Some places don't need to reinvent themselves. They just need to keep dishing up really, really good ice cream year after year. That's exactly how I feel about 3B Ice Cream. I pulled into the parking lot around 5:38 p.m. on a Friday in July and immediately looked around in disbelief. I was...the only car there. What the heck?! You mean I don't have to stand in line for ice cream? BEST. DAY. EVER! Since there was absolutely no pressure from a line of hungry people behind me, I happily took my time studying the menu before settling on what was clearly the correct life choice. A Kids' Sundae for $5.50. Here's where it got AMAZING. I picked their Peanut Butter Overload ice cream - peanut butter ice cream swirled with even more peanut butter and peanut butter cups. And then topped it with crushed peanuts, peanut butter syrup, whipped cream and a cherry. And all of my peanut butter dreams came true in the 3B parking lot that evening! As someone who's made of approximately 63.8% peanut butter, this felt less like ordering dessert and more like fulfilling my destiny. It was...glorious! Every bite somehow managed to deliver even more peanut butter than the one before it. The crushed peanuts added just enough crunch, the peanut butter cups kept things interesting and the peanut butter syrup tied everything together into one ridiculously delicious sundae. If you're sensing a theme here, it's because there was A LOT of peanut butter. Exactly as advertised. Exactly as it should be. One thing I really appreciate about 3B is that they don't overcomplicate things. They simply make excellent ice cream, serve generous portions and keep their prices incredibly reasonable. Will I be back? Absolutely! I've been enjoying 3B Ice Cream for years, and this visit reminded me exactly why I keep coming back. Sometimes you don't need the newest trendy dessert shop. I cannot say enough good things about 3B. The ice cream is fantastic. I love the huge selection they have of flavors, and toppings. The staff is always friendly, and gets orders completed quickly. Now onto what I have in my photo (an Italian hoagie with everything)....the subs are to die for. Hands down one of the best Italian subs I've ever had. Everything is fresh, and it hits the spot everytime. Also, this monster was only $11.32! I believe the price went up 50 cents or so from last year, but this is still the steal of the century. I've been coming to this location since I was a kid. I used to ride my bike here and reward myself with a dish of soft serve. Nowadays, I prefer the hand dipped ice cream. 3Bs offered a very large selection of flavors and toppings. I love the PB sundae and the almond joy ice cream. They have seasonal flavors and limited-run sundaes, too. Mm! I sometimes get a slushee bc they have the slush puppy kind, for which I have a weakness. They also have pretty good subs, sandwiches and soup. In the fall, we usually get a pork bbq sandwich and split a 2-scoop dish of hand dipped. The prices are reasonable and service is fast. The ice cream here is really good. I got a peanut butter sundae and they didn't skimp on the PB sauce!! Yum! They serve ice cream along with hot food here as well. I haven't tried their hot food, so I can't comment. My only complaint is the prices. Maybe people in the area are used to high ice cream prices, but coming from the northeast, we had a bunch of ice cream stands (good ones) that were very reasonably priced for what you got. I paid almost $10 for a large plain ice cream in a cup and a small peanut butter sundae. I wasn't impressed with portion sizes. And that didn't count the tip. read more

Flavor selection is good, though both B and I have seen our favorites disappear from the menu over the years (Nutty Rainforest and Muddy Sneakers). 3B doesn't make its own ice cream, so menu is dependent on a good commercial brand, Turkey Hill or Gallagher's. Plenty of IC flavors to choose from, hard and soft serve, flavored cones and dishes. Banana split is a meal on its own. Highlights of their year IMO are seasonal sundaes, Warm Apple in Fall, Blueberry in Spring. I've heard their food other than ice cream - barbecue, sandwiches, etc - is good, but I've never had anything but IC. Service is excellent, usually crowded but lines go quickly. Portions are ample, kids size usually more than sufficient. Prices are competitive. Plenty of parking. No indoors, but picnic tables and grassy bank available for seating. read more

Next tro Kokomos and Sheetz on Linglestown and Colonial road. It's pretty hard to pull into and there have always been traffic accidents from people trying to leave by turning left onto colonial. They have some of the best ice cream in the area. When I grew up I always enjoyed this one of the Peppermint Patty's that was out in west hanover. You just walk up and the waitress opens the little screen window and asks what you want. you forgot to look and youre thinking of how delicious all the different flavors are. but then as the line starts to form behind you you just randomly pick something. all the standard large and small Cones, dishes, cakes, waffles, and they only use TURKEY HILL brand ice cream and iced tea. They usually give you a big serving, and it is so enjoyable. Recently they started serving small sandwiches and pretzels and things like that. They have picknick tables which usually fill up fast, and a little trail behind there where you can go out and walk. People always park there and walk to Kokomo's though, so it's often very crowded. Moosetracks and Chocolate Mint Chip are my favorite flavors. Usually open late night in the spring through fall. They dont accpet credit cards. read more
