STAY AWAY FROM DOGTOPIA OF MCKINNEY! MY DOG ENDED UP AT AN EMERGENCY VET!!! Photos show the following: -my dog receiving IV treatment after a visit to Dogtopia -my dog dangerously escaping from a crate at Dogtopia -ANOTHER dog, unsupervised, ingesting unknown materials from a reachable barrel /trashcan in the left corner of the playroom My dog's experience: My dog attended Dogtopia in McKinney on 3/10/23 from 9:30am - 6:15pm. Upon picking him up at the end of his visit, I was notified at the front desk that my dog had a rough day filled with three separate vomiting incidents, as well as diarrhea. I was also told that his vomit "looked and smelled like feces." I was NOT contacted ONCE throughout the day by the staff at Dogtopia, and therefore did not have the opportunity to notify our primary veterinarian during their business hours. I was only told about this incident at 6:15pm after the Dogtopia visit was over. ADDITIONALLY - the front desk attendant as well as Kim, the manager, both separately admitted that they kept my sick dog IN THE PLAY ROOM AFTER VOMITING/DIARRHEA incurred, thus exposing EVERYONE ELSES DOGS TO POTENTIAL ILLNESS! Thankfully my dog wasn't contagious, but beware that this is their protocol! Upon getting my dog home he continued vomiting, whereas we were forced to take him to an after-hours emergency vet clinic (which is astronomically more expensive than a primary vet). After many strenuous hours of examination and several x-rays, it was determined that my dog has a suspected bowel obstruction caused by paper towel-like, possible cleaning materials and foreign dog feces; both of which he ingested at Dogtopia in McKinney. The veterinarian was deeply disappointed at the clear lack of supervision at Dogtopia, as well as the lack of communication. This allowed his bowel obstruction to move deep into his large intestine, where it had been lodged for hours. We are left with a critically ill dog, extreme frustration towards the facility and the apparent negligence in the staff, and a $700 vet bill. Kim (the "manager") called me and admitted that they "sometimes can't catch these dogs before they eat things like feces." To which I asked, are you admitting that my dog wasn't supervised? She also informed me that they had my dog "rest" in a separate room after vomiting various times, and then decided to place him back with the other dogs after vomiting. As I mentioned earlier, their protocol is NOT to call the pet parent - it is to simply keep the dog playing with other dogs and exposing potential illness to other pets. On 3/12/23 I told Kim that I want a refund for the money I've paid to Dogtopia. Kim told me that Jeff, the owner of this franchise, would be giving me a call "tomorrow" on 3/13/23. It is now close to the end of a business day, and I have not received one phone call from Jeff. I texted and emailed Kim to follow up, and have not heard a word back! These people are downright despicable! There have been other concerning incidences while my dog has attended Dogtopia that I never confronted them about. On the Nest camera live feed, I caught my dog DANGEROUSLY, and successfully escaping from a crate. (See photos attached). How was he able to do this? LACK OF SUPERVISION! Not only could he have injured himself, but he could've gotten into another situation where he was ingesting dangerous things while out of the crate. This staff needs to be held accountable for this incident, as the CLEAR lack of supervision/communication is a danger to not only my dog, but the many others who attend the facility as well. They do not have the wellness of these animals as a priority at heart, and I am hopeful to spark an investigation at the McKinney Dogtopia location. read more

I find it unfortunate to write this review as our family has been a loyal customer since 2020 of Dogtopia Mckinney, but the establishment, staff and ownership have changed and not in the most positive manner. First off the rising cost of services has increased nearly 40%. In addition to paying for a two full nights of boarding they now also charge for half day of day care on pickup unless you say something then they usually will remove it. We boarded two of our dogs this weekend and at time of pick up was informed that they do not feel they are a good establishment for our 2 year old bully dog who has been with them since we got her in April of 2023. She was snappy this visit due to what we were later in the conversation informed is that they are just too busy and she was over sensitized. So they put her alone in city and would "visit and play with her" while our Boxer was just fine. At no point were we contacted to inform us of the issue we were just told at pick up not to bring her back they are "too busy" for her. I'm sadden by our experience we have supported this business since nearly the time of their opening. I agree with their assessment, the new management and staff are definitely not a good fit and I do question if the money is more important than the pets now. I would recommend looking for an establishment other than this one as the community and family care environment is no longer here. I hope they can turn it around. read more

