Love the VFW in mchenry. Great place for veterans.. used to order chicken tenders, they were awesome breaded tenders. Had them today, but had tempura breading. They were so greasy, only ate one of four..so disappointing!! Never have that again.. breading fell off when cutting into chicken, was not enjoyable at all. Hate to complain, because I love the McHenry VFW!! I'll try something else on the menu.. Just had to let you know, maybe other people have complained about tenders too. Can't imagine everyone likes the change in breading.. read more

I really like the work this VFW does for the local community. Everything from supporting Honor Flights to the monthly Food pantry visits for local vets in need to supporting the local schools. The food is pretty average. But I like their pizza and some of the soups. Plus their pork bbq is really good. Bingo, Queen of Hearts raffles, live music and special events like craft fairs and paint and sips. You do not have to be a vet to be there. And it is nice to know my money is being used for good causes. read more

The food is delicious! We come every week and are never disappointed. The burgers are always great! Fish fry is also fantastic! The only thing missing is a creamy garlic salad dressing. We ask every week hoping that they'll add it. Not sure why it's a problem to add it, many people ask for it. The bartenders are awesome. Very friendly and attentive. read more

I thought I reviewed them before but I must have posted it somewhere else. Have been here several times for the fish fry and it is the best I have tried! I always get the AYCE and get the mix of baked and fried. Do yourself a favor and order some melted butter for the baked. Put some lemon on it dunk it in butter and you got poor mans lobster! So good! Tonight we got there early so there was no wait. The staff was super friendly and the food came out really fast. My boyfriend had a burger and he loved it. Oh and the clam chowder is outstanding!!! Our waiter kept checking in on us and the hostess even came by a few times. She was really sweet too! My mother held my daughter's baby shower at McHenry VFW and it was absolutely perfect! The ambiance was beautiful! Several people were shocked at how nice this VFW. The service was top notch with Jada and Anika as servers, both bar and food. The food was delicious and plentiful. By far the best VFW out there! While the queen of hearts creates hype, the food and exceptional service is what keeps us coming back.. (I highly recommend the pulled pork... better than homemade.) I'd like to give a shout out to Jade. No matter how busy it is her service remains incredible! Fun fact, the McHenry VFW is about more than raffles, bingo, sip and paint, food and drinks, it is about supporting our amazing veterans. They collect supplies, donations etc to send to our vets who are currently serving overseas. Today is July 27, 2021. Me and wife in there at 2pm. Horrible bartender, rude and unfriendly, unhappily served us both flat draft beers and menus which we asked for, and 5 and ten and then 15 minutes later as we tirelessly motioned to her we were ready to order just glared at us through her mask and walked past, choosing to empty trash and fold napkins instead of waiting on us. Other times in there, kind bartenders, but wherever this one came from, it wasn't a kind place. The best VFW I've ever been to. A great post for any veterans. They have also an incredible bar and outstanding food. They have a full menu, not just bar food. They have a chef on staff and specials for each day of week. At least a dozen beers on draft. read more

I went for their 1/2 price burger special on Thursday. I tried their Bacon Cheddar burger. It was one of the best burgers I've tasted in a long time! The burgers are HUGE and comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, & a pickle. Better than Culver's. I also got a coke which comes with a free refill. Definitely worth the money. We had a surprise 50th birthday party at the VFW in McHenry. I ranged everything with Christine the GM and she is fantastic Very thorough patient and even cheerful She was there the entire time making sure everything went smoothly and asking us what we needed the bartender Heather was absolutely fantastic and the food was wonderful. Everything went exactly as planned better than I had hoped for. Horrible management, be very cautious when booking an important event with these people, they can bump you with a week's notice and do nothing to correct the situation! They broke our contract (which was in place 2 months prior to the event) a week before my father's (a veteran and former government employee) celebration of life and just said it was due to a scheduling conflict. Admitted that this has happened 3 other times as well. None of the information was in the contract Or mentioned during the several conversations that took place. Complete disregard and disrespect for one of their own. They definitely don't live up to their motto! and did nothing to apologize! read more

We think the fish fry is the best and we have always have had good service. But tonight we ended up walking out. We ordered drinks, and the bartender told us they did not carry that beer. It is on the menu. She told my husband he needed to order something else because there were people waiting. She walked away and never came back. I never thought I would post a review about a VFW but I must give a compliment when one is due. We moved to Wisconsin 6 years ago and we're right on the boarder, we would've thought Wisconsin would know a proper pizza given it's ability to produce cheese. Sadly place after place seemed to be lacking, of all the places The VFW! They have great pizza, obviously no frills and plastic utensils but if you ever find yourself there for a cheap drink order the pizza! read more

My date said the cod was good. I ordered the Walleye. It was so bad that I couldn't finish it. Very thin, skin on the bottom, a small portion and very soggy. I had to try and scrape the fish off the skin. Walleye should be flaking off. At $21.00, I should have sent it back. It wasn't worth $5.00. read more

First time here for the Friday night fish fry and boy am I a very happy camper! The breading on the fish was light and flavorful. The tartar was smooth and just the right tartness. Choice of potato gave us the potato pancake that I swear I would come back just for them. The staff is fun and friendly. It's busy but in a this is a great place to be kind of way. We have gone there for their Fish Fry and it was very good. Large pieces and not overly greasy. They also offer baked, which is good also. They have the best onion rings around, but are not available on Fridays. Service has been a bit behind lately, but that is due to the Q of hearts raffle. Is worth the wait though. I'm regular to the V, my wife and I with some friends went for some drinks and fish fry. We waited hour and a half, staff was over Worked no manager on duty!! This is sad all the money that they made from queen of Hearts and no staff and 2 hr wait. I'm disappointed with the V and I'm sure to tell everyone I know. Went to another restaurant and enjoyed a nice dinner sharing my not enjoyable experience at the V!!! Everyone seems to feel the same way!! The VFW mchenry seems to like the 4 million in there bank account and don't really care about the vets and customers. Sad sad day!! read more

Food is good especially the pizza but the they seem to be changing the rules on the drawing, first you had to have you tickets filled out before 8PM and the drawing is suppose to take place at 8PM but people are still filling out tickets after 8. Last weeks drawing started at 8:15, I think they need to stick to there original plan and be fair to the locals and loyal's who have kept this establishment on there feet in the past! read more
