk out from this terrible place. Although this is a family owned restaurant, good customer service is always valued and will bring sustainable growth of a business. I have to say the way the manger/owner talk to us was totally unprofessional and outrageous. Her attitude ruined the whole experience. Was quite excited to try the pasta here based on the previous reviews, however, there were a few things I feel the restaurant can improve on. - Service of food from appetizers to entrees was extremely long. I and many others around us at several tables waited for quite some time just to receive ask for the bill, plus a little longer just to receive it and pay. - The food itself was tasty and the pasta (especially the gnocchi was great). However, it was heavily soaked in sauce that took away from the actual pasta. Let alone the extra $5 charge my friend received for spinach... there were probably a few spinach leaves (not even a handful) but mushrooms were less than a dollar. - The outdoor layout has two separate sections that I think may be a disadvantage to the staff. One part of the outdoor seating is isolated in a corner that isn't seen right when you walk into the tent, and that could be the reason as to why it took so long for this area to receive service. read more

We were celebrating a birthday ! Food was excellent. Kudos to the chef ! Thus the 2 stars The service was more than disappointing. We had not even finished our dishes than the waiters were taking away our plates, clearing the table. It happened at least 3 times, to the point that we had to ask if we were on a clock! I had to ask 3 times for a coffee refill. And, once we paid the bill (not a small amount) , the cherry on the sundae was when the manager came to our table letting us know that they were people waiting to come in. Truly where has the pleasure to sit at a table at a restaurant and leisurely enjoy a nice meal while having a friendly conversation !! Apparently it is now all about fast and cash-in ?? I don't know why this place doesn't have more reviews, it's a great little restaurant tucked away near Vaughn Mills shopping center! Immediately when I entered, I was impressed by the expansive ceilings and wine menu. We ordered a margherita pizza to share, the butternut squash gnocchi, a vegetarian pesto penne pasta, and the orange & apricot salmon. The margherita pizza was nothing to impress - couldn't really taste the basil on it and the cheese was too runny. Both pasta dishes made up for this though, as they were flavorful and portion sizes were extremely generous. The orange and apricot salmon was also soft and well cooked, but the apricot taste was a little off-putting to be honest. It was on a bed of rice with black beans, which were yummy but perhaps not the best pairing for the citrus salmon. Throughout the dinner, our server was extremely kind and attentive, even when a larger party came in for a dinner party. If you're in the area, I'd recommend this place. If you dine downtown you get half the portions for this price, and you have to pay parking! read more

We had last min plans to have dinner in Vaughan so I looked this place up. It was only 6pm; it was already packed, (good sign). They kindly offered the choice of sitting in the higher communal table for a longer period, or the bar, or a table w/ limited time of just over an hr. (I completely understand as we were walk-in & they were very accommodating). We chose the table since it's the most comfortable. We didn't plan to linger or have dessert so 1 hr suited us just fine. Our server was excellent, professional, very friendly. Despite how busy she managed to check on us a few times. The host said food during this time comes out fast & he was spot on about that. 3.5 stars I had dinner at 255 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, but there were still several tables available. The restaurant looks small from the front but behind the wall of wines are tons of tables that are unfortunately spaced close together. There was a person pushing a stroller who had to ask a patron to push their seat in to get through. The wait staff seemed quite adept at avoiding bumping into patrons while holding plates of food. Our waiter didn't come by until after appetizers were served. It was another person, Patrick, who served us water, took our orders, and brought us bread. We ordered the fried calamari, the pizza americana, and the truffle rigatoni. The calamari was tasty, soft, light, and freshly battered with a tasty mayo sauce. The pizza was just okay. I enjoyed the crust, which was slightly chewy on the inside but crunchy on the outside. The pasta was okay as well. The rigatoni were not all cooked to the same doneness. The sauce was good, savory with a bit of cheese flavor to it. Overall the food was good, though a little pricey for what you get. Service could be improved. read more