Honestly this place deserves 0 stars and no clue how they're still open! The will treat your animal like crap (witnessed it on camera) if another dog is attacking your dog. But if your dog acts up he gets kicked out?! The manager Brittany needs a new job. The owner and the operational manager refunded me my stay but the fact they didn't do anything to the employee who grabbed by dog by the back of his neck and drug him and threw him in a cage is mind boggling. It's close to the holiday season & I really hope people will read the reviews before taking their animal here. My dog wouldn't eat, was severely depressed after leaving this place!!! Disappointed. This facility is a mess and the groomer is terrible--we asked for our dog to be cut as short as possible. He looks like he barely was cut! They refused to work on his nails for fear of being bit. Our dog is afraid of strangers but any other groomer we have gone to has never had a problem! They wanted to charge us $70 for a cut and nail trim. He didn't get his nails trimmed and wanted to still charge us $65 even tho the sign says $15 for a nail trim inside. I typically am not one to post reviews but I feel after picking our pups up this weekend it was necessary. We dropped our dogs off on Friday and picked them up Monday afternoon. We have been taking our dogs to Dogtopia for around 2 years and typically feel safe when we board them while out of town. This time, we received a call Monday to say our dog was hurt but they didn't know how it happened. They said they called on Sunday but we received no other calls or voicemails. I even reached out via Instagram on Sunday due to not seeing our dog on the live camera & they reached back stating that she was probably in the area the camera did not catch - never once telling us about the incident that happened sometime Saturday. They had no recollection of the incident on cameras or from weekend staff. When I picked our pup up, she had a half dollar sized gash on her side (pictures attached). We immediately took her to the vet and she had to get stitches. Our other pup also had a wound near his nose - and again, no explanation of when or how it happened (pictures below). After this incident and the vet, Dogtopia was contacted and they felt that 1 attempt to contact and no medical reimbursement fell in line with policy. Dogtopia has been a staple in our boarding and daycare needs but after these incidents, no explanations of what happened, and no reimbursement of the pay or vet bills - we will not be bringing our dogs back. Our vet mentioned these incidents being to negligence and not watching the dogs properly at the facility. They also advised us to not bring them back to Dogtopia again. I wouldn't feel right not posting and warning other dog owners about this. When you board your dogs somewhere, you trust people to care for them. Technically, my pups were housed and fed but I canceled my future boarding reservations and will not be returning. 1) my pups are a bonded pair and were reserved to crate together during rest time but did not see each other once during their stay 2) I was told not to bring blankets or toys from home so requested my smaller pup, who is a burrower, be given a blanket for his crate, was told he would be, and have since found out this is not something they do 3) I have learned the facility does not have enough trays for the crates so some pups are crated with only the metal to stand or lay on or are crated with broken trays 4) they do not have enough "coaches" scheduled for the number of pups in day care or boarding 5) the "coaches" in the room, to ensure safety and provide attention, are on their phones and do not interact with the pups 6) when my larger pup was injured in a preventable scuffle, the owner, Jeff, was dismissive of my concerns, never once apologized and hasn't contacted me to see if he's ok 7) no one is there overnight to ensure the safety of the boarded pups Bottom line: Our pups are family. I boarded my pups expecting them to be cared for and loved and paid almost $100/day to ensure this. When I dropped them off, they were excited. During intake, I communicated that they are bonded (the smaller one is the bigger one's "emotional support pet") and made it clear they had to be crated together or, minimally, side by side. When I picked them up, our bigger pup was injured and traumatized to the point he was whimpering to leave, flinched from pets and did not bark at all for more than 24 hours. This owner does not care about your pups and the people who did work there and did care have quit because of what goes on. We really tried to use this place. It is near our home and we loved the facility