Stop what you're doing and buy tickets to the current show! Stumbled on 34 West out of the blue and we haven't missed a show since. Great selection of local snacks, drinks and treats. Perfect for ANY night out - date, friends, work group!

    Ready for the show!

A colleague recommended I check this place out- and I am so glad I did! I had a wonderful date night recently at 34 West Theatre. We enjoyed an early dinner before the 7PM show- Uptown Girl- but we left room in our bellies for a bottle of champagne and some theatre snacks! I loved the snack bar- such a great touch, and I loved being able to have a snack + beverage during the show. Due to Covid, they were only filling half of the theatre. We enjoyed our personal two-top table right in front of the stage- it was perfect. Now, about the actual show itself-- it was AMAZING. The actors were so talented, and I couldn't believe I had been missing out on this place for so long! The show was about an hour long. I cannot wait to see more of their productions! The owners are so creative and talented, I highly recommend checking out one of their shows.

The show was absolutely wonderful. The three actors were unmatched in their comedic delivery and timing. It was wonderful. Would have loved someone to throw the people out next to us because they were so drunk it detracted from our experience. Prior to the show one woman took some c*ke from a baggie and licked it w that didn't help one bit. Then the couple who was in theirs 60s were making out and his hand was up her dress. I wish they could have been removed. We couldn't move seats sadly.

Ooh, this is a hard one to write. The four stars are unfortunately not for the performance, but just for the venue and the hospitality. The show on 6/1 was ridiculous, which based on the previous reviews was a complete surprise to us. It was silly and made little sense, and I don't think we were the only ones in the room who felt this way. We were happy it was only an hour or so long. We loved the intimacy of the theatre, the kitschy refreshments, and the fact that the actors/singers were the very friendly hosts and servers. I hope if we have the opportunity to return that the quality of the show itself will improve and be worth the ticket price.

34 West Theater Company on Meeting Street in Charleston is a great venue for entertainment and an enjoyable theater experience. The theater is just the right size that it feels up close and personal and like you are part of everything without being too close. I like all of the drink and snack options that they have available as well as it adds to everything. I have enjoyed just about every show that I have been to here.

This is an absolute MUST share!! We were looking for an evening event for my team to enjoy and this was a perfect choice The venue offers a cozy collection of tables, booths and sofa to sit back enjoy an adult beverage and snack. This was a private event and We opted to have a catered tapas table set up. It worked out great The evening was perfect. The show featured a 60's love story in "A Groovy Kinda Love" that will get you humming or swaying to those old 60/70 songs. Stephen Wayne and Jeffrey Querin have produced and directed a charmer and a must see if you are in town. My team throughly enjoyed the entire experience!

    Any seat is great!

OMG! My hubby and I were so tired from walking all day that we almost didn't go. My husband, who would have preferred to stay in, was more than willing to stay at the hotel. WE are so glad that we went. The actors are extremely talented and hilarious. I loved how intimate it was, the neat wine/snack bar and the fact that my husband lit up and was singing to every song(he's an introvert so this in itself was hilarious...no drinking either lol). I would fly back and forth from Michigan, just to visit, if I could. What a gemstone!!!! Book now or you lose, as they sell out every night You'll thank me later!!!

The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price.

Queen Street Playhouse's unique architecture and building transformation is straight out of the history books. The building was originally constructed in the 1840s as a cotton warehouse. A notable example of vernacular warehouse architecture in Charleston, its style was influenced by Roman Revival and West Indian architecture. Abandoned around the turn of the century, the space was purchased and renovated in the late-1930s by its current theater company, the Footlight Players. The picturesque Philadelphia Alley in historic Charleston, SC abuts Queen Street Playhouse, the newest venue for Spoleto Festival USA. Spoleto is worth a visit. Listen closely and hear the sounds of two dueling spirits. Running alongside the Playhouse is one of Charleston's most iconic and photographed downtown scenes: Philadelphia Alley. Yet this narrow pathway is known to have a darker past as a historic dueling site. One of the most infamous duels occurred in October 1786, between Joseph Ladd, a doctor, and his foe Ralph Isaacs. To this day, many actors at Queen Street Playhouse report hearing distant sounds of dueling, accompanied by a faint and spectral whistling. Its major theatrical moment is documented on Queen Street Playhouse's walls. Visitors will note the large, sweeping mural painted by Alfred Hutty and Emmett Robinson, depicting significant personalities in Charleston's 200-year theatrical history--including 12 actors, eight playwrights, two managers, and two critics. Of the most recognizable is American author DuBose Heyward, who wrote the 1925 novel, Porgy, and served on the Footlight Players' board of directors. Queen Street Playhouse was the site of workshops (preparatory rehearsals and previews) of one of America's greatest staged musical works: George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, for which Heyward served as librettist/lyricist." - SpoletoUSA.org
