Went the other day for a surprise birthday dinner. We asked for a cozy table but everywhere in the restaurant was pretty loud we ended up talking loudly to each other to hear above the other noise. The service was pretty good , the drinks were overpriced like Boston prices for a couple old fashions that got watered down quickly. I had the salmon dish with rice. The portion was perfect , but it lacked flavor so it wasn't very satisfying. The best thing I liked was the dessert the chocolate mousse. read more

Our party of 8 enjoyed our experience at Bullfinchs. We were seated in an odd back corner of the restaurant, which lacked a bit of ambiance, but allowed for conversation at a reasonable volume. Our server was patient as we perused the menu and caught up with friends. I started with the equinox, which is their signature bourbon and cognac cocktail ($18) - it was good! The soft, pillowy rolls with butter was a nice start...who doesn't love delicious bread?! The steak frites ($41) was one of their specials that evening, and frankly, it wasn't too special. While it was a nice sized piece of sirloin that was cooked to my requested medium rare, it was a little tough and desperately needed the herbed butter it was served with. However, the menu offers a good variety of entrees, so there is something for everyone. We shared several desserts ($12 each), and again, all were good versions of familiar fare, such as creme brulee, bread pudding, flourless chocolate cake. The restaurant really seems to fit this affluent Boston suburb...a bit conservative, a bit pricy, nothing offensive or too risky, but everything done pretty well, if not especially memorable. read more

Haven't been here for a long time, seems like the inside has been redone. Came for dinner and their menu offered a bit of everything. Ordered an old fashioned was ok. Tried their shrimp appetizer which I expected larger shrimp vs bite size with a side of sauce, just ok. I ordered the filet with a side of mashed potatoes, whipped blue cheese (very strong) could eat it and string beans. Filet and potatoes were tasty portions could be a bit larger for the price. Service was good. But here is the thing it was very LOUD! so loud that it was hard to hear my dinner companion. And I asked for a cozy table for a birthday celebration. So if you don't mind having to shout across the table to talk then this is the place for you. I'd rather have a nice conversation along with a good meal. read more

Did not have a good experience this time out. I had ordered the 8oz sirloin medium and it came to the table looking like shoe leather. Grey throughout its entirety. Tough too. I sent it back and the server was quick to apologize but my date had completely finished her meal by the time my refire came out to the table. Server had take my utensils when she took thr over cooked steak away so now I sat and waited to get their attention to replace my silverware . Refired steak was tasteless. It's been a while, and now that we're moving out of Hudson (I will forever be "Granniehudson", I've been "hitting" our favorite places. How disappointed that this place has changed and not for the better. I won't get into the food because it's not worth writing about, and the service was very spotty. It's taken a while for me to go through my notes because I'm torn with this review. The food used to be SUPERB. Now its "meh" at best, and thank goodness the server took pity on our souls because the first batch of rolls could have been used to fix the "yellow brick road" - so she waited to get a batch of the fresh-out-of-the-oven perfection their house rolls are. I wish them all the best, and hope the kitchen can go back to the food folklores are written about. Missing Miss Peggy every time, but we all get to that road that takes us to retirement, and my journey is pointing me Cape-bound where French bistros are Provencal magic. Always exceptional. We have been dining at Bullfinchs for decades and the food and service are always consistently excellent. It is a family run business and it shows in the care they take with every aspect. The decor is classy and cozy. The serving sizes are perfect to fill you, but no leftovers because they value quality over quantity and so should you. Do not miss the short rib! Drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are creative and delicious. It is a rare night that we can pass on the yummy dessert options. In the summer they have a lovely outdoor dining tent. This is a great place for a special dinner or just an every day delicious meal. read more

Bullfinch's brunch is great time. They have live jazz and their starter of a biscuits and scones is very nice. I love to get the French onion soup when I come for dinner. It's always the most cozy spot for a date night or anytime. I especially love the ambience in the winter. read more

This has been a solid restaurant for so long..... last night was not the case...... we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated after our reservation time....I ordered a gin martini with blue cheese olives. The martini itself was good. The olives had a funny taste to them as if the blue cheese was past its point of no return. The high point was the lamb meatball appetizer as they were very tasty ...... the spicy cauliflower was over the top spicy. No one eat it but me. We ordered a sad Caesar salad and the Maddie's tuna portion was was like two bites and it was accompanied by a very sad piece of bokchoy, and one mushroom cap. The duck plate look good, I tried but it was a little dry and overcooked but it was definitely the best plate out of the bunch. I order a chocolate fudge caramel sundae with nuts ..... There was no chocolate fudge, and the walnuts were rancid...... they could've toasted them and added some sugar, but it was just raw rancid walnuts which ruined the whole Sunday....... We also ordered the flourless chocolate cake, which was super thin and covered with whipped cream and ice cream, you couldn't even recognize that it was a flowerless cake. I've never been in a place at this price range where the bartender yells over to hostess that you can't sit at bar because she saving 2 spaces for someone's boyfriend. If you're spending $150+ for one person for dinner it seems like being stuck at the door table isn't great. read more