The manager of the restaurant is unprofessional, racist, and impolite. We ordered a medium T-bone steak. We tasted one bite, and it was thoroughly cooked. We wanted to cancel the order, but the waiter said they could not make the decision. The manager showed up an hour later. She was impatient, giving us attitudes and questioning if we had tasted/ or finished the steak. We could tell from her posture and facial expression that she was unwilling to help with the situation. Absolutely by far one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long while!! Reception at the door was friendly and our waitress was amazing!!! The appetizers were presented picture perfect! We ordered grilled and fried calamari and they were perfect! My brother ordered a Caesar Salad and I loved how they toped it off with dried prosciutto in a porcelline bowl. Pizza was crisp, cheesy to perfection. For my main dish, I ordered the Truffle Rigatoni WOW!!! Amazing!! Mom had the pappardelle and my nephew ordered the ravioli in a vodka sauce. I took a group of 4 here for a birthday dinner and was really blown away by the service and the food. From the outside it looks like a giant restaurant but it's actually quite cozy and intimate, very warm and inviting. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, answering several questions about the food and being incredibly attentive without being overbearing. The food was really something special, which is saying something considering the plethora of good Italian options in Vaughan area are. From the appetizers (carpaccio, calamari) to the mains (rabbit Pappardelle, lobster spaghetti, jumbo shrimp, and ESPECIALLY the out-of-this-world Carbonara) to the desserts (gluten free molten lava cake, pecan pie and incredible coconut cream pie), everyone was really happy with the food. Everyone was excited to come back and check out more of the food, the menu is really inviting and it was hard to not want to go back and check out the other inviting items. It was my first time coming to this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation and I was not disappointed. The place was busy on this Saturday night and really has good vibes. The place is a little noisy but you can still have a conversation without raising your voice. The waiter was on point and made sure our water was always topped up and asked if we were satisfied or needed anything else. The bread was fresh and olive oil and hot peppers in oil were already on the table. The food was delicious and I only have good compliments to share. For the appetizer I has pasta and fagiolo, it was very close to Italian authentic and absolutely delicious. The main was amazing, I had pappardelle in pulled rabbit ragu, topped with parmigiana. The rabbit meat was so tender and cooked perfectly. It was stunning and I'd have it again for sure. We did not have dessert because we went for a gelato at a nearby place. I came here for a birthday group dinner on Sept 3rd (a Saturday) and as expected this place became pretty busy after 6pm. Many places in Vaughan are busy after 6pm on a Saturday night so that's no surprise. The parking was pretty simple though. Being near Vaughan Mills there's lots of open space and I ended up getting one of the diagonal spots right in front. While this restaurant is near Vaughan Mills it's not inside the mall itself thankfully. That parking lot is a normally a gong show. Being close to Vaughan Mills has a convenience factor though. It's not hard to find, there's substantial parking and generally it's not very hard to get to being close to highway 400 etc. The place is named 255 I'm guessing because their address is 255 Bass Pro Mills Drive. The restaurant itself has a nice high ceiling and a dark look with soft lighting. The bar is located in a nice visual spot being sort of the front and center of the service area while the seating area is rather tight. Tables are really almost uncomfortably close together. Navigating/negotiating your way around the tables to get up, leave or go to the restroom could be considered hard to do considering the space allowance between tables. I found the service to be rather attentive and friendly. The staff always seemed to be happy to serve or smiling if not making jokes but still remaining professional. The clearing of plates and drinks were well maintained as well. The food I found to be about satisfactory. We had ordered salads, calamari friti, a gnocchi plate, and a couple pizzas. The salads were good and the calamari was very good. Salads were salad but the calamari was nicely done with a bit of a crunch to the batter with nice sized rings and tentacle pieces. I like the tentacle parts more than the rings and there was a nice quantity of each. The gnocchi I seemed to get bored of it pretty fast. It had a gorgonzola sauce which was thick and rich but I had wish it was even stronger with the cheese taste considering gorgonzola is very rich. The server had asked if I had wanted a sprinkle of parm on my gnocchi and I had said yes. I think she was worried that it would probably be too salty or rich for me? Nope, it was just fine even with the added cheese. The pizzas were nice but nowhere near I had wished they'd be. Call me spoiled but I've had my fair share of pizza in my day and perhaps places like Libretto have spoiled me for what Italian pizza should be. Like a few other places I've had pizza in Vaughan, this pizza may use Italian ingredients but the crust while OK just doesn't meet Neapolitan closeness or the expectation of a place that is supposed to be more Italian that say Pizza Nova. Still, my wife enjoyed her white pizza with prosciutto while I had gone with the more spicier 'Nduja which also had arugula as a topping. The crust served here is thicker, harder and crunchier as opposed to a Neapolitan style being thinner, softer and chewier. The verdict is decent, but not superb. While everything else about 255 is good or better than good the food for me is just a pass. While I can say it's not quite a 4 but better than a 3 perhaps a 3.5? I don't round up so it'll have to remain a 3 from me. The service was great and it's a nice place but it feels crowded inside because of their spacing of tables which is what make this place even out. read more

We can here with friends for the first time a few weeks ago. We were able to make a reservation on a Saturday night which scored big bonus points in my books. The place was busy and the atmosphere was chatty and relaxed. Our waiter did take a very long time to serve us which is I'm giving this review 4/5. I ordered a bottle of J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon, the other couple ordered a glass of Pinot Grisio and Gin and Tonic. Bread and pepper spread was brought to the table for us to snack on till our food arrived. For appetizers we ordered the octopus and the ensalata mista. The octopus was really nice, soft an delicate flavour. The salad was fresh and tasty. The other couple ordered a Burrata salad and a 255 bruschetta which was much bigger than expected . For our main I ordered the truffle rigatoni pasta which was absolutely out of this world amazing. I should have stopped eating 1/2 way through but couldn't get myself to stop. My husband main was the veal masala. The meat was tender and the sauce rich and tasty. The other couple ordered the lamb chops with garlic sautéed rapini and cannelloni beans, he said the meat was cooked to perfection and exceptionally tasty and she ordered Atlantic cod fillets with Israeli couscous and seasonal vegetables. The fish was tender and tasty. The other couple ordered desserts, a tiramisu and a pana cotte. We ordered a dessert to share, it was tasty but I don't recall it's name. By far the best part of the experience was that the chef came out of the kitchen at the end of the night and came round to all the tables to see how we enjoyed our meals. Our meal for the two of us came to $180 plus tip. I'm looking forward to going back again soon. read more