and the care that our girls go there (other than the fact that one of them did contact Giardia while in their care early this year). The general manager Brittany was the deal breaker for us. The first time we tried to use them, we were plagued with constant billing issues. They NEVER bill the same way twice and are completely incapable of managing a multiple dog situation. After struggling for a month with Brittany, I finally gave up, demanded a refund (which I had to threaten her with contacting the owner of the facility to get processed) and took our girls somewhere else. The thing is, we really loved the care that they got there and the service we had when we worked with Holly, the assistant manager. So, I went in and spoke with Holly and decided to give them another go. Holly and I worked out a plan for our girls that was economically feasible and we were thrilled to have our girls back in Holly and her team's care. Last night, when my daughter went to pick up our girls, she was verbally attacked by Brittany. Brittany told her that she would NOT be honoring the plan that Holly had worked out with us, and that moving forward we would be following HER RULES. When my daughter asked her if she was telling us to find another daycare, she continued to verbally attack her and basically said she didn't want our business. We are GOOD customers. Our girls are well behaved and we used a LOT of their services. So this is definitely their loss. I would strongly recommend that you take your dogs to ANY other daycare in the area. They are ALL excellent and none of them have a toxic, hateful manager. Holly represents everything GOOD about Dogtopia and if it were only her it would be a top notch facility. Unfortunately, Brittany is the polar opposite and has ZERO customer service skills and is not interested in winning or keeping your business. read more

Deserves ZERO stars!!!!! This place is a disaster and Brittany Huxen does NOT care about your dog! I made an appointment for my dog at 12PM on a sunday amd arrived 30 minutes early. I called and asked if they were ready to take my dog inside or I could wait. They said to bring him inside. Two hours later after calling two separate times while I waited in the parking lot they told me he was still being groomed but that was not true at all! IN FACT, the groomer while my dog anxiously waiting in a cage to be groomed the groomer walked out to her car and sat inside for 15 minutes smoking who knows what?!! To learn my dog's grooming had not even been started was beyond mind blowing! I told them to bring him up to front and when they brought him to me he was wet from anxious slobbering. They groomer said she was backed up was her excuse but looks to me after having run in with her before this a pattern. I would never entrust care of my furry family member to Dogtopia of Mckinney. Signing up my Cav in their puppy preschool has been one of the best decisions I've made with my puppy. He's only been going for a few weeks, but the entire staff treats him like he's their puppy & he LOVES everyone there. I trust 100% that he's being well taken care of & being watched every day he's there. He doesn't even look back at me when I drop him off because he's so excited & happy to be at "school." I had a medical emergency & hospitalized for a week & I was truly surprised that they were asking my mom about me that whole week & even more so surprised when they gave me a get well card that all of the staff signed. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! Ownership and management of this location are horribly inept; and only care about their bottom dollar and share no vested interest in the wellness of the animals. They leave dogs unsupervised and allow them to get into things they are not supposed to. If you leave a dog in the care of a business, you expect that business to at least do the bare minimum in terms of keeping your dog happy and healthy; but not Dogtopia of McKinney, they have you sign a form which absolves them from any blame should anything bad potentially happen to your dog while they are there under their "supervision", if you can even call it that. Our dog ate a brown paper towel which had several other dogs feces wrapped inside; and this leads to him vomiting several times and having diarrhea throughout the day while at Dogtopia. To make matters worse, our dog was there for 8 hours and they did not call us a single time while all of this was going on, and we did not find out about any of this until we picked him at 6:30 PM. At that point all regular veterinary offices are closed and this then leads to us having to take him to an after hours emergency vet which cost nearly $700.00 (which of course Dogtopia and the franchise owner were unwilling to help pay for, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR FAULT). They also really love shoving in your face that you signed a release form when you start bringing your