Women have been touching up their hair dye and leaving stained toothbrushes in the shower area. I never see LA Fitness employees leave the office area to walk around the gym to ensure members or visitors are using equipment properly, getting to know their members, and making sure members keep moving on equipment. Tonight was the last straw. 1. On the way in, a young woman walking very fast while staring at her cellphone nearly collided with me. She was on her way to Zumba which had not yet started. I said we usually say, "Excuse me." She just stared. 2. I did a partial workout because the equipment was too busy, then left by way of the main walkway, again. This time, a weight machine in use clipped my elbow as I walked. I should have watched where I was going, but it stuck out into the aisle. At least that man and I apologized to each other. By then, I had had it. 3. I am paying to be treated poorly by other gym users and the employees, and this is not right. I went to the front desk to tell them this is enough. I asked about stopping my membership. It will be in 2 months. I told the 3 people behind the desk what had happened and why I was quitting. They said it was a busy time. I said it is always like that now. I said LAF buys out other gyms, closes them, then overcrowds the remaining gyms. The young woman at the computer was very anxious to remove me from the roles. None of the 3--two men and the woman had anything to recommend, try to make it better, etc. I joined the Y. Much friendlier, family oriented.

It is like personal training, at least I have never seen anyone there, and the owner Mark is ALWAYS there to say hello to. Everyone is so nice there, and they always say "Good Morning Shelby" and I scream it with them once a while and then we all laugh and then it is time to really WORK. They push you to more than you think you can do. You just trust them and go with the flow. They are trying to make you the best you can be. I have timed it so that when I run there I am out front waiting for them. They a maybe a mile away so I run there in maybe idk 5-7 minutes. Combined with yoga (weight of my body work when on the floor), running there and back ane muscular and weight work here, and my running, I am 54 and the best shape of my life (I was in the best shape for many seafront when I was 6 up until I went to college, but that is a whole other story).

The equipment (weights and cardio) is very nice, clean and in good condition. They also have a separate room with balance balls and kettle balls. The rates are very affordable too. You don't have to work at the Corporate buildings nearby you can be anyone it's near REI (has underground parking near corporate buildings). One of the main assets of the place is the personal trainer named "Loren Thomas". He is a reason to stay a member. He is credentialed with many fitness designations as well as a passion for helping. I train with him 1 on 1 and he always challenged me and mixes up my workout. He is making a dramatic difference in my fitness! If you are a busy working professional in the Oakbrook Terrace area (and need a quiet but effective gym) and an amazing trainer at phenomenal rates - check it out! I quit Lifetime as it was soooooo busy and crazy. The locker rooms are a little dated and simple... but I don't care.
