Good sandwich shop in the heart of Curtis Park. We usually stop at Curtis Park market for the excellent selection of IPAs in the back case, but this deli gives us another good reason. Fresh produce, good selection, good service. Decent prices. My only complaint is you can't open a beer and have it with your food like you can at 515. Darn liquor licenses. Aren't I spoiled?

Grabbing a bite for lunch, we decided to get sandwiches from 2nd Avenue Deli. This sandwich spot is located inside the Curtis Park market. Usually, it looks like they have a few tables for guests to eat their sandwiches there; however, with the current social distancing situation, they are encouraging guests to take their sandwiches to-go. You can phone in your order ahead of time and pick it up when it's ready. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, both hot and cold, as well as paninis and melts. You can also build your own sandwich, choosing from a variety of breads, meats, spreads, cheeses, and toppings. I ordered the classic turkey club on a French roll. I ordered the whole size and the sandwich was huge! My fiancé got the Ruben on rye. And my dad also ordered a deconstructed version of the Reuben. They both thoroughly enjoyed their sandwiches. Since this spot is located inside the Curtis Park market, you can pick your chips and beverages from items in the market. You pay for your sandwich at the cash register for the market and pick your sandwich up from the deli when it is ready. It's great to have another local sandwich shop option that offers a nice variety of sandwiches for a reasonable price.

Friendly spot with some good Sandos. Wish it was open Sundays. Unlike most delis, you can pair with something from their excellent craft brew selection.

Just tried this deli since it's close to my office. Ordered the left coast blonde, and swapped out the sliced sourdough for a ciabatta roll, everything else as is. The sandwich was missing the cucumber and avocado as listed on the menu. Pretty disappointed since it was on their list of sandwiches, it's not like I did a build your own. Aside from that the sandwich was very delicious (of course would've been better with avocado). I will go back though since it was yummy!

I chose that i wanted liverwurst bc i assumed most people dont want that, so i got a liverwurst only sandwich. I thought they would do liverwurst and add other meats. Wouldn't be bad if the liverwurst wasnt so bland and had some flavor. My wife ordered the French bistro and circled ham....she got two sandwiches. One French bistro and one ham sandwich so we ended up with three sandwiches. The value is at least there....you can get filled up with half a sandwich. The liverwurst was saved by me mixing it with the ham sandwich. Worker was a little lazy and didn't cut the sandwich all the way through on 2 out of the 3 sandwiches and bc the crust is so thick, we ended up ripping one bread awkwardly. All in all it was worth getting 2 sandwiches. I would suggest the soft sourdough cause the regular and Dutch is a mouth and jaw destroyer.

This is a luxury. $20/large sandwich. Life isn't cheap. Things like this is a treat. So I took my son out to lunch. I asked to change the turkey for ham on a club sandwich, which already has ham, and is the cheaper meat.... and was told I would have to build the sandwich from scratch for $2 more. I wasn't asking for more meat, I wasn't asking to ADD meat, I was asking to simply change the more expensive meat for the cheaper lunch meat. Cashier standoffish, definitely didn't care about customer service, just a flat No build it yourself. Ok. No ty. Again, already a $20 sandwich. No thank you. When the sandwiches were ready, after at least 5 peoplewho came in behind us, another girl called out my name, but incorrect, no big deal. I stated mine in question form and she looked at me, rolled her eyes, and handed it to the cashier who handed it to me. I dont know what it was today, but even my child said it. He said everyone working was just "hella rude" and made him uncomfortable to want to return. Honestly, me too. Sandwiches, amazing. Everytime. Service? I could pass on the attitude. No accommodation or explanation to customers for a request, only an uncharge? Again, I could pass on that. The last two beat out the first everyday. The owner used to be in so often, all the workers were so nice, it was like the Dutch Bros of sandwich shops Not worth it for the price.

They offer a variety of sandwiches with ingredient combinations that will please any sandwich lover. I love their Italian and especially that you can add roasted red peppers, olives, and pepperoncini to them. My husband typically gets the Italian or their Buffalo Chicken sandwich. The large may seem expensive, but it's huge and definitely enough for two meals. They also offer salad options and soups, along with cookies and a great tasting pasta salad. There's plenty of tables to eat inside, but we typically take ours to-go. We always stop at the convenience store that's attached for more drinks and snacks.

My to-go order is the Hornet on a Dutch crunch roll with everything on it except mustard. Make it a combo with chips and a drink, and you'll have an incredible lunch. The ambiance is different from other sandwich spots in midtown. The chairs and tables are older and worn, and it's small inside, but it's also inside an old house that was converted into a restaurant. That alone makes this place unique. People hang out inside or outside with friends and enjoy the vibes. There's a real sense of community that the Sandwich Spot brings along with uniquely crafted sandwiches. All of the sandwiches are named after people or landmarks in Sacramento. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and will help you with recommendations if you're not sure which sandwich to get. It honestly feels like you're in the company of good friends. The staff joke around and seem to enjoy their job and working together. The restaurant is in a really cool old Victorian house, and the staff were super friendly. The interior was clean and looked like a nice place to dine in, but I ended up taking my order to go. I ordered the #19 with turkey, prosciutto, avocado, and swiss on a dutch crunch roll. The bread had just gone into the oven, so we had to wait about 10 minutes, but I can't complain because it was baked fresh to order. Overall, I thought the sandwich was very good, but honestly not quite as amazing as people online had made it out to be. It was definitely good, but I don't know if I'd be dying to go back when I think Ike's, Mr. Pickle's, Corti Bros, and maybe even Nugget or Sprouts make more interesting sandwiches. To me, those places use slightly higher quality ingredients as well, though maybe I just didn't order the best sandwich here. Overall, it was a good sandwich and a good experience. My expectations were probably just a little too high. I wouldn't be dying to come back but also wouldn't say no if someone wanted to go there for lunch.

Were these chips hand-carved by artisans somewhere? Blessed by monks in the moonlight? I'm genuinely curious. The bun, however, was enormous, so the overall experience was like eating a fluffy bread pillow with a whisper of sandwich somewhere in the middle. Honestly, the sandwich felt a bit like a mime, the idea of a sandwich was there, but the substance was invisible. I even wondered if maybe the fillings weren't hungry themselves. Service is as fast as it can be during lunch hour rush, and I haven't been disappointed yet with my orders. The workers have always been helpful and answered any questions about the menu or even helped with recommendations. The ambiance isn't anything special. It's like most sandwich spots with tables, chairs and a restroom for customers. You're probably not pulling out your laptop to do any work or catch a vibe there unless listening to music and sending emails in a sandwich restaurant is your thing. My go-to order is the Amuna's Tuna on Dutch crunch with everything on it except jalapeños. If you're feeling a little lucky, you can get a combo meal with chips and a drink. They also sell big cookies. You also get a nice caramel apple sucker candy with your order. Like most restaurants these days, and especially restaurants in midtown, you're looking at $15-$20 for a sandwich and combo. It's pricey.

I'm likely in the minority in my opinion, but bear with me. I'm torn between a 3 and a 4, and…read moresticking with a 3 because this shop just didn't measure up ... to me. For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll. For more adventurous sandwich people, go for broke! This is your place!