dog for day care, and as such, they are not financially responsible whatsoever for things like this. Yeah that's real nice. I can really tell that this organization cares about the animals it's business model is centered around. So the moral of the story is, if you love bringing your dog to a day care where they can be left in crates for several hours at a time, the staff don't properly watch them, and you have the potential for your beloved pet to nearly die from a serious bowel obstruction amongst other life threatening health conditions; then Dogtopia is the place for you I suppose. Otherwise, I will be telling anyone who will listen to not bring their pets here. I would have happily continued sending my dog(s) here for years to come, because he loved it so much; which ultimately would have been exponentially more money in your pocket, but that obviously won't be happening now. To think this all could have been avoided if they did their jobs, or offered to help with the financial costs of the emergency vet, OR EVEN CALLED US A SINGLE TIME DURING THE DAY WHEN IT WAS HAPPENING. From what I can see online, there are a lot of other people not happy with how this place is run, so it looks like I am not alone. The staff at Dogtopia are amazing, they truly care about your dog's well being. I'm impressed at how thorough they are at the meet and greets. I enjoy being able to watch my dogs on camera, my only complaint is that there are some spots in the playrooms where the camera can't see. I really like that they have a nap time to give the dogs a break from all the excitement. My mind is always at ease when my pups are at Dogtopia because I know the are having fun and getting lots of attention from the coaches! read more

Dogtopia has been such a good for my 2 yr old English springer spaniel, Bruno. Bruno is so high energy that even after two walks (or in his case, running) a day - he needed MORE. More play, more dog interaction, more active engagement. I've become friends with the front desk staff of Morgan, Katherine. Kind, thoughtful ladies who display genuine interest in you and your pet. The manager, Brittany, helped advise me when faced with a complicated dog health issue and I'm grateful. They are the kind of people you can trust to take care of your fur baby. We met the owners and staff before they opened at the Craig Ranch dog park and bought a two-week pass. The facility is so lovely and I like the padded floors so that Bruno's paw pads don't get torn up. I was also impressed by the extensive training in canine behavior management that each employee receives. Bruno has now been 'going to play' for six weeks. His socialization with other dogs is 100% improved, he comes home deplete of mischief and ready to snuggle on the coach. I like that they give the dogs 'nap time' from 12-2 pm so that he can mentally recoup. I've enjoyed peeking in on Bruno via the Nest camera system on Dogtopia's app. Hubbie tells me stories about Bruno's friends and their antics while playing. read more

There were great until this last boarding. Somehow they ran out of food that I counted and came in individual containers and I was called half-way on my road trip home to inform me that my dogs would not have enough food. I counted enough for the duration of our trip but they implied that I did not leave enough. Up until this point, they had been the best that we could have hoped for and that gave us a peace of mind that made our time away more enjoyable. I was forced to call the owner/supervisor to get this matter resolved while in the middle of a 13 hour road-trip. we have used Dogtopia in multiple locations but I would think twice about using the location in Mckinney again. read more

I have now officially been bringing my 4 yr old English Bulldog to this location for a month now for daycare and have boarded here as well. I cannot speak highly enough about this location and the staff. My bullie is a unique breed that requires monitoring and special treatment and the staff at Dogtopia provide her with that and more. When I went out of town, I forgot to drop her bananas to them (part of her daily diet) and they were so amazing they went to the store and got them for her!! I feel so safe leaving her here, whether it is for an extended amount of time or just a day of daycare! Unfortunately I've had several instances of poor customer service. My dogs were scheduled for grooming today and I dropped off on time for their 8:30am appointment, only to find out 3 hours later that the groomer didn't show and my dogs had not been accommodated with even a simple bath. This appointment was made against my better judgement as last time my dogs were groomed, they butchered my cavaliers face by shaving off her eyebrows and whiskers. She looked terrible. I had high hopes for this business as they are close to my home and affordable, but unfortunately it's a no-go for grooming. Very disappointed. read more
