Went the other day for a surprise birthday dinner. We asked for a cozy table but everywhere in the…read morerestaurant was pretty loud we ended up talking loudly to each other to hear above the other noise. The service was pretty good , the drinks were overpriced like Boston prices for a couple old fashions that got watered down quickly. I had the salmon dish with rice. The portion was perfect , but it lacked flavor so it wasn't very satisfying. The best thing I liked was the dessert the chocolate mousse.

Our server was patient as we perused the menu and caught up with friends. I started with the equinox, which is their signature bourbon and cognac cocktail ($18) - it was good! The soft, pillowy rolls with butter was a nice start...who doesn't love delicious bread?! The steak frites ($41) was one of their specials that evening, and frankly, it wasn't too special. While it was a nice sized piece of sirloin that was cooked to my requested medium rare, it was a little tough and desperately needed the herbed butter it was served with. However, the menu offers a good variety of entrees, so there is something for everyone. We shared several desserts ($12 each), and again, all were good versions of familiar fare, such as creme brulee, bread pudding, flourless chocolate cake. The restaurant really seems to fit this affluent Boston suburb...a bit conservative, a bit pricy, nothing offensive or too risky, but everything done pretty well, if not especially memorable.

I had the Beef Shawarma, and mostly liked it - though the Sumac sprinkled on top was not optimal for me. Still enjoyed the dish nonetheless and it made good leftovers the next day. Spouse had mixed grill and the filet and chicken in it were just wonderful. We had started with Fatoush salad which is a favorite of mine, along with hummus. I don't find the hummus particularly interesting, but it still complemented other dishes fine. I had a mocktail to start with passionfruit and mango - it was really great. So many mocktails out there are too sweet and not creative. This was a notable exception. Service was great and they sent us home with lots of bread to go with our leftovers. I am looking forward to our next visit. Maybe I will finally get around to trying the stroganoff!

Every kid from 1-101 has learned the Mary had a Little Lamb nursery rhyme. It goes Mary had a Little Lamb it's Fleece was white as Snow & Everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go. It followed her to school one day etc. Well, this is the School in that famous classic story that Mary attended. This is part of the Secret Hidden Gems of America that most people have never heard of or been to before. The tiny red schoolhouse is called The Redstone School & was built in 1798. Mary Elizabeth Sawyer was the Mary in the story born in 1806. Rebecca Kimball was the School Teacher. John Roulstone wrote the first 12 lines of the Classic. Sarah Josepha Hale completed the work. The building originally stood in Sterling Massachusetts. It was moved by Automobile Kingpin Henry Ford in 1927. When you talk about Old School this is the Original Old School! There are Plaques on the rocks outside that give you more information about the nursery rhyme. The Schoolhouse itself is open weekends only from May- October on Friday Saturday & Sunday from 12- 4:45 PM & is FREE! Unfortunately when we went it was closed but you can still look through the windows & check out the inside. Well I'll have to catch the inside the next time around. Go next door & visit the Martha Mary Chapel an all white picturesque church that appeared in the Matthew McConaughey film with Jennifer Garner & Emma Stone "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". Also visit across the street there's the Grist Mill ( a great place to picnic), The Waterfall, The Pond, The Glacier Rocks from an Ice Cap 18,000 years ago. Also check out The Old Barn Farm Stand where they sell plants, local honey & other products & The Inn itself has lodging, a restaurant & a bar. What a Great Spot! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!