We were greeted with a great hostess for a party of 6 which turned into only five for brunch today. Our server was Kevin, it was our first time ever at Bullfinch's. Kevin was so knowledgeable about the menu and suggested his favorites. Everything from cocktails to food was perfect! He suggested the sampler for dessert and it did not disappoint! Random spot in a little plaza off Rt 20 in Sudbury. The outside is always lit nicely and decorated, so we decided to stop by on new years. It is decently sized on the inside but does not appear that way from the outside. Drinks: they have a decent cocktail list, wine list and beers. The waitress knew a fair amount about the cocktails, and I went with her recommendation. 4/5. Apps/dinner: the menu is fairly limited but does have a "couple of each" type of menu, so there is a fish/poultry/beef/pork option. The Caesar salad was mediocre. The lamb meatballs were interesting - feta was extremely salty and the dish could've used less of it. The hot sauce drizzle was a necessary addition and the cucumber / tomatoes were seasoned well. The entree portions were standard; we had the duck and chicken Marsala. The duck is indeed half the bird, but the cranberry orange sauce was way too sweet and overpowering. He thought the duck was also slightly overdone. The Marsala has a good risotto and a strong mushroom flavor, of course. 3/5 because I didn't enjoy the flavors as a whole very much. Dessert: opted for the special, which was a salted caramel brownie sundae. Not terrible, not amazing. I believe they change their bread pudding flavors every so often so that may be worth trying. Service: our waitress was sweet, and attentive. We did have a 7:15 reservation and at 7:50 overheard another waitress tell the table next to us that the kitchen closed at 8. I wish our waitress would have told us that, but we had no issues putting entrees in because she did come check back with us before 8. Ambiance: the bar area looks cozy for a quick drink and an app. The tables along the sides with the bench are very close together, so while the pillows make the bench comfortable, I don't like sitting so close to others. Folks, With St. Patrick's Day upon us, I was so sad that my go-to Irish Dinner place folded over the past couple of years. Out of desperation I simply asked a friend where he and his wife go in the Metrowest area for their corn beef and cabbage Irish Dinner. Without missing a beat he said Bullfinch's in Sudbury on Rt.20. Well I'm writing to tell you, OMG, Bullfinch's makes a delicious classic Irish dinner, served with a very nice side Dijon cream and the best bread rolls ever !!! If you don't already have an over the top place get your Irish dinner this year, run don't walk to Bullfinch's in Sudbury. You won't be disappointed. For appetizers our table had the brie, the spinach salad and the beet salad. All were very good. Entrees were the beef stroganoff special, the salmon and the tuna. Beef and salmon were very good but the tuna was overcooked. The presentations of all three were nice. Desserts were also good My main complaint was that I felt rushed. At a place like that, where three courses and a cocktail run $75 per person, the entree should not come within seconds of finishing the appetizer. Wait at least five minutes. Maybe ten. Same with dessert. Let me digest a bit before asking me about dessert. I do thank you, though, for not putting tip suggestions on the bill, and for processing payment away from the table. read more

We went to Bullfinch's to celebrate our anniversary! We've been dining there since we started dating over 20 years ago. We were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. To start we had Veuve Clicquot and the warm goat cheese appetizer. Oh goodness that was delicious! Balsamic reduction, fig and bacon made for a salty sweet cheesy dip for the grilled baguette. For entrees we ordered the two specials, the seared scallops and Beef Wellington. The scallops were perfectly cooked and served with delicata squash,couscous, and artichoke gremolata. My preference would be to switch out the couscous for a different starch. The Beef Wellington was more of a deconstructed Beef Wellington. It was the beef served with two toast points of pastry dough. I was a bit disappointed with the presentation, but the beef was cooked perfectly. Dessert was Apple crisp with ice cream! It was perfection! The dining room was pretty busy and a little loud, but we could still have a conversation. All in all we had a delicious meal and a lovely evening. read more

Chose this restaurant based on Yelp reviews. Was definitely not a great find. Drinks : We dint order any but they have a fully stocked back with beer and wine options. Appetizers: Crab cakes and calamari were ordered. The calamari was really good but the crab cake was just ok. The bread that was served was really good with the chilli oil. The Portuguese soup was subpar. Entrees: We were a group of 4 and everyone tried a different dish. I tried the lamb rack chops which lacked flavor. The lamb was cooked well but the chef could really work on the taste. I was surprised that a restaurant could botch up mashed potatoes!!, The rest of the folks at our table liked their respective dishes. Dessert: We ordered the sampler and the apple crumble was great. The creme brûlée had an eggy flavor and the chocolate mousse was average. Ambience: A fine looking restaurant that has a classy feel. Parking spots are available right outside. They do take reservations. Service : Our waiter was very professional and efficient. A small thing that waiters need to remember is guests who requested for no ice in their water. He clearly missed it after the first fill. Pricing: Expensive, though not worthy. Will I return : Maybe not! Overall, some good and some bads. Hence the 3 stars. read more

For a treat at pre-Christmas (12/22/19) brunch, I ordered the Belgian waffle with fresh fruit and walnuts, which comes with ice cream - it didn't even need syrup! The music was a little too loud for group conversation, but other than that it was another great visit! Then, on another visit, we dined outside due to COVID concerns and it was a lovely experience. Haven't been in ages and then ended coming two weekends in a row! Forgot how awesome their service is! Great for kids with with a bargain $10 deal (includes drink, entree & dessert) Usually kids meals are kinda crappy, but they do it up right here! The pasta had regular portions and the sauce was good, not just the regular tomato sauce. Highlights: Yummy warm rolls with good olive oil! Love the dessert sampler! read more

I've been here several times: pre-covid: twice for brunch, once for a drink at the bar; covid time: once for takeout when restaurants are closed due to Covid and sit down dinner in their outdoor set-up. Love the weekend brunch, they have live Jazz band playing. Note that as of this review, they are no longer holding brunch service because of covid. But if they do start it back up - I thought the food is delicious and creative for suburbs, and the cocktails are fun. They get really crowded, so definitely need to make reservation in advance. Their dinner menu is decent, something I would go for a nice evening out. They try their best to adhere to covid restrictions and I appreciate their effort. read more

BF's has shown amazing resilience during the COVID situation. They developed a takeout method that is efficient and effective. The renovated patio seats many customers in a safe, socially-distanced fashion. The food is as good as ever, and they continue to experiment with new specials.
